Avid fans who were around in the 1990's probably remember the Total Eclipse boxed set, a 4CD set of rare and unreleased recordings. (Heck, some of you were probably involved in making it.) It was released basically as a reaction to the Shine On boxed set which added virtually no value to most fans. However, over 15 years later a lot has changed. Many of the recordings in the original set have been released officially and new sources have emerged across the board. However, it is clear that there is a large amount of material out there that complements the albums but will probably never be released by the band. Therefore I think it is time for a new fan set that captures the intent of the original Total Eclipse boxed set and improves on it. This set would not be possible without the effort of the innumerable people over the years who have recorded and preserved this music.
Like many fans, I am enthusiastic about the announcement of the series of boxed sets that will include significant amounts of previously unavailable material. In an attempt to avoid overlap with future releases, I have avoided sources that I consider too good NOT to release by themselves. These include:
* BBC sessions from 1968-1974
* September 09, 1969 (Concertgebouw)
* November 21, 1970 (Montreaux)
* March 14, 1973 (Boston)
* June 18, 1975 (Boston)
* May 9, 1977 (Oakland)
In addition, I have decided not to include anything after 1979 because these are already captured very well by existing releases.
I am optimistic that future releases will continue to make the highest quality recordings available officially. However, as exciting as these upcoming releases are, I do not feel that they will tell the whole story. While compiling this set, the original intention was to stick with 4CDs as with the original. However, after reviewing dozens of sources, I felt that this was not enough space to tell the entire story in a satisfactory way and so I have expanded to 6 CDs. Each is designed to tell a different part of the story as follows:
CD 4 - Something To Do With A Dream (audience recordings from 1970 to 1971)
CD 5 - Childhood's End (audience recordings from 1971 to 1972)
CD 6 - I Fell On His Neck With A Scream (audience recordings from 1973 to 1977)
Beta Notes: Because of the scope of this project I want to take the time to get this right. Someone else is going to have to take on the artwork and final mastering. In addition, getting detailed liner notes together will take some effort. Therefore I am releasing this torrent as a "Beta" version of Disc 1. Other discs will be torrented over the next couple of weeks as time permits. Once feedback starts rolling in, we can talk about what needs to be done to get this project to the finish line.

The basic lineage for each file is:
Yeeshkul -> SHN/FLAC -> TLH -> Wav -> Sony Sound Forge 7.0* -> Wav -> TLH -> FLAC 8
*Sound Forge was used as needed to trim each file to remove extraneous applause, tuning, etc. and to add smooth fades in and out.

Thanks Dave. I'm sure I've already got much of this (or things very similar), but it will make great fodder for assorted nephews who've suddenly started looking for 'old' music. Apparently retro is in where they are & who knows more about 'old' music than good old Uncle IB.....yeah, thanks kid. Excuse me while I go give your dad a wedgie as I'm sure it was him who told you to put it in those terms... Ah, brotherly love.
Oh well, at least it gives me something to do with the pile of hard drives that have gotten too small for keeping the audio & video archives organized (perhaps I am 'old', I remember when a 40MB hard drive was an insane amount of space that would never be filled up....er, yeah).
Have a great weekend everyone. For those of us in the US make sure though, mixed in somewhere with the grilling & drinking that you pause for a moment to remember just why we're getting a day off. In a couple of hours we're going to join up with the local Boy Scout Troop to go put flags on the veteran's graves in the town cemetery (it's always a somber history lesson for them as there are several who's ages & dates match up with WWI, D-Day, Iwo, Chosin, Tet, GW2) & then on Monday the town's parade (complete with speeches from local politicians who like to hear themselves talk - it's cheesy but it is a nice slice of life in small town America).
Intriguing project.
So Dave, is this the final draft with the original notes included, or is this still the "beta" version that needs additional artwork and remastering? While I love live music, I do not consider myself enough of an expert to offer anything of interest on the production side.

Ah man, they're leaving off my single favorite track from the original "Total Eclipse" -- the united version of "Pigs on the Wing", taken from the "Animals" 8-Track. (Unless that was officially released somewhere, and I'm just a moron for not knowing that.)
Still, I am *extremely* happy to see this. Even though most of what's on my copy of "Total Eclipse" has been, er, eclipsed by stuff uncovered in the ensuing fifteen years, I really treasure those discs. Thanks so much for posting!

Hey, I'm not referring to this particular post, so I don't know if it applies here, but it has a lot in the past, so...
Nonetheless...after a seriously *confusing* attempt to download via multiple links on a multi-disc set…
You might want to try to keep us brain damaged musician types from crackin up, see….
Part 1 of disc 2 is link 4 even though part 5 of disc 2 is disc 5 , its not consistent so part 3 of disc 2 is link 2 but part 2 of disc 2 is link 3, except if your using MU in which case it goes from 5-1 instead of 1-5 so link 1 is part 5 , except if you use the individual links , in which case it goes from 5 - 1 except if your using RS in which case part 5 is link 1...

See, I think part 1 should ALWAYS correlate to link 1 regardless of the file hoster, regardless if it's individual links or a 'lix in ' multi-link page

Since the full version of Pigs On The Wing is available on a Snowy White compilation, I was asked to leave it off. In fact, in the unlikely event that I ever get around to finishing this project, I will also have to remove the two demo tracks because of their release in the Immersion boxes.
