Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.
He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.
Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.
Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.

Unbelievable! A new Rush show. It doesn't appear to have been listed on the Digital Rush Experience site. Thank You.
Wow I think this is the only 'Rush' show that I attended that has a recording out there. One thing of note (if this is the show I went to)I remember the power went out at the very end of 'Xanadu', it took a few minutes to fix and the boys just ripped into those final chords of the song again to finish out the song....Great R&R moment! Cant wait to download and hear it again!
I'm not really a Rush fan at all--but this is a GREAT aud. recording from the band in their prime! Thanks to Dan The Taper and Dave The Rave for his great blog!

Wow, you sure know how to start the weekend off for me. Rush in their prime & a promise of Tull, Stewart, Yes, etc Lampinski recordings in the fairly near future.
My kids are wondering why I have such a big smile at the moment. You'll probably hear their cries of anguish soon when I turn off the tv & put the Rush show on the stereo (not because of Rush, they like them for the most part but because the idiot box went dim).

After listening to this concert a little more i think what makes it such a great recording is that it's in a relatively small hall with excellent acoustics; Dan had quality orchestra seats for taping; and this is before Moving Pictures came out with big FM radio songs like Tom Sawyer, etc. so Rush was still very much a 'cult band' in their 'prog' period so there are no drunken idiots or rowdy kids screaming & setting off fire crackers throughout the show. You can get the feeling that the audience was there to really listen and be respectful to the music--i bet a lot of undercover "smoking" was going on!--the mix between the guitar, bass and drums is pretty much ideal, imo. Big thanks again to Dan the taper, Carl the masterer and Dave for posting it so people without a Dime account can enjoy these great historical documents--of course!!! (Rock On!)
