Listening to those 1980 "White Summer" performances makes you want to cry and not in a good way.
Page at his absolute drug-soaked nadir. Clumsy, halting, playing out of time and hitting clams all over the place. His fastball was gone.
1980 was probably the worst year to hear Zeppelin live.
Saw them every tour here in L.A. starting with that "Blueberry Hill" show and each year they were a little less than the tour before. Of course they never made it over here in 1980 ... had Bonham lived, who knows what would have happened.
That 2007 reunion shows Page back in the game.
Oh I envy you, fellow poster. Led Zeppelin was my first love, even before the Grateful Dead. They were the band that started my obsession with music - especially live music. I did see Robert Plant on his solo tour but that's as close as I ever got to seeing Zeppelin. Of course, Garcia had similiar issues during the late '70s and '80s though I would accuse him of hitting oysters 'cause every so often we would find a pearl or two :)
Hope y'all like that oyster thingy - I thought of that one myself. At any rate, can't wait to hear this although I will do so with a critical ear. Appreciate the comments anon.... I enjoy the dialogue in the comments area!
