OU Notes: mmm not really an excellent recording, but the performance is better than what you can probably expect from a few circulating recording like this. The audience is pretty excited too.
Sounds as sourced from a low generation tape since it's enough bright, though a bit hissy and at times distorted. the speed is not always right ... again I dunno why but I catch it always on Pigs (bah).
Money has serious speed problems, seems like from a different source, but it's not ... I guess it sounds not so well just because of the taper changing of place between the end of the show and he beginning of the encore and almost certainly because of problems with the recorder’s batteries. oh, well better this way than nothing at all.
the "California Pigs" RoIO is hardly circulating reporting this date but it's really Frankfurt 27 Jan. 77
Waters screeches 30-10 at 13.49 (3rd verse) on Pigs (3DO) someone suppose it sounds rather as 32 ..

OU: I've always regretted that I never saw The Who up close. I was certainly no stranger to the scalpers, and easily could have paid my way into the first few rows. I really have no excuse. As a result, this recording sounds a bit distant, which
is what happens when you sit all the way across the arena. This was the last of the five performances by The Who at Madison Square Garden in September 1979. It was also the night that The Who stopped playing in the middle of "My Wife" when a fight broke out in front of the stage. Also of interest, Townshend presented Daltrey with a guitar after "The Real Me" for his guitar-work the previous evening when Pete had injured his hand. The Who rocked the crowd with a commanding performance this night. We couldn't have known it then, but it would be almost 17 years until they would return to Madison Square Garden.

This is an improved source to the two remasters which came from an earlier KRW_CO transfer ~2005, prior to a fresh KRW_CO
transfer from the original Maloney Master in 2007:
Changes made (Nero 8)
- Converted to true mono, using better sounding right channel (disk 1) and left channel (disk 2)
- Fixed the tape flip at 10:27 on Track03 seamlessly joined original Track04 (at 10.27 if you're interested)
- Fixed the rough transition between tracks 04 & 05
- Fixed the applause cut between tracks 13 & 14
- Fixed more than 2000 volume fluctuations
- Very slight EQ, +1dB bass & +2dB treble, much less than you can do with amp tone controls
- Added flac tags for digital streamer replay, note altering files in any way will destroy these
- Minor re-tracking

Quality: Worth an "historic" A+ as (IMHO) possibly the best sounding recording from 1973

OU: The PRRP from the 2005 rip remaster was recently posted elsewherehere and I was surprised it sounded inferior compared to the raw new 2007 rip. PRRP omitted removed the Dime info credit plus crucially the fact that the recording is mono so the only audio information they were remastering.
As with many old recordings on this tape deck, the left and right channels extracted on a stereo deck sound slightly different, so I've restored it back to true mono using the better sounding of the channels (right on CD1 and left on CD2) and then fixed the constantly varying volume level plus a few other fixes.
For me now, this is IMHO the very best quality recording from the 1973 tour.

Time to try a few more reups.

Hi Friends,
In the short time that this blog has been up I have single-handedly posted over 6600 boots - many on two or more servers.
When Megaupload disappeared so did the redundancy factor for a huge number of my posts.
I have tried to reup several over the last few days and I will try to continue to reup as I am able.

Freddie King: Fillmore West 1970 (Soundboard) FLAC

This is the great Freddie King that I got in a CDR trade around 10 years ago. I don't know the lineage except that it sounds like a soundboard. Freddie is hot as usual and this is a great addition to to any Freddie collection. This is recorded at the Fillmore West on 9-3-1970. Personnel unknown. This could be both sets because he does Have You Ever Loved A Woman twice.

Notes: As the Monkees ill-fated 1997 UK reunion tour wound to a close, they were really firing on all cylinders as a band by the time they arrived in Bournemouth. I've read that these shows were absolutely panned by the British press - why, I have no idea.
I think everyone of these shows is absolutely entertaining and they stand as a vindication of the Monkees' genuine talent as a rock 'n roll band. As Micky Dolenz has said, it's as though Leonard Nimoy actually became a vulcan!
The sound quality is amongst the best of the 1997 UK tapes, though, still not stellar. A solid 'B+'.

"Alright guys. I think i've stumbled across a rare gem that no one out there has or has heard.
Our drummer showed played me a cassette tape of Power Windows in its entirety before it was even taken to the recording studio. That's right, sort of like a pre power windows personal recording of Alex's.
Now, he says that he's probably the only one who has it, and here's why.
Apparently a friend of his was walking downtown in Toronto, and Alex Lifeson's son had this tape, and was shouting out, "listen to my dads new album power windows!!" etc. And this friend of my drummers was given the tape by lifesons son, and then gave it to our drummer since he knew he was a hardcore Rush fan.
So now our drummer has this tape, and he's certain that no one else has it, so I wanted to check in with you guys to see if anyone else out there has it, and whether or not its worth it to make it public.
For the record, he played the tape for me, and I listened to manhattan project, and he wasnt lying. Completely different arrangements and a nice home made sound to recording. It's like sitting in the house with them while they jam. Quite amazing.
So he's going to back it up to CD, and give me a copy, and i'll make it public for you all to hear if this is something that no one knows of. So let me know.
This isnt one of those lame threads of someone just making up BS for something to do. I wouldn't yank your chains. This thing is real, and im willing to share it with you guys if you wanna hear it. I'm gonna stay on him and make sure he puts it to CD for me."

We really enjoyed this show and of note, Peter had his old #1 guitar from the 70's returned recently (Les Paul) and it sounded sweet when he made it sing. Enjoy the recording folks!

OU Comments: In my opinion, Simon seems to be somewhat down in the dumps, not his normal energetic self here, but regardless, this is a fantastic recording focusing mostly on the 'Medazzaland' album, with a few hits sprinkled into the setlist. There are 4 additional bouns tracks which were recorded at Privacy Studios in London, but I've opted not to include them here as I'm not sure that they were ever commercially released. I don't believe they were, but better safe than sorry.

Original notes: This was the 258th upload of my concerts collection recorded in Lyon (France) between 1982-1990.
MY BLOODY VALENTINE, irish band based in London, were recorded at le Truc[k] of Lyon-Vénissieux on march 1989. I was using a very basic system for recording:
soundboard outputs + a couple of ambiance mikes (Sennheiser) standing in front of the scene mixed, on-the-fly, with headphones on 4-tracks desk to a Sony cassette TDC5M .

OU Notes: My friend Julien let me use his Nakamichi DR-3 (God bless him !!) , cause my old tape reader died definitively .... I'm currently trying to numerise all the last tapes from my old boxes as quick as possible since some days ... But, i took a break, in my slave work, with this new numerisation of "My Bloody Valentine" Lyon tape. First upload on Dime on february 2008 (LTC #268), i was really amazed by the number of uploads and comments !
I must admit (sorry...) that this band is not my cup of tea ...and sincerely, i tought my recording was completely failed cause the voices are very blurred in the mix ... But no, it's the way they sound ... So, enjoy it !!! for the second time ....

A good recording (even if I do say so myself) - couple of stupid girls behind me shouting that they found Simon Le Bon "hot" but other than that a nice calm audience
no clipping (except the clapping at certain points - but I kept the levels nice and high to capture the sound better.

OU: I think I have something really special to share with all [you], but first a bit of background. RLR has been a very active trader back in the early 80´s with very wide musical tastes: he could go from Kiss to Joni Mitchell; from Genesis to Deep Purple, Queen, Simple Minds, The Who, Springsteen and many more. In the part I could access his enormous collection to get many U2 tapes some of which I have been sharing with you folks.
RLR had all sorts of tapes in his collection, traded not long after the show happened so most of them are low generation, in particular tons of shows recorded in Italy which to me are some of the most interesting. Some of them, I had never seen circulating in the trading circuit. Unfortunately he did not care about generation so this info, except for the shows he
has as masters, is not available.
RLR has kindly given me access once again to his collection. It was like a "kid in a toy shop" situation: it was hard to select tapes and at the end I came home with some 250 tapes to listen and eventually to transfer in the digital domain. Some of them will be shared here, possibly the most interesting ones.
As a follow-up of the previous Siouxsie show in Milano, here is the 1984 appearance. By then the band was not a cult band playing small clubs but ready to play the bigger venues and the Teatro Tenda was the venue a band of a certain status used to play in town. The recording is very very good indeed, despite being a recording from nearly 30 years ago. To my point of view by 1985 the band stopped to be innovative and started to be a bit repetitive, so I guess this is somehow their peak. Enjoy! -ldb
