"Alright guys. I think i've stumbled across a rare gem that no one out there has or has heard.
Our drummer showed played me a cassette tape of Power Windows in its entirety before it was even taken to the recording studio. That's right, sort of like a pre power windows personal recording of Alex's.
Now, he says that he's probably the only one who has it, and here's why.
Apparently a friend of his was walking downtown in Toronto, and Alex Lifeson's son had this tape, and was shouting out, "listen to my dads new album power windows!!" etc. And this friend of my drummers was given the tape by lifesons son, and then gave it to our drummer since he knew he was a hardcore Rush fan.
So now our drummer has this tape, and he's certain that no one else has it, so I wanted to check in with you guys to see if anyone else out there has it, and whether or not its worth it to make it public.
For the record, he played the tape for me, and I listened to manhattan project, and he wasnt lying. Completely different arrangements and a nice home made sound to recording. It's like sitting in the house with them while they jam. Quite amazing.
So he's going to back it up to CD, and give me a copy, and i'll make it public for you all to hear if this is something that no one knows of. So let me know.
This isnt one of those lame threads of someone just making up BS for something to do. I wouldn't yank your chains. This thing is real, and im willing to share it with you guys if you wanna hear it. I'm gonna stay on him and make sure he puts it to CD for me."

Average Rating: Audio: 8.6
The Digital Dan: This source is taken directly from the original master tape, so this is as good as it gets. This is a perfectly preserved performance of Rush during the "AtWaS" tour. This concert is a true gem, better than the other audience performances of this tour. A must have for any Rush fan, this is a perfectly balanced recording of a very tight performance. Makes you wonder why would a band back then want Rush opening for them, they were that good! This show is sourced from the master tape, so it is as clean as it will ever get. It gets a heavy rotation of play and it is among my most favorite / cherished Rush ROIO's. As with all Digital Reproductions recordings, it's only available via free trade and never for sale. Just visit the trading links section to find people that will gladly trade this recording for free.

LeeGeddy: Attention all Rush Fans...this is a MUST HAVE if you like early Rush. When I first heard this recording, I was drooling and giggling with joy. It's so hard to imagine that a recording this old can be so good. This show is reported to be from the Master Analogue tape and it's amazing. Geddy's bass has that warm, fat sound to it..sorta like if you listen to vinyl on a good stereo system. Neil's bass drums will put your subs to the test. I only wished it had just a bit more mid-bass punch to even things out. Alex's guitars are perfectly represented. This recording is a tremendous find for all of us!! (July 2000) I don't know what the reviewer below is listening to, but I highly recommend that he removes his earplugs BEFORE listening to this recording.

ToBeOrWhat: In my humble opinion there are a drought of good bootlegs starting with the “Fly By Night” tour and ending with the “Hemispheres” tour. This newly found source is the first that stakes a claim during that era. It is a nice little show with a very tight and hard-hitting performance. It is listed as an EX+ in sound quality, I don’t think so at all, though it is by all means a very good one. Also, if you take it for its time, it is absolutely breathtaking. I was expecting something along the lines of “A Passage to Oslo PE” and was sourly disappointed at its far miss; however, I do enjoy this show and will listen to it in a very healthy rotation for some time. I’ve heard better performances from the band around this time although this is a great performance anyway. The sound has a little bit of a “hollow” feel, as if it were recorded in a seller or something. Not that warm airy feel of the Oslo ’79 show. Like the Oslo ’79 show this was recorded on poles (I’m told), but you can tell for sure this is an audience recording because of a few instances (that are not at all distracting) where you hear talking or clapping, most notably a “YEAH” at the beginning of “Working Man”. It really won’t bug you, even if you listen on really good headphones! I really enjoy listening to this show, but do not share others enthusiasm for it. Oh ya, in case you are wondering, I does kick the ass of “By-Tor’s Battle”. So much more equalized, much more pleasant to listen to. To me “All the World’s a Stage” is irreplaceable, but this is a nice alternative to listen to. All in all a good package, worth getting.

Eric (Audio - 9.5): This is a must have audience bootleg, how could you live without it? The sound is so nice, crisp, and all of the instruments are straight-forward, loud and clear. Though Rush was just an opening act back in the early 1970's, I bet the people in the crowd were just begging for a little more. I completly recommend this show to anyone.

Rush: Albany 1996 (Ex Soundboard) shn

Echoes On The Stages - Front
Knickerbocker Arena, Albany, New York
October 18, 1996
Source: Soundboard

SHN lineage: Watch Tower silver CD > CDR > EAC > CDWav > SHN (mkW).

OU Notes: This one came out of the blue for me. I'd never even heard rumours that a recording existed of this rehearsal, let alone in crystal clear soundboard quality. This is a totally unique Rush item, being that I'm not aware of tapes for any other full reheasals. I'd consider this a must have for any Rush collector.
This release also flies in the face of a recent trend. For the past couple of years, all of the new superior sources were being released by the Fan for Fan labels, and then the bootleg companies were obtaining copies and releasing exact copies on Silver disc. In the case of this source, I hadn't seen this in the trading community at all until it was released by Watchtower.
Thanks to one kind individual who bought the Silver and traded it freely, the Bootleg has now been liberated into the trading wild.
Artwork has been modified to reflect our philosophy that these should be freely traded and not sold.
Please don't not convert to MP3 unless strictly for your own use. It dilutes the trading pool.

Comments and Reviews:
LeeGeddy: This has to be one of THE greatest find for us RUSH fans. WHERE IN THE WORLD DID THIS SOURCE COME FROM?? WOW!!! The sound is crystal clear with nice stereo separation and a
wonderful mix. Personally, only a wee bit more low end could help this great sounding source. According to the packaging, this source is taken from the rehearsal performance one night before the T4E tour opening night (19 October) at the Knickerbocker Arena, Albany, NY. There is no crowd noise, because there was none. RUSH is going through the entire setlist
(probably) in front of the crew and perhaps few lucky individuals who had the privilege to be there. Sometimes Geddy throws in odd lyrics here and there; and during some of the older songs, Geddy doesn't sing the lyrics at all and just lets the music come through.
Listen to TSoR for some of Geddy's humor!! What a great addition to anyone's list.

SHN lineage: Watch Tower silver CD > CDR > EAC > CDWav > SHN (mkW).
This show is originally available on silver pressed CDs and will fit onto (2CDr SHN). Many mucho mucho thanks to Tito C. for providing the discs and high resolution scans of the artworks. PLEASE TRADE FREELY. (JUNE '02)

Taper's Notes: Well, a few days before seeing the 2011 opening night show from the front row I had a decision to make, do I make the trip up for the Chicago show.... after the 2nd show in Chicago last year was postponed and I was not able to make it for the make up date, I finally decided it was worth the chance, especially since it was inside at a proper venue and hopefully the crowd was a bit better than last year at the horrible outdoor thing they choose to call a venue.
It all paid off bigtime, no problems in getting up to Chicago from FL, great weather, and of course the great hospitality of SiriusJoe!! After arriving at the venue and a very short trip to get inside I made the trek to find where my seat was, I knew what row I was in, but not until I got to the row did I realize I was on the outer aisle and that made all the difference in the world! The crowd was pretty well behaved around me and having the ability to slightly adjust to things with no-one crammed around me is always a good thing :)
The boys put on a great show, the place was pretty packed and they definitely fed off of that. The sound was great where I was and the mix was overall very nice. It made for some great versions of many songs and they were enjoying themselves very much, Geddy seemed very into it and was going off on the bass quite bit. Alex was very outgoing as well and simply shredded during Working Man with Geddy right next to him doing the same. Neil was great as well of course ;) This is what a concert in Chicago should be all about!!!!
Special thanks to cameraeye_34 for the use of the photos for the artwork! And of course, a very, very special thanks to SiriusJoe and his family for the awesome hospitality and making it all a great time and also to SiriusJoe for mastering this puppy!!!

Release Notes: As always, feel free to share this anywhere you'd like, MP3 is fine for personal use, but please don't distribute in that format. Please do not alter/remaster/matrix this release. A great deal of effort went into capturing and producing this recording, and we would prefer it to remain as we have presented it. Your cooperation will encourage many more releases in the future. ;)
Thanks & enjoy the show!

Rush: East Troy 1992 (IEM Soundboard) FLAC

Scanning The Waves PE - Front
Scanning the Waves
6/27/92
Alpine Valley Theater
East Troy, Wi
Source: Scanner

OU:Now thanks to the taper, we have the full scanner source of this show. Best yet, this is mastered from the original DAT master. Since this is a scanner source, there are some receptions problems, but it seems to be a problem only on the guitar channel and not on the soundboard channel. It isn't anything bad, but it is there from time to time. Alex can be heard on the left channel as an electric guitar with no effects. Since Alex uses a wireless guitar system, some people were able to pick it up on a scanner and record it. This is one such case. Alex comes through very clearly with the rest of the band on the monitor channel on the right channel.
While this is probably not a recording I would listen to a lot, it does have its merits. A recording like this provides a very unique perspective and insight into how the songs are deconstructed because you can follow one instrument almost exclusively. If you are a guitar player and are trying to learn Alex's style, this recording is very useful. Special thanks to Admiral Nelson for lending us his source to use for this production.

Please do not
alter/remaster/matrix this release. A great deal of effort went into capturing and producing this recording, and we would prefer it to remain as we have presented it. Your cooperation will encourage many more releases in the future. ;)
Thanks & enjoy the show!

The Digital Dan (Audio - 8/10)
A great master tape source from the ESL tour. As the taper stated, this is the first time anyone other than himself has heard the recording. And we are truly lucky he came forth with the source. This is a fine sounding show and quite rare to find an English performance. The crowd is exceptionally behaved, making little if any noise during the songs. To those non-Americans, this is called being polite! The sound is very full and is even better when played live. I took a little off on the sound rating cause there are a few occasions where the sound is a bit duller than other areas. As for the title, Alex breaks a guitar string at the end of the solo in "Freewill". Starting with the medley there is some high end distortion that was part of the source. Once again thanks to Peter for the wonderful source. As with all Digital Reproductions releases, these are for free trade or blank trade only. If you are attempting to buy one of these recordings, you are being ripped off.

08. Working Man ->
09. Drum Solo (cut in middle due to tape flip)
10. Anthem
Length: 53:58

Notes: JEMS master recording. This transfer was originally done and posted in 2008 by Butterking. The same raw transfer files were used here but everything else was redone from scratch (speed correction, downsampling and tracking) for this repost (Sept 2009). Rush were the support act for Rory Gallagher this night. This show captures Rush on their very first tour touring in support of their self titled debut.

Butterking's original notes: Based on notes I found at DigitalRushExperience.com, this is considered a significant recording in Rush collecting circles as the best audie from the band's first-album tour.
The entry for the show at Digital Rush gives the history of this tape as being found in the back of a closet as a first gen, transferred to VHS hi-fi with some static and drop out problems, then to CD-R from which it has circulated widely.
This then is the first transfer from the master cassette (Scotch normal bias). There's a chunk of Rory Gallagher's encore on the flip side so I assume Rush was opening for him. I haven't had a chance to call "S" to ask him what he recalls about this recording, but we can probably assume it was recorded like nearly every tape we made at the Paramount, from the last row of the main floor next to the curtain sash where we would mount the microphone.
I'd describe myself as a light, slightly closeted Rush fan, but seeing this on shelf at JEMS' northwest "vault," I thought it merited a fresh airing here. I've done nothing but transfer, stitch together the two sides, and add a fade in and out.
Butterking for JEMS

From site: Another one of those shows where it seems to be a touch better than a VG+, but not quite the EX- rating. After listening to this show in its entirety I really enjoyed the fact all instruments can be heard quite clearly and are mixed rather well. The band seems to be into their performance and having fun during their 3rd night in Toronto. There are your normal splices because of tape flipping, but nothing is cut from the show. Alex once again plays his little ditty at the beginning of La Villa and they also continue to do the reggae style Working Man. As in night #2 the sound can be a bit muffled a few times, but nothing to distract from the show. One great show worth having if you love the Moving Pictures Era!

Production notes: This recording has previously been available as "Last Signal". The source that was used for that had a problem with the music (especially the bass) bleeding through from the reverse side of the tape resulting in some strange distortions. The source for this, provided by The Old Dog, does not suffer from this problem so can be considered an upgrade from Last Signal. Last Signal includes a radio interview with Neil Peart. Since it was not on the tape I have not included it in this release. To the gig and the recording. A decent sounding show with a very lively audience as you can tell from Geddy's requests for everyone to calm down to prevent crushing at the front. I can testify to the beldlam at the front since I was up against the barrier right in front of Lerxst at this gig Smiley. There are a couple of cuts, Xanadu and La Villa Stangiato are both truncated. Thanks to The Old Dog for the tape. Thanks also to Nephronic for the artwork. Look closely, it's a Rush Cow!

As far as I know, the only existing version of this show comes from my master, so if you already have the Milano show, it is likely this one.
Excellent show indeed, the band was in top form and the Milano audience as hot as always. I taped this show with my Sony MD recorder from the right side, on the balcony, that's why the sound is not as good as I wanted to be. Also, during the
oldies' medley, I had to hide my microphone under my jacket because apparently a crew member was walking very close to me. You can clearly hear this on the recording!
Enjoy!

OU NOTES: Geddy said a few words in between Subdivisions and Natural Science regarding the minature Professor next to his keyboards. Some of those words included the phrase: "The scientists at Rush productions spare no expense to bring you the finest special effects", hence the title for this release is born.

Tons of photos included!

Location: Section 122, Row F
Config: Audience stealth in hat
Source: CSB w/Bass Rolloff On -> Edirol R-09 [Line In ~ WAV 16bit/44.1kHz]
Conversion: Master WAVs ~> PC ~> Editing/Tracking ~> FLAC Level 8
Editing: Cool Edit Pro 2.0 [fades, boost, limits]
Tracking: CDWAV
Checksums: Traders Little Helper (MD5, FFP, and SBE verification)

MASTERING NOTES: This is a good quality recording. It is raw and has NO EQ. Some hard limiting (peak -1dB) was performed during the explosions (Far Cry and 2112). A 6dB boost was needed for the entire recording, as I had the levels set low.
