The Monkees: Sunrise 1987 (VG Aud) FLAC

img287
Live July 22, 1987
Sunrise, Florida
Sunrise Musical Theatre

OU: Over 20 years ago my pals and I went to see The Monkees on the second wing of their reunion tour. I brought my tape recorder and taped the show.
This show contains 2 songs by Weird Al Yankovic who opened. There are 29 songs here by The Monkees. I had a second tape with the rest of the show but I have no idea where it is. They performed their songs quickly thus why they did so many of them.
I was 15. I used a portable tape recorder. The quality of the songs aren't great but very listenable. The Weird Al songs are a bit rough but it clears up a bit. Remember I was 15 and I was a Monkees freak at the time so you will hear some screaming at times. I just thought I'd dust off this tape and share it to the world. Maybe it will mean something to someone. Enjoy.

Duran Duran: Tokyo 1987 (FM) FLAC

cov87tokyo0322_front

Tokyo FM Broadcast
Lineage: FM>CD R>WAV>FLAC (obtained in trade)

Intro
A View To A Kill
Notorious
Save A Prayer
Skin Trade
Hungry Like The Wolf
Wild Boys
The Reflex

OU: This FM broadcast was released as a vinyl called “That Fatal Kiss”. This FLAC rip is supposed to be taken from a tape of the broadcast with some unknown remastering done to it. It sounds pretty good and is a nice compliment to the more famous FM show from this period, the Beacon Theatre show in New York. Thanks to xiexie5551 for the rip. Rob (humanracer25)

At least the 3/17 show has circulated in the past in unknown generation. Here it is from the broadcast master tape. I’ve never seen the 11/19 show anywhere, but even if ya do have it, this one is probably an upgrade.
Enjoy! Please Don’t Sell!! Please Don’t Disseminate in MP3 Format!!

They Might Be Giants: New York 1987 (Soundboard) FLAC

tmbg
Gusto House, New York City
1987-12-31 (10PM Show)

LINEAGE: SBD > TDK SA60 (1GEN) > Nakamichi DR-1 > Cubase 4 > AIFF Bounce > MacFLAC Level 8

OU NOTE: I ripped this from my own cassette collection, which I collected from 1988 to 1994. This is the 1GEN master direct from the TMBG extended family. Foolishly, I broke a promise and leaked this onto Usenet via tape trading in 1993 or so. It was the first and last tape I was ever given, believe you me.
NOTE 2: This was obviously recorded solely because they wanted to have a record of the New Year itself. The fact that we got half an hour of additional music is strictly incidental. Hence, this tape begins about 2/3 of the way through the 10PM show.
From the New York Times, 12/25/1987:
"They Might Be Giants, Gusto House, 197 East Fourth Street (information: Dial-a-Song). The prolific duo of John Flansburgh and John Linnell, also known as They Might Be Giants, write frantic, funny, tuneful pop songs, overstuffed with images and information and titles like ''Nothing's Gonna Change My Clothes'' and ''Alienation's for the Rich.'' Their latest works are dispensed via Dial-a-Song (718-367-6962), one of New York's most original answering-machine messages. While in concert, They Might Be Giants perform with taped backup, live accordion and guitar, homemade props and enough manic energy to make a listener forget they're using tapes. Sets at 10 P.M. and 12:30 A.M.; admission $10 all evening."

*** GAGLIEM's TECH INFO ***
The bootleg "LA Palace" was a good one, but it was recorded at a slightly slow pitch and didn't contain the whole show, as it's missing the first 30 seconds of "Shelter From The Storm" and some Wayne speeches between songs. The most notable things to fix were two bad diginoise on "Wasteland" and "Sacrilege" (at 1:45 and 1:07 respectively, unbareable if listened with earphones), then the usual gaps, etc (on tracks 1,4,9). The recording also has a slight backround noise and the L/R channels inverted, then all this has been also fixed.
During somes songs there are some feedbacks in Wayne's mic during "Like A Hurricane" (4:35; 5:03) and "1969" (2:20), then on the first chord of "Love Me To Death" there's a sudden pan of guitar volume from the left channel to the right: all this is present in the original broadcast and this last issue was left unchanged, but the mic's feedbacks were really annoying, so I left them, as they're part of the real gig, but I've attenuated them in order to be less dangerous to our ears... anyway, in the extra folder I've included these tracks with their original feedbacks, if you want the "real" concert.
The "In America" CD had few tracks from this show but had the whole "Shelter From The Storm", with a slight inferior quality than the other bootleg, but it was useful to patch & fix the missing seconds of that song.
When all that could be done was completed, came out a tape of unknow generation, but almost low, with some dropouts and gaps during "Serpent's Kiss", but had the full bradcast, including the encore break and Wayne speeches between songs.
At this point all was patched again and now this should be the full broadcast... I didn't any EQ as some of you liked the "bass" sound this gig has...
About the artwork, I didn't have so much free time to spend on it, unfortunately the original "LA Palace" artwork had a sticker on the front cover, hiding Craig's face (maybe at that time, the seller knew the truth that wasn't Craig the bass player at that gig :D ), so I did some basic re-working and here it is....
*** GAGLIEM's NOTES ***
During the USA Crusade '87 tour, the Mission had to play two shows the 14 of May 1987 (afternoon and night) at the Palace in Los Angeles in order to be broadcasted by a radio station, and part of them used for a forthcoming american film, more datails are well described in the Mish biography book "Names are for tombstones baby" (starting from page 87).
The short story of what's written in the book is that the film company pulled out the event at the last minute, but the radio station refused to cancel the shows, while the band didn't wanted to play, as they needed to take a break. Then all that stress, plus drugs & alcohol, had their first victim of the band in Craig, who had a breakdown before the soundcheck, which caused him to get back home and the rest of the band had to replace him with Pete Turner, their sound man.
This is the full remastered version of that afternoon concert broadcast (using three sources), which was a nice performance, considering all the facts happened before, with a short setlist including some usual classics and "Serpent's Kiss" which shouldn't be played, but requested by the audience, plus a nice acoustic version of "Love Me To Death" just before "Sacrilege", where one of the two guitars slightly goes out of tune, ending the performance "in-tune" with the bad day the band was passing through....
Finally, Big Thanks to AndreaR "BirdOfPassag" (for his "LA Palace" and "In America" CDs) and Stefano "DJNeph" (for his low generation tape) for allowing me to realize this matrix/remastered full version of this show.
Thanks also to AlexD and Petra for additional infos about what happened that day and the rest of the US tour.
Enjoy this gig!!!!

Total Running Time 0:29:42

Wayne Hussey: Vocals, Guitars, keyboards
Craig Adams: Bass
Mick Brown: Drums
David Wolfenden: Guitars
Tim Bricheno: Guest Guitar on "Beyond The Pale" and "Tower Of Strength"

*** GAGLIEM's TECH INFO ***
This time the recording was really good, the only most notable things are two sudden volume/stereo loss & dropouts in the right channel during the third chorus of "Butterfly On A Wheel" and during the last chorus of "Beyond The Pale", plus some usual mirogaps or drop-outs all over the tracks (typical of old tape recodings)... all this has been fixed.
Also, even if the whole recording has more sound in the right channel, the left channel's volume on tracks 1 & 2 was too much lower than the right one, don't know if that's in the original broadcast and also tracks 2 has a gradual increase of left ch. until the end... maybe not so audible on hi-fi stereos, but very annoying listening these two tracks with earphones on some PC audio cards or portable players...
Track 1 was almost easy to fix, but when I tried to balance the volume correctly on track 2 (gradually contrasting its volume increase and raising it at the end), alone it sounded excellent, but it sounded more heavier and louder if compared to the other tracks (?!), so I balanced the left channel leaving it a little lower than the right one... that seemed to work..
Then I applied a slight Hiss Reduction and some EQ to give back the sound the correct balance of treble & bass.
The last fix was removing the radio speaker at the beginning of "Into The Blue" and between "Beyond The Pale" and "Tower Of Strength" (rebuilding the songs' parts where he talks over'em); for those who want to hear him (and can understand the Finnish speaker), I've included the removed sequences in the "extra" folder...
...then the tech details:
> Standard Normalization
> Distortions Corrected/Attenuated:
01) 0:23; 0:39; 0:42; 1:25; 2:08
02) 3:59->4:04 [low vol dx]; 4:20; 5:07; 6:00,091; 6:00,646; 6:02,927; 6:07
03) 1:16; 1:19; 3:24; 3:29
04) 1:36; 3:35
05) 2:32; 4:48 [low vol dx]; 4:49; 5:04; 5:19
06) 1:39;[2:14 not fixed, seems in the original performance, like a mic bumping]
there are also some issues presente in the original broadcast left untouched (buzzing or distortions in the mics, guitars' jack plug/unplug noises, etc.)
> Hiss Reduction
> Track 01 Left / Right Channel volume balanced
> Track 02 Left Channel gradual fade out to contrast exactly the gradual volume raising, then Right / Channel volume balanced
> EQ
> Removed Radio Speaker introducing "Into The Blue"
> Removed Radio Speaker between "Beyond The Pale" and "Tower Of Strength"

*** GAGLIEM's NOTES ***
This cd contains my remaster of a "short but nice" radio broadcast capturing partially The Mission playing at the Provinssirock Festival, in a rainy Seinäjoki, with Dave Wolfenden on guitars as substitute for Simon Hinkler (who left the band on april's end), supporting Wayne, Craig and Mick during the prosecution of the Deliverance Tour.
The broadcast begins with "Into The Blue", soon after followed by "Butterfly On A Wheel" and "Serpent's Kiss", all three hit singles of their respective albums.
Then Wayne goes towards the piano and, while some in the crowd ask for "Kingdom Come", starts softly "Sea Of Love", which ends with the usual fast pace... then the broadcast focuses on Wayne introducing Tim Bricheno (from the band "All About Eve") guesting on "Beyond The Pale" and "Tower Of Strength".
During these songs, Wayne's voice sometimes disappears or seems extremely distant, maybe due to microphone's tech problems (it doesn't seem his voice is going), but both songs stand alone with their energy, until the broadcast fades out in the middle of "Tower Of Strength"...
This time the challenging (and funniest) part of this remaster wasn't remastering the tracks, but using Gimp 2 and doing the artwork with the same fantastic look that Keith Breeden gave to the "Carved In Sand" album and all the singles that followed ("Deliverance 12" Lim. Ed. over all).
Finally, Big Thanks to StephNeph for allowing me to remaster his excellent tape.
Enjoy this gig!!!!
Gagliem
PS: There's another partial FM Broadcast, which included "Amelia" and "Child's Play" (before "Into The Blue") and "Deliverance" (which cuts in, after "Tower Of Strength"), but both recordings are incomplete.

The original Ratt/Poison tour. This one is a very rough recording but i haven't seen it going around so i thought i'd go ahead and put it out. Lots of crowd noise as it was a crazy crowd. It's also incomplete as the last song Body Talk gets cut off, other than that the only thing missing is Dance which was after Body Talk. The die hards should like it. The opening Poison set sounds much better. Enjoy.
Most of my recordings from 1986-2002 have been circulating as i used to do a lot of trading back in the day. All uploads however will be new master tape transfers directly from the master tape to CD.
Enjoy! Brian.

Georgia Satellites: Reading 1987 (Ex FM) FLAC

zoom_2c05dc2e1aaf4ae4ad951a35f60f7e7d
Live At The Reading Festival, England, 29 August 1987
LINEAGE: FM Broadcast - Cassette - Rme Digi 96/8 Pro Soundcard - WAV - FLAC (Level 8 Compression)
Recorded In 24 Bit With Adobe Audition 2.0, Normalized Then Converted To 16 Bit With Dither
Converted To Flac With Easy Cd-Da Extractor 12

1. The Myth Of Love
2. No Particular Place To Go
3. Battleship Chains
4. Nights Of Mystery
5. I Just Wanna Make Love To You
6. Can't Stand The Pain
7. Keep Your Hands To Yourself
8. Sweet Little Rock 'N' Roller

OU: This was from a re-broadcast in the early 90s on Alan "Fluff" Freeman's (RIP) Saturday Rock Show. I was a bit late hitting the record button so "Hello England" got missed! Other than that it is the complete broadcast.
It sounds like there is an edit between tracks 6 and 7 - I have no idea if there are songs missing or just some chat. I'd be interested to hear if anyone knows anything about that.
I've faded in the beginning but left the ending intact for people to do whatever they like with, mainly because I think fadeouts with Audition don't sound right and I'm temporarily without Pro Tools!
