Elvis Presley: Three Missing Soundboards 1970

These are the three missing soundboards from the new That's The Way It Is Complete Works box set. They have never been released by BMG. Why is a mystery as they are wonderful recordings.
They were very kindly copied from the original CDs by a very generous Elvis fan who spent a lot of money to buy this set.
I can't give any more detailed information about the extraction method. Sorry. I have tested the files to make sure they are lossless as some bootleggers can be less than fastidious about such things.

Yes: White Album 1972 (Speed Corrected Vinyl RIP) FLAC

Yes - Mega-rare restored LP "The White Yes Album" Amsterdam 1972-01-21 speed corrected and rejoined - an incredible experience
It is my contention that even if you own this LP... you've never really heard it before.
This Dutch album on Offshore Records is the definitive recording of this show. Forget the CD reissue - I have it, it stinks. Upon listening to this record, I found it to be running noticeably slow. It was pitched by ear on the turntable, resulting in an improvement in the sound quality.
This is one of the best Yes performances around, don't miss it!

OU Notes: Ok, here's the first of the two new Sea of Tunes releases. The booklet says the Gary Usher session is from October 1961 although the back card says 1962. The rest of CD1 is from 1963. CD2 is described in the booklet as: "All tracks from a tape which was recorded by Brian, probably as early as 1960. These recordings are the first recordings made by the Beach Boys."
There's no doubt about it, these recordings are rough. After all, considering the time period and the conditions under which they were made, that should come as no surprise. That said, there's a lot of valuable material here, and the audio quality is good enough to make listening enjoyable. Even if you only listen to it once, there's no denying that this is an historic audio record of the beginning of a major band, and should be in your collection.

Nice FM broadcast from The Police US tour supporting the Roxanne single. That's a full set minus Can't Stand Losing You (played twice) and Truth Hits Everybody. It get cuts off just prior to the band starting the encore. But it sounds warm and its a powerful performance, typical for the band in the late 70's. Sting clearly refers to Buffalo a few times, so no doubt on the venue there.

Flaws: Exact lineage is unknown before it was on cdr prior to the eac extraction. The hiss in this recording suggests that there is at least one or two cassette gens in there somewhere. I ran a slight hiss reduction in the remastering, but removing to much of the hiss would have altered the sonic quality of the overall seed, so a very slight hiss remains.
D1t01: Changes in Latitudes cuts in with the first few seconds missing!
D1t10: Margaritaville cuts in at the beginning and most of the first verse is missing, and then it cuts out again at the end, right in the middle of a verse. AWFUL!!
D2t01: Pirate Looks at 40 cuts in at the beginning. These 2 cuts are absolutely horrible and I considered not seeding this at all due to these horrible cuts. They are truly sinful. But since early Buffett soundboards are impossible to locate, the rest of the material on this recording makes up for the awful cuts in these 2 songs. I split the tracks up so the disc flip would occur in this spot. The cut is not quite as horrible when you need to change discs, but it still sucks big lemon wedges.
Because the cut comes at ~46 minutes into the set, this is likely due to a tape flip on the master, and the taper didn't notice until the tape side was over. Givin the amount of drug references in the songs, I'd be willing to bet the entire crew was wasted, and it's likely that whoever taped this missed the tape flip (to busy doing lines), however, this is purely speculation. The true reason will never be known.
D2T02: Tape flip or other inconsistency a split second before This Hotel Room
Don't let the flaws scare you away. Despite them all, this is an excellent recording of a really good show. Especially good for the era in which is was recorded.

Purple Chick is well known, particularly among Beatles fans, for releasing massive collections of "complete" sets of outtakes. This set is no different. Spanning the time from 1946 to the "Day the Music Died" took ten full CDs, packed with outtakes of the highest quality available.
There's no telling what Buddy Holly might have accomplished if he hadn't gone down with Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. At the time of his death, he was an accomplished songwriter of the calibre of Lennon-McCartney, and covers of his songs are still being done. This set is a fitting tribute to what he was, and what he might have become.

The fifth volume in our 'live series you probably don't even need': the first half of The Beatles' first U.S. tour.
Carefully compiled and restored from the best sources we could find. As always, we didn't just copy the audio from the listed souces - instead, we tried to work some of our patented sonic magic when necessary. Of course, the quality still varies from dire to delightful, but you knew that already.
Here, the Hollywood Bowl concert is the unedited stereo tape. You can find various alternate edits/mixes of this show on Purple Chick's Hollywood Bowl Deluxe Edition, but this is the whole tape. We decided not to give you various audience/newsreel recordings of this (and other shows) if there's a soundboard. Sometimes enough is enough.

These demos have not circulated very widely especially in this quality. Another version has circulated as Brendan Lynch demos however these came from Gavin who has only burned CD's from MP3's so the original quality has probably been lost forever. The good news is that there only two tracks on Gavin's Brendan Lynch demos that are not here (The Baby and A Pair Of Shoes) Both of those tracks show up on other demo sets (Rare Trax '97 & Rare Trax '99 respectively). Also it's important to note that Gavin's Brendan Lynch sessions is a bit of a misnomer because Garry Ford has said that the only songs they did with Brendan Lynch were The Baby, Maybe This Time, Nothings Gonna Take It Away & Love In A Bag (1st demo).

I named this set Ford Era Demos to distinguish it from Gavin's Brendan Lynch demos. I have reason to believe this set is probably only 2 or 3 CD-R copies from the originals. A lot of the tracks on this set are the same as those on the three Rare Trax sets but generally those on this set are better quality.

A brief description of "The RS Archives":
The RS Archive consists of a selection of live recordings made by a great individual who passed away in 2005.
RS worked in the music industry in many capacities….a music fan….a musician….a sound engineer. He was considered one of the best behind the mixing board. I was honored to have known him for practically 35 years.
So now, it is time to honor him by sharing some of the many recordings he made while on the road. All are perfect (or near perfect) soundboard recordings made from the master cassettes or master dat tapes. Unfortunately, I am not able to identify the original equipment these tapes were made on, however I can say that for the transferring process, the cassette tapes were played back on a Nakamichi CR-7A, and the dat tapes on a Sony PCM-R500. They were all burnt onto cdr using a HHB CDR-850.

207.19 & 214 (Cobra, 4cd), Good Evening Seattle (Magnificent Disc, 4cd), Hammer of the Gods (LSD, 4cd and Tarantura, 3cd), No Quarter (H-Bomb, 4cd original and reissue)
These "old style" mixes switch to source two before Stairway.
First of all, Tarantura's title only contains the first four songs.
H-Bomb, LSD, and Mag Disc are missing most of the introduction.
H-Bomb's reissue has different artwork, printing on cds, and disc times (1 second diff), but the music content and sound is identical.
LSD is virtually identical in every respect to H-Bomb except that they've simply amplified the title a little.
Cobra's content is the same as the others except for the longer introduction. Like LSD, it's music and background noise are louder than H-Bomb. However, Cobra made other adjustments to the sound, leaving it without as much of the lower frequencies as the other titles.
Mag Disc's title has the shortest introduction found on a quad cd release. It does have the extra commentary after No Quarter and Since, that are only found on Supersonic, Empress Valley, and Tarantura2000. The many tape glitches that start during Stairway and lasting through the rest of the tape, have almost all been edited out. Like Mag's other releases, this title too has the familiar metallic sound in the background. It is constantly evident and inexcusable. The tape is the same generation quality as the other 4cd releases.

My personal goal is to have 5 or more new shows up every day Monday through Friday and 1 each for Saturday and Sunday. I have tried to place a few more metal pieces in the mix based on requests. Starting next week each link will have a 3% recovery record included. I have been instructed that this extra step will help prevent rar corruption.

Peter Frampton: 2004 Summer Tour (Unreleased Songs) FLAC

In 2004 Frampton released "Instant Live: Peter's Select Tracks from the 2004 Summer Tour".
These songs are from the same master recordings but include only the ones that did not go to album. Nearly 30 years after his definitive live album, and Frampton still sounds like he actually still enjoys playing his old favorites on stage.

OU Notes: These discs came to me in trade, nine years ago. The source is a fourth-gen cassette dub, one of which was high-speed. The owner of this dub took his tapes to someone who didn't quite have a good grasp on FFT noise reduction. It sounds like with these tapes, they needed some hiss reduction, but this was early days for FFT NR, and there's a tad too much on here. That does not detract from the enjoyability factor of the music.
Browne had a great touring band, and this soundboard tape shows them rehearsing for the upcoming tour. Several songs have multiple rehearsals. There is some levity. There isn't much bass. I suspect that this audio feed came from what they were sending to the stage monitors. So it had very little bass content, so the result wouldn't be mud.
I see one reference to this set on the web. That would have to have been either the guy I got this from, or someone else he traded it to. I've never traded it to anyone, and I don't believe I've ever posted this on Usenet. I've just been kinda sitting on it. Now it's time to share. Hardly anyone has heard it!
Before conversion to FLAC, I ran each of the tracks through Audition 3 for phase correction, which fixed a great deal that was wrong with these recordings. Since I don't think we'll ever get access to the tape again, we'll have to make do with this version. It's the only one!

Tom Waits: Nighthawks On The Radio 1976 (Remastered Edition) FLAC

"This was a show that I recorded with Tom in December of 1976 that was originally broadcast on WNEW during my first sojourn at the station. I played this one-hour rare tape tonight as my contribution to the station's "From The Archives Weekend." Tom and I, and drummer Ralph Ebler, taped this at a recording studio in town - Tom at the piano, Ralph on snare drum and hi-hat; it was unrehearsed, unscripted and totally cool! This is the first time the show has been aired in its entirety since the original broadcast almost 20 years ago." - Vin Scelsa
OU (Remaster) NOTES:
I'm listing this as an FM recording, because I don't know for sure that it isn't; there is no 19 KHz pilot tone on it to identify it as an FM recording.
The original files ran at the wrong speed, and there was a pretty serious channel imbalance. I corrected the pitch to A=440, matched the levels and ran phase correction on the whole program, then resplit the tracks and converted to FLAC.
This show has been posted to TTD one other time, on 10-08-07 by Flick, as a transfer from an 8-track cartridge, which he says was captured in mono due to poor reception, and he did some noise reduction on it due to massive tape hiss, and there were some dropouts and tape damage. It's also missing the last two songs. The version I'm posting sounds as close to perfect as you are likely to get, and it includes the two extra songs.
Artwork is included.

The track splits on this one are a little bit off, but it's a nice sounding (incomplete?) early Krokus show. For some reason there are a bunch of FM broadcasts from Krokus, and basically none from other more popular bands like Ratt.
