OU Notes: JEMS is proud to be able to partner with and present some of the choice recordings in the D & D archives. Some of these recordings have been around for years but none of the master tapes or safety copies in some cases have ever been digitized until now. Dave and Donn taped many shows in and around the Seattle area in the 70's and also were contemporaries of some of the JEMS members. Volume 5 consists of a mix of both Dave's and Donn's recordings of opening night show of 74 tour for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young at the Seattle Center Coliseum. This is one of legendary shows where they went all out and played basically everything they rehearsed for the tour, 40 songs in almost 4 hours is a lot of music. This was the only show they did this on this tour. The setlists and playing time got considerably shorter after this show. This show features a lot of songs for an aborted album called Human Highway is probably the only source for some of these songs aS done by all 4 like Human Highway though a lot of those songs would later turn up on various solo efforts. Donn and Dave sat next to each other at this and both recorded using seperate TC-126 tape decks. Neither of them had enough tapes to record the whole show so they towards the end of the show one would shut down while the other recorded and vice versa to try to capture the show in full. Both sources combined are still incomplete so the JEMS master recording was used to fill in any missing holes to make the show 100% complete music wise. Both recordings are excellent sounding as good if not better than the JEMS master recording and both sources to the best of our knowledge have never been circulated prior to (Sept 2010). These recordings are in their raw state with no mastering done to them except for speed corrections.

Great share Dave, thanks very much. One of my favourite concerts from the 70's by any band (let alone CSNY). I would put this on a par with the JEMS master of the same show.

I saw them about a month later than this at Roosevelt Stadium in New Jersey on a very historic night -- the night Richard Nixon resigned the presidency. Graham Nash announced it from the stage and the crowd roared.
WOW, Gummo... I was there too. Remember the crowd wouldn't shut-up so CSNY refused to play acoustic?

bootleg43 -- Yes!
I think they got thru 2 acoustic songs before they gave up. It was 'cause the crowding up front was crushing people and people were yelling at each other.
There's a poor quality bootleg of that show recorded from the audience -- it's a tough listen but the only souvenir that exists of that night.
Finally got a chance to start listening to this show.

This is great - thanks for posting this, man! This is the way 'Revolution Blues' needed to be recorded by Neil, not that clunker on "On the Beach"!
Hmmm... "clunker"? I'll be nicer than usual and say only that I heartily disagree.
Although I am grateful for this offering and always appreciate the efforts that you do here, I don't think the sound quality is quite up to par. I would give it a good at most. Perhaps I was spoiled by the Halverson recordings?
