Sound Quality: very good soundboard recording, good vinyl condition

OU Notes: On the 8th, 9th and 10th January 1986 Marillion played 3 concerts at The Hammersmith Odeon in London, they used some materials from days 9th and 10th for their mini LP "Brief Encounteer" and the album "The Thieving Magpie". The two vinyl bootlegs "Selling Fish Live 3 & 4" (absolutely no relations with "Selling Fish By The Pound 1 & 2") presents part of the day 8th concert. Usually both album are tagged as "audience recording" but this is not true. The source is a good soundboard (possible a broadcast event), unfortunately as master tape for these bootlegs was used a standard low noise cassette (tipically sound... low high frequencies, tape noise, hisses and more) but the result is however enjoiable.
Parts of this show can be found on other different records as the vinyl "From: Hammersmith Odeon 8-1-86" (M 11685) a true audience recording and the double CD "Hammersmith Odeon 1986" (another who claim "audience recording", it have the full concert but i don't known if his source was another tape or the original tapes used for "Selling Fish 3 & 4" or just these 2 vinyl bootlegs with an add of the missing tracks).
The two bonus segments #17 & #18 are taken from "Hammersmith Odeon 8-1-86" and here we have a new problem. Into the short cut intro for "The Web" in "Selling Fish 4" Fish's words are "this is called The Web" but in the complete intro from the other bootleg he say "this is a song called The Web", i've compared the songs and they seems different (both Misplaced Childhood suite are identical). What is the source for The Web on "Hammersmith Odeon 8-1-86" bootleg? Sorry, but I cannot share this song with this doubt.
Well, here the full set list and correct order tracks for the 8th January: 01) The Thieving Magpie 02) Emerald Lies (Intro) 03) Script for a Jester´s Tear 04) Incubus 05) Jigsaw 06) The Web 07) Misplaced Childhood 08) Fugazi 09) Punch and Judy 10) Market Square Heroes.
Last, I've re-united the 2 parts of "Heart Of Lothian" in a single track, originally the 1st part is at the end of side A and the 2nd part at the beginning of Side B.

USELESS BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE BENNY GOODMAN SHOW (by Mexminute):
My memory of the day Benny Goodman played the Towson Center on the campus of Towson State University in Towson, Maryland is kind of vague.
You need to know that the Towson Center was a brand new complex that was built to hold basketball games, lecture series, concerts & trade shows. However, when you walked into the venue, it looks like a college gymnasium (which is actually what it was).
I was employed at the Towson Center as the Special Events Coordinator (which meant that I ran the ushering staff, and did some artist interaction). I was told to be at the venue by late morning, as Mr. Goodman & his entourage were going to show up around noon. As the stage was being set up with all the risers & “big band” equipment, one of my ushers waited outside the building for Mr. Goodman’s car to arrive (or so I thought he was….he actually was around the side of the building smoking a joint).
Low & behold, there is a thunderous banging at the stage door exit. It was Benny Goodman with his manager, trying to gain accessibility to the venue. I quickly ran over, apologized to the 2 gentlemen, and proceeded to escort them into the gym.
Mr. Goodman takes 3 steps inside, gives a quick visual scan of where he will be performing, and begins to clear his throat. Then with no concern for decorum or class, he hocks a giant lugy on the gym floor and says, “Sh!t, another f^cking gymnasium.” I kid you not….one of the most influential jazz / big band musicians in the world spit on floor inside, dropped the f-bomb, and threw in a sh!t for good measure. How cool was that?
So, he puts his hat back on, turns around & walks out the building, not to return until 5 minutes before the lights went down.
I got to see very little of the show because my boss & I were held up in Mr. Goodman’s dressing room eating & drinks all the incredible food the catering service made for him.
Later that evening when the show was over, the technical director of the venue walked over to me and handed me a cassette tape. I asked what it was & he told me that it was the soundboard master of tonight’s performance, and that this recording must never, ever, ever get out into general circulation. I agreed. However I think 30 years later & ok to share.
Please enjoy this gem.

OU Notes: I don't usually source shows that are not from my masters, but this is an exception. I just got this from a UK Eric Clapton collector who follows the Japanese bootleg releases.
This recording of the first Budokan show of 1976 Japanese Tour is from a previously uncirculated
master. This is a recent release from the apparently exclusive Tarantura label and is supposed to be direct from the original cassette masters. Nagoya and this Budokan show is supposedly from the same taper.
The sound is very good. Some think that it is even better than the Nagoya show.

boot review:
We Love You (Tarantura TCDNY-6-1, 2)
Budokan, Tokyo, Japan – March 10th, 1976

We Love You documents Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s penultimate show on their tour of Japan. Like all of these concerts there already exists a tape source that has seen much circulation, although it never was booted. This concert was also professionally filmed and some tracks appear on The Year Of The Horse and many other DVDs. Tarantura use a new tape source that sounds very similar to the Nagoya tape on Wet Show. It has the same clarity, balance and dynamics. The only distraction is several Americans by the tape who make comments to Young throughout the performance. The do not speak during the music so their intrusion is kept to a minimum. The set list is identical except that the two encores are played in reverse order. What is immediately apparent listening to the acoustic set on the first disc is how determined Young is. Instead of being chatty and leading the audience through the set, he buckles down and plays the music keeping the conversation to a minimum. There is also much more confidence in the delivery of the material. “After The Goldrush,” with its apocalyptic, mystical medieval overtones is a standout. The audience follows along with the pensive lyrics but shout out when he sings “and I felt like getting high.” Afterwards he says, “It’s a little crowded up here. I’m happy to be here in Tokyo near the finish of my Japanese tour which I’ve enjoyed very much. Having a good time here. Here’s a new song call ‘Too Far Gone.’ It’s about me.” “A Man Needs A Maid” sounds very melodramatic in this show and is followed by “No One Seems To Know.” This song, another piano ballad has been described by Young as “A Man Needs A Maid, Part 2” and it is appropriate to follow it in the set list.

Before the final song one of the Americans by the microphone shouts, “Play on, brother! Play on!” “It’s getting wet up here” he says before “Heart Of Gold,” making the same observation as in Nagoya while cleaning his harmonica. The electric set on disc two begins with the bucolic “Country Home.” There is a cut and fade in the tape afterwards and one of the Americans wants everybody to “start boogie-ing” before “Don’t Cry No Tears.” There are some shouts and Billy Talbot comes to the microphone and says, “you people are bad, man” before “Down By The River.” The tempo is very slow and deliberate on this number, replicating the sludge of the river and the sludge of the soul of the antagonist, shooting his baby with a gun. The drums sound very heavy on this recording during this song and at nine minutes misses the long duel between Young and Whitten from the 1970 shows where it would reach twenty minutes on a good night. However in this version Young is very restraint in his solo, stretching the sustain to unbearable tension before breaking that with his trademark hacking staccato feedback riffs. The Americans in the audience afterwards shout, “Let’s have a party! Get down!” Neil responds by saying, “I hear we have some Americans here tonight. I never would have known. Here’s to all of you” before leading the band in a tender version of “Lotta Love.” “Like A Hurricane” is the last new song they play “before we get back to some of the old tunes” Young says before the band play a nine minute version of the piece. By the end of the year this song would routinely be stretched past the ten-minute mark with longer, more insane soloing. It is also worthy to note the influence of the keyboards creating a dramatic haze underneath the verses.

“The Losing End” is curtly introduced as an old song from Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. After a cut in the tape they play “Drive Back” from the new album Zuma. After the final song “Southern Man” there is a cut in the tape and the mc, Goro Ito, can be heard introducing the band before they start playing the majestic “Cortez The Killer.” Molina then ticks the time on the drum and the band finsh with the second encore of the evening "Cinnamon Girl." Compared to the Nagoya show, this is better, more happy way to the show and works much better as a second encore than does "Cortez The Killer." It puts everyone in the audience, including the boisterous Americans, in a party mood and ends the evening on a high note. There are some people in the audience shouting along as Young sings the song of Spanish imperialistic conquest. Like Wet Show, We Love You is limited to one hundred unnumbered copies packaged in a cardboard gatefold sleeve. On the inside are pictures of the cassette and the J-card with the information recorded by the taper. This is the sixth day of the tour of Japan and the difference in the matrix number between this and the first release raises speculation that Tarantura just might release the other shows in this series in the future. Whether or not they might use new tape sources or the excellent quality older ones is another point of speculation, but these shows are considered by many collectors to be among the best played by Neil Young and Crazy Horse ever played. To have this show in such an amazing quality stereo audience recording is worth having.

EXCELLENT FM Broadcast from Rod's 1983 Camouflage tour. The last track on each CD has several minutes (30+) of silence after the song as whoever I bought this from didn't stop the track after the song was over. Otherwise, this is an A+.

These are all new links as of Friday, April 24. If you had the old linkd and have 11 songs you may just download the last 3 parts and combine your folders

this is a low generation clone, possibly 2nd, maybe 3rd gen.
Total time here is 79:38 with 10 tracks altogether.
Lineage: CDR (2nd gen?) -> SoundForge 6.0 (extraction) -> WaveLab (tracking) -> FlacFrontend (level 8)

05 The Idiot Bastard Son
06 Cheepnis
07 Big Swifty
08 Dickie's Such An A$$hole*
09 Farther Oblivion
10 The Mr. Green Genes Medley**

* the world premiere was of course announced as San Clemente Magnetic Deviation but I chose its accepted title.
** I've taken the liberty to alter the title only because the full one may have too many characters for some players.
The medley consists of Son Of Mr Green Genes/King Kong/Chunga's Revenge (plus the Dickie's Such An Asshole reprise).

Also a short note on tracking. I've made some slight adjustments. First, on the CDR all tracks begin with a tiny little gap of 0.008 second (=a tiny click). I've managed to get rid of those. Second, all track markers are placed at the beginning of music. This works in some cases but no in all. For example, it makes more sense to start Dickie's Such An A-hole earlier, when FZ announces the premiere and tells about the song.
In some other cases, I moved the markers slightly to include counting off (as it makes less sense to have FZ saying "okay, one two three" at the end of the preceding track).

George Duke: Keyboards, Vocals
Napoleon Murphy Brock: Tenor Sax, Vocals

Tracks 13 and 14 (marked +) are from the Tower Theatre Philadelphia 29.11.72

NB: Tracks 1 and 2 have been released officially on "Bowie At The Beeb" so are presented here for information only.
This is a direct recording of a single silver Disc entitled: "MISCELLANEOUS OF CATS".
It was recorded in Tokyo at Shinjuka Konkaido on 08.04.73.
There is no record label or cat nos printed on the disc or cover.

However this is what Bassman has to say about this recording:
COMMENTS: A Japanese CD with the same concert as on the LP WHO'LL LOVE ALADDIN SANE IN TOKYO (1990), in the same sound quality. The cover says that it is a soundboard recording, but it isn't. Four bonus songs have been added, two from BBC and two together with Mott The Hoople. It is most uncertain if Bowie participates in this live version of HONKY TONK WOMEN.
Soundwise this is a very decent audience recording of a Ziggy Stardust gig, and I would rate it at 7/10. Furthermore there are some great highlights on this disc. Complete recordings of both Panic In Detroit and Alladin Sane which prompted me to buy this disc in the first place.
As always share freely but never sell.

OU Notes:
- Filtered out a noise tone cause by the television, that was located between 15.40kHz and 15.93kHz
- Boosted some bass and treble frequencies
- Broadcast started at the end of the pre-intro to 'Politik'.
- Two gaps in 'God Put A Smile Upon Your Face' (caused by technical problems) were filled up by mono recordings from a VCR recording of this show.
- The broadcast had a slight audio gap in the first line of 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head'
- 'Poor Me' and 'Trouble' were not broadcasted.

Kansas: Monolith In the Storm 1979 (FM) FLAC

Supercell_Thunderstorm
MONOLITH IN THE STORM
KANSAS
Alpine Valley
East Troy, WI.
July 4, 1979
WLS-FM LIVE RADIO BROADCAST
OU Notes:
Well, everyone has been requesting a MONOLITH tour show. They are hard to come by!! (almost as hard as a complete soundboard from the first and second album tours!)
This is the WLS FM radio broadcast, that was aired live as it happened on July 4, 1979. As Robby mentions, it was going out live around the world, but a bad storm caused lots of problems with the signal and this is rough. It is an FM broadcast, and although it is rough, I have still enjoyed it for many years. To me, it sounds as good as many audience recordings I have heard through the years. Not a problem for me to listen to, but you be the judge!
I got this on 2 cdrs when people started burning their own discs from cassette tapes long ago. I have NO IDEA of the lineage, except I know this has not been done as MP3 and converted back. I took the cds and ripped them with SOUNDFORGE, titled the tracks, used FLACfrontend to encode them (FLAC 8), and drank a glass of ice water during the conversion.
(No waterglass was harmed in the process) I have enjoyed this for the powerful show it is..
I hope those of you who (like me) find MONOLITH to be a diamond in the crown of KANSAS work, will enjoy this!

The Band was:
Richard Williams - guitars
Robby Steinhardt - violin and lead vocals

Lineage: cass[low] > DAT@48khz > wav > shn@48khz --> Wav > ACL14 > Wav44 > CDWave > Flac
OU Notes: Objective was to use the channel with the best SQ, level a very large number of volume fluctuations, repair drop outs/downs, remove many distortions/crackles, as well as other targeted modifications. Artwork included.
This recorder/source contained hundreds of volume fluctuations with the left channel having the most severe fluctuations and drop outs/downs. Also, the left channel had a much higher hiss level. These fluctuations and difference in channel quality sort of obscured the fact that this was a mono recording. When you zoomed in on the waveform throughout, you could see that regardless of the level differences, the channels were identical. I went through the show and compared many segments and determined that the right channel, overall had better SQ and fewer and less extreme volume fluctuations. So with the exception of a few dropouts and the last 1:40 of track 14, I used the right channel for both channels.
A bit over a minute into track14-WYI, there is a 40 second segment of severe volume fluctuations. This small portion was divided into over 100 sections in order to level it out. The amount of increase at times required the use of the upper end of the EQ to remove some background noise in order to make the transitions transparent. It's still a bit chunky, but much much better than it was.
Manually removed a large number of distortions/crackles. I used a very modest amount of PEQ on selected parts. Almost all were between 1-2db.
A line of noise around 15.7k could indicate a HI-FI gen. I diminished it some.
Chances are I'm forgetting something.

OU Notes:
Although this concert is well known and has appeared on more than one bootleg and has been issued by at least one Floyd group, this is taken from a first generation cassette directly dubbed from the master. This came to me on DAT from a highly respected and influential Canadian Hendrix collector who got this and several other Canadian concerts from the group of guys who used to go out of their way to record the bands in town. Of course he got his copies from their masters back in the days when the only way of doing things was to transfer to cassette. When we moved into the digital age he kindly sent me this on DAT, directly from his 1st generation tapes.
Speed was a bit fast on this release. Adjusted speed -4.1% and aligned to sector boundaries. [Spectre]

This is an excellent sounding audience recording! Probably one of the best AUD-sourced shows that I've heard from Elefante...definitely worth checking out! Received this one in a trade & do not have any specific lineage info on this one.

This is a direct copy of a single silver disc I have entitled "Ziggy Goes East"
Catologue No TRYSTAR TR003 which I bought at a record fair. It is an audience recording of a gig at Nenkin-Kaikan Tokyo on 11th April 1973.
This is what Bassman has to say about this recording:
"Wow! This is an previously unreleased Japanese concert, the third one of the rather short Aladdin Sane tour (in Japan). The sound quality is very good for being an audience tape from 1973, and it is probably complete? Buy it when you find it"!
It is really is an excellent audience recording.
This has a rawer feel to the music when compared to the Boston show. Bowies vocals are very clear and all the instruments are well balanced, the taper must have been centre stage near the front. Once again this recording illustrates what an underestimated guitarist Mick Ronson was, some of his guitar work is fantastic.

Black Sabbath: Born Again Demos 1983 (FLAC)

Black_Sabbath_Born_Again_Unmixed_Demos__Front
Line-up: Geezer Butler, Ian Gillan, Tony Iommi, Geoff Nicholls, Bill Ward
Date: 26th June 1983
Location: The Manor Studios, Shipton-on-Cherwell, Oxfordshire, England
Source: unmixed studio demos
Lineage: Tape > CDR > WAV > FLAC level 6
all art included

Tracks:
1. Hot Line
2. Keep It Warm
3. The Fallen
4. Digital Bitch
5. Stonehenge
6. Trashed
7. Zero the Hero
8. Born Again
9. Disturbing the Priest

OU Notes: These demos for the Born Again album are great in my opinion they're better than the finished article. Many tracks run for longer than in their released versions. For example, Stonehenge runs for over five minutes. There is also an excellent song that didnÕt make it to the album, The Fallen. This is essential listening for fans of this era of Sabbath. Enjoy it.

lineage: not sure where I got this one->EAC for file extraction->Traders Little Helper for FLAC conversion

Twisted Sister had been around for ages before they became an MTV staple with the release of Stay Hungry. In fact, they had a couple great albums that came out in the early 80's, and enjoyed some success in the UK. Any hoo, you get the usual dose of Dee ranting like a mad man in this broadcast....a nice glimpse of Twisted Sister back in their Club Daze.
