OU Notes: These discs came to me in trade, nine years ago. The source is a fourth-gen cassette dub, one of which was high-speed. The owner of this dub took his tapes to someone who didn't quite have a good grasp on FFT noise reduction. It sounds like with these tapes, they needed some hiss reduction, but this was early days for FFT NR, and there's a tad too much on here. That does not detract from the enjoyability factor of the music.
Browne had a great touring band, and this soundboard tape shows them rehearsing for the upcoming tour. Several songs have multiple rehearsals. There is some levity. There isn't much bass. I suspect that this audio feed came from what they were sending to the stage monitors. So it had very little bass content, so the result wouldn't be mud.
I see one reference to this set on the web. That would have to have been either the guy I got this from, or someone else he traded it to. I've never traded it to anyone, and I don't believe I've ever posted this on Usenet. I've just been kinda sitting on it. Now it's time to share. Hardly anyone has heard it!
Before conversion to FLAC, I ran each of the tracks through Audition 3 for phase correction, which fixed a great deal that was wrong with these recordings. Since I don't think we'll ever get access to the tape again, we'll have to make do with this version. It's the only one!
