This one might be a kind of question mark for those 'non-italian' fans of the band. This one does not come from the early or mid-seventies where the band had been touring abroad and having huge success both in Europe and North America. This comes from the very late 70's where the band was back in an italian kind of status. Their last tour in the USA was in 1977.
Progressive rock was also at its lowest level but PFM was still at a very high level. In early 1979 they toured with italian singer Fabrizio De André and in the summer they decided to tour without a new album, just for the fun of it. In
the shows, they would alternate new, yet-to-be-released tracks, jam sessions, older stuff and even a Beatles cover! The mood was very relaxed and after the dismiss of vocalist Bernardo Lanzetti in October 1978, the band was more relaxed behind able to play as the old 5-piece band where a new musician would be introduced (Lucio Fabbri) at the violin.
That is why summer 1979 is one of my favourite PFM tour ever. There is some freshness in the air, abandoning the heavy solos from the 70's but still with a jazz-rock feel that I like. And this is probably the best show I have from that tour, somehow early in the tour since the band had begun to play in late July 1979. During August they would preferably play holiday venues then concentrating in september to bigger towns (Milano, Torino, Roma).
Caorle is a nice little town in the adriatic coast, not very far from Venice. The quality of this show is stunning considering that it is over 30 years ago, soundwise is full and reach and one could think it comes from a recording coming from the band
itself. Enjoy PFM! -ldb
