RoIO: "Damn Braces, Bless Relaxes" - Sirene-060
Venue:Hollywood Bowl
Place:Hollywood, CA, USA
Lineage ->Original Factory Pressed (4) Silver CDS & (1) DVD - Sirene-060
Disc 1 & 2 - Rec. 2, Disc 3 & 4 - Rec. 1
& Bonus NTSC DVD - 8mm Footage presents fragments of the concert filmed from the audience. It is dark, fuzzy and out of sync with the music. None of the songs are presented complete. The people by the camera talk too much at the beginning of the show, making the observation that the stage looks like a spaceship. But given the scarcity of such material it’s good enough and captures some very dramatic images like the dark and smoky stage during “Echoes” and the above mentioned fireworks display. (NOT INCLUDED BECAUSE IT IS CRAP)
Description:Limited Collectors Edition Set of Pink Floyd`s Super Fantastic
Hollywood Bowl Show from `72!
Discs (1) and (2) utilize the second recording(Rec.2). This is a complete, excellent, dynamic tape from the audience. It most recently appeared on Crackers on the Zeus label. The only weakness with the Zeus release is the bass which had a lot of rumble and distortion present. The worst is in “One Of These Days” where the bass overloaded the rest of the music and made the track almost unlistenable. Sirene, by comparison, have tackled this issue by smoothing the bass line and diminishing its volume. “One Of These Days” on this new release doesn’t have the problems on the Zeus and sounds phenomenal. It’s clear and powerful and one of the most effective versions captured on tape.
Discs (3) and (4) contain the first tape(Rec.1), the one that surfaced many years ago and is the source for the famous three LP set Crackers on TARKL(3969). It differs from the first tape source by emphasizing the top end, not having any significant dropouts or cuts, and by not being complete. This taper missed the opening of the show and ”Breathe” was edited from a soundboard from the February 20th Rainbow show. Sirene were able to find a virgin copy of the LP since there really is no evidence of its origin.

Hi DVD--I was wondering if you could recommend some "select" Pink Floyd from the 228 posts you have...maybe a recommended starting point from different time frames? Just a thought. With so many I don't know where to begin. Many thanks for all you do.
Three I could suggest are Animal Instincts, Cruel But Fair, and Time In London. They are the cream of the crop sound quality wise. Enjoy!
Also the unreleased BBC sessions from 1970 and '71. "New Mown Grass" from '71 has great sound for an audience; and as Randy said definitely check out any shows recorded by the legendary taper Mike Millard ("Cruel But Fair", etc.)
'Best Of Tour 72' has amazing sound, but comes from a record so is only about 40 min. or so--let us know if you need more suggestions.
Thanks so much for the suggestions!
Just realized all the suggestions i made were from 1970-1975. oh well, that's my favorite period for the Floyd! (The BBC recorded show from Wembley in 1974 has great sound--obviously--but isn't the best live version of Dark Side..., though the encore version of Echoes with the sax is very cool!)
Is the soundbord tape from fEb 20 avaialble here or elsewhere?
I recently replaced Bowl de Luna with the Platinum Edition. Are my ears playing games with me or is Bowl de Luna slightly better?
I was wondering if it would be possible to have this particular post in FLAC rather than .shn?
Same with End of the Rainbow.
I can easily convert FLAC files to WAV then MP3 but I have no idea how to convert .shn files. What a drag...
Many thanks.
The 2 Hollywood Bowl shows,'Recorders 1 & 2' and 'End of the Rainbow' are in fact FLACs.My bad.I figured seeing shn at the end of the titles meant these were shn files and not FLAC files.I have not yet compared these to Bowl de Luna or the Platinum Edition yet but when I do I'll let you know what I think.
Thanks.
I have had Exploding in Your Mind,Staying Home...and Bowl de Luna.Bowl de Luna being the best.Unfortunately the bass is a little over powering especially on One of These Days. But this boot, you are absolutely right.OOTD is excellent, better than the versions from Meddled and Pompeii.
Great work!
Just found a copy of the whole show on vinyl. It included 3 records. Plays too fast at 33rpm, but still an awesome show.
BACK IN 1982 A GUY LENT ME THE CRACKERS BOX SET.I CAN REMEMBER IT WAS A BLACK BOX AND YOU LIFTED THE LID OF AND INSIDE WAS 3 LPs.they were a lot thicker and heavier than normal lps.and inside the lid was a note about the concert and it told you the track listings and how breathe was tacken from another concert because of technical difficulties with the recording.i taped the lps and wrote down the notes ive still got that tape after all these years.im sure you can hear a guy selling peanuts. poppcorn. hot dogs. just before echoes is played.if my memory serves me correct.i will have to dig it out and give it a listen.it was my first look at a bootleg album.so this concert gives me great memories .thanks
