I am sharing with you some mixed emotions that I am experiencing - specifically regarding the Britney Spears post which I have since removed.
I have always felt that I run a rather above-board blog. I have also sought and valued your opinions and have done my best to be attentive to opinions expressed or needs that should be addressed.
I recently posted a video of a deleted scene from Jackass 3 of Britney Spears in a porta-potty bungie launch. This scene was not taken from the cutting room but aired publicly and has circulated the internet and then some.
Ms. Spears was not filmed surreptitiously. She was paid for doing what she chose to do or used the opportunity to go before the public for PR. She appeared to know full well what would happen to her AND was clearly a very good sport about the whole thing.
I do not mind people objecting to this. Admittedly you have to be a certain type to have found it funny and objecting is part of the American way. What I do object to were the threats to report me or my blog to Britney Spears Management or Google.
Here's an idea: GO AHEAD! The button is on the top.
My spending almost 3 hours a day in front of a computer to upload and post what is now near 5,000 bootlegs would probably be better spent outside in the sunshine (if ND actually had sunshine that is).
I don't get my panties in a bunch that often but today is just one of those days.
I have previously promised to post a Van Morrison each day this week. I intend to honor that promise.
I will not however post anything else for the remainder of this week and in the next few days I will decide if I want to keep going at all. If the blog is blank on Sunday then you will know what my decision was.

Sorry to hear about that Dave. The BS clip was on Jimmy Kimmel's show, and was a joke. It wasn't her in the scene after the launch. It's obvious when "she" gets out of the porta-potty at the end. It's someone else. It's on Youtube if anyone wants to see it and see that it's a put-on and not her. She certainly was a good sport to take part in the bit.
Dave, you should be proud of your blog, instead of feeling bad. I admire your effort to provide us with the best achievable quality of live recordings. I recently told a colleague about your site. Keep up the good work, and please continue your blog.

Stop when you want to stop. But, please don't do it in reaction to foolish school marms who don't think before they tsk and blow hard. Truth is I didn't like the post, and thought it was more than out of the ordinary for the blog, but I didn't judge you, or freak out. I just chose not to pay it much attention. I don't have anything against Brittany; I think it's just that I have little children, and the sad drama that played out in front of her children a year or so ago just made me squeamish.
The joy you have spread, and the educational value, musical and otherwise, you have imparted, will stand either way. But, here's a very strong vote to ignore the bastards!GFS

I have never posted here before, but have enjoyed your site for more than a year. I can understand your frustration. Dealing with the general public is an exercise in patience, and without a generous amount of ability to laugh off the jerks who will appear and try to tear down what you have done, you will get those days that you will think, "why am I doing this ?"
I appreciate your efforts on my behalf, and love the music you have given me. Maybe a little while off will do you good. If you decide to quit this blog, do it because it's no longer fun for you, not because jerks got to you. Don't let them win. Illegitimi non carborundum, or whatever the saying is !

Take a few days off and forget about the comments - it's so easy for folks to be abusive online. Your blog is fascinating and is, in a way, a real archive of music in the last 40 something years.
Anywhere there is a comment section there is going to be "those guys." I often read comment sections elsewhere and occasionally lose all faith in humanity.
This is a terrific site that has brightened my day many times over. You do an amazing job sharing. Your true fans know it's selfless and we want you to keep on doing it...if you enjoy it. I'm going to make a tiny donation. Hopefully more in the future.

I'm not going to comment on the post as I didn't see it and wouldn't bother even if you put it up again. It has always seemed to me that this blog is for real music fans by a real music fan. As a regular visitor to your 'comments' sections I know how many people really believe in you and this place and I cannot believe that any regular user would be so impulsive and reactionary in their response, regardless of their feelings about it. It would be a shame if some casual visitors were allowed to spoil something that's been so good for so long. That said, this is a labour of love and only you can make that call. Just know you have our appreciation and respect for what you have built here regardless of your final decision.

Anybody who complains about your posting boots needs to be aware that "bootleg" CD's never gave a dime to the artist. I knew a gentleman who was involved in the creation of a few that are on here & don't believe he had a real job for quite a while... his entire existence revolved in collecting material to put up for sale. He was pure scum.
Your blog does a service in providing a method of distribution that eliminates those who look to profit off the work of others.

But I do have a comment about how terrific your site is. It is probably the best music blog on the NET, which is saying a lot. Your posts bring a lot of joy to the true fans!

By now I'd hope you would know the very high regard that people who appreciate good live music hold you in. Honestly it saddens me that so few people seem to take the time to let you know. When you can get hundreds of responses when you ask people what is best for them (such as when RS was busy shooting themselves in the ass) but those same people can't or don't spend a few seconds to a minute writing some comment about the incredible shows that they are getting for free. Know though that what you do is appreciated tremendously by me.
A couple of years ago I discovered the incredible wealth of live music that was available out on the internet. While I do visit several sites on a daily basis, yours quickly became my first stop in the morning (even before checking my email) just to see what my afternoon's listening would be. It was a rare day indeed that there wasn't at least something new that I hadn't heard before from a group that I enjoy. On those rare days I always have the large archive of music that I've accumulated to fall back on.
My point (& there is one eventually) is that I just scroll by those things that don't interest me. I don't give it a second thought as to why you wanted to post something by them, I just get on with my day. I did notice the video that you posted of BS, but liking neither her nor Jackass I just scrolled past it. The people that have nothing better to do with their lives than complain about this site that costs them nothing & gives them an incredible amount of entertainment are losers of the highest order. Just ignore them, they honestly aren't worth your time. You know that you did nothing wrong, that should be enough.
I sincerely hope that you don't decide to shut down (but please contact me if you do decide that as I would like to talk to you nonpublicly). If you do, I'll understand as it is tough to do something so big for seemingly so little appreciation. However I hope that the people who take so much from here would bother to let you know that they do appreciate your work.

What may be unfortunate is that it has taken until now for many frequent visitors to thank you as well. So I hope that this will show you what an impact you have made in people's lives.

Britney Spears is another one of those 'pretty people' who are celebrated for being. Not doing. Her very presence cheapens your blog. That's what I think. Reporting you for posting her goes over the top, however. On that you have my complete understanding, agreement and support. I have been coming here at least twice daily for 2-1/2 years and I think I'm qualified to say that you run a good real blog here. The best one on the web, in my humble opinion. And I know them high and low. Don't change a thing (other than your musical and acting taste in this particular fillet of live sushi)

I've been trying to recover downloads that I lost when my hard drive crashed. They were mostly downloaded from another site through the last 3 years. A lot of them are no longer seeded there. Even though I've downloaded a few from you over the years, I realized about two weeks ago that you have a lot of those I lost here, so I was overjoyed that I would be able to salvage quite a few thanks to you! Now my worst nightmare is if you decide to close this blog. What's weird is I had a creepy feeling today that with my bad luck that I might run out of time to recover everything from your site because "what if the links stop working, or the site disappears". I'm usually just paranoid and almost never clairvoyant. Hopefully my hope that you keep this site going is just as powerful in your mind as some dick/dickette threatening you over some public domain vid. At the very least if you stop, can you at least leave the archived boots and links up? Pretty please :).

I have wanted to write a comment like this for some time, but something has always held me back. Now seems an appropriate time.
I discovered your site when I was in college 5 years ago and have visited regularly since then (usually everyday). I go for myself, and my Dad (who is basically computer illiterate) and I get shows and outtakes for the both us.
You’ve provided me a way to experience a world of live shows that I never got to see (not having been alive say when Derek and the Dominos toured in ‘70 ). And for my Dad it has been a way to hear shows and outtakes from artists who’s entire catalogues of studio releases he knows like the back of his hand, and who’s live shows he went to when he was my age.
My Dad’s excitement when I gave him the Buffalo Springfield reunion concert you posted could hardly be contained. And you should have seen how happy he was when he was able to hear a show from the Stills Young Band tour that was cancelled part way through (he had bought a ticket to one of shows that was cancelled).
He’s even forced himself to learn more about computers so that he could use your site. My Dad types with one finger at a time, but he sat me down and made me explain (over the course of several hours and many troubleshooting phone calls since) how to use your site so that he could enjoy it independently.
You have helped my Dad and I share an incredible amount of music over the last several years. It would be criminally negligent of me to have never written to you with my gratitude (as my clicks on your ads are rather anonymous). Regardless of whether you choose to end it on Sunday or not, I just wanted you to know how grateful I am for the music you've shared. Thank you Dave.

Hi! Thanks for having a great blog. By "ND", I'm guessing you live in North Dakota? This site is the first music site I check every day and you post a lot of great stuff, but for your own mental and physical health, I encourage you to get outside and relish whatever sunlight is available. I've tried this for the last two weekends and the effect on my psyche has been all positive. The longer a break you take, the better you'll feel, and the more the boneheads will learn to love and miss what you provide.

I posted a VERY small fraction of what you post and did it for a VERY small faction of time compared to you. I burned out. I was starting a new relationship and other things and it just started to be too much pressure to post all the time.
I got taken down. I think that maybe I sabotaged my blog in a way, maybe on purpose. I don't really know.
I can tell you that I have enjoyed what you have freely shared with me all these years and will continue to enjoy it forever.
Cut yourself some slack friend. Slow down some. You have probably given more on the Rock front than than any other "individual" out there.
Give yourself permission to stop if you are unhappy.
Maybe take a break for a while and come back to it to see if it is still as satisfying.

For those that like Britney Spears or feel offended by anything posted here, you are always free to go elsewhere. It is a big Internet and one website does not fit all. Dave and friends are doing "everyone" a great service by posting rare music that can not (and in most cases will never) be obtained commercially. If the artist made it available, I would certainly buy it, it is that worthwhile. As an aside, Dave's postings have turned me on to many artists to which I never would have been exposed, and I buy their commercially available works due to these previews.

Hi Dave. Your blog is the best, most respected blog I've ever seen in our field of bootleg sharing. I've often noticed you make a special effort to keep it upstanding and respectable. And I thank you for that.
As far as the Brittney deal goes, I never saw it and have no idea what it is even about. But I trust that if you put it out for others t see, then there was probably some humor in it that many got and a few might not have. And the fact you took it down after the reported complaints shows you were respectful of a few offended people even though you didn't necessarily agree with their point of view. That shows your character and thoughtfulness to me too.
I hope that a few angry (or whatever they were) people and their comments do not cause you to stop with your blog. I hope that those who either didn't object or even know of the post, and those of us who are forever thankful for your hard, time consuming, and costly (to you) efforts to keep us happy with the music of our lives don't have to pay for the insults or complaints of what I'd guess was a minority of your blog's followers.
Either way, whether you continue on or stop with your blog, I want to personally thank you for the years of great music and excellent uploads you've shared with us.

When you posted Supertramp, Bern, 1972 (a live recording from this early lineup was something I wanted for ages but didn't think even existed), my eyes virtually popped out of my head. It was a dream come true.
It would be sad to see you close this site down. But I also appreciate the dedication and time you have given this site and you have provided me so much already.

So I would argue do not take it personal, it happens to all of us and do continue the beautiful work. To me it is an everyday surprise and true enrichment. It's rare anyone cites former NBA player Charles Barkley as a voice of reason, but I'll attempt to do just that.
Yesterday, in reference to just announced Naismith College Basketball Player of the year Jimmer Fredette, Barkely said something to the affect that 10% of fans are morons, and the rest are great. He was referring to when Fredette was taken out of the last college basketball game of his career, and the fans of both teams gave him a standing ovation.
It's likely 10% of the visitors of this blog are morons, and it's too bad such a small number of fans generate such enormous headaches for you. Sad to say, they likely won't go away.
Consider that, while you're going through the process of dealing with that nonsense, the other 90%, literally thousands, greatly appreciate and value the time you sacrifice and the music you gift us daily.
Selfishly, I hope you decide to continue with this thing. You've made my 80 mile commute to/from work bearable. However, if you don't I'll consider your decision reasonable, and wish you nothing but the best.

To have doubts, to question ones one legitimacy, one's role in life is a natural process of being challenged, growing and moving forward. I have traveled the world for many years - on business (ha, hem, clears throat, I am a lawyer myself :-))) - and concluded that there are many more good and honest folks out there than those who "tear down", criticize and complain; they are in the minority. I talk to many folks, my family (they know you by name) about your blog, your service to music, to make available rare recordings to those of us who are interested, engaged, supportive, moreover, those of us that have dozens of official releases by the very bands and artists that appear on your blog. That record company's, executives or recalcitrant artists don't make these recordings available to their fans, which we are, we have paid our way, id their problem not ours. Meaning you provide a difference in peoples lives, to experience concerts they would never have been able to go to, to listen to music that they would never otherwise have heard .... all makes a difference, to us. Another blog lover who has never posted a comment here. I own every legal Pink Floyd album on CD, but your blog has introduced me to a whole new world of live recordings. It's been great to discover all these live and demo versions of my favorite band.
I totally missed the whole Britney thing, and hope that all these positive comments from your many fans have cheered you up a little. Don't worry about some tools who decided to give you some trouble. Just post the music you enjoy (while you enjoy doing it!) If you do decide to quit, thanks so much for having such an amazing blog. I love(d) it!
