Going Back to a More Randomized Selection

gotta love the 5-Man Floyd
Floyd5-2

Hi Friends,
I just thought that you should know that in order to avoid falling into a rut I have decided to mix things up a bit again.
What this means is that after today there will be no "Floyd Fridays" or "Zep Saturdays" or "God Rock Sundays".

Rest assured that I will continue to post plenty of The Floyd, plenty of Led Zeppelin, plenty of everything else for that matter. The only thing is that it won't be on fixed days.

The second reason for my decision is that I have ocassionally felt "under the gun" to get "x" amounts of posts up by a specific day and sometimes the uploads just do not cooperate. When that happens I get more stress out of the blog than enjoyment.

Again, nothing is really changing except that you can expect to be a little more surprised each day.

Dave

PS Rapidshare wrote me an email and said if I really want to improve my good customer service I should begin to post only 1/3 as many files and charge you 199 Euros to enter the site ;)

LOL

Presumably that e-mail came from an alternative reality where the RS business model makes perfect sense!

In fact now time has been converted to GBs (1 day = 4GB) It's just a case of get your value and leave 'em to rot. It's kinda ironic that they introduce the 'preserved' accounts which don't expire, just as the bulk of their customers will be saying bye for good!!

Stay strong

Hi Dave

The only thing I can say: Thanks a million times for all your hard work and especially for all the Floyd. Keep 'em coming, no matter what day. Have a good wee-end.

Regards
Thomas

Thanks Dave. Your enjoyment level is important to me. You have provided so many others with so many wonderful musical performances to listen to. You absolutely need to do whatever it takes to enjoy doing this. I prefer being surprised when I make my daily visit to your blog. Especially if it's something that I consider to be really special. All your efforts are much appreciated by the vast majority of people who enjoy this site. Keep up the great work. It's impossible to please everyone, so don't get discouraged by the vast minority who may not be satisfied. The bottom line is you make a lot of people very happy on a daily basis. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO!!!! Have a great weekend. Matt from PA.

To lighten the mood a bit, a genuine (but slightly frivolous) Floyd & Zeppelin question: why is it that Zeppelin always played the Forum when in LA, while Floyd played the Sports Arena? As far as I know, both are barns with marginal sound. So, was it just timing or was it a choice by the bands?

Is rapid share owned by Chase?

Hi Dave,

I don't care on what day all these fine downloads come.. I download them anyway..

Thanks!

Sorry i've managed to stop laughing now, just like to add that the history (and future) of the web dictates that with minimal 'barriers to entry' the day after you stop providing the service end-users actually want, someone else just comes along and takes that market share from you.

Having gained the majority market share RS now seem intent on turning their back on the very model that got them there in favour of a revenue maximisation strategy. This is a normal corporate busines strategy. Only thing is you are supposed to make some friends along the way so people don't notice!

Dave I'm gonna give FileServe a test and report back in a few days - any more volunteers?

ps Matt's got it right(above), keep going we need you more than ever, post anything you like, anytime you like, anywhere you like
I'd really miss my daily coffee break surprises too!

Sorry to get off the Crapidshare policy head-scratching session ;), but that other anon raises a good point about the Forum vs. the Sports Arena! Maybe that was by design? Floyd vs. Zep when it comes to promotion/venue/union stuff? Interesting question indeed! (since obviously the Floyd could have played/sold out the Forum, i would think?). I know other "big" bands like Tull used to play the Forum in the mid-70s; you don't hear about shows from the Sports Arena as much--i think--maybe the Floyd had a special arrangement with the Sport Arena? I really don't know the answer to this one!

(Anyway, i can't think of any other music blog that has so many anonymous posts! Makes me consider signing up for a google account to separate myself from this horde, but since Dave is such cool, forgiving man--as well as generous of course--he 'allows' all us anonymous posters, where many bloggers do not! Peace! :)

Dave,

Please post what you like, when ever you want to. You need to enjoy this as much as we (those of us downloading your files) do.

Thank you for all your hard work, it is deeply appreciated.

Yeah

Positive or informative input does not need a 'tag' whereas anonymous moaning and abuse should be banned (or shouted down) here and eveywhere else too.

Dave,

Thanks so much for all you do.
Amazing music... your efforts are truly appreciated!

(p.s. Did you get the second box of discs I sent along about a month ago?)

Zeppelin always played at the Forum because it was the scene of some of their early triumphs (e.g 'Live on Blueberry Hill') and therefore became the bands personal favourite venue to play. No idea why Floyd preferred the Sports Arena, but maybe it was logistically easier for them to set up their lights and props there?
Good idea to end 'Floyd Friday' Dave, I mean why restrict yourself regarding what you can post on any given day?
Request time; any chance of some more Marc Bolan stuff?

Dave: I have several shows that I digitized from master tapes, and if you're interested, I'll send you Rapidshare links. I've got a Los Lobos/The Plant 1994, Mark Eitzel/The Plant 1997, The Churck/The Plant 1994...all from master copies that I taped from broadcast. Are you interested?

Dave, thank you for discontinuing the themed days. I prefer the randomness, and I know that takes so much stress off of you.

Also, thanks for no longer using FileServe. As a blind screenreader user, it was impossible for me to find the download link there. No matter where I went on the page, my screenreader couldn't find any place to actually download the file.

As far as RapidShare's email to you, all I can say is  Are we supposed to even take that seriously? Just, wow!

I hope yoou told CRAPIDSHARE TO STICK WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE!

Hi Dave,

Random postings bring surprises!
So thanks...........

As for Rapidshare - ultimately they will get what they deserve as subscriptions start to die away

Have a good weekend

thanks for all your work! didnt you say, that you will use hotfile in future? i hope so.

Want to save time and bandwidth?

How about ONLY posting the truly great shows and forgetting the rest?

Do we need 25+ different Led Zeppelin/Pink Floyd/Eric Clapton/Etc. shows with virtually the same setlist?

I like these great bands, but I'm not that obsessed with them. Are you?

Just askin'...

Thanks for all you efforts!

Keep up the good work.

I have discovered your fantastic blog only recently. I can assure you, I will enjoy your posts any way you like. Do it as you please. It is our best bet to get fantastic live music.

As for rapidshare, I open an account because of your blog. I suppose rapidshare will non longer get my business. I will surely give a try to FileServe.

Enough of the easy listening stuff. You can lay off the Floyd.

Thanks for all that you do!

Dave:

Thanks for all of your dedicated work here.

Do what you want with the postings, it's all great.

As far as CrApid Share, they might start figuring things out as their base drops. I'm just glad I did not open a premium account with them...

Dave, thanks again for all you do!!

Sounds like RS is getting just a tad bit greedy.........

Lots of great comments here that I echo, especially from "Matt from PA." -- basically, we appreciate what you do, Dave, so do what makes you happy.

We will continue to check daily and like someone mentioned, the coffee break surprises (i.e., ZOUNDS! I gotta download this when I get home!!) will continue to be appreciated, in whatever order they might appear.

Dave - Thanks for making me look on Fridays again. Your site is great - we get the music we want along with the source and quality. Too many others just post w/o any commentary. Keep up the great work.

Any chance of getting some James, more Alice In Chains, Garbage, Linkin Park, etc. Some more modern bands - without delving into pop - would be very appreciated.
