Robin Trower: Rehearsals And Jams 1974 (Ex. Soundboard) FLAC

S_A060919-02_Robin Trower_For Earth Below copy
"For Earth Below" Rehearsals And Jams
Old Victorian Church, London, England
September 1974
2 CDs
INFO: After Robin Trower finished up his UK dates in mid-August 1974, in support of "Bridge of Sighs," he fired drummer Reg Isidore. Trower and bassist/vocalist James Dewar then flew to Los Angeles to audition new drummers. Trower had decided he wanted an American drummer with a distinctively American feel. After auditioning several drummers, Trower got a call from Bill Lordan, formerly of Sly Stone's band. Trower later told an interviewer that Lordan phoned him up and boasted that he was the best man for the job and to look no further. Lordan more than backed up this bold claim during his audition and immediately clinched the gig.
In September 1974, Trower, Dewar, Lordan, and producer Matthew Fisher (keyboardist in Trower's old band, Procol Harum) assembled in London and rented a church to rehearse in and jam. The London rehearsals were designed to work out a new sound for the band, to help the new lineup gel, and to firm up ideas for their third album, FOR EARTH BELOW, which Fisher was producing.
In a very informative interview posted at Steve's Place, an excellent Trower website, Trower drummer Bill Lordan recalls: "I went to England in September of 1974 to start rehearsals . . . [for the third album] FOR EARTH BELOW, the rehearsals were in an old Victorian Church in London. It wasn't an abandoned church, but it wasn't being used for services. It had a great acoustical sound for us. After rehearsing for a few weeks, we returned to Los Angeles to start recording FOR EARTH BELOW at The Record Plant [Hollywood], with Matthew Fisher producing. We cut the album and it seems like we went right on tour and I remember that the first gig was in Rochester, NY, November 4th, 1974." FOR EARTH BELOW was released in February 1975.
All of the material here comes from those September 1974, jams and rehearsal sessions at the old Victorian church in London. NONE of these are studio outtakes or different mixes from the album. All of the numbers here are jams and rehearsals. They were recorded on a portable machine in the rehearsal room, and are not professional studio tracks. These numbers have a rough, jam feel to them similar to the Led Zep III and Stairway Sessions rehearsals and jams. This material is very special because it shows us a view of the Trower band that few have ever seen. Included are great jazz-rock fusion jams. These present a very unusual side of Trower. Matthew Fisher even joins in and plays keyboards on several of these wonderful jazz-rock and jazz-blues jams.
In this material, we get the treat of listening to the band's creative process, as they work out ideas and experiment, doing some old numbers from the first two albums and working out new ideas for their third album.
This is a rare opportunity to hear this superb, newly formed lineup having fun and letting go in a rehearsal room. Trower's guitar work is fabulous. NONE of these jams have been released anywhere, in any form. The quality is EX, similar to the Led
Zep III Rehearsals or Stairway Sessions, and typical of a portable tape deck in the rehearsal room, which is what this band used to record their ideas in progress. This material comes from a very clean, low-gen tape of those jams.
Please actively support Robin Trower and buy his releases, including his great new CD and DVD.

Michael Jackson: Rotterdam 1988 (VG Aud) FLAC

michael_jackson_2
1988-06-05 Feijenoord Stadion, Rotterdam, Holland
Source: MKE 40/6 (2) > WMD6C > RR-Edit
Location: Field, around 50 metres off speakers stack on the right
Transfer: Master Cassette > Nakamichi DRAGON > Tascam SSR1 > CF Car > PC editing > Flac (TLH, best)
Editing: Reel Records (Soundforge, Magix Samplitude, BBE Sonic Maximizer, sev. Plug-Ins > WAV > FLAC)
Editing Note: One channel was distorted, this channel was used for editing, copied to other channel and made pseudo-stereo.
Artwork: Not supplied.

OU Notes: As I was relaxing a bit late this evening I watched some TV and the news programs told Michael Jackson was taken to hospital, being in a coma and also might have died. While writing this more messages of his death appear on the Internet.
Because of this sad occasion I'm uploading this, had planned to do it this year to "shock" some old friends of mine - those who know me as an old time Jimi Hendrix and Neil Young collector - but also those who know me as one who likes performers from Laurie Anderson to Warren Zevon.
It's sad that Michael's possible death has triggered me to uploading this recording right now........
Why did I record this one: my little (youngest) sister was very much into Michael Jackson in the 80's. She started to collect his LP's and (of course) I encouraged her and told her: "If Michael comes to Holland I will get us tickets". Some thursday afternoon I heard at work of this show being on sale and took the afternoon off to fix tickets. This was the pre-WWW era and
therefore I went to Amsterdam's main ticket shop but failed to get tickets....... Phoned my little sister to bring her the bad news of my failure. She however went to the local record shop (ELPEE) and fixed for her and me field tickets and bus-transport to/from the show. After that I simply had co comply and went to the show with her and also recorded the show. Unfortunately one channel was distorted and therefore I copied the good channel over the bad one, edited it all and made it pseudo(fake)-stereo.
Should the sad news be true; may Michael Jackson rest in peace - the media must have tormented his soul a lot.
Dave's notes: a rather clear recording that would benefit from a parametric eq to strengthen the low end.

Robin Trower w. James Dewar on bass & vocals and Bill Lordan on drums.

Here is a good quality soundboard from the UK during the For Earth Below Tour in February 1975. Early Trower soundboards are very rare. This one is quite good but the dynamic range shows the era (70's) and media (cassette) used. Hope you all enjoy this wonderful show.

A MJ concert will be up Monday.

we are all aware of his personal issues (and NOBODY condones PEDOPHILLIA, if indeed he was guilty) but he was undoubtedly one of the most gifted entertainers that we have ever witnessed.

i closed this to comments since it seemed that anonymous posters began to turn against people making legitimate comments (too bad - very disappointing)

Take Care Friends and I hope that Michael found the peace that he so desperately needed.

Very good to excellent FM source, however the drift in Supper's Ready makes me cry.
Includes a rare performance of Inside and Out. Further research on my part has revealed that this Highland set is a straight rip of the Silver Rarities "Beyond Riches" release, with the addition of the bonus track. Disc 1 identifies as SR, the Earl's Court material on Disc 2 is identical in length has and identical FM anomalies. The only difference here is that The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and The Musical Box (Closing Section) are correctly tracked as one track.
Artwork is included in .tiff format.

kinks7
Schleyerhalle
Stuttgart, Germany
Dec. 21, 1994
Soundboard recording - excellent sound quality!!!
Here's a great-sounding show that I recently downloaded from TapeCity; my thanks to tbshag1 for sharing it over there. UNFORTUNATELY, there were some small defects in that torrent...so I fixed them (see Editing Notes below) and now offer the "fixed" version of this outstanding Kinks show.

Setlist:
101. A Well Respected Man
102. Sunny Afternoon
103. Do It Again (tease)
104. Kinks intro > Countdown
105. Till The End Of The Day
106. All Day And All Of The Night
107. Low Budget
108. Celluloid Heroes
109. Apeman
110. Scattered
111. Death Of A Clown
112. Phobia
113. Dead End Street

201. Come Dancing
202. Father Christmas (tease)
203. Aggravation > New World > Aggravation
204. You Really Got Me
205. A Gallon Of Gas >
206. Welcome To Sleazy Town
207. Deutschland
208. Lola
209. Days
210. Twist And Shout

Editing notes:
* Almost all of the original FLACs had microgaps at the ends of the files; these gaps were manually removed via Nero's wave editor
* Re-tracked show by combining in Nero, splitting with CD Wave
* There was a 3-second dip in the volume in "You Really Got Me" (from the 0:52 mark to the 0:55 mark); increased the volume of this section by 5 dB with Nero
* There was a small gap in "Celluloid Heroes" right before Ray says the word "street"--I reduced the gap as best I could so that it's not as noticeable
* There were 4 instances where a piece of the recording was repeated (similar to when a vinyl record "skips"...maybe it was a bad CD rip???). I manually deleted the unneeded repititions in these 4 spots:
1. "Do It Again": removed an extra "Do it again" at end of song
2. "All Day And All Of The Night": removed an extra "relief" at end of song
3. "Scattered": removed an extra closing note at end of song
4. "Welcome To Sleazy Town": removed an extra cymbal at close of song

Notes: Partial recording of a live in studio performance broadcast on Q107 (Toronto). Partial because I turned on the radio, this was playing and I scrambled to get a tape and start recording. Following up the rather poor Aural Fixations album, this is promoting the release of the very good and perhaps under-exposed Itch album. I cut the commercials out on the fly and decided to present exactly what I have on tape, so you will get partial commercials and station IDS. Clean it up as you see fit - or not. Enjoy what's here and hopefully a complete version surfaces some day.

Stevie Ray Vaughan's Last Show 1990 Soundboard FLAC

Publication1

Alpine Valley Music Theater

Stevie's Last Show!!
source: feed to video boardcassette(3rd gen.?>CDR-DA>WAV>FLAC

To complete the summer portion of the "In Step" tour, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble played two shows on August 25 & 26 at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, WI, while on tour with Eric Clapton.
For travel to the next venue, the tour manager reserved four helicopters to circumvent congested highway traffic. In very dense fog, the helicopters were clear for lift off at 12:40 A.M. Just past the lift-off zone was a 300-foot hill. Vaughan's helicopter pilot was unfamiliar with the flight pattern for exiting the area, and did not climb to sufficient altitude immediately after take-off. Vaughan's helicopter veered off to one side and crashed into the hill.
alpineslopfromstage
According to the findings as reported by the National Transportation Safety Board, the cause of the accident was determined to be inadequate planning by the pilot, and failure to attain sufficient altitude to clear an obstacle. Fog and haze, as well as the rising terrain were listed as contributing factors. All occupants including Vaughan, the pilot and three members of Eric Clapton's travel group were killed on impact.

Ok, I hope the tracking is OK on this. I used the set list on Bonnaroo.com, but some of the tracks (8-10) didn't match up, at least to me. The sound on this is very nice. It's very clear and the vocals are way out front. The crowd can be heard, especially between tracks. There are a couple of instances of static, but overall it's very sweet.
enjoy! -MSTaper

Sting: East Rutherford 1994 (Ex FM) FLAC

OUT054696
26/02/1994 ??? - East Rutherford, Meadowlands Arena - Radio broadcast
Lineage: Wav -- Fairstars Audio Converter (FLAC level 8) for you
Normally it's a straight copy from an original bootleg. The trader whom has sent to me only has real bootleg. I've also checked one track with Cool Edit Pro 2 and the frequence is really healthy.
STING in Meadowlands :
Quality: A+
Running time: 76'
Artwork: no
OU Notes: Excellent audio quality, excellent performance. They really make something new happen with the songs of Sting. It's the end of the tour but they aren't tired, they are questionning the music, returning it, playing like they don't play usually, making new shapes with it... Well, that night they played freely. Roxanne is excellent. Bring on is magic. "She's too good" and "Nothing about me" are for the first time during the TST tour absolutely perfectly made. Melissa Etheridge IS the voice Every breath you take needed. You have to grab it.

Tracklist :
01 - If I ever lose my faith in you
02 - Heavy Cloud, No Rain
03 - A Day in the life
04 - Fields of gold
05 - Synchronicity II
06 - Every little thing she does is magic
07 - Roxanne (/Consider me gone)
08 - Shape of my heart
09 - Englishman in New-York
10 - King of Pain (/ Demolition man)
11 - Bring on the night
12 - She's too good for me
13 - Nothin but me
14 - Every breath you take (w/ Melissa Etheridge - really sensual)
15 - Fragile

Notes:
- To my knowledge, this is the earliest live recording of Third World. Great source!!! This recording was released in conjuntion with the Freezers Rhapsodizers set ofor this date. Both recordings go hand in hand, and imo, should be listened to together.
- Very little was done to this recording by me, there was a bit pf pre emphasis on the recording that I smoothed out some and some left and right channel level fluctuations that I balanced, but basically, this recording was pristine from the get go. All thanks to Freezer for taping and letting this piece of history out.
- Recording starts with music playing, it doesn't sound like much is missed.
- Satta Massagana has some very heavy instances of feedback at the end, these were attenuated at the board and the music becomes almost inaudible at times. Very minor glitch in a superb recording.
- Recording ends with the last song fading out, again, it doesn't sound like much is lost.

Kansas: Tulsa 1976 (Soundboard) FLAC

PN012620
Oklahoma 1976
Soundboard Recording
OU Notes:
All the information I have is as follows.. Way back many years ago I received this on a cassette tape from a friend of Kerry Livgren. I was told it was from the master tape. After a few years of having it, cds were being created and since I knew nothing of burning them at that time, I sent the tape back out to Topeka, KS. where a fellow KANSAS collector transferred the tape to CDR. I have no idea what program he used.
I listened to the cds today, and felt the hiss was a bit too much, so I used the EQ in SOUNDFORGE to get rid of a bit of hiss. NOT ALL OF IT, as I didn't want to loose any highs. It sounds much better to my ears than the un-fixed version. As far as speed goes, I didn't get out a guitar and check the pitch. I also found that the songs on the 2 cd version I have will fit on one 80 minute cd, so it is presented here that way. (Back when this was done, there were mostly 74 minute cds)
Anyway, I used FLAC 8 to encode it. I hope I have all the details I know listed. I am sure if I have anything wrong I will hear about it!! It is a great show. ONE THING -- this version does not have Kerry's cool pre-recorded keyboard concert intro included. I have never heard a version of Tulsa 76 with it, so I assume it was not recorded.. This starts a bit into COWS..
Enjoy and share.

Happy Father's Day from Dave @ QB

fathe
A Father's Value
by Mark Brandenburg MA, CPCC

It happened when I least expected it. During an afternoon in which I had been lamenting my role as a “janitor” with my family, my seven-year-old daughter put things back into perspective for me. “You’re the best daddy in the world,” she whispered to me as she gave me a big hug.

I was thankful as she ran down the hall, for I was too overwhelmed to respond to her comment in a coherent manner. My vision of myself as an unappreciated victim had been extinguished in a flash; in its place I felt a joy and sense of gratitude that was overpowering.

On further reflection I was reminded of a painful law involving family life: The more you believe you deserve appreciation, the less you’ll get. Seeking appreciation and gratitude from your kids won’t lead you anywhere but to resentment. But if you stay involved long enough, you’ll find moments like this one that are worth hanging on to.

It’s easy for fathers to feel unappreciated and to feel like they inhabit a place outside the emotional “core” of the family (mom and the kids). But the value of involved fathers to their families is becoming increasingly clear. Recent research has pointed out the absolute necessity of a father’s positive influence on his children.

The first bit of research is from a collection of agencies, including the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Department of Justice, the Center for Disease Control, and the National Principals Association. The translation of these studies show just how valuable fathers are to their kids. The statistics are remarkable:

Children from a fatherless home are:
-5 times more likely to commit suicide
-32 times more likely to run away
-20 times more likely to have behavioral disorders
-14 times more likely to commit rape
-9 times more likely to drop out of school
-10 times more likely to abuse chemical substances
-9 times more likely to end up in a state operated institution
-20 times more likely to end up in prison

Perhaps even more interesting was the pooling of parenting research that the Wall Street Journal did in June of 2003. The research suggests that “interactions with a father are equally, if not more, important than interaction with a mother in a child’s positive development.”

While we don’t want to turn this into a debate over who’s more important, the fact that this notion is now being considered is a testament to the growing realization of a father's importance.

So the next time you’re questioning your value to your family, remember that these are just feelings of victimization from your past. They have very little connection to the present moment.

Your value to your kids is immense.

Know that they need you to be involved and that they need your approval.

And then give it to them.

++++
Take Care and I hope that your day is special!
Dave

THE STORY:
On 07.02.06 at 18:08:46, Andy Hill aka "broadway" wrote on the official forum: "I came across two old tapes of the Genesis Sheffield City Hall 17th April '80 and just had a quick listen. The sound quality is excellent and the tapes are in good condition. I was wondering if anyone had the time or inclination to attempt transferring and remastering (if necessary). This source is low gen (1st or second). I realise there are several great versions of this already but you can't have enough Genesis boots eh? Thanks Andy"
So he sent the tapes to Speedy - he made a quick transfer by himself and sent the tapes together with a DVD containing his transfer files and another raw source (the famous Tony Ryan tapes that were used for SAB12) that he thought could be useful to fill the gaps on Andy's tapes.
I was lucky to get the original tapes - I always prefer to do the transfer by myself just because of two reasons: it will be done by professional equipment and it's possible to align the azimuth of the cassette player's head to the tape. So thanks again Andy for providing me with your masters!
The tapes turned out to be awesome - very clean, almost without FM statics and well balanced. Only few minor dropouts and clicks could be noticed. The sad thing was that the songs were faded in and out at the beginning and the end of each tape side, sometimes by overlapping for some seconds but some bits were missing. So it was pretty clear that the tapes were 1st gen at least and it was obvious that I would need the other source to fill the gaps.
Andy's tapes were encoded with Dolby B and the STUDER A721 could decode it properly, so I gained some dBs in signal-to-noise ratio in this way. There was still a huge amount of hissing left - so I decided to do a slight broadband de-hissing by Cedar Cambridge's Dehiss-3 module first, which meant that I would have to do another de-noise processing - after the EQ stage. This operation is usually more successful on high hissing levels than a single de-noising stage because it produces less artifacts.
Next step was speed correction - all Sheffield recordings suffer from being too slow - sadly the A721 has no varispeed so I had to do this in the digital world. - Then came EQing. Very important! I'm always trying to use official released tracks as sound references which usually helps a lot, so I used Deep In The Motherlode from Drury Lane 1980 (Archive 2 box) which worked fine (great sound, Nick! ;)). - For the final de-noising I went back to Cedar, now the NR4 module did it's best. SIAJ was the most critical challenge of this remaster, as music and hissing floor almost had the same level. There are some other similar parts but this one was the worst. So I worked on these particular parts for hours, always trying out different settings and making recalls in-between to make sure I'm dealing with a compromise I can live with (last minute I decided to use the Tony Ryan source for the low level parts of SIAJ, it turned out that it produced less artifacts than the new source).
Next step was to build up a four track session to mix the different sources. This was not the easiest part because they were not only different soundwise but in the stereo image spreading too. And it's complicated anyway to set longer cross-fades between different sources of the same performance because it always causes audible phasing effects. For the last stage I added slight bits of overtones from the Retro Exciter to get back some brilliance in the upper frequency range and I set the overall volume level.
I did some recalls in-between and so I decided to improve the sound balance especially for the quieter sections of the show. It was obvious that the noise reduction had muffled the sound a bit, so it was necessary to add some brilliance here. As a side effect the noise floor rised again, but that was not bad at all.
After the mixdown I had to listen two or three times to the whole show under headphones to notice and eliminate all clicks, dropouts and minor flaws of the
recording. This was the most time-consuming part. AV and Speedy helped a lot here by spotting even the tinyest flaws.
