I have recently acquired the Pink Floyd Immersion Box Set and I have to tell you that I think that a Floyd fan will really enjoy this.
I am not a reviewer or a critic and I don't normally "endorse" products but all of you know what a Floyd fan that I am.
Disc 1 - CD Album digitally remastered by James Guthrie (do we need yet another remaster? With the MFSL, the 40th Anniversary, ... I don't think so but others may
appreciate it.
Disc 2 - CD The November 1974 Wembley concert recording by the BBC of The Dark Side Of the Moon. The famous BBC 11-16-1974 concert is included (without "Echoes") so I will have to locate and begin removing the unofficial releases that have already been posted here presently (hint, hint).

My favorite aspect of this release is this early alternate mix of the album. Though the similarities to the final product abound there are enough differences to make it seem as though you are listening to it "again like the first time".

OK, but is it worth the price ? The sound I mean, because it seems that I alr, hum, you could already have all of this here or there…
And I would have preferred the Boblingen concert, in fact.
With Echoes (or Looking Through the Knotholes in Granny's Wooden Leg) and witout the awful sax in the middle…
Of course, it is obvious that the boxes & goodies could worth it… Do they ? I remember the shine on packaging was not so… valuable.
It is a great set. Honestly, aside from the album itself, the live disc is the best part. But the extra disc of outtakes and pieces is fun too. And pretty exhaustive. The only (small) gripe I have is that they could have included, along with the 1972 mix, some of the later material, from the Pink Floyd movie, with Dave shredding on top of Brain Damage. Oh, I also ould have preferred if they labeled the Us & Them demo as the Violent Sequence, since it is the Zabriskie recording, not a demo at all, since Us & Them was not written yet.
I do enjoy the box, and the goodies, but seeing as all the bonus tracks will be on the 2CD, I will be opting for the smaller version of WYWH. Of course, for the Wall, I'll go for the 7 disc set. Lucky me never bought the Wall or the Wall live before, so it's not a "re-buy"!
And why not include the whole Brighton concert instead of 4 songs that don't even seem complete? And why not one of the earlier '72 gigs instead. The sound is wonderful on Bluray in 5.1. So many subtleties that weren't there before or were hidden. Even the original album was 3rd generation (!!!) says DG in the documentary and there they've gone back to the original tapes.
And a story on the Household objects project would have been interesting. Would have liked a hard back book better. Have you seen Steven Wilson's? Came out at the same time! That's how you do special editions. Can't wait for Aqualung - same price as The Immersion sets, though!
But the sound - even the 1974 concert is amazing. (I've got my wife climbing up the walls!!!)
Got it earlier this week (the immersion set) and it's really nice. Great quality audio, tons of different versions of the album and marbles. Who can resist the allure of a nice marble?;-)

It is a great value. I got mine from Amazon. Amazed about how much whining there is in the collector community. This is a well compiled set at a good price. No one is forcing anyone to buy it. If you don't like it, don't buy it.
Can Dave and the above commenters please discuss whether any of the bottom 4 discs came loose and if they did were they scratched? I still have not committed to buying this yet since I want mint condition cd's upon opening it.

I'm awaiting mine in the mail. I have to say it is quite nice to see some talk of this on this site, considering how much Floyd there is here. Perhaps we may see more discussion here at QB of this material, which was once obscure or hidden now given the chance to breathe in the light, and how it all compares with each other. Dave and others, did it surpass your expectations? What should the compilers have done different?

Got mine and two of the discs were dis-lodged but were not loose and did not have any damage. I purchased from Amazon and the box itself was sealed in a custom cardboard box inside of the usual Amazon cardboard and shrink within a box package. The marbles in the box are each wrapped in bubble wrap and there is an "egg carton" foam on top of the whole package to keep everything in place during shipping.Overall I would say that this was well packaged and as I have stated in an earlier post,a good deal. If you have any issues with scratched discs, Amazon or the disc supplier will make amends I'm sure. No whining needed here folks.
I got it a couple days ago. Two of the bottom discs were dislodged and one had a slight scratch on it. However, it played fine and I ripped it with no problems. Overall, I'm pleased with the product (aside from the two loose discs). As someone who never got to see Floyd during the tours for 'Dark Side' I really enjoyed be able to see the concert films. An entire 'Dark Side' show on DVD or Blu-Ray would have been fantastic.
Being a huge Floyd fan I have purchased the 16 disc remaster box-leaving it sealed and the DSOTM immersion set- haven't received this one yet but should today and am opening and playing this one. I'm waiting on the WYWH and Wall immersion but will purchase and play as well. Altough I have a lot of this material in various sources- Dave(wink)- + original roio's it's great to get them from the direct source and the floyd do such an awesome job w their sound and packaging ect. I already have the Shine on box, all Capitol remasters and By the Way box- box still sealed- others opened and played.
How about the pig flying for the new releases pretty cool? I missed Floyd Friday on QB however had my own as when I got home from work I had the Discovery box + 2 new Japan minis KB Hallen 9/23/71 and PNE Coliseum 4/8/75. The Jap minis are beautiful digipacs and behold- Floyd friday!! I looked at my pay pal account and saw that I've spent over $700.00 in the last 2 months just on the Floyd. To each their own- I'm buying primarily for pleasure and some for investment- floyd cd's doing better than the stock market so why not? I am a collector at heart and cannot get enough of the Floyd!

I think when you spend this sort of money, you can probably "whine" about certain aspects,especially when there are omissions in the collection. Doesn't mean that we don't like/love the object (especially the sound!! Did I mention the sound!)
I was all geared up to get the DSOTM and Wish You Were Here sets, and then realized the goods don't justify the price. I largely have what is offered (including DTS mixes of the albums that play in my car, and of course the live stuff from bootlegs). DSOTM is my all-time favorite album...but I just can't justify it.
Had a long day away from home, just arrived to find my box set and opened it- Fuck!!! Yes I had 3 cd's dislodged from the holders and one looks really bad- am not even going to try to play tonight cause I'm puttin on a great buzz and don't want to be more upset.I hope I'm as lucky as the rest of you -WTF? The holders are high quality and hold disc firmly?? I may really be fucked cause I bought mine off ebay w no returns accepted, the Discovery box- remains sealed I purchased from Amazon directly however the guy I got the immersion from came sealed from Amazon as well. Is it bad to expect at least secure non scratched fairly expensive cds? I want to return regardless due to the scratches but will give them a try tomorrow. Barry

Thanks for the heads up about the early mix on disc 6. Hadn't even noticed it among all the stuff I DO NOT need (like a DVD & Blue Ray with the same conent!). As you say, the differences are subtle but they are there and it is a very interesting listen for those of us who've listened to DSOM countless times. Thanks for all he hard work man.

Upon futher investigation I discovered that all the 4 discs that are on bottom, even the 1 that was still secure have minor- major scuff marks,ect. the 2 in the cardboard are perfect. Now I'm pleased to report that I'm lucky so far- played the worst(as far as the marks) this am and played beautifully! In looking at all the extra's they alone make it almost worth the $ in my opinion and since the discs play I have no gripe. I guess they were manufactered this way and am so greatful they play.
Although I stirve for mint perfection on anything I purchase, esp new, I am very pleased that I bought this for my personal collection. And as previously stated "The Sound"-incredible! Bsrry
The discs in my Immersion set from Amazon were all firmly in their proper places. They were actually in so tight, I was concerned about damaging them taking them out! The live Wembley version is definitely excellent, but which date is it from? I think it sounds significantly different from the Harvested BBC Archives 11/16/74 version.
I think The Wall box is the most lackluster. The demos bootleg deserves a single listen so eh. The live is already released so now we're 6 discs in. So no 24 bit Blur ray like the others? Whaaah? Oh and I finally have come to terms with the fact that no live footage will ever be released in my lifetime (39). I don't care about new Thorgerson art nor marbles. And no Animals boxset. But I'm not entirely cranky. I am looking forward to Wish You Were Here the most.
Picked one up today at the Mall and gave the box a shake to be sure there was not too much rattling inside.
Two discs were loose but no scratches just a fingerprint on one of them.
I'm happy with this set even though I don't have a Blue Ray player. It's about time they did more than just release the same old stuff in a different box, AGAIN!
Can anyone who bought the sets comment on whether or not the audio quality is an improvement over what is available for dow nloading?

The sound mix on the Live at Wembly Stadium disc is different on this official release than it is on the Harvested Release. I don't think you need to take the links down, I know I won't be from my site... unless they ask me to of course. :-) I only have the Experience Edition, I would love to hear what the Alan Parsons mix sounds like. Any comments on that? I'd love to hear your opinion Dave...
The Wembley 74 Disc it's NOT the same show 16/11/1974 just completely remixed..
It's a mix of nights 15 and 16, that's why it sounds different!
