Tarantura - TCDEC27

Comments: Not a rarity, but an excellent soundboard from the 1974 US Tour, now from the Tarantura vaults. Wish a video of this was available...
Eric is pissed at this show, apparently after being on a bender most of the day with the Band who along with Todd Rundgren also played sets at the same concert. Track 2 on the CD, called "It's Robbie's Birthday", is a very drunk Clapton "singing" a happy birthday song to Robbie Robertson.
It seems some people had fireworks left over from the July 4th celebrations and brought them to the show. EC really loses it when someone tosses fireworks on stage or in another account gets hit in the head by a frisbee. At 1:38 in "Blues Power" he yells out to the offender "F**k You, you c**t! Whoever Threw That! You're in f***ing bother!". Later on in the song he gets angry again and says "I'll tell you one thing...your f**king aggravation...these fireworks and things like that...NO WAY! It's SILLY BEHAVIOUR!!! STOP IT!!!!!" And During "Little Queenie" ... "and meanwhile...Martin Bormann...oh, never mind...VOTE NAZI!!!".
I got a good laugh out of this show I must admit just listening to a plastered Eric's comments throughout the show.
Concert review by bandaloop
Thanks very much for this show. I was there with my girl and another couple. It was a beautiful hot sunny day at 3 Rivers and the crowd was mostly mellow. We were on the infield and very close to the stage. That is where the drunkin' rowdys were. They pelted Todd R. with garbage, he dodged Pringle cans while he played. The Band came on and played a fantastic incident free show! Clapton and crew were great! However the crowd wanted to hear Derek and the Dominoes and during the whole set yelled things like "play Layla you #$%". Then plain as day a Eric gets hit upside the head with a full can of Coca Cola and goes straight down and hits the stage floor! Wham! He gets up and then he started yelling.
Seconds later a large bald man in a white shirt came on stage and gave the stink eye to the front row. Many people began pointing to someone in the crowd near the stage and this big bald guy jumps to the barrier fence and down into the crowd. The next thing we see him handling some guy by the scruff of the neck and tosses him over the barrier while other guys on the stage snatched him up on stage and off to the stage right. It all happened very quickly. What a scene.
Thanks again.

As a musician I can tell you there is NOTHING FUNNY about getting hit with something while trying to do one's job of entertaining a bunch of dis-respectful a-holes.
Even if it's apparent that Eric is sloppy drunk himself (which is wrong on many levels being a "professional" performer) that is STILL NO WAY for an audience to behave.
Thank you for sharing this Dave. EC and his band are on top of their game here, which is common for them in 1974, having listened to other concerts.
God bless you and all the other QB readers.
