OU NOTES: There wasn’t a sudden sea change from prog to punk as many would like to believe happened. We were still listening to our rock gods until (in some cases) many years after. Although this would be the only time I saw Pink Floyd, I didn’t give up on their studio recordings until after the release of The Wall film and Roger Waters’ resignation.
It had been clear for a while that Waters really wanted to make a film, and this was probably as a result of the film soundtrack work the group had been offered over the years since Syd Barrett had left, most notably with Barbet Schroeder (“More”) and Franco Zefferelli (“Zabriskie Point”).
Stafford New Bingley Hall is a cowshed, though, no matter how you light it and regardless of how many seats you install, which means that the recording here is distinctly lacking in any sonic quality. It is what it is, and struggles to rise above the atrocious acoustics of the venue. This was recorded about two thirds of the way back, and slightly to the left of the sound desk. This particular night, he Giant Pig got its snout caught on the Aerial of the sound-desk to much laughter...
Recommended Track: Pigs (Three Different Ones) – a withering song attacking the hypocrisy of politicians, and with Mr Waters’ trademark scream. It really doesn’t get much better than this. IMHO of course…

Sound quality: 6? 7? take your pick...
share and enjoy!! -starboy

PF played New Bingley Hall, Stafford, England on 28,29,30 and 31 March 1977. So the 3 March date is in error. According to Fingals Cave, there are no known recordings of the first two nights and the 30th and 31st both have Money as the encore.

Incidentally has Fingals Cave gone for good or is there a new URL?

My guess is that this is the 30th. The 31st show has the set list in a different order. I only had the incomplete Sbd from the 30th, so this is still a nice share. Thank you.

All posts/artwork/info for these shos are riddled with errors. Can't listen to this now but assuming that the titles for trax 1 & 3 are reversed in error, then this must be the 30th I think. Most importantly the 31st is available as VG+ qual anyway, I also have an alt 'Animals in the Hall' at VG- for the 30th. If it's not resolved by then i'll try to use my ears when circumstances allow! Personally i'd take all info for these shows with a large pinch of salt

do you know "one link album"?
Sharing with so much protections.
You like money?

Bad man :(

Hi,
I don't know how else to get comment in...
Can you obtain (and post) the "Bertha" remaster of the Winterland 02-23-1974 Soundboard?
Would love to see it here.
Thanx

I downloaded and tried to compare.

Track 1 and 3 are listed wrongly. They played Animals in the standard live order: S,PotW1,D,PotW2,P3DK. Thus Sheep should be renamed Dogs and vice versa

For comparison I've got
1977-03-30 Animals In The Hall
1977-03-31 Last Night In Stafford

I've listened but can't confirm it being the same as either of these. The trouble with a concert of this era is that the songs didn't vary much; you have to listen to the other sounds. Neither of the above two commences with going home arrangements. The number called out at 12:38 in "Pigs (3 different ones)" is totally indistinct. Maybe others can have a go. It might be a completely different date.

The notes suggest quality of 6-7. I'd say that is generous. This is better quality than "1977-03-30 Animals In The Hall"

Please: Antonioni, not Zeferelli.

To the Anonymous idiot above - everything on here is FREE to download. There are no
'protections'. Who cares if the shows are split into several parts instead of "one link albums" as you state?! Fact is, these are large Flac files, not lossy mp3 crap, so splitting them is likely necessary in order to upload them in the first place. If Dave - who is anything BUT a bad man in my book - gets a tiny kickback for each link pressed, so much the better - keeps the site going.

I get the chance to continue hosting for free (i.e. 10,000 points = an additional month downloading without cost to me)...but I think that you are right: I should continue to spend spend 2-3 hours a day on this blog, share my 6TB collection with everybody (freely) and besides paying to start up premium accounts and pay for an upgraded internet service (so that I can upload 24/7) I should also spend my personal money to upkeep the accounts each month.
Good idea!!

Re the quality: This is a newly surfaced source (quite amazing after 33 years) and I took the uploader's word for the quality. Sorry if it disappoints.

RE Soundboard: You have a bonafide soundboard from an Animals show?
None are known to exist from ANY 1977- it would be nice to have you circulate it somewhere...why not here?

Dave

I'm not complaining about the quality. I'm grateful for anything, but I think it not unreasonable to discuss and correct problems in the notes. As you've said on many occasions, you reprint the notes as they come. In this case we have a date error and track mistitling error.

In comparison the quality issue is just subjective. If someone who was just starting out wanted to download a 1977 date then I would advise them to seek out Animal Instincts. Even that can't get a 10 which ought to be reserved for stuff like Meddled, but then that has lower quality sections... In my comment I say it is better quality than Animals in the hall (30 Mar), which is the current favourite for the correct date. Alternatively this might not be an upgrade: it might be a new show entirely.

When you've collected a lot of stuff by one group then inevitably you start to compare versions. This anal attention to detail is a sign of excitement or interest. Please don't take it as a complaint or insult.

Dave,

I appreciate your work.

You have made a lot of fans happy from places that you can't even imagine.

Thank you for your labour of love.

Hi there
As the announcer in the Going Home Arrangement says, there will be a "bus to Stoke". As Stafford lies 29 km/18 miles south of Stoke-on-Trent, this recording MUST be from one of the Stafford shows. The questions remains: Which one?

My guess is that this is 30th; that day, Wales played Czechoslovakia in a World Cup Qualifier, and you can hear the match commentary by Peter Jones on the radio segment preceding "Wish You Were Here".
