Van Morrriss' Son: Glastonbury Festival 1987 (Ex- Aud/FM?) FLAC

once gone this will not be reupped.
stonbury 21.06.1987 - F
Glastonbury Festival June 21st 1987 "Complete Recording" Upgrade

Due to it now being direct from the Master Cassette and with a bit more information on the source of the recording.

Excellent Recording, Mixing Desk or Audience, you decide!
OU NOTE: Because of the interest in my original upload of this show and the questions regarding the source I decided to contact 'GS' who originally sent me the copy of his tape. I ask where he got it and he said it was "ACQUIRED" from a contact, working at Glastonbury, about two hours after Morrison came off stage, he asked no questions. As to why he marked it FM he said that the tape was not in a case and was unmarked and later when he got round to listing it he had only listened to a track or so and it seemed to be FM though he now agrees it could be Mixing Desk
or Excellent audience. Anyhow he very kindly agreed to loan me the Master and that tranfer is what you have now.
Personally I don't care what the source is, it's just nice to have a complete, from one source, recording of a great show. There is some very slight sound drift on the tape which I believe is due to it not having been played (he used his back-up copy to listen to) or fully re-wound for many years.
This transfer is a big improvement over the previous, analogue tape copies tended to lose quite a bit of detail even on top quality decks, and anyone with a SERIOUS interest in VM.. I think will be well pleased.

Thank you so much, I've been checking in every day just in case and now (as the notes suggest) I am well pleased, and very grateful too.
For the benefit of anybody else - just get it, ask questions later!!

This is definitely one of the 6 or 7 absolutely essential/must have 'later period' Van boots. the others are (IMHO)
Essen '82 - Rockpalast
Werchter '83 (FM)- 3 JULY (40 mins only)
Montreux '84 (FM)
Glastonbury '91 (FM) (6 trax)
Berkeley '86 (FM) - 25 july
Point Dublin '95 (FM) 'Dublin to Sandy Row'
Rockpalast 98 - Emerald Dreams

Big thanks for plugging an important gap, i'm gonna be listening to this all day!

I took the photo being used for this boot. It was taken in the Ulster Hall in Belfast during the No Teacher Tour. Van was in superb form that night, the concert being amongst the best I have been to. I bet it has been scanned in from the book Too Late To Stop Now by Steve Turner. Amazing! I am not a professional photographer and it is a bit of a buzz seeing this photo appearing here.

Blimey in my excirement i forgot to list the wonderful Montreux '90 boot TSP put out - another true essential for any unofficial Van collection

For ref there is another version of this i collected as mp3 a while back, sourced (claimed anyway) from Westwood one Transcription discs and a DAT master of the BBC broadcast. It is virtually complete, missing only the opening 2 instrumentals

ps sorry for anybody interested the alt release is titled 'Rave On'

Thanks for the upgrade. My copy was missing the first two instrumental tracks, and was origin-unknown.

Thanks Dave,

I too have been keeping an eye on the page to be able to quickly grab this if it came through.

Mad props for "The Man" - 2 is so much better than just 1!

You are most generous in your offerings here.

Thank you for this...In all honesty I was a little disappointed with the last "early Lampinski" sound quality although I have hung on to it just because it's the Man.
Thanks Dave for all you do!

This is so cool... out of all the artists out there, my two favorite to collect in boots are Bob Dylan and especially Van. Since all Van's boots have dried up from the web, this is a real treat, and to have them in full FLAC is just as good as it gets.

Thanks so much Dave!

Great stuff - I had an hour of this on tape from a late 80's BBC broadcast. I reckon this could be the same recording in full (the BBC started using handheld DAT recorders to make their 'In Concert' programmes in the late 80's) so despite being an 'audience' this may well be a pre-FM.

That's a cool story about you taking the photo -- and how fun it must have been to see this show live!!

Wow, that is really nice sounding, and I agree with those who recommend it. This is coming from one who has not encountered too many satisfying live Van recordings in the past.

Thank you so much for sharing this recording. Simply fantastic.
