Led Zeppelin: Trentham Gardens-Stoke 1973 (Soundboard) FLAC

soul_brothers_inner
1/15/73 "Soul Brothers" (Tarantura 2000)
Trentham Gardens-Stoke , England

Disc 1:
1-Rock and Roll
2-Over The Hills and Far Away
3-Black Dog
4-Misty Mountain Hop
5-Since Ive Been Loving You
6- Dancing Days
7- Bron-Y-Aur Stomp
8- The Song Remains The Same
9-The Rain Song

Disc 2:
1-Dazed & Confused
2-Stairway to Heaven
3-Whole Lotta Love

Great release of this show from Tarantura 2000 including beautiful artwork. Plant's voice is a bit rough as he had a bad cold/flu at this time, though not as bad as some of the other Jan. '73 shows. The playing is outstanding on this gig and the sound for a '73 SBD is very enjoyable. Bonzo's up front (which is okay with me) but the bass and guitar are balanced nicely.

OU: I was looking for something nice and good-sounding for the next seed and this cd just popped up naturally as the next choice. Interesting broadcast from the BBC of the Roxy Music reunion tour from 2001. Not the full show but a good indication of how that tour was. I saw it in Milano and it was good indeed. I found Manzanera and MacKay very inspired on that tour and the setlist was a summary of the best from Roxy. As always, enjoy! -ldb

Taper's Comments: Lisner Auditorium, on the campus of George Washington University, is a 1500 seat venue, rather shaped like a fan. At the very back you at least get the illusion that it might be wider than it is deep. There are only 35 rows of seating. It is still an active venue today.
This was my second effort ever at recording a show. The show was sold out, and I barely got in, sitting in the very last row off to the left in Row UU Seat 9. It was a very warm day for April, and the venue was hotter than hell. It was likely lucky that I sat in the last row, as if I'd been closer, the recording would have been total mush. The volume levels were unreal, and only got louder when headliners RUSH took the stage. Hey, I like it loud, but next time check in with THIN LIZZY's sound crew who know how to kick your ass without making your ears bleed.
I thought MAX WEBSTER were a lot of fun, and they went down real well at this show, especially for an unknown band. They were pretty big in Canada, and Kim Mitchell later would be even more successful as a solo artist. Enjoy!

Sources, numbered relative to chronological release date: Tarantura = source 1, Amsterdam = source 2, TDOLZ = source 3, Flagge = source 4, Reel Masters = source 5, & Tarantura2000 = 6.
The two Tarantura titles are mostly from the first source. The introduction and Dazed come from source two. The Campaign re-issued source one used in it's earlier title. This time, they made a few edits at cuts. One of the edits is after Stairway To Heaven. It replaces 20 seconds of the original tape with 10 seconds of tape from elsewhere.
Amsterdam and TDOLZ titles are exclusively from single, separate sources, numbers two and three. Amsterdam runs a bit fast and could have been easily placed on two cds instead of three.
Flagge's title is from the fourth source, but not entirely. It uses some of the TDOLZ source to complete Dazed and talk between some songs. Some of the tape after the show is borrowed from the Amsterdam source.
Reel Masters is from the fifth source, but not entirely. It uses some of the TDOLZ source to complete Rain Song and Stairway To Heaven.
Tarantura2000 is from the fifth source, but not entirely. It uses some of the TDOLZ source after Rain Song. Brief splicing occurs during Whole Lotta Love too. The title could have been placed on two cds.
LSD is a 2 source mix. It uses the Amsterdam source up to the beginning of Stairway and then uses the Tarantura source for the remainder. The source shared with Amsterdam is much better sounding and runs at the proper speed.
Wendy is a similar mixture as LSD, but they throw in the TDOLZ source briefly after Stairway. The two splices during Dazed are hopefully not mixing in the remaining two tapes.

Argenteum Astrum:
"It is very good to be back. When group come to Tokyo - group have fun! We should clap you!" introducing Plant. A good show, although the crowd doesn't create a very good atmosphere. Robert's voice is still high and strong but shows definite signs of coming down within the next three or four months, which it does. The band is excellent as always and offers up excellent versions of Dazed And Confused and a very emotional Since I've Been Loving You, which has Robert tearing his throat with passion. The Song Remains The Same was introduced under a different title: "Last night it was called Zep, tonight we'll call it The Overture."

Talking Heads: US Festival 1982 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

US Festival
1982-9-3
Devore,Ca.
OU: In the LA beach city I grew up in the talk of the summer of 1982 was the big music festival happening out in San Bernadino. There were posters for the event of the 80's everywhere! ( I still have one somewhere) My friends and I had only one goal and that was to go the first day to see the "New Wave" day. I was a lucky teen that knew someone in "the industry" and was able to get passes for the whole weekend.

Ian Dury and the Music Students: London 1984 (FM) FLAC

>Ion Tape 2 PC>Audacity1.3>Wav (16bit)>FLAC re-encoded (SBE alignment, encoded level 6 1/10)
Total time: 39.24

2.If I Was With a Woman
3.Take Me To The Cleaners
4.Manic Depression
5.Friends
6.What A Waste
7.Percy The Poet
8.Spasticus (Autisticus)
9.Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick

Superb set from Ian Dury- from a period when he recorded with The Music Students rather than with the Blockheads, and taken from the BBC 'Sight and Sound in Concert' series (sound on BBC Radio One FM/VHF, and sight on BBC TV. (According to web sources accessed in 1/09, it remains in question what the reasons for the temporary split with the Blockheads may have been, but disputes over payment have been rumoured)- this period and the album at the time were critically poorly received, (and at the time of writing the album has never been issued on cd), although judging from this it can't have been bad, as this is a superb set. One of my favourite tape transfers so far. Sound is excellent- with very little hiss. The last track is cut slightly short, as the allotted time for the radio programme was up.

OU: A pretty good recording of a good show from U2. Of course, that is just my opinion. Had an extra ticket due to a friend not being able to go. There was a glut of extra tickets at the show. A scalper told me that they couldn't give them away. So I went up to a group of students and did exactly that. Congrats to Scott who got to see his first U2 show for free. With a $252 ticket at that. If the tracking is a little off, give me a break. I've been up for 25 hours, and I'm tired. Dedicated to Richard and Mark who both wanted to go but couldn't, and to Scott who did go.
Do with this recording as you will, because you will anyways.

Kiss: Ipswich 1984 (FM) FLAC

Transfer direct from FM master tape (original broadcast recording made 4/1/85 onto Sony BHF 90 cassette tape)> Ion Tape 2 PC>Audacity 1.3>Wav (16 bit)> FLAC (SBE corrected via Trader's Little Helper) FLAC encoded level 6
OU: Great set from the 'Animalize' tour-the usual nonsense involved (e.g. the 'women around here are like submarines' spiel- very silly), but this features some entertaining old songs- e.g. 'I Still Love You' etc.
Transfer came out well- superb sound.
This brought back some good memories of seeing them at Southampton Gaumont on the same tour.

Note from the PRRP Site
"It is Here It is Now"
In October 1974, Genesis were about to release their magnum opus, " The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway". An eleven day warm up tour of the UK had been planned when tragedy struck in the form of a bad hand injury suffered by lead guitarist Steve Hackett. Since a major North American tour was due to start at the end of November, the UK concerts had to be postponed, meaning that the "Lamb Show" would not be preformed in Britain until April of the following year.
On November 20, 1974, Genesis were booked to play the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, the first concert of what would become their most colossal tour to date, and unbeknownst to the fans, their last tour with Peter Gabriel fronting the band. The early American shows were a challenge the band and audience alike, as Phil Collins recalls : "We went to America, where the album had not been released yet, which was pure suicide, and we were playing the whole thing to audiences who where just sitting there wondering, "What the hell is going on?". However as "The Lamb" became a more familiar set piece, the situation improved during the second half of the US tour and the European dates that ensued.
When Genesis finally reached the UK in April 1975, they were at their performing peak. "The Lamb" show had already been played in it's entirety some 75 times by this point and so British audiences were treated to some of the finest performances of the entire tour. Only Peter Gabriel's impending departure cast a cloud over the band's mood, something that went unnoticed by the enthusiastic audiences. On April 14th 1975, Genesis performed "The Lamb" at Empire Pool in Wembley, London, the first of only 15 "Lamb Shows" to be performed on British soil.
The following night's show was recorded by the BBC, but only highlight of this recording ever reached the airwaves, leaving fans to wonder whether or not the complete soundboard recording may still be in existence in the vaults. The famous partial broadcast gave birth to what is probably the most "bootlegged" Genesis concert ever. From the original vinyl LP, "Awed Man Out", to "The Light Goes Down On An Empire" a Japanese CD release, this recording has gone a string of different versions, varying in quality as well as content.
Thanks to the effort of a fan who recorded the Empire Pool concert on April 15th 1975, we can now offer this great remaster of the performance, presented in it's entirety at last. Only a small section of Peter's second part of "The Story of Rael" is missing from the original tape but the rest remains intact. Now you can hear each and every song that was omitted from the radio broadcast. The pressure on Peter must have been terrible at this point, but that did not keep him from cracking a few jokes with the audience. He even included some typical British humor when describing Rael's discovery of " hundreds of people crawling on a thick carpeted corridor" by adding " Carpets of Cyril Lord at prices you can afford !", a reference to a famous British wholesaler from way back. Overall the band really shone that night, as you will hear on this great recording. Listen to Steve's flaming guitar licks in "Fly On A Windshield", and Tony's delicate keyboards arrangements in "The Lamia", Mike's growling bass lines in "Broadway Melody of 1974" and Phil's inventive drumming in "The Colony of Slipperman", all wrapped up with Peter's distinctive and charismatic vocals. Every element helps to make performance one of the most powerful ever delivered by Genesis. The awesome improvisation that they engaged in for "The Waiting Room" that night is proof enough of how inspired the band could be when their incredible individual talents were combined. Enjoy this amazing piece of rock history!

Notes from the Re-Master
There are many versions of this concert available among Genesis Fans. The BBC recorded the show and those tapes were used to produce limited versions of this concert. This recording as based on an audience tape which is essentially complete. Only a couple of sentences during the Story of Rael part 2 are missing. This was likely when the original tape was turned during the show. The quality of this stereo recording is quite good. For some reason, the right channel volume was consistently 25-30% lower than the left. This was corrected. The recorder was probably near the front of the stage at the time of the concert. This allows us to appreciate the ambience of the concert hall acoustics without suffering from the "airplane hanger" effect of recordings made from the back row of an auditorium. This close proximity may also explain why treble was overemphasized in this recording and needed to be reduced. The last two songs also seem to be different in their tonality with even less bass and more treble. They may have been recorded onto a different tape, hence different characteristics. All of this was fixed. Further, the last two songs suffered from constant crackle, the source of which is unknown. Fortunately, it was easily removed. Hiss was quite prominent throughout the recording but was removed without too much trouble. Because it was an audience recording, removing the hiss made audience talking more obvious, and at some point distracting. Nothing could be done about this. Again, because of the audience placement of the recording device, applause was quite overpowering at some points and needed to be reduced. Pops and clicks were also quite frequent. 53 were manually removed and others were corrected using algorithms. Peter was quite dynamic with the vocals during this performance. At some points the vocals are quite soft and needed enhancement. At other times they were overwhelming and distorted at their peaks. This was corrected as best as possible. The letter 'S' when sung loudly produced a hiss that needed to be reduces on many occasions. For some reason, during the last song, Watcher of the Skies, for about 50 seconds the volume of the Left channel drops to about one third of the original volume. The cause for this is unknown but this was also fixed. The Tracking of the concert was quite curious. Disc one track placements did not correspond well at all to the known tracking of the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway studio version. So, most of the first disc tracking was reworked. On the second disc the 'Lamb' tracking was correct. The only change that was made was to separate the 'Story of Henry' from 'The Musical Box' within the "Musical Box" track, thereby adding an additional track.

Led Zeppelin: Milwaukee 1973 (Good+ Aud) FLAC

one_more_for_the_road_f
Quality: Good To Very Good Audience
No Of Cds: 2
Comments: remastered from "One More For The Road" Red Hot CDr copy. Index clicks, tics, gaps and repetitions present on the original source completely removed. Tracks index rearranged. SBEs checked and fixed with Shntool. Sound equalized with Adobe Audition 1.5 parametric equalizer (upgrade of Cool Edit Pro 2.1). Denoised using a noise sample taken from a sound gap present on the original source. Little ambience added with StereoPlate reverb control.
I rediscovered this great show checking some discs for a trade and I thought very soon to make a remastering out of it because is an incredible good show, with stunning versions of almost every song performed with STH being the best IMO but with improvable sound. And again, it's not that much circulated. I suggest you to don't miss this one because is a really great concert.

Pink Floyd: Pasadena 1994 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

The Australian Semi-Legal Bootleg* Series Presents:
PinkFloyd_TakeItBack_cover
Pink Floyd - Take It Back - Live In The USA 1994 (Part 1)

Lineage: Silver -> EAC -> Goldwave (realignment of track splits) -> FLAC 8 -> MWP
Label: Grapefruit GRA-034-A
Running Time: 71m 55s
www.pf-roio.de/roio/roio-cd/take_it_back.cd.html ...indicates that this recording comes from a performance at the Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA 16th April 1994 during the Division Bell tour.

Tracklisting:
01. Astronomy Domine
02. Learning To Fly
03. What Do You Want From Me
04. Poles Apart
05. Sorrow
06. Take It Back
07. On The Turning Away
08. Keep Talking
09. One Of These Days
10. Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 1-5

Note 1: This is one of the finest audience recordings I've ever heard. To quote the 'Pink Floyd RoIO Database' "...the sound quality is good throughout - about as good as I have heard from an audience tape. I'd say a DAT for sure. Bass is good and clean."
Artwork Included.
*In the early 1990s a legal loophole in the Australian copyright laws allowed bootleggers to factory-manufacture and sell, in high street shops, unlicenced and unauthorised live recordings of numerous artists. This loophole was closed very quickly by legislators and consequently the bootlegs produced disappeared, although some can still be found in 2nd-hand shops to this day. The audio sources of the bootlegs were usually radio broadcasts and the sound quality was very good even though each title, released on fly-by-night labels such as 'Chartbusters', 'SW', 'Joker', 'Cherry' and some others, carried a disclaimer stating, for example, "This recording has not been authorised by the artist or his record company. This CD may not be of the same sound quality as an authorised release."

Pink Floyd: Celestial Instruments 1968 (Soundboard click-free version by MOB) FLAC

showpic
Celestial Instruments (click-free version) - MOB Remaster
The Paradiso, Amsterdam, NL
1969-08-09

1. Interstellar Overdrive
2. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
3. Careful With That Axe, Eugene
4. A Saucerful Of Secrets

This fantastic recording from Hilversum 3 Radio surfaced on 26Aug07. All credits should go to TJ and his anonymous source!
However, when listening carefully to the original files, I realised that they suffered from slight crackling and some clicks here and there (the track that suffered the most from these flaws was ASOS, with something like 50 glitches). Since this kind of flaw is not too difficult to clean manually (it's time consuming, but not very difficult with the appropriate tools), I did this "click-free" version.
So what you have here is basically the original recording, but without the glitches, clicks and crackles. ;-)
The sound of the recording was not altered in any way (the original quality was so great it did't need any improvement, and the speed was perfect).
Apart from the clicks correction, I just did some editing in order to avoid the fade-in/out between each track (so the listening experience is uninterrupted, with 40 minutes of a "continuous" recording). I also swapped the channels, in order to have a mix that is consistent with the Ummagumma live tracks, i.e. the guitar on the left and the keyboards on the right (this mix therefore corresponds to the Floyd configuration on stage), while the original recording had the guitar on the right and the keyboards on the left.
This choice of swapping channels was also motivated in order to have an easy way to identify the version of the show: if you have this recording with the guitar on the right, then you probably have the original recording. If the guitar is on the left, then you probably have the click-free version. ;-)
Enjoy!

Selection Shaved Temporarily

RoadTrip
Hi Friends,
I am gearing up for a short road trip (business) in the next few days. You know that I love to keep the boots flowing so I will post 4 a day for the next few days (instead of 5-6). I will still offer a couple each day over the weekend as well.
By Thursday of next week, we'll be back to full steam ahead.
Take Care until then,
Dave

High Dive

The info from the website expecting says that this is an audience recording. If that is true, it is one of the best audience recordings of TWS I have heard. This recording is worth gettting just for Stop Breaking Down but I assure you that the rest of this show is good as well. Also, their seems to be some alternate lyrics to Death Letter. (Or maybe I should pay more attention to the lyrics and less attention to the guitar work......)
Here is the info from the original text file:
