OU: Led Zeppelin performed two concerts in Copenhagen, Denmark (the country back in Sept of 68 where they performed their first show together) prior to the Knebworth gigs. The July 24th 1979 show (IMO) is Zep at their peak (outside of the 3/22/73 show in Germany). All members were playing at their best.

Wow... I wonder if Zeppelin only played three or four gigs on the `79 tour. Because that's all I have ever seen in boot form. A couple of fan recordings and a couple of soundboards. Weird.
If you didn't know, that's a good assumption. They played 4 dates that year. An unusually short Tour(compare that to their first years). I've never heard an explanation as to why. Have a look.

That confirms it, then. Wow. I wonder what tragedy befell them on that tour to make them cut it short? The tour before in ‘77 they had to truncate abruptly due to the death of Plant's child, I think.

The grounds of Knebworth House near the village of Knebworth had been a major venue for open air rock and pop concerts since 1974. In 1979, veteran promoter Freddy Bannister booked Led Zeppelin to play that year's concerts, which took place on 4 August[1] and 11 August.[2]
The band had not performed live for two years since the death of Robert Plant's son during the band's 1977 North American tour, and they had not performed in the United Kingdom for four years. Led Zeppelin's manager, Peter Grant, decided that the band should perform at Knebworth instead of embarking on a lengthy tour. As is explained by Dave Lewis:
The whole [Led Zeppelin touring] operation had become too big. Page's experience from the 1971 club tour ruled out any small dates. They had played the biggest indoor arena in the UK (Earls Court 1975) four years earlier. As Peter Grant saw it, they had to come back in the grandest style possible. Knebworth was the answer and after negotiations with promoter Freddie Bannister the August 4 date was scheduled with a second date on hold. The demand for tickets for the first date was enormous, leading to the second date being added.[3]
The band's fee for performing was reportedly the largest ever paid to one single act at that time.[3]
In the lead-up to the concerts, Led Zeppelin undertook extensive rehearsals at Bray Film studios in London, and attended the venue at Knebworth in order to inspect the site, complete a publicity photograph shoot and perform a soundcheck.[3] In addition, they performed two low-key warm-up shows in late July at the Falkoner Theatre, Copenhagen, Denmark.[4]
Thanks for that..... And they thought they were in high demand then... Even they couldn't foresee what would come with the 2007 reunion show. 20 million people applying for 9 thousand seats!
