OU: Another recording from the "Drive Till You Die" tour that captures the boys in the Scotland. The sound is pretty good, a bit distant but you can still hear all the instruments clearly. The concert on a whole is very listenable, especially at high volumes. For some reason shows like this sound better loud than at low volume levels. There isn't an excessive amount of tape hiss, so the highs are quite clear and accurate. The dynamic range and stereo separation overall have been increased
during remastering to improve the listenability of the recording.
There are a few AFtK tour recordings available, but this one of the best I've come across yet. If you're looking for a show from this tour, this is the show is a good choice, so is Sound and Fury.

Review from Underground Uprising: Listen To This, Eddie (Empress Valley EVCD 260/261/262) 3CDs in a card gatefold sleeve
Just when you thought that you had heard the definitive, most complete and best sounding version of this legendary concert (the recent Wendy Records Listen To This, Eddie), Empress Valley pull it off yet again. Released on 24 December 2003, I received it on New Year's Eve. The discs have the greeting: 'Merry X'mas & A Happy New Year' on them. The sound on this new release is quite simply mind blowingly stunning full stereo audience recording. This might not appeal to everyone as clearly Empress Valley have applied a lot of EQ on Mike Millard's already stunning sounding original recording. For this latest release Empress Valley used the same first generation, speed corrected cassette to DAT transfer that was originally used for Silver Rarities excellent Listen To This Eddie Master Series release. The Silver Rarities was a straight transfer to CD, without any EQ. Technology has of course advanced incredibly in recent years and it is amazing what can be done with an audio tape recording these days. However one man's EQ is another man's poison. It is all a matter of taste. That said this is a really lovely production. The well known cut in Ten Years Gone has been neatly filled using an alternate source tape, on Disc 2 track 1, from 06.34 to 06.48. There is no cut between the end of the Guitar Solo and Achilles Last Stand. The packaging is extremely nice too. Empress Valley have adopted the original Rock Solid Records vinyl release Listen To This, Eddie for their front cover of the gatefold card sleeve. At the top of this is the logo: 'NEW IMPROVED FULL DIMENSIONAL STEREO'. Disc one is housed in the left sleeve, and discs two and three are inside the right sleeve. There is also an obi, black Japanese characters on a white background. The price is also most reasonable. In addition to the regular release there were 50 Promo copies released. On the front cover of the gatefold card slipcase is a photo of Jimmy from Chicago 6 April 1977 in the German Army uniform. The rest of the packaging is nearly identical, but this rarity will be much sought after by collectors. All in all a really lovely production from Empress Valley, and hopefully the last version to be released by anyone. As this is now my eighth version of this legendary concert, I certainly hope so! (Jules McTrainspotter Jan 04)
Listen To This, Eddie-Full Dimensional Stereo Sound. This release really offers a metallic KO, many have tried and made claims about the complete and definitive version, but this one really hits you right in the chest. Don't be fooled by fools! is what I've been told, when asking about different versions of this show. They all from the same tape, and don't pay to have someone EQ it for you. Well, that might be-BUT, I don't have this technology at home-this one is that different. The most complete, best sounding and hopefully the last version of this great audience recording. (meimnoone,2004)
Well well well, this now my third version of this legendary show. I also own the Definitive Complete Version from Jelly Roll and the first Version from Empress Valley. But this version here, called the Christmas Edition pips them all away. It's simply awesome!!! The sound is crystal clear and it is a full dimensional stereo sound. Like other EV Releases the EQ of this release is very high, but the high EQ is the reason for the crystal clear sound. And he's not so high like in the first version from EV! This release is a MUST HAVE for any serious collector who wants a very good sounding show and a really great concert from Led Zeppelin.... Get it, if you have the chance! (Moll Drummer Feb 04)

Pink Floyd: BBC Archives 1974 (HRV CDR 033 Pre-FM!) FLAC

This would definitely be one of my "Top Ten" Floyd boots. RE-UP by request
This is the real deal tested and verified. This is an absolutely must have for any Floyd fan out there!

Liner notes:
In the spirit of our previous "BBC Archives" series (after "BBC Archives 1967-1969" and "BBC Archives 1970-1971"), Harvested is proud to finally present "BBC Archives 1974"! In 1974, the BBC taped the second set (The Dark Side On The Moon) and the encore (Echoes) of the Floyd performance at Wembley Empire Pool, on November 16. However, Echoes was never broadcast, and for many years only the DSOTM set was circulating from broadcast sources.
In recent years, recordings taken from the BBC pre-FM tapes began to circulate, some of them including the long lost soundboard version of Echoes. However, none of these RoIOs are fully sonically satisfactory in our opinion. Most of them are processed and used some kind of noise reduction, sometimes very slightly (the Sirene releases), and other times more heavily (the Winston remasters, "Time In London") The rare, unprocessed versions currently circulating, like the "FM Pre-Master" Russian bootleg, are pleasant but not without a certain amount of hiss, which reveals that the lineage was not without some generational loss. The hiss from the unprocessed versions available until now is probably one of the reasons why so much NR was used on the various remaster projects.
After much research, Harvested found a superior source, totally unprocessed, with much less hiss than the other unprocessed versions circulating until now. A spectral analysis of the audio file showed that this source was very pure and could be the result of direct transfer from the BBC masters.
However, it is well known that the BBC mastering of that concert sounds rather dry and flat, especially the DSOTM set and our source was no exception. Therefore, we felt this new source needed the "Harvested treatment," in order to make this recording really shine, with good dynamics. The remastering was done very carefully in an attempt to leave the music intact, avoiding NR, dehissing, or any other processing that would generate artifacts. The majority of the remastering work consisted of adjusting the audio levels, balancing the recording when needed, and bringing more clarity and depth by applying specific EQ settings here and there. The final result sounds great to our ears and this version boasts excellent dynamics and a well defined high end without the flaws present on most of the other sources. This CD is free from all NR artifacts, the amount of hiss is minimal, and the low frequency noise that can be clearly heard on all of the currently circulating versions of Echoes (especially during the quiet parts) is not present here.
"BBC Archives 1974" brings you this famous BBC recording in its most complete form (the lines,"I've been mad for f*cking years...," as well as the applause and tuning between Eclipse and Echoes are present), offering the best possible quality for your listening pleasure! "
Enjoy!
The Harvested Team.

Dave's Note: I own at least 15 versions of this show. This is the best quality version of this date available - period. The only valid criticism that has been entertained is that there is EXTREMELY little crowd noise. It is almost as though you are listening to the Floyd replay their DSOTM album in a closed studio. I don't see any problem enjoying it this way but if you need crowd noise there are several audience and pre-fm/aud matrix versions posted for this wonderful night on the blog as well!

BIG Led Post tomorrow.

As many other fans, I downloaded this beauty and wanted to burn a CDR from it. But before burning it, I chose to normalise the levels and to clean some crackles at the
beginning of Breathe. For my own listening pleasure.
On the morning of July 3, I shared my version to some close friends (Ron, Breathe ...) who hadn't downloaded enajh2 torrent yet.
All credits should go to enajh2. This is simply his recording, with normalisation and some crackles manually removed.
Note that, since I didn't archive my version in 2005, the present FLAC files were generated from an EAC rip of my CDR.
Enjoy!

The sound is slightly better than the Swingin' Pig versions of these shows. The artwork is generally the same as the original vinyl, though improved. Rumored to be taken from a fairly official source in Norway. There is a slight drop out approximately 17:00 into Atom Heart Mother. A note in the cover says: "We have used a low generation master tape to get the best possible sound. We do however apologise for the "dropout" on "Careful w/that axe....". This was due to a fault on the original master."

Storm's WYWH Film

Taken from http://just-add-cones.blogspot.com/2010/01/storms-wywh-film.html The most diverse Floyd blog on the web.
Snapshot003
From just-add-cones.blogspot.com: Ten years ago, Storm Thorgerson Produced & Directed an internet-only film to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Floyd's album Wish You Were Here. At the time, I worried that it would soon be removed from the host web pages & we would lose it entirely. Happily, however, some enterprising young souls found a means of capturing it for posterity. Everyone (hopefully) has a little gem in their collection that they go back to over and over - and this one is mine. I am an unabashed Storm Thorgerson fan. I've often said that if I could meet any member of Pink Floyd, I would pick Storm Thorgerson. That dream came true one fair evening in 2007. He gave me a nice smile and several kind words.

Unknow AUD Recording > ? > DAT > SHN
This is likely off cassette masters.

Tech Notes: SHNs were decoded to wave and SF 6.0 was used to reassemble the tracks back to 1 long wave. CEP2.0 was used to align & synch the SBD & AUD sources. CEP2.0 used to adjust the volume for the SBD, AUD, center and LFE channels. Surcode CD Pro DTS was used to encode to DTS.

More On DTS: Today's audio standards are moving towards multi-channel sound, like DTS and Dolby Digital. While the Audio-CD standard (Red Book) hasn't changed to accommodate these new sound formats, it is still possible to go around the specification and to put a 5.1 surround recording on a regular Audio-CD. To play a DTS-Audio-CD you must connect your DVD/CD player via a digital cable (optical or coaxial) to your DTS Dolby-Digital receiver. It is not 100% sure that your receiver will recognize a DTS-Audio CD, so the first time you're trying to playback a DTS-Audio-CD you must do a test to determine if it can. Begin with the volume very low, start the disc and raise the volume gradually. NEVER listen to a DTS-Audio-CD through the analog audio outputs of your CD/DVD player.

Qween: Stuttgart 1984 (VG+ Aud Master) FLAC

This is the pre-bootleg audience master!
qn1-2
another genuine weizman master - 25 YEARS AGO

Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle
1984-09-27

Lineage: Aiwa CM30 > Aiwa HS-F1 > Compact Cassettes (2 x TDK SA C90)
Cassette master > Aiwa HS-F1 > Zoom H2 > SD-Card Reader > harddisc > Soundforge 9.0d (track splitting, fades) > TLH (flac level 8, sb aligned)

OU: I did a couple of analogue trades back in the day and somehow the recording got into the hands of some bootleggers who manufactured a 3LP set named DYNASTY from it.
So this is the master for DYNASTY - first transfer to digital from the original master cassettes.
Includes "Is This The World We Created?" and "Love Of My Life" which were omitted from the 3LP set (maybe the bootleggers left them out because both tracks are incomplete on the master).

Here you'll get two versions:
1) Only the tracks which come from the master cassettes. That means "Is This The World We Created?" and "Love Of My Life" are incomplete. Simply use tracks 01 to 16 from the folder "CD1" for CD-burning.
2) If you want to have the complete show use tracks 01 to 14, 15a and 16a from the folder "CD1" for CD-burning. I patched the missing parts from an alternate recording of the show (1st gen) using Soundforge 9.0d for the crossfades. (Don't ask me for the alternate source - I only got these two songs from it.)

Disc 1
01. Machines (Tape)
02. Tear It Up
03. Tie Your Mother Down
04. Under Pressure
05. Somebody To Love
06. Killer Queen
07. Seven Seas Of Rhye

12. Mustapha (tease)
13. Dragon Attack
14. Now I'm Here
15. Is This The World We Created?*
16. Love Of My Life*

Disc 2
01. Stone Cold Crazy
02. Great King Rat
03. Keyboard Solo
04. Guitar Solo
05. Brighton Rock (Reprise)
06. Another One Bites The Dust
07. Hammer To Fall
08. Crazy Little Thing Called Love
09. Saturday Night's All Right For Fighting
10. Bohemian Rhapsody
11. Radio Ga Ga
12.
13. I Want To Break Free

The Doobie Brothers: Memphis 1975 (Ex Soundboard) FLAC

front
Mid-South Coliseum
Memphis, TN
Oct. 8, 1975
Soundboard recording (quite possibly pre-FM)
Boot title: Rockin' Down In Memphis (OH BOY 1-9118)
Note: This show is commonly mislabeled as coming from The Showboat (Memphis, TN), Oct. 31, 1975 but the date above is the correct one.

TheCommish notes: This is perhaps the ULTIMATE Doobies show to have in one's collection. In fact, many of us already have this show and can vouch for the QUALITY of both the sound and performance.
Taken from KBFH broadcast recording. Inspired by the huge commercial success of WHAT WERE ONCE VICES ARE NOW HABITS album, the band delivered such a powerful and tight performance throughout the states. It's a tremendous loss for them (and US!) not to release the live album from this period officially... Enjoy!
Artwork is also included.

Tracklist:
01. Jesus Is Just Alright
02. Rockin' Down The Highway
03. Road Angel
04. South City Midnight Lady
05. Eyes Of Silver
06. Black Water
07. Long Train Runnin'
08. China Grove
09. Without You

Lineage: Silver CD --> xACT (secure) --> Wav --> Flac (level 6) (except tracks 02 and 03--see below)
Editing notes (by TheCommish): I grabbed this particular FLAC fileset when it was shared on DIME by nobby3 in June 2007, and, for the most part, this torrent includes the FLAC files downloaded from nobby3.
HOWEVER, for this new torrent I decided to fix the dreadful track split that existed between tracks 02/03 on the previous version (the previous track 02 included "Rockin' Down The Highway" and a good portion of "Road Angel"--before splitting tracks--with the rest of "Road Angel" continuing in track 03). I accomplished this as follows: (1) used Traders Little Helper to convert the two "bad" FLAC files (track 02 and 03) into WAV files, (2) used Audacity to combine both WAV files into a larger WAV file, (3) used CD Wave to split the combined WAV file at the correct track points, and (4) used Traders Little Helper to re-convert the 2 resulting WAV files back into FLAC files (aligned on sector boundaries).
I also renamed track 06 from "Blackwater" to "Black Water", and I added an apostrophe to the song title for track 07.

Bandmembers:
Patrick Simmons - Guitars, Vocals
Jeff "Skunk" Baxter - Guitars, Pedal steel, Vocals
Tiran Porter - Bass
Michael McDonald - Keyboards, Vocals
John Hartman - Drums
Keith Knudsen - Drums, Percussion, Vocals

Special Guest - The Memphis Horns
Wayne Jackson, Andrew Love, James Mitchell, Lewis Collins, Jack Hale

Joy Division: Hulme 1979 (Soundboard) FLAC

JoyDivision6
28 Sept 1979 The Factory, Hulme (soundboard)

01 - Twenty Four Hours (detail, soundcheck)
02 - Atmosphere (fades in)
03 - Wilderness
04 - Shadowplay
05 - Insight
06 - Colony
07 - Twenty Four Hours (fades out, incomplete)

OU: Not much to say. Featured today is a previously-unknown (partial) recording of Joy Division's 28 Sept. 1979 gig at the Factory, Hulme, recorded from the mixing desk and presented in lossless FLAC for your pleasure.
This is the legendary gig where Hooky thumped an audience member with his bass and stormed off the stage - unfortunately, this moment is not captured on this recording.
This gig features the original set of lyrics Ian Curtis wrote for "Colony" and as a whole, is stellar sounding. Note that for whatever reason the mixing itself changes from wide stereo to mostly mono (but with effects spread across the stereo soundstage) about halfway through the tape, perhaps the mixing desk guy was having problems with the mix? Who knows but it isn't really noticeable except in headphones, and even then doesn't detract from the gig whatsoever.
Presented warts and all (several slight dropouts here and there, likely due to tape age and/or poor quality tape used in 1979 in the mixing desk), enjoy!
Please note that track 1, the soundcheck track, is not a mixing desk recording, but the gig itself is. Don't let Track 1 fool you....

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.
He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.
Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.
Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.
This transfer is a 16bit/44.1KHz flac files suitable for CD burning.
Always remember - the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you. Kev & Carl June 2009

IQ: Bury 2006 (PRRP Aud Remaster) FLAC

the latest PRRP Release
PRRP052 IQ 2006 09 06 Bury cover
Open Frequency
When drummer Paul Cook announced his unexpected retirement from IQ early in 2005, many feared that his departure might signal the beginning of the end for the band. After all, he had been a longstanding and integral member of IQ since 1982. “I certainly had my doubts and reservations about trying to replace Cookie,” remembers singer Peter Nicholls, “but we felt we owed it to ourselves to at least look for someone else. As it turned out, the audition process was much easier than we’d anticipated. We tried out three drummers and knew straight away that Andy would be great.”
Andy Edwards’ debut appearance with IQ came in July that year at Le Medley in Montreal. His impressive musicianship and relaxed professionalism earned him the immediate respect of every fan in the hall that night. His two follow-up performances, at Nearfest in the USA and the Burg Herzberg festival in Germany (both captured on film and later released on the 'Stage' DVD) would show the world that he was more than just an adequate replacement, bringing his own distinctive style to IQ’s live songbook.
Early the following year, IQ set about writing new music for the follow-up to 2004’s 'Dark Matter' album. While the new material was being developed and refined, the band continued touring and, with the 'Dark Matter' tour behind them, they could now afford to shake up the set list. In fact, most of the band's concerts between the end of 2005 and the release of their new album in 2009 saw many changes in the live set. IQ have always been keen to surprise their fans with unexpected tracks on stage and this great show recorded in Bury, Lancashire, England, on September 9th 2006 was no exception to that unwritten rule.
On this short European tour, IQ had dropped most of the 'Dark Matter' material ('Sacred Sound' being the sole survivor) and replaced it with various gems from a more distant past, including such songs as 'Breathtaker', 'Wurensh' and 'Erosion'. They also played a few surprise cards by throwing in two scarcely performed tracks: 'Further Away' and the classic 'The Enemy Smacks'. The former's complex structure has always made it a very demanding song to perform live, while the latter's amazing theatrics ensure that this song is always a welcome, if rare, addition to any set. “‘The Enemy’ is an effective and memorable live track,” Peter explains, “but if we were to play it too often, it would lose some of its impact so it’s good to bring it out every now and then when no-one’s expecting it.”
IQ have always felt very much at home at The Met in Bury, a venue that saw both the premiere and the final British performances of the band's highly acclaimed Subterranea stage show. An IQ touring schedule would not be complete without a stop there. On this night in 2006, the band delivered a top notch performance, an impressive blend of material, old and new, from perennial stage favourites to the rarer tracks.
Once again on this tour, IQ retained their long tradition of playing new material while it was still being written. In the past, these early drafts were often presented without finished titles and they were invariably introduced as 'Newie' or even ‘Newie 2’. This time, however, the two new tracks included in the set were given titles, 'Frequency' and 'Already Gone'. The second of these new tracks would not make it to the final version of the new album, appearing instead on one of two limited edition tour CDs. No-one knew that 'Frequency' was destined to become the title track of the band's next album, or that another major line-up change would occur within IQ before this album would see the light of day. But that is a story for another time...

Always remember - the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you.

Other versions of this show have been posted of this concert before. This is not a re-seed or re-hash of those, but an entirely new upgrade from the master tapes.
On several occasions before he passed away, Millard let a close friend come to his residence and transfer a number of his masters to dat while they were hanging out. This show is one of those master>dat transfers.
This is Mike's mint, raw master. Please note that it has not been equalized or remastered. Since I do not have any boots of this show, I cannot comment on how it compares to them. To me the sound quality is excellent. As many of you already know, Millard's recordings are known for their quality. Hope you enjoy this gem.
