Deep Purple: San Bernardino 1972 (VG Aud) FLAC

mh-front-io
Deep Purple San Bernardino Swing Auditorium 1972-01-28 Master AUD reel-to-reel
This is a *very* high energy show, with the early 1972 setlist:

Blues Tuneups
Speed King
Strange Kind Of Woman
Child In Time
The Mule (w/drum solo)
Space Truckin'
Mandrake Root Instrumental Portion (cut)

The version of Space Truckin' is pre-"Machine Head" by several months. It's very much shortened and closer to the LP version. Instead of an extended version of that song, we are treated to a jam of the instrumental portion of "Mandrake Root", where Purple succeed in bringing the house down.
Unfortunately the tape cuts at about 17 minutes into the instrumental. After extensive combing through the tapes, I am unable to find any more of this show. It has to be considered lost or untaped. More than likely this jam went into "Lucille", which ended the night.
Enjoy!

Pink Floyd: Last Performance of the Animals Tour 1977 (MoLM Remaster) FLAC

3813
Title: Azimuth Coordinator, part 2, revision 1
Remastered from a hand-numbered boxed set entitled
Azimuth Coodinator, part two.

Pink Floyd: Last Performance of the Animals Tour
July 6, 1977, Olympic Stadium
Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Remastered by Danalog of Man of Leisure Music (MoLM), February, 2003 from an EAC clone of the original silver CDs. The original release ran too slowly, and Danalog corrected the speed, brought out a bit more bass and reduced some of the extraneous noise.
This is the show where Roger finally had enough of the huge, wild audiences of the stadium concerts. After ridiculing them with profanity, he later spits in the face one of the more unruly fans. This total estrangement between the band and the audience is what Roger claims gave him the inspiration for the Wall.

July 15, 1994
Excellent digital soundboard recording (from DAT master)
Another stellar recording from "The RS Arvhives" (a Mexminute/TheCommish production)

Setlist:
01. Announcements
02. Instrumental intro
03. I Knew You Were Waiting
04. Share Your Love With Me
05. Spanish Harlem
06. Angel
07. Chain Of Fools
08. Respect

(Tracks 09-11 are "Optional" tracks--burn them or skip them)
09. Introducing her son's act
10. Her son's rap act
11. Commenting on her son's act

12. Band intro and banter
13. You Send Me
14. A Deeper Love
15. Willing To Forgive
16. Freeway Of Love
17. The Greatest Love Of All

TheCommish notes: As noted above, I consider Tracks 09-11 to be "optional" tracks. To put it politely, I think her son's act doesn't exactly blend well with the rest of the show--so I decided to skip these optional tracks when I burned the show to CD. But since your mileage may vary, they're here if you want them. Please also note that there is a cut at the 2:34 mark in Track 10.

Lineage:
DAT master > Sony PCM-R500 (playback) > HHB CDR-850 (burning) > CDR, then
CDR > EAC > WAV > Editing (see below) > FLAC Frontend > FLAC

Editing notes:
* Re-tracked show (combined WAV files in Nero, then re-split with CD Wave)
* Volume adjustments made with Nero's wave editor (see details below)
* Deleted 17 seconds at end of Track 01 and faded out with Nero
* Slight fade-out applied to end of Track 10
* Slight fade-in applied to beginning of Track 11
* Deleted 56 seconds of extra applause at end of Track 17; faded out with Nero

About "The RS Archives": The RS Archive consists of a selection of live recordings made by a great individual who passed away in 2005.
RS worked in the music industry in many capacities….a music fan….a musician….a sound engineer. He was considered one of the best behind the mixing board. I was honored to have known him for practically 35 years. There was no one like him….he was a wonderful human being. Everybody loved him. He was a level-headed guy who knew what sounded good and what didn't. He could conceive and design sound systems from scratch in his head to meet the artist’s needs. Whatever they wanted, he could do.
For years, he mixed music at the annual Grammy Awards and the American Music Awards television show. RS worked closely for years with Daryl Hall and John Oates, Juice Newton, Anita Baker, Mariah Carey, Tears for Fears, Crack the Sky, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Aretha Franklin, Pink Floyd, Whitney Houston, Bette Midler, Ann Murray, Michael Bolton, Kenny G, Tony Bennett, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, John Fogerty, Bonnie Raitt, Frank Sinatra, John Hiatt, Little Feat, Little Village, and Waylon Jennings…..to name a few.
He had a huge reputation in the business, and that's why he was chosen to work with such budding clients as Mariah Carey. With the major stars, he was one of the preferred engineers they choose to work with. A particular client of RS who had a reputation for firing sound engineers with great regularity was Anita Baker, whom he won over not only with his technical abilities and personality, but with his refusal to put up with her criticism. He quit a few times but always came back because she loved the way he mixed her music. He could coddle difficult and temperamental celebrities, and they respected his work. He was able to kick back and get along with them. Even though he knew these people, he was a very modest man.
So now, it is time to honor him by sharing some of the many recordings he made while on the road. All are perfect (or near perfect) soundboard recordings made from the master cassettes or master dat tapes. Unfortunately, I am not able to identify the original equipment these tapes were made on, however I can say that for the transferring process, the cassette tapes were played back on a Nakamichi CR-7A, and the dat tapes on a Sony PCM-R500. They were all burnt onto cdr using a HHB CDR-850.
Please enjoy these tasty gems!
Mexminute.

OU Notes:
- Flaws I have noticed:
skip at 3m32s690ms in track 3
skip at 4m15s450ms in track 6
I tried to correct the skips (microsecond gaps) to make them less annoying, but I have also included the UNCORRECTED files for anyone who would like to improve this for themselves.
- Apparently this has not been widely circulated until now. It’s not in the dime bot list, and I haven’t found it anywhere when searching on the web. So maybe it’s a welcome addition for Curtis Mayfield fans out there...
- The trader I received this from recorded this either to reel-to-reel tape or to cassette tape, and if I remember correctly he told me that he applied some careful noise reduction before he burned it to CD-R.
- This particular show was broadcast in 1990 by Bavarian radio which sometimes used to transmit recordings taken over from other German radio stations (so possibly it was also broadcast by Radio Bremen or another German radio station).
- I left in the presenter’s comments at the beginning and before the last track because he explicitly states the date and venue (in German...). "Modernes" is the name of the venue, it still exists today.

AylesburyBooklet01
Aylesbury Frias Club, Aylesbury, UK / 25. September 1971

Audio Source: audience recording
Lineage: Silver --> XLD --> FLAC 8

Notes: This is the third issue of the Aylesbury concert (Close To The Golden Dawn 2003 and The Spiders From Aylesbury 2003) but this time the soundquality is a bit clearer. It has a slightly longer intro as well: If we all move up just a little bit "you know" get closer. Comes with a booklet which has some nice pictures inside from 1971.

Info: (from the liner notes)
What we have here is one of the rarest Bowie recordings of all time the Pre Ziggy Stardust Show, only weeks before Bowie had his first meeting (September 10th 1971) with Andy Warhol at the Factory in New York.
At Aylesbury Bowie performs with Michael Ronson (lead guitar), Mick Woodmansey (percussion), Trevor Bolder (bass guitar), Tom Parker ex Animals (piano).
Weeks later Bowie and his new band would start rehearsals at the Underhill Rehearsals Studios South London, the new band would soon be named the Spiders and Ziggy would be there. The rest is history as they say. Enjoy!

Neil Young: Acoustic Young 1976 (Soundboard) FLAC

young_acoustic_1976
A compilation of acoustic songs from the 1976 tour with Crazy Horse (the first Crazy Horse tour with Frank "Pancho" Sampedro taking the place of the late Danny Whitten). Joel Bernstein first connected with Neil a few years earlier as a photographer, and has played a lot of roles in Neil's career, including, most relevant, official archivist.
I don't know if there's one agreed upon story about how this tape got out to traders, one version is that Joel gave the tapes to the roadcrew at the end of the tour as a souvenir. At any rate, it's been bootlegged for many years now. Sound quality is excellent, as it should be for a soundboard recording (Neil records essentially all of his concerts).

Deep Purple: Sweden 1973 (VG Aud) FLAC

cking-front
ad hoc cover
Deep Purple (MK 111) Gothenburg Sweden 11-12-73
2Cdr
Audience
OU Notes:
This is a direct copy of a double cdr I have entitled "White Nights" It was recorded live in Gothenburg Sweden on December 11th, 1973.
As always with cdr recordings you can never vouch for the source of the material provided. My copy is very unprofessional looking and to be honest I could have made a better job myself.
However it was instantly recognised by "CDex 1.30 Player" as soon as I searched the online databases as ""White Nights" Gothenburg Sweden 11-12-73".
Sound wise I would rate this audience recording at VG+.
There is a little bit of tape wobble especially at the start of Burn but with a decent Hi Fi you can actually get it sounding pretty good indeed.
This is an early recording of Mark 3 incarnation of Deep Purple, and consequently it contains a very rare performance of "Whats Going On" which according to "The Highway Star" fans site was only performed very occcasionally.
I hope you enjoy it.

Disc 1
1. Burn
2. Might Just take Your Life
3. Lay Down Stay Down
4. Mistreated
5. Smoke On The Water
6. You Fool No One

Often mislabeled as 6.12.80 as well as 6.26.80
This show comes from Japanese bootleg: Boot -> EAC [high, secure] -> SHN
It is different from most circulating copies since it includes the I-Three's opener and also has very high quality sound. The only known cut in this show is about 5 minutes of crowd clapping before encore.
This is one of my favorite shows. Get it if you don't have it.

Glass Harp: KSAN 1971 (FLAC)

make shift cover
Glass Harp - 1971-XX-XX - Sausalito, CA
In the late '60s and early '70s a power rock trio from Youngstown, Ohio called Glass Harp reached for the stars. They must have made contact, as references to stellar events seem to pervade much of their music. As a reviewer of their debut album observed,"...no fewer than five songs mention the sky, and three of the remaining ones talk about things like stars, rainbows, and the moon."
They were a bare bones group in the tradition of Cream, Jimi Hendrix Experience, and fellow Ohio band, The James Gang. But Glass Harp developed a signature sound of their own-a progressive one that allowed the members, collectively and individually, to stretch beyond the confines of standard form; breaks in songs for guitar, bass, flute, and drum solos were de riguere , as extended improvisations that would take the bands performances into the late hours.
The trio's following was particularly amazed by the lighnting style and precise technique of the bands 18 year old guitarist Phil Keaggy, who aside from his youth, had the use of only nine fingers. Neither strike impeded his ability to produce highly lyrical solos. Combined with the tasteful, rhythmic bass lines of Daniel Pecchio and the sharp, assertive drumming of John Sferra, Glass Harp created a wall of sound that would thrill sell-out capacities across the upper Midwest and beyond.
While the band dissolved on the cusp of achieving mainstream rock stardom, they garnered a large and loyal regional following. National notoriety followed as they toured with the likes of Traffic, Yes, The Kinks, Humble Pie, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, and Grand Funk Railroad. " They were just the warm-up group," recalls a journalist of the day, "But it was the first time I had heard a local group and felt that I had heard the headline concert."
With the release of their first album came more national attention, and even more enthusiasm back home-none of which was lost on the record company advertising execs, who exploited their burgeoning popularity with such ad copy as: "The Glass Harp epidemic began about two weeks ago in Ohio and has been spreading so rapidly it has already affected some 36,000 in Cleveland alone. There is conclusive evidence to suggest that a new rock group Glass Harp is responsible for this epidemic. The release of their LP coincides almost exactly with the outbreak of this phenomenon.Contact your MCA Distributor today and become a carrier of the Glass Harp epidemic."
In all, the band's recorded output consisted of three critically- acclaimed LPs- all released on the Decca(MCA) label-Glass Harp, Synergy, and It Makes Me Glad. In spite of their short lived life, the band managed to imprint an indelible mark on the history of rock 'n' roll. Performing with some of the biggest bands of the day on stages ranging from the Filmore to Carnegie Hall. [Source - John August Schroeter]

OU Notes: Lately I have a liking for all things Colosseum and recently found a tape I had got off a Dick Heckstall Smith collector years ago that I hadforgotten about and it has these rare Colosseum radio station session outtakes from either late 1969 or early 1970 (most likely the John Peel session from march 1970), I was told these were on a reel and were the unused material from the radio session !! (some songs are not complete) unfortunately no one has the radio broadcast but we live in hope it will
be found one day.

Neil Ardley and The New Jazz Orchestra I believe Jon Hiseman, Dick Heckstall Smith are in the band only detailsI have ever seen for this is what I got of live on London radio 1969and as Tanglewood '63 is a song Colosseum recorded I included it as it's also the best copy I have.
Pete Brown & Dick Heckstall Smith demo tape is a gem as only one song was re-recorded for Dick's solo LP and 9 and 10 as far as I know have not been recorded by Pete (please correct me if I'm wrong)

Jack Bruce Band (Anton Fier, Pat Thrall, David Bravo)'Bottom Line' New York october 1988 one song was on the tape Jack says at the end it's the first time he has played Rope Ladder live! a bit hissy but I included it because of the songs association with Colosseum.
Jack Bruce: London 1971 London studio around march 1971 rehearsal of 'Harmony Row' materialI believe the piano player on 'Smiles & Grins' is Graham Bond .... not Colosseum related .... but a nice end to the disc :-)

Lineage: 1st gen copy (crome tape) of my master - Toast 7.1.3 Titanium (rip) - flac (8) - you!
A concert back then simultaneously broadcast on TV (I was sitting in front of my tiny b/w tv enjoying the fat sound on my headphones!) and on a radio station (SWF 3) that really sucked. How I hated SWF 3, since it was on all day (fully cranked up) at the workshop I was doing my apprenticeship at, playing all the trendy pop/disco stuff everybody else apart from me seemed to be into. It was so bad, I used to wear a "Franky Go To Hell" button back then (that no one understood)... ;-)
As I am still in the process of saving things back to hd after a crash, I thought I might share this with you, don't know if I ever have before. The sound quality is incredibly good, apart from some hiss.

18-This Heart Belongs To Me

OU Notes -This was a very demanding and difficult personal project. It was truly a labor of love.
After paying a ridiculous amount for this 3-LP vinyl set, I bought an adapter specifically to transfer this to digital. The recording, transferring and editting took over 8 hours. It's not perfect, but it's damn good. There's still the occasional pop/click here and there, but the sound quality is a solid A+. Performance wise, this concert captures Air Supply at their commercial prime.
So many hits and outstanding album tracks that really rock (seriously) Songs like "One Step Closer", "Late Again" and "This Heart Belongs To Me" shows these guys could pull off more than just sweeping ballads. But the ballads are here in force and they are fantastic. They introduce their new single as "Even The Nights Are Better" which blows the studio version away with a fantastic groove. The band shows on this track and all others that they can really play. But the true highlight of the show is Russell Hitchcock's voice. Listen as he holds the closing note in "All Out Of Love" for 16 seconds, just like the studio recording. Every note and phrase is pitch perfect. Main songwriter and co-lead singer Graham Russell sounds great as well, complimenting Hitchcock superbly. This really is a gem of a recording and an outstanding performance.

Deep Purple: Berlin 1973 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

Disc 2:

Absolutely great sounding show from the early 1973. Gillan is possibly a bit lost in the mix, and there are some cut and doctored peaks here and there, but all of you Richie freaks will have a ball with this one.

Soft Machine: Netherlands 1971 (Soundboard Master Reel) FLAC

You may recall that Pink Floyd did a benefit for Robert Wyatt, a member of Soft Machine, back in 1973.

This release is sourced from a reel-to-reel tape recorded at 7 1/2 ips that I got in trade in about 1977 from a fellow trader / taper in The Netherlands. It's a soundboard recording.

I cleaned up a couple of bad edits, put a song back together where it was split between sides and made a slight speed correction.

Kansas: Final Visions 1980 (Pre-FM Master Tape) New Post NOW with FLAC files

Kansas_Palladium_80_Front
Title: Final Visions
Date: November 20, 1980
Venue: The Palladium New York City USA
This is Kansas live at the Palladium during their Audio Visions tour, recorded here in its entirety. It's an excellent and nearly flawless Pre-FM Master Tape of the radio broadcast without any announcer or commercials.
The beginning of the show is phenomenal: Wagner's Lohengrin is played over the PA and the band comes onstage in total darkness and blends in beautifully with the classical piece before kicking into Point Of No Return.
Sadly this tour is also the last one with the original line up, before Steve decided to leave the band. What makes this show very interesting is the fact they play one song of Steve's and one of Kerry's solo albums back to back. It's kind of awkward to hear Steve singing the lyrics of Mask Of The Great Deceiver. But so was it to hear Black Sabbath's Ronnie James Dio sing the studio version. Track one of the second disc is continued for some minutes on the second track, probably due to some bad editing by the manufacturer. It doesn't affect the listening though.
Anyway, this show will be a very nice addition to your Kansas collection.

CD 1:
01 - Intro
02 - Point Of No Return
03 - Icarus - Born On Wings Of Steel
04 - Paradox
05 - Hopelessly Human
06 - Cheyenne Anthem
07 - Dust In The Wind
08 - You Think You Got It Made
09 - Mask Of The Great Deceiver

CD 2:
01 - Miracles Out Of Nowhere
02 - Loner
03 - Anything For You
04 - Don't Open Your Eyes
05 - Got To Rock On
06 - No One Together
07 - Hold On
08 - Relentless
09 - Portrait (He Knew)
10 - Carry On My Wayward Son
11 - End Of The Road

Steve_Winwood__Eric_Clapton_-_Live_On_Highclere_Castle_19.05.2007 - Front

This is a high quality MONO webcast wav to FLAC rip. The frequency response is quite wide though a little lacking in bass. The bitrate remains in the high 300s to high 400s. I listened to it and would recommend it as we find two old friends playing some great songs (including Traffic favorites) together.
Webcast > Mono> Audacity -> split with CDWav -> Flac 6

103-Higher Love

105-Dear Mr Fantasy
106-Why Can't we Live Together

CD 2

202-Take It Easy
203-Presence of the Lord
204-Crossroads
205-Little Queen Of Spades

-mono track multitracked to L/R
-mono expanding effect

The benefit is here you have a L and R track plus a small amount of simulated stereo. It is a bit easier listen.

Qween: In The Beginning (The De Lane Lea Studio Demo Tape) 1971 (FLAC)

previously posted on qualityboots
In The Beginning - front

Lineage: In The Beginning (silvers) -> Wav (EAC) -> Flac (Frontend level 8)
Queen had been playing the club and college circuit in and around London for almost two years when the band had a chance opportunity to test out the new recording facilities of De Lane Lea Studios. Taking advantage of the opportunity, they put together a polished demo tape of five songs: "Keep Yourself Alive," "The Night Comes Down," "Great King Rat," "Jesus," and "Liar". Despite the demo tape's quality, the band received only one offer from a record company - a low bid from Chrysalis Records, which they used to try to entice other companies.
This is the tape!

Info:
Great sounding version of the end of an era. This is the complete show from the evening, it even includes Gillan's farewell words to the audience. A moving moment for us that read about it in NME the week after.
Good quality audience tape - may be the same as "Gillan/Glover's Last Stand," but the lack of surface noise makes up for it, and there has been some obvious cleanup to the sound, making it one the few really essential Purple bootlegs to own.. legendary Purple bootleg a "must have" amongst DP bootleg traders/collectors.

No Need to Visit the Old Site. They Are Now All Online Here!

PC
I missed my March 31 target by a day but all salvagable (non-deleted) posts are now available here at qualitybootz.

I will be unavailable to respond to comments in the next couple of days as I will be working the sandbags here in North Dakota but I DO have boots scheduled to post daily so don't go away.

-Dave

PS I will begin to work on fixing reported problems and getting back to posting requests. Report problems with the link below (which also on the front page near the bottom right) to report problems but NOT to make requests (PLEASE) http://qualitybootz.blogspot.com/2009/02/use-this-link-to-report-problems-with.html

I will try to fix a few every week AND post 3-6 new boots every day M-F

Early recording of the infamous Deep Purple MK4 world tour. Well, this is before everything would fall apart, Tommy had a real good time in down under and was clean at that time (at least from Heroin...) and the shows where well recived by the audience. The new material was played with a lot of enthusiasm and the band was pretty expirimental. However, the old MKIII & III stuff is quite a different thing. Tommy blows the beginning of Burn and the overall playing is a bit sloppy at times.
The battle for the microphone had already begun, so there's a lot of screaming from Coverdale & Hughes in and between songs.
But there's also a great fell of energy and excitment in this recording which lacks in later recordings. Deep Purple where really out to prove themselfs before a big crowd and despite the above you will hear that the boys enjoyed themself that night.
Enjoy!
