OU: I am opening the Pink Floyd vaults this time, and found a strange one. This is a 1986 re-broadcast of the John Peel session recorded back at the end of 1967. The intro is from the man himself and the story is quite amusing: actually the BBC has
lost the master of the original session and everything they can broadcast is a copy from a guy who actually taped the show! Hence the sound quality which is not pristine. John Peel even mentions that what they were doing (by broadcasting a
copy taped off the radio) was illegal, but that it was the only way to hear those sessions! Also, John Peel wrongly dates these sessions on august 1968, since he does not seem to have precise details available.
The music and the session is very well known, but probably without the funny comments from John. RIP John Peel!

Don't know if this will be any help, but the DJ talking is Johnny Walker, another famous voice of Radio 1 in the days when Radio 1 was king! The session might have been a Peel one, but the DJ talking is Johnny Walker! I know being a bit of a train spotter, but for the details, i thought i'd let you know! Great site & best wishes! :-)
This particular session was also broadcast shortly after John Peel's death on BBC digital. Amazing quality. It turns out that this session was a portion of John Peel's very first show on the BBC - which is why it was rebroadcast. The rebroadcast contained all of Mr. Peel's original comments as well as the rest of the original 60 min show. (ie: all of the non-Floyd material)
The DJ talking is Tommy Vance, not John Peel and not Johnny Walker.
Peel, Vance or Walker - all good dj's - but it's the Floyd that's cool. Thanks for the share, mate!
Yes, this is absolutely definitely Tommy Vance on the Friday Rock Show. I recorded this broadcast myself at the time and it remains among my all-time favourite selections of music.
Of course Tommy Vance ... sorry for my Johnny Walker observation ... yep, glad we finally got that sorted well done Emperor Roskoe for that! :-)
I think the tape may be running a little fast, judging by the sound of Tommy Vance's voice.
