Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.
He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.
Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.
Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.
This transfer is a 16bit/44.1KHz flac files suitable for CD burning.

Thanks again, Dave, for spreading & sharing these superb Dan Lampinski recordings! This one truly is a must for any diehard Yes fan: great setlist, great playing, great recording!
(this one might even top Millard's tape from later in the tour: the crowd is just as boisterous, but this show has a more interesting setlist, imo, except for lacking Going For The One--SQ is definitely as good as Mike's '77 Yes tape--speed/pitch sounds right--just a great performance!!

The sound is not "poor" on this!
(It does distort in a few spots--Squire's bass--but you have to remember Dan had floor seats for this show--according to the ticket stub in the artwork--and Yes had a full, very loud soundsystem back then!) If he was further back a bit it probably would have sounded a bit cleaner.
It's more because Yes was very popular as a live act at this time and people went for the spectacle with the lazer lightshow, etc. and talked/clapped a lot during the concert, instead of listening quietly and enjoying the tunes--and Dan was right in the middle of the commotion down low!
The sound mix in the arena was f$%ked up-from the PRRP version of the show:
“As hockey rinks go, the Providence Civic Center has good acoustics. However, the PA system levels and the mix were all over the place. Later on, I read that Yes had a substitute sound man on that tour. He had high-end hearing loss which explains why the mix is so bright. (PRRP: we fixed this is the remaster process) As far as levels, the Firebird opening was okay, but when the band started playing Parallels, you could hardly hear them. The sound man was trying to let people get used to the volume slowly and overdid it. He kept nudging up the volume during All Good People. It actually got a little too loud at one point, then came back down. I was taking photographs and had an experienced friend (a Deadhead) monitoring the levels on my
deck. He did his best to compensate for what was happening. Close to the Edge and Wondrous Stories were okay but the sound man jacked up the volume for the silly tour song (Colours of the Rainbow) and then dropped it way back down for Turn of the Century. (PRRP: Again, fixed in the remaster process) I think my friend was wasted by then. The levels were a little on the low side for the rest of the show.”

different mics, different taper, different seats, prrp remastered lampinski is raw tape w/ no eqing at all.
and the one you reference has nothing to do with lampinski-it is barry rogoff's recording contrary to what dave has posted there
I make many mistakes, no doubt but I only "questioned" whether or not the other post was a Lampinski - mentioning that it was a favorite era, venue, seat location and tape deck used. I did say that Lampinski was not mentioned anywhere in the information provided.
i did not mean to imply that it was but that (to me) it could have been.

well, it's always good to have comments from people... anyone can learn something, like in this case... i'm not a big fan of lampinsky's recordings, but thanks God they exist...! (and thanks to Dave for posting them!)... I like Millard tape better than this one, but since we don't have a Yes soundboard recording from 1977, everything else is welcome...!

It looks like a good concert, but the eighth link of megaupload is fail, when I tried to decompress it, the computer detected an error and couldn't show me the files. I'll found out other way to achieve that archive
