COMMENTS: EQ to music is like plastic surgery to people.
If you try to keep the procedure simple, it looks good. BUT if you do too much, it will look like Michael Jackson.
So true as it petains to this recording. This was my 4th attempt trying to get this to you. I tried to "keep it simple", but the recording needed some work.
I assume that Kylie's seats were high up and away from the stack. This recording had quite a bit of crowd in between the band and his microphone. Also the master recording sounds like it was "tunnelled" due to his position.
The recording started out a little hot and some slight high end distortion. I tried to shave it slightly but also to bring in the lows (bass). The bass is incredible live. I felt the rumbling as I listened to it on my iPod. Therefore, I needed to bring out more David Gilmour's voice and more bass/keyboards. Thus I used snare chunk to keep percussion as crisp as possible.
I understand that EQ is in the ear of the holder. However, this is a good concert to let go to waste. The beginning of the show is okay in quality. As the crowd settles and the instrumentals keep them down, quiet, and seated, the recording becomes very good. I think the end of the show (last hour) is very very good. There is some minimal intial cassette fluxuation of sound secondary to usage over the years.
So without further delay, may I present to you Pink Floyd.......
