On July 29 1966, Dylan suffered a mild concussion and cracked vertebrae when he crashed his Triumph motorcycle near Woodstock, New York. While he was recovering, Dylan reviewed a preliminary cut of D. A. Pennebaker's documentary of the 1966 world tour. Dissatisfied with Pennebaker's results, Dylan re-edited the footage into a surrealistic film, titled Eat the Document. Dylan spent this time thinking a lot about the direction he had been going, in which he felt exhausted from non-stop touring. Dylan later recalled, "The turning point was back in Woodstock. A little after the accident. Sitting around one night under a full moon, I looked out into the bleak woods and I said, 'Something's gotta change.'"
According to the late Rick Danko, he, Richard Manuel and Garth Hudson joined Robbie Robertson in West Saugerties in February 1967. Sometime between March and June (the date is uncertain) Dylan and the Hawks began a series of informal recording sessions. These sessions eventually moved to the basement of Big Pink. Garth Hudson set up a recording unit, using two stereo mixers and a tape recorder borrowed from Grossman, as well as a set of microphones from Peter, Paul and Mary. Dylan would later say "That's really the way to do a recording-in a peaceful, relaxed setting-in somebody's basement with the windows open ... and a dog lying on the floor."
In a matter of months, Dylan would record at least thirty new compositions with the Hawks, including some of the most celebrated songs of his career: "I Shall Be Released," "This Wheel's On Fire," "Quinn the Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn)," "Million Dollar Bash," "Tears of Rage," "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere," "Going To Acapulco," "I'm Not There (1956)," "All You Have To Do Is Dream," "Apple Suckling Tree" and others. Eventually, rumors of Dylan and The Band's enormous stash of unreleased recordings began to circulate.

open cue sheet with burrrn application (track list appears magically).

sorry but i would say beware of downloading this version. its "just" the first 'complete' one.
it was outdated in 2001
when a fanproject collected these:

& there are at least 2 more single disks out there with even better versions of some of the songs.
you can perhaps find them on one of the trackers.
if you actually read the page you posted, youd see in the review it says that A Tree with Roots and The Genuine Basement Tapes are of the same quality, only difference is the track order and packaging.
where do you get this "fanproject" thing from? The only "fanproject" I've seen is remasters of only the songs officially released on The Basement Tapes, which arent any good anymore due to the 2009 official remastered release of The Basement Tapes

Dave is giving us the Scorpio Records Set from 1990, i got these first a long time ago and the quality in terms of sound is not as good as it is possible, the songs are not in the right order and this and that ...
The fanproject you've got from the fan-network and 've looked at dime the id=164700 and on zomb you get it with id=25705.
the best dylan show gacker, gacker. 1994, seen him not pretending to be anything just making goooog music.
a special mention must go to the Dylan Carnegie show posted recently.
Dylan with Petty outstanding sound quality.

David, thanks again for all the recent Dylan posts. Does anybody know how to burn .cue files on a Mac? Toast doesn't appear to recognise files with this extension. Thanks again.

Once in a while you run across CD images in the format of a .bin file and .cue file. These are CDRWin images which can’t (as far as I know) be easily read on the Mac. A little shortcut I found is to open the .cue file with Toast as if you were going to burn it, which Toast can do , but choose File -> Save As Disc Image instead. Toast will prompt you for the location to save the disc image, then dump the file there. Drop the resulting .toast file into Toast’s Disc Image section and hit Mount, and the data from the disc image (and thus the original .bin/.cue image) will be mounted on your Mac without burning them to a CD or DVD first. It’s a bit of a long way around, but it works, and might save you a CD-R.

Drag the Cue sheet into XLD and it will break the file into individual tracks.

The 5.16.76 soundboard (Hold the Fort for what it's Worth) is a great RTRII show, a nice companion piece to the Friends and Other Strangers boot that was recently posted here. Any chance that one could also be posted?
Michael92105... I had to chuckle when you asked me for the best Dylan show... I appreciate the compliment but am by no means an expert on live Dylan... I prefer the studio stuff of Dylan's.
I'm sure I'm the only idiot who doesn't get it but, do you mean download Burrrn 1.14 beta or do you mean download the AVS Audio Converter they advertise when one first clicks on Burrrn?
Well, Burrrn gave me 1 track of 53 minutes and some odd seconds when I tried to use it on Dylan in NY, so, since I am a fairly intelligent guy, it isn't as easy as advertised. Can anyone get specific regarding settings etc? Pretty please... cherry on top?
To separate tracks, I use Roxio Creator (http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/creator/suite/overview.html?gclid=CMjzluuw4Z4CFQk75QodqncHIQ).
It does cost $79.99, but I find it to be a great tool that's easy to use for this.
It lets you simply listen to the track and put a line between tracks wherever you think one song ends and the next begins. Or, with a release like this that has gaps between songs, I think there's an automatic function in there where it'll automatically mark each track. Then you just say "export tracks" and it saves them as individual FLAC files like you're used to.
Best live Dylan? That is a very large and very subjective question. (And a great one!)
I love all his phases, but find special fire in his '79-'81 "born again" performances. There's one on this site. Also on this site, I like the Bridge School performance and the Tel Aviv performance a lot.

why does disc one say there are 20 songs on the scans but when I downloaded it theres 21 tracks? "song for canada" is the extra track not listed.
I'm sure burrrn is fine too, but I have always liked Medieval Cue Splitter - I think it's free.
It splits the tracks, does tagging, etc without having to burn it to cd first.

Ahhh just burn the cue file... now it all becomes clearer! It probably says that in the original directions... oh well, live and learn, recognize my own limitations (as Dirty Harry suggests) and move on down the highway tapping toes as I go.

11 CD Dylan & The Hawks/Band bootleg set from 2001. It was originally a 10 disc set. Disc 11 was added later by someone else for some reason. There's a lot of repetition of tracks.

I guess bobsboots is supposed to be definitive, but my ears are fairly certain that A Tree With Roots is, at least in some cases, a sonic improvement over the GBT series. Perhaps the difference is just in the CD mastering, not the generation or quality of the source material (though in a couple instances I think it's the latter, too). My two cents.
Actually, Bobsboots does not say "Tree With Roots" is of the same quality. It says the White Bear bootleg, which is called "A Tree With Roots", is of the same quality.
This one's called "The Genuine Basement Tapes" and it is of lesser quality. At least, to my ears it is.
But it's always worth drawing attention to this material, there are still some gems left. Why Dylan/Band don't release "Sign on the cross" is beyond me.
