Review: This is yet another incredible quality recording from the 1986 Dylan/Petty tour. It represents about two-thirds of the Dylan portion of the show,... much less of the Petty material. The Dylan songs not on the set are the final six performed: 'I & I', 'Like A Rolling Stone', 'In The Garden', 'Blowin' In The Wind', 'Uranium Rock', & 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door'. Petty shares vocals on the Cecil Null song. On 'Rainy Day Women', Howie Epstien plays slide, and Petty moves to bass guitar. The Heartbreakers are as tight and well oiled as always. Portions of the show were broadcast live via satellite for 'Farm-Aid II' on the VH1 network, as well as simulcast over FM radio. The package photos and graphics are particularly nice, although more venue information could have been added. A very worth-while effort.

Imtrat released a bunch of unauthorised but legal (because of loopholes in the German copyright-law, which left, simply said, foreign live-recordings of foreign artists unprotected) recordings of concerts and radio-shows. The series "Live & Alive" included recordings of such different artists as The Who, Whitney Houston, Ozzy Osborne, David Bowie, Madonna, Elvis Presley and many others. After the Imtrat release of "Phil Collins Live USA" Phil Collins' record company Warner Music filed a lawsuit against them, which finaly ended in a change of copyright laws in Germany and other european countries and the disappearance of Imtrat...

Review: This is as good a quality as live concerts get. As it was mastered directly from a Westwood One CD for broadcast, the quality is utter perfection. The band (Tom Petty's Heartbreakers) are polished to brilliance. Dylan's vocals are up front and right in your face. His delivery is flawless on every song. This show is truly a must-have. The only flaws in this incredible CD is in packaging. To start with, the title 'Dueling' itself is misspelled. The date and venue listed on the back cover and on the CD is wrong. The photo and aesthetics are weak. There have been other releases of this compilation, but for some reason, most have problems with packaging.

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers: Rock Goes to College 1980 (FLAC)

Oxford Polytechnic, Oxford, England. March 24th 1980.
Part of TP's tour to the UK promoting the "Damn The Torpedoes" album.
Great sounding and as good as it gets.




Rock Goes To College was a BBC series that ran between 1978 and 1981 on British television. A variety of up-coming rock oriented bands were showcased live from small venues and broadcast simultaneously on television and radio during a 40-50 minute live performance.

Concert Venues:
The venues were small University, Polytechnic or College halls holding a few thousand persons which gave a more intimate atmosphere than larger venues and often tickets were given to the Students' Union to distribute for free (to ensure that the concert halls were full) - effectively an invited audience. The bands chosen were also bands which did not have a mainstream following at that time although many went on to be very successful.

A BBC DJ would also be present to introduce the band for the television audience.

Innovation:
The original broadcasts were transmitted on television as well as Sight and Sound in Concert; a BBC initiative to provide simultaneous pictures on BBC2 and stereo radio broadcasts on BBC Radio 1 (as stereo television broadcasts and receivers did not exist at the time). It allowed rock enthusiasts to enjoy the event with an improved sound quality.

Bob Dylan & Tom Petty - True Confessions For Carol [2 CD's] (Speed Corrected) FLAC

This set has been previously released as Lonesome Town on the Japanese Watchtower label. However, Rattlesnake has corrected the problems that were evident on that release. The sound is more upfront and dynamic, and the mix (which was at times muddy, with distant vocals on Lonesome Town) is now perfect. To my ears, the tape speed problems are also absent. It's a full step up in quality from an already fine soundboard to an astounding one. It's a great performance, with Dylan rocking and rolling throughout. The vocals are powerful and commanding on every song. He's even quite talkative between numbers! The packaging is superlative (even for Rattlesnake) It's beautifully designed, and full of wonderful photos. The only gripe would be that the source is incorectly attributed to Adeladeon the back cover.
This is a must have disc, and comes very highly recommended.
