The Wh?: Dayton 1971 (Ex- Aud) FLAC

The Who - Collectors Item
August 13, 1971
Dayton, Ohio
Excellent Audience Recording
Label - Wholiday Music
http://www.thewho.net/bootlegs/cds/thewholive4.html

This silver disc started off as an LP bootleg in the 70's. Luckily, Wholiday Music made a cd version of it. The sound isn't as good as Mike Millard's tapes, but considering its 1971, just as Who's Next was released, this is worth the download for even soundboard collectors!

1. Bargain
2. Behind Blue Eyes
3. Won't Get Fooled Again
4. I Don't Even Know Myself
5. Baby Don't You Do It
6. Pinball Wizard

corrected repost
pic15
This gig is part of 100 cd of a rock encyclopedia made of live recordings. It captures johnny during 1971 european tour, in a very good mood. It contain an incredible version of the famous Medley, where Johnny play for 22' turning after 5' the standard riff for a dreaming improvisation.

Stockholm 1971-01-02

The Rolling Stones: Studio Outtakes 1972-1981 (FLAC) Download Friendly

PlacePigalle-FRONT
THE ROLLING STONES - PLACE PIGALLE
A Vinyl Gang Product 362
LINEAGE: Original VGP CD -> WAV (EAC v. 0.95 beta 4 - secure, Offset "actual") -> FLAC (flacfrontend, level 6) -> You
DATE: Studio Outtakes 1972 - 1981
QUALITY: Excellent Mono (for the most)
COMMENTS: Essential material, put together on a 4CD set by VGP. If you got this one, plus "Accidents Will Happen" (VGP version), you have the most important studio outtakes from the 2nd part of the 70s.
For the most, the songs here are taken from best possible sources.
VGP did some great EQ work - hardly any hiss. BUT they turned the songs into mono - while some of them were available from hissier stereo sources on other bootlegs.
Some people prefer the sound of the rare OutsiderBird bootlegs over the VGP.....they have more hiss, but also more punch. It depends on the listener which kind of sound one prefer.
In either case, this is a great compilation of studio outtakes - and a MUST have. Get it here from silvers

Pink Floyd: Rome 1971 (VG Aud) FLAC

23741
**ratpie cassettes** sourced from 2nd gen master tape not a bootleg / certainly the best and most comlete version of this show
Pink Floyd
Palaeur
Rome, Italy
June 20th, 1971

Transfer Lineage: 2nd Gen Cassette > Nakamichi ZX-7 > Tascam HD-P2 (Wave 24bit/96khz) > Flash Card > PowerMac G5 (xACT 1.62 WAV > FLAC8)
Mastering: FLAC8 > Wave 24bit/96khz > Samplitude10 (32bit float/96kHz) > Wave (16bit/44kHz) > CDWave (1.98) > FLAC

OU: I know it took more time than anticipated, but it was worth the wait. There were issues with the first transfer ratpie sent me so we found another person, who wishes to remain anonymous, to transfer ratpie's tapes and the results were superb. The quality of the A->D conversion is very apparent. In terms of SQ, this is a definite upgrade to all circulating versions. One million thanks to ratpie for sharing his recording with all of us.
***Littlepieces' Mastering Notes*** This is a stereo recording that was recorded very hot. This suggests that it was recorded on a good tape deck because most cheap decks can't handle high peak levels. The levels bounce around at +5db and peak at +7db. That is the kind of levels you would set for a metal tape.
Three of the four cassette sides were running at the correct speed and fortunately did not require a speed correction/resampling. Only the cassette side containing STC and Cymbaline required a speed increase of 1.5%. Interesting to note that this is the cassette side that you can hear a minor bleed through of sound on STC. Apparently, somewhere in the lineage, past content was not completely erased. This bleed through is also on the common 2nd gen.
The only editing required was as follows: Removed the dead air at the ends of the cassette transfers and within the recording. Removed repeated segments and spliced FOS and SOS portions from different cassettes. Removed a loud mic thump during AHM. The rest of the mic disturbances were mostly during audience segments and were left in as part of the document. Removed a small dropout near the beginning of SOS. About 1m after the repaired dropout, I left another minor dropout in the left channel unchanged. It would have required a copying of the right channel and likely some gain/EQ changes in order to make it transparent. Its a very minor dropout and I think the type of processing that would be required to fix it is not appropriate for a new transfer release.
It took me a few minutes to truly appreciate the nature of the quality of this recording, but it is now trying to make its way on to my short list of favorite shows.

01 (18:07) Atom Heart Mother
02 (02:29) Audience/Tuning
03 (14:19) Careful With That Axe, Eugene
04 (01:04) Tuning/Audience
05 (14:17) Fat Old Sun
06 (11:36) The Embryo
07 (23:23) The Return Of The Son Of Nothing
08 (12:14) Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
09 (11:54) Cymbaline
10 (00:48) Tuning/Audience
11 (18:39) A Saucerful Of Secrets
12 (00:59) Announcer/Audience
13 (07:22) Astronomy Domine
14 (01:15) Audience/Announcer
** (138:33)

***Some of the Differences I Noted Compared to the Common 2nd gen***
Has 10s more before AHM not on the common 2nd gen.
Missing ~2:30m before RoTSoN compared to common 2nd gen. Has announcer before break but not announcer after break.
Has 10s more before STC not on common 2nd gen.
Missing ~35s before Cymbaline compared to common 2nd gen.
Missing ~22s after SOS compared to common 2nd gen.
Missing ~30s of beginning of AD compared to common 2nd gen.
The Common 2nd gen runs ~2.5% slower.

Keith Tippett, Julie Tippetts, Louis Moholo-Moholo & Minafric Orchestra: 2008 (FM) FLAC

VlB2008_front
Ai confini tra Sardegna e Jazz 2008: Viva La Black
Recorded in Sant'Anna Arresi (Cagliari-Italy), Piazza del Nuraghe on tuesday 2 September 2008
OU: I have had many doubts on how to title/credit this torrent: too many musicians involved. The official record "Viva La Black Live at Ruvo" (ogun CD 020, 2004) is credited to "Keith Tippett, Julie Tippetts, Louis Moholo-Moholo & Canto Generàl", but in this concert a (slightly) different orchestra was used. Also note that when Ottaviano introduces this show (track02), he names this project as "Viva La Black": here is a partial translation "Viva La Black, this project was born in 2004, due to a meeting of a group of italian musicians with Keith Tippett and Louis Moholo". We should note that it would be incorrect to call them simply Viva La Black, because none of the original musicians (except for Moholo) or repertory (now based mainly on Tippett's tunes) are now present.

Keith Tippett, pianoforte, conduction;
Pino Minafra, trompet, conduction;
Luca Calabrese, trumpet;
Vito Mitoli, trumpet;
Roberto Ottaviano, soprano and alto saxophone;
Sandro Satta, alto saxophone;
Carlo Actis Dato, tenor saxophone;
Rossano Emili, baritone saxophone;
Lauro Rossi, trombone;
Gianpiero Malfatto, trombone;
Beppe Caruso, trombone;
Livio Minafra, keyboards;
Giovanni Maier, bass;
Louis Moholo-Moholo, drums;
Vincenzo Mazzone, drums;
Valentina Casula, voce;

Some history…
So, you think this is a performance by the band Viva la Black? Close, but no cigar.
Louis Moholo-Moholo has been flying the Viva la Black banner since at least the mid 80s when Moholo first formed a group with Sean Bergin, Thebe Lipere, Claude Deppa, Robert Bellatalla & Steve Williamson, releasing the debut eponymous Viva la Black album in 1988 (Ogun OG533 LP, now out of print and sadly never reissued on CD). The core group of Moholo/Bergin/Lipere/Deppa continued on in this form until the mid 1990s with the likes of Frank Douglas, Paul Rogers, Toby Delius, Jason Yarde and Pule Pheto also passing through the ranks at various times. One other studio album Exile (Ogun OGCD 003) was released in 1991 before the group saw Louis make his triumphant return tour to South Africa in 1993; almost 30 years after his self-imposed exile began. This tour was later documented on the superb Freedom Tour album (Ogun OGCD 006) a collage of cleverly crossfaded best takes from a variety of performances mixed together to give the impression of one continuous joyous riot of sound. Another studio album was laid down in 1995 with Francine Luce also joining the group, however for reasons never made clear this album was shelved, only finally seeing release as Bra Louis, Bra Tebs in 2006 (Ogun OGCD 017/018, packaged as a two CD set with the long overdue reissue of Moholo’s exceptional pre-VlB 1978 album Spirits Rejoice!). Additionally, for this release the VlB name was retired in favour of the simpler Louis Moholo-Moholo Septet.
Due to the up-front presence of Lipere’s percussion and vocals Viva la Black was always a very African sounding jazz group, fusing Xhosa music forms with exuberant jazz orchestrations and a healthy dose of unbridled spontaneity. A further Africanised Brotherhood of Breath if you will.
Material-wise, a great deal of the original VlB songbook was made up of original Moholo material, traditional folk forms arranged by Moholo and songs written by his compatriots in exile. The band would also occasionally mix in standards such as What a Wonderful World and Roland Kirk’s Volunteered Slavery with their usual set, though the VlB signature would always ensure these standards never sounded tired, and often sounded totally original in themselves.
When Moholo relaunched the Viva la Black banner in 2004 it was as a very different beast. Gone were all of the musicians involved in the original era, as was the bulk of the material. Instead it would be a new collaborative venture with Keith Tippett and Julie Tippetts, drawing most of the material from Keith’s back catalogue, along with a handful of adapted arrangements carried over from each musician’s time with the Dedication Orchestra. The only remnants from the original VlB era are an adaptation of the South African National Anthem, and a few of the “compatriot” tunes that were common to both Dedication Orchestra and the original VlB group. Sadly, none of Moholo’s own original compositions, nor his arrangements of traditional tunes made the cut.
Keith Tippett’s chosen material for this project is a virtual greatest hits package, mixing material from across his broad career. As is usual with Tippett, themes are likely to pop up in unexpected places, and in the wrong order. I’ve long been under the impression that Keith considers his entire catalogue as studies for his next projects. Never is any piece of Tippett music totally finished and done with.
Instead of recruiting a new band to join the trio, a decision was made to hire an existing one to play under the VlB banner; enter Pino Minafra and his group Canto General (along with the Farualla Singers), and later (as on this recording) the smaller Minafric Orchestra. As Minafra was running the Ruvo festival in 2004 he missed out on playing with the band at that event, something he had the opportunity to rectify with encore performances this year at two festivals in France. Last year’s release of the Live at Ruvo CD (Ogun OGCD 020), the only official document of the group in action, is sadly lacking this key member’s musical contributions. It is fortunate then that this new recording exists (albeit only as a bootleg at this point) to give us the opportunity to hear Minafra take his place on the stage beside the group he was instrumental in forming.
In the Italian trumpeter’s ensembles Moholo and the Tippetts have found the perfect complement to the spirited music presented here. Both Minafra-led groups are capable of embracing the type of rambunctious expressionism essential to make this music work, and which is so often lacking in many recordings/performances.
So, it’s a different Viva la Black at Grenoble for sure, but by no means is it a lesser Viva la Black.

OU Comments: This is the first recording I made. I believe we were located about 20 rows and a little stage right of center for this recording. The Men's Gym (West) was not a great sounding venue by any stretch of the imagination...yet we held concerts there.
The recording sounds ok considering the venue. Being my first recording, I paused
immediately after almost every piece to cut the crowd. I immediately unpaused after
the clapping died down, and I caught most of Warren's comments to the audience. The
college crowd was pretty respectful this evening as Warren perfomed solo on vocals,
piano, acoustic guitar and harmonica.

Billy Joel: Philadelphia 1972 (Remastered Pre-FM) FLAC

OU: I pretty much beefed up the sound as much as possible. The band is amazing, and I wanted to bring back the sparkle to the guitar, the bite of the drum and the balls to the bass playing.
As for the hiss, it's pretty much the same as the Pre-FM, I could have removed some of it, but I found it detracted from the visceral impact of the instruments...so I left it intact. The band is rocking enough to punch through it!
I also added a bit of chatter to the end of "Captain Jack" which wasn't present on this pre-FM, it's the line Billy says about not being able to get the song played on radio...I think it fit in pretty seamlessly at the end.

Foreigner: Dallas 1982 (Pre-FM) FLAC

3140440[2]
Foreigner - Dallas, TX 1982 preFM A+ (AARD005)
(exact date unknown)

OU: This is Foreigner at their peak, right before they turned from an awesome rock band to a wimpy forulaistic ballad band. The energy in this show is incredible and Lou's voice is shot at the end, but that's not a bad thing as his raw power and pure emotion on Hot Blooded blows away any other version IMHO.
Now the bad news. This show is from my SuperGroups in Concert 3 LP set, and is probably most (if not all) of the show. This show was then re-edited down to a 55min. radio show which seems to be the more available show. However when I recorded this to PC I was still using those ancient little 5" plastic disks (CD's), so I edited the 3LP's myself so that it would fit on 1 80 min CD. So while this has more then the 55min version and is perfect preFM quality it is missing Louanne, Rev On The Red Line, Modern Day and Waiting For A Girl Like You that are on my LP's. (Now Waiting is a terrible song so who cares about that, but the other 3 are fine). I have so many other LP's and cassettes to in queue to transfer to the PC I do not have the time to totally re-do this show. Maybe someday I will get to it, but barring that this is still Foreigner at their best in sound quality and performance quality. Enjoy!

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.
He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.
Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.
Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.
Always remember - the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you.

OU: This is an amazing FM broadcast. Recorded for the SPIN RADIO CONCERT for syndicated release to radio stations all over the country, what was eventually broadcast in syndication was an 11 song mish-mash of the actual set played. When it was first broadcast on KPFK-FM, however, the full 23 song set was aired! This broadcast also doesn’t have the ANNOYING DJ promotional chatter that was peppered throughout the SPIN broadcast…Just the Minutemen doing their thing…
Since my original recording cut off on “Green River”, I included the partial version as well as the full version from a promo LP of the SPIN show, (ya can hear the pop in the vinyl). The missing “The Red & The Black” was also included from that vinyl. I do have a master SPIN promo vinyl, but no access to a turntable right now, so I got them from Sir Demon Brown’s “CORNDOGS.ORG” site. Thanks to him fer that…The partial version of “Green River” doesn’t have the annoying DJ intro the SPIN show has, and it sounds better than the LP version, my reason fer leaving the partial version here…
A couple of minor dropouts cannot kill this one…NOTHING can kill this one, it is ridiculous…One of the first minutemen recordings I ever got, and still a hallmark recording.

Roger Waters and The Bleeding Heart Band: Berlin Wall Rehearsals 1990 (Studio) FLAC

now including megaupload
sals-FRP-front
aka The London Rehearsals
May 2, 1990
London, England
Free Range Pigs (FRP CDR 032/033) in association with Harvested Records

Lineage: Soundboard > Town House Post-Production Studio > Maxell UDL II 129 Studio Cassette >
Edirol UA-1D > CEP > Hard Drive > WAV (48 Khz) > FLAC
Comments: This is a soundboard recording of a rehearsal in a small London studio with The Bleeding Heart Band. It is an absolutely clean studio take complete with chatter between and during tracks. This is not the final, full-up rehearsal with all of the artists that appeared in Berlin.
The story: Someone who worked in the post-production studio made a copy of the master tape, or plugged his recorder into the soundboard. He then took a studio stock pre-printed cassette cover and typed the title and date of the rehearsal on it.

Interview w/ Ra by Neil Tesser
Total Time: 81:01

OU Notes: FM - WBEZ (NPR) Chicago, IL
I was able to burn to one Disc w/ no problem.
I left the tracks labeled for two Discs if needed for proper split because of Original Tape flip. The flip is good & between songs. There is a two second drop in the Right Channel on d2t03 at 2:22 - 2:24. I think it was in the Broadcast. It is on the Master Tape as well.
Too bad the radio jocks talked over the end of the show. I left it in not to chop things up & the interview with Ra as he's coming off stage is priceless.
