-Nice audience tape that could use some EQ as it is quite bright. A New York crowd between the songs, but no real issues during the music.
-Tape flip between tracks 11 & 12 so missing a bit there.
-Help with songlist or verification needed for tracks 10-11. "National Education Week" seems re-arranged & possibly different lyrics with another song included. Incredible jams for 20 minutes & really too bad there's a cut in the middle, as it was possibly non-stop.

Recording Information ::: unknown stereo equipment -> master tape -> 1st generation cassette -> 2nd generation Maxell XLII-S 90 cassette, Dolby B on.

Playback 2011-08-04 ::: 2nd generation Maxell XLII-S 90 cassette on Nakamichi BX-300 cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth & pitch adjusted, heads cleaned & demagnatized -> Tascam CD-RW900SL pro CD recorder -> CD-RW -> computer, EAC secure -> wavs -> Audacity (fades &/or glitches, volume adjustments, no EQ) -> CD Wave (track splits) -> Trader's Little Helper -> yer ears. Audaity also included my first attempt at channel re-synching, as it was clear, from either heads mis-alignment or more likely the stereo spread from the microphone placement, that the channels were not lined up on the master. It seemed to help some. If there were Dolby issues that caused the brightness, it happened from the master to first, or when someone made my copy. I decoded with Dolby on as marked on the tape. First uploaded 2011-12-19.

Line-up: Natalie Merchant - lead Vocals // John Lombardo - rhythm guitars // Robert Buck - lead guitar, synthesizer, mandolin(?), accordian(?) // Steven Gustafson - bass // Dennis Drew: organ, piano // Jerome Augustyniak - drums

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

CoolSonics 081 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders! ::: Corrections welcome ::: Many more people would enjoy this than realise it. The spontaneity & magic that seemed to disappear into the void with fame is still happening here. Going to see that band with less than 80 people in the audience at the original half-size Iron Horse, with Natalie sketching & singing at the same time on stage & lost in her own world was something to behold. Someone could really work magic with some professional EQ on this recording. Some bass added & the high-end brought down & it would be a really fine recording. It seems a more intense performance than the London show that circulates from around the same time.
Do whatever you want with it except sell it, 'cause that ain't cool!
