In October 1976 Zappa toured with vocalists Ray White and Lady Bianca (another strongly gospel-influenced singer), Eddie Jobson (freed from Roxy Music as Bryan Ferry split for a solo career) on violin and keyboards and the O'Hearn/Bozzio rhythm section. With so few participants, there was less need for the elaborate arrangements used for larger forces, and the music was exceptionally fluid - the sound wet and live. The was room for a great deal of spontaneity.
Frank invited Lady Bianca to tour with him as a backing vocalist and pianist but this only lasted a month as she felt uncomfortable singing some of his highly sexual lyrics.
Lady Bianca was in the band when the tour started in Miami on October 16, 1976, and She quit sometime between November 11th-16th '76. The last tape with Bianca is Quebec November 11th and the first without her is Toronto November 16. She sang "You Didn't Try To Call Me" and "Black Napkins" in virtually every show.
Lady Bianca is featured on “Wind Up Workin’ in a Gas Station” from the Rykodisc Cd “You Can’t Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 6”. Other performances can be found on various Zappa bootlegs.

Interesting how this concert takes place almost exactly one year before the Zappa concert that Dan taped the following year at the same venue!
(now this show definitely sounds like it runs too fast pitchwise.)

Definitely been enjoying this one! Another superb Dan L. taping!, and even though it is the early show, it doesn't sound like Zappa is holding anything back: he sounds really happy and connected to the audience and does some excellent guitaring! (he actually sounds more 'engaged' than on the recent official Philly '76 release.)
The pitch is definitely a little fast--but it really is an excellent sounding recording!!!
also, just noticed something: the photos in the 'covers 1' folder are not from this band--they are from the earlier '76 line-up with Napoleon Murphy Brock who you can see clearly dancin' and playing the sax in the photos; so if anybody is burning these to discs and printing out covers make sure to use the artwork in 'covers 2' folder!
The more i listen to this recording, the more i like it! Zappa takes some really beautiful, long languid guitar solos (more mellow than usual) and really sounds like he is in a good mood: much better than the rather 'automatic' and bland performance that is on 'Philly 76'. Don't miss this one!!
Only the 2d Zappa show I have listened to and I am indeed hooked! The Torture Never Stops and Black Napkins are the highlights of a VG show. Sound quality, AUD A/A-. Thanks Dave!
Thank you so much for this. I am not a recording expert...it sounds great to me. Frank in a good mood and wonderful to hear some R&B homage for Lady Bianca to get her teeth into.
Altogether a collector's item I think.
