I'm not a fan of "remasters" - not official, nor unofficial - 9 out of 10 always let one down; compared to the original release. The recent Universal Music release of "Goats Head Soup" lacks everything - they tried to "do something", but whatever it was.....they didn't have a clue on where to go. It sounds awful.
To me, there's only 2 "versions" of Goats Head Soup that is worth listening to. It's the official, original release - which is very muddy, dark and unclear. But it's also this Mickboy remix - which turned it into a very different listening....it's suddenly rocking and cooking in a different way compared to the original album. Mickboy also included outtakes and alternates for Dancing So Free. When it comes to "Mickboy"...I'm not a "fan" nor an "enemy"..."he" has some poor products, some unecessary, and some real fine ones. I find "Dancing So Free" to be among those very fine/interesting ones.....at least as a change to the "original mood" of GHS.
All this being said.....I think Univeral Music did a great job on other of those RS albums....IORR and B&B have never sounded better before, on CD, that is. (Still haven't recieved the rest of the CDs)
This sounds VERY different from the official product (unlike for instance the Mickboy "Let It Bleed" which was available here last year....it sounded like the official album with the bass & treble boosted)

Thanks for the Taylor-era Stones. Can this be verified as lossless. I ran the tracks through Traders Little Helper which suggests lossy. I'm not an expert.
Curious, how many of these MickeyBoy Remasters are there? I have Let it Bleed and Led Zeppelin's IV from the MickeyBoy series, but would love to find a complete listing if it's available....

The Virgin remasters are from 1994. They were only released in the UK at first. When they released them in the States, as the "USA Collection", they were the very same 1994 remasters. These '94 Virgin remasters are the best versions out there, in my opinion.
I checked out this Mickboy version and personally don’t think too much of it. But I do agree that the new 2009 Universal remasters are among the very worst I have ever heard.
Thanks for the post Dave! It is a real treat to be able to hear different takes on how these albums should sound.
I believe all Mickboy releases are lossy. I've read several discussions on the subject, but I can't remember why this is.
That said, I think his work is fantastic. Sticky Fingers is my favorite, but I think his work on Goat's Head is great too.
