You are going to my home town--paradise on the west coast.
Just a tip: Stay out of the tourist zones. Get into the neighborhoods: Normal Heights, North Park, Kensington, Barrio Logan, Middletown, LIttle Italy, Mission Hills. And enjoy as much Mexican food as you can while there. Even the cheap places like Roberto's and Alberto's are great.
