Frank Zappa: The Unlucky 1982 Concerts (3 Diff. Audience) FLAC

1982 was one of the best tours for Frank, but also it was one where most concerts were interrupted by riots, or other incidents: in Milano people threw lots of things on stage (but the concert was not ended), after the soundcheck they cancelled the show on Lille, because the acoustic was terrible, lots of other show momentarily interrupted because people throwing things (but then resumed), but those three are a particular exception.

Now first of all, even if Flambay's original info file rated the sound as "B/B-", the rating was WAY too harsh (maybe he was thinking of the other source?), and this is an excellent sounding tape. This is also the shortest show Zappa ever played.
The show starts unusually with "Sofa" (an opener without a guitar solo!!), which is very well played and Vai is expecially good. "Sofa" segues perfectly into "Montana", which is interrupted at the beginning ("Don't throw things! Understand?") but then resumed. I've never been a fan of the 1982 version of the song (the 1973 versions were way better) and this is no exception, even though I have to admit I like the guys who sing the song at the right channel. It's... how can I say? Enthusiastic!
"Montana" segues into "Easy Meat", but after the classical section the band stops playing and goes off-stage.
The reason for this was because it started raining... VERY heavily, and it was impossible to continue the show. The tape ends with a desperate fan screaming "Aaah... Scheisse!!"". On with selection number two!

Note that usually this show circulates as 30th June, but it looks like it was played the day after. Another very short Zappa show. This time the sound quality is very, very weak, but at least you can figure what the band is playing. Many songs were used in the second disk of YCDTOSA5: "Easy Meat", "Dead Girls Of London", "Shall We Take Ourselves Seriously", "Moggio" and the Geneva farewell (complete from this show) and "What's New In Baltimore", "Dancing Fool" and "RDNZL" combined with other performances.
Neverthless, the "Easy Meat" solo was edited on the official release, and you don't mind hear it complete here, do you?
"What's New In Baltimore" and "Moggio" shows the ability of Zappa's band in performing the show, and Vai, Wackerman and Thunes expecially shine!
This was to be one of the very best "RDNZL", but after a couple of minutes the music stops. Too many people threw things on stage and Zappa wasn't pleased. Also someone threw a cigarette onstage, and Zappa wants him to be removed from the concert. People kept threwing things and the person is not found so "houselights, the concert's over" (as you can hear on YCDTOSA5, but unedited here). And unfortunately it's true. Bummer, this started as a very solid concert. A delightful note: the guy speaking in French ("Cherchez les personnes qui jettaient les cigarettes sur l'étage, s'il vous plaît...") is said to be Bobby Martn. Is this true? We'll ask Bob himself!

Last show of the tour, last disaster. The Italian leg of the 1982 tour is famous among traders because it's the best part of the tour and it's captured on all great sounding tapes. This one starts as a great show, just like the others from the Italian leg. "Mammy Anthem" is as we hear it on YCDTOSA 1, but it was slightly edited there. The "RDNZL" performance is a highlight of the night, because it starts as a slower tempo unlike the others, and contains a damn good solo by Zappa. "Advance Romance" is definitely great too, and it's good to hear "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee" sung by Bobby Martin (instead of Ike Willis, who was absent this tour). "The Black Page" is a pretty good performance, but as we all know from YCDTOSA3, on "Cocaine Decisions" the trouble starts: some people broke a door into the Stadium and started to run towards the stage and the police started to tear gas granades to the audience (or this is as is believed, rumours said that police started doing this without reason), and "Cocaine Decision" is interrupted. Zappa kept playing, and the taper stays into the stadium 'till half of "King Kong" (but the sound quality degenerates as the audience screams and insults the police). When the taper evacuates we can hear a very short "Marqueson's Chicken" (one of the better songs of the tour... killed this way, pity) and "Sofa". Barry Miles in his book (which I don't absolutely recommend, because it can be a bit annoying for Miles' own comments) says there were 3 dead people at this show. This is very wrong: a lot of injured people, but no one, fortunately died.
