OU: COMPLETE DEMO TRACKS OF "THE WALL" ALBUM Recorded at The Floyd's Britannia Row Studios (Sept-Dec, 1978 & Late 1979) & Super Bear Studio(April-Aug 1979) in France.
This is just like being in the studio with the Floyd! This is the studio demo track they drawn on to record the final mix of their "Wall" album: every track IS a radically different unreleased version to the album's. It includes loads of unedited mixes, never released tracks (merged into other songs), different lyrics, original sound collages etc ...
Without the full lush arrangements you get a good idea of what Roger Waters had in mind when he first conceived The Wall: a dry, alienating & beautiful descent into his tormented mind.
It is a real surprise is to hear the band as the original 4 piece experimenting like in "the good old days" with all sorts of different ideas that didn't make it onto the final mix for most: various synth lines, weird sounds, raw guitars, strange sound collages etc... One can appreciate the massive task of editing and changing most of these songs to fit on the double album we all know.
It is "The Wall" like you have never heard it before: just brilliant!!
Cheers

Amazing, looking very much forward to this. A million thank you's.
you WILL enjoy this one!!
thanks!
Nice. Thank you.
I have 'under construction' Wall demos? Is this the same or better/worse?
Tonight's listening, this looks great. Plate of sushi, Sapporo, and the Wall demos. Thanks Big D!!
Sampling some of it now, jaw properly dropped. Thanks again!
FAR better
@anonymous: It's the same as "under construction", but of superior quality, though "construction" is quite good, too.
Cheers
Thomas
Great...thank you very, very much.
Thanks very much Dave this looks great!!!
WOW, this looks Tasty! Dave is The Man Dave Is The Man! Just when I thought a website couldn't get better... this one did. Your taste, in what to place on this blog, has been impeccable these last few months... right down my power alley, anyway. How about you dig up some Afro-funk via Talking Heads? I know you have some obscure, great quality show from "Remain In Light" tour hanging around in one of your corners? Thanks as always.
Confused here... Is this NOT the same as the often-touted Wall "demos" that are nothing more than the soundtrack to the film The Wall? Can anyone confirm/deny this? I'd guess most of us could recognize Bob Geldof's voice over Roger's, right?
Just for curiosity I downloaded this and have checked in the last hour and a half... and found that actually this sounds WORSE than the "Under Construction" CD.
This "In progress" sounds more muffled and distant, and there is evidently EQ to reduce hiss (and kill a lot of music in the process). "Under Construction" sounds much clearer and brilliant, not to mention that it sounds purer, even though it does have noticeable tape hiss.
The running times of the songs are almost identical compared to "Under Construction" with few seconds missing. In fact this "In progress" is shorter by 5 seconds overall.
This "In Progress" looks like a cheap rip off the Under Construction CD.
Thanks, Dave. I'm not the biggest fan in the world of The Wall (outside of a few songs), but I'll definitely check this out.
I see this is an Ayanami CD. It pretty much explains the differences to the original.
I gave Dave a version called "Building The Wall" that I think sounds pretty good. Perhaps he'll release it soon.
ok we have our opinions but to clarify one comment - this is NOT the film soundtrack.
Sigh, it looks like I should have refreshed my QB window before the Floyd Friday refreshing (& gotten a jump on downloading things :-) ). Ah well, yesterday was chaotic enough.
Thanks Dave, this looks like yet another great one to have near the top of the playlist (the FF selections look pretty good too...)
Have a good weekend
I will post "Under Construction" and "Building the Wall" next week for comaprison.
Your the best!

Fantastic - it's wonderful to hear (maybe I'm being naive here) them playing as a group one last time. Very interesting to hear what changes they made, and also that the sound effects were always part of the structure, not tacked on later.
Thanks very much indeed for this.
Nice post. I'm loving this one.
I loved it. Sorry.
Many thanks!!!
Downloaded and listened to this Friday, a big THANK YOU for a special recording. Very enjoyable listen.
