OU: The final result is far from perfect, but still quite good considering its age (and the low quality of the original cheap cassette tape!).
Parental Advisory - Explicit Language: This show is a completely uncensored record of a classic Dave Van Ronk performance. It is politically incorrect and contains the "F word". That is part of its inestimable charm.
I have tracked Dave's talking mostly separately. He covers a fascinating range of topics: from the merits of Randy Newman's "Short People" to the musical preferences of amorous 14-year olds to Robert Graves' "I Claudius" to Jelly Roll Morton (to name just a few).

I love Dave Van Ronk's music, and it's so cool to have a bit of this on Bob's birthday... after all, Bob "borrowed" Van Ronk's arrangement of "House Of The Rising Sun" and made it his own, wayyyy back when....

'caused quite a rift when that happened too.
It's true, he also 'borrowed' 'baby Let Me Follow You Down' (credited on the recording) and countless traditional folk nelodies and phrases for others. All great writers are basically plagiarists - Woody, Van, Tom Waits etc etc
Joni is very critical of Bob for this kind of thing, personally I don't see the problem as great writers/artists channel and focus ideas IMO. Then again Joni is entitled to her opinion as her music is truly original (even down to the custom tunings) in almost every case.
Incidentally The Animals 'borrowed' Bob's then unreleased electric arrangement from 'Freewheelin' BD' and did a pretty good job of it too.

This is an incredible program! This first time that Van Ronk impressed me as he'd impressed others. I have to admit, though, that picture really blew my mind. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why Suze and Bob were at Bryn Maw in 1978! Thanks for this!!

Is there any chance for some Phil Ochs recordings, such as the bootleg"Phil Ochs at Dorweiler" which contains his performances at the Waldeck Festival in Germany -but any others would also be very much appreciated.
