OU: This is Spock's Beard when they were an absolutely stunning band, before Neal Morse decided to quit. This was probably the peak period for the band. I saw them opening for Dream Theater twice the yaer after in Torino and Firenze and they were hot!
Although very reminescent of the old acts such as Genesis or Gentle Giant, they managed to create a high quality progressive rock, probably unparalleled by most of the bands that were up in the 90's. I liked a lot Neal Morse's poliedricity, whatever
he was singing, playing keyboards or acoustic guitar. And he did not look like those long-haired freaks of the 70's! All the band was highly capable! This show sees the presence of Mike Portnoy as special guest. Mike is a long-time fan of the band and actually I first heard of Spock's Beard while interviewing Mike back in 1996. At the end of the interview he mentioned me that if I wanted to hear some really cool prog rock I should check Spock's Beard out. He plays some great drumming in the show. This one comes from a Minidisc master copied to tape, sound quality I would say it is 8/10.
Nevertheless a great show from the Spocks. Enjoy it! ldb

I remember on VH-1 years ago they had a show with 4 panelisist debating different music issues like best song duo or best TV song etc. Then they would narrow the list they made down to one to finish the show. They once did the most overated song. Numerous rock songs were nominated. The winning song was "Happy Birhday". I had to agree. I hope you don't. Happy Birhday Dave.
