In the late 60s and early 70s, very few artists enjoyed the popularity of Three Dog Night. The group charted twenty-one Top 40 hits in a little over a half decade.
In this particular show, twenty of the group's twenty-one Top 40 singles were played (only "Out In The Country"--which reached #15 on the charts--wasn't played).
For a group that enjoyed such immense popularity, it's dumbfounding that there aren't more Three Dog Night shows floating around, but let's at least be thankful for this one, as it's a beauty...and a must for anyone who likes Three Dog Night!

TheCommish notes: Overall, a very nice-sounding show. The vocals are prominent in the mix, but you'd expect that for two reasons: (1) Three Dog Night is primarily a vocal-based act, and (2) the smaller venue meant the guitars didn't need additional amplification from the soundboard.

Per Wikipedia, Three Dog Night's 1985 spring/summer tour was postponed to allow Chuck Negron time to check into rehab to combat his recurring drug problem. As it turns out, Chuck suffered a relapse during the tour and was fired by the band in December 1985, a month after this show...and that was the last time all three lead vocalists performed together in Three Dog Night.
After cleaning up his act, Chuck approached Danny and Cory in the early 1990s about re-joining the group but due to various circumstances, a re-group never occurred.

"Alright guys. I think i've stumbled across a rare gem that no one out there has or has heard.
Our drummer showed played me a cassette tape of Power Windows in its entirety before it was even taken to the recording studio. That's right, sort of like a pre power windows personal recording of Alex's.
Now, he says that he's probably the only one who has it, and here's why.
Apparently a friend of his was walking downtown in Toronto, and Alex Lifeson's son had this tape, and was shouting out, "listen to my dads new album power windows!!" etc. And this friend of my drummers was given the tape by lifesons son, and then gave it to our drummer since he knew he was a hardcore Rush fan.
So now our drummer has this tape, and he's certain that no one else has it, so I wanted to check in with you guys to see if anyone else out there has it, and whether or not its worth it to make it public.
For the record, he played the tape for me, and I listened to manhattan project, and he wasnt lying. Completely different arrangements and a nice home made sound to recording. It's like sitting in the house with them while they jam. Quite amazing.
So he's going to back it up to CD, and give me a copy, and i'll make it public for you all to hear if this is something that no one knows of. So let me know.
This isnt one of those lame threads of someone just making up BS for something to do. I wouldn't yank your chains. This thing is real, and im willing to share it with you guys if you wanna hear it. I'm gonna stay on him and make sure he puts it to CD for me."

OU comments: a year after playing in Spit (and broadcast on WFNX radio), they moved into the room Spit used to be a corner of, for a free concert, and broadcast it on WBCN. there was a big birthday cake for everyone to indulge in along with a nice concert, when voices carry and love in a vacuum had become local artist favorite songs. the crowd really liked it. And why not? It's 'Til Tuesday! they may be a pop group, and I don't listen to much pop music but this is nice pop music. Aimee went on to have a fairly successful album without TT which is also good, but this is where most of us in Boston first heard her (not necessarily this concert). How many bands do two encores at a free concert?
they obviously enjoyed playing this show, and everyone who heard it enjoyed it too. now a few more can hear it too.

OU: I think I have something really special to share with all [you], but first a bit of background. RLR has been a very active trader back in the early 80´s with very wide musical tastes: he could go from Kiss to Joni Mitchell; from Genesis to Deep Purple, Queen, Simple Minds, The Who, Springsteen and many more.
RLR had all sorts of tapes in his collection, traded not long after the show happened so most of them are low generation, in particular tons of shows recorded in Italy which to me are some of the most interesting are mostly first copies from the master.
RLR had lots of fellow tapers who traded their copies with him. Some of them, I had never seen circulating in the trading circuit and nearly all of them have tremendous sound quality. Unfortunately he did not care about specific generation so this info, except for the shows he has as masters, is not available.
RLR has kindly given me access once again to his collection. It was like a "kid in a toy shop" situation: it was hard to select tapes and at the end I came home with some 250 tapes to listen and eventually to transfer in the digital domain. Some of them will be shared here, possibly the most interesting ones.
I think this is my first UH upload, this is a hell of a band, both heavy and progressive, probably opening for this style at least one decade before Dream Theater and company. Qualitywise this is again very good. -ldb

What's a bootlegger to do when the same old Spin show has been repackaged so many times that everyone who's ever going to buy a copy already has one? Why not stoop to deliberate deception? As a possibly intentional clue to this item's bogosity, the inlay photo depicts a street in what looks suspiciously more like Manhattan than Boston. Caveat emptor.
CD was "reissued" in 1997 with different artwork.

Nuerburgring - 1st ever Rock am Ring Festival - Sunday May 26th 1985
Master - Audience recording from my old TDK-Sa C-90 Tapes

OU: This concert I taped with an AIWA walkman and an extra microphone (I can't remember what microphone it was). I taped this one from the middle of the audience about 15 meters from the stage. The sound quality is very good +, sometimes better, it has the typical open-air-audience quality.
It was the last act on the first Rock-am-Ring way back in 1985. I had to go through many many hard stuff like U2 or Gianna Nannini or Rick Springfield or Marillion. And I survived all that before.
But then, this happened. Foreigner as a TOP-act. Playing songs I don't know and did never ever wanted to know. And just preparing this I recognized so many of 'em. Aaaaaargh!! And .. as far as I remember .. they had a complete school-choir on stage. Perhaps this was the reason too that I never ever went to another Rock-am-Ring again.
