AC/DC: Dirty Deeds Down Under 1976 (FM?) FLAC

BonandAngus1976
links to real cover would be appreciated.
December 18, 1976 Brisbane, Festival Hall Flac

1) Love Song
2) Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
3) She's Got Balls
4) Problem Child
5) Live Wire
6) Jailbreak (fades out)
7) The Jack
8) TNT
9) High Voltage
10) Baby Please Don't Go (fades out)

What can I say about this recording other than it's fantastic both in quality and also as it features the rare Love Song Intro before Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap although this is ripped as a single track.
I would rate the sound quality easily as 8/10 and it's a great document of a 1976 show.
There are a couple of gliches though on the recording. Jailbreak is incomplete, and fades out, and also Baby Please Don't Go is also incomplete fading out before the end. However if you like AC/DC you'll love this recording.

Producers remarks: An excellent audience recording from the Boston Gardens in Boston, MA on June 27, 1977. Taken from the master tapes and digitally remastered. This is an excellent and incredibly airy recording. It really captures the live Animals tour very well. The atmosphere is nearly perfect, the crowd is reasonably well behaved for a Floyd show, and the instruments come through clearly. Initially it is a little compressed sounding, but really brightens up by the end of the first song. There is virtually no hiss to be found anywhere on this recording, it is as clean as they come. Highly recommendable to any Floyd fan.

Living Colour were recorded for ZAP FM at Le Truck (Lyon-Vénissieux) and it was a pre FM recording. Totally independant mix on 24 channel tracks desk in the Zap FM studios (multipair cable from "stagebox") + sound effects + ambiance mikes.

I've made a fresh transfert from the master HiFi tape. The concert is now COMPLETE.

Frontend (level 7, align sector boundaries) > flac
*Soundforge was used to extract, set fades, boost levels (100%) and resample to 16/44.1.

And here we finally have it, the actual MASTER of Knebworth, transferred in 2006 to DAT directly from the Master Cassettes by the recorder himself, a self-proclaimed "grumpy old bastard" who is actually a supremely generous individual--and to whom we owe much gratitude not only for providing the master DAT, but for recording the concert 31 years ago. Additional kudos to fatoldpig who communicated with the recorder and received the DAT from England for release by Pinkroioshn.
Unfortunately, the DAT was recorded at fairly low volume, so that a significant boost of the levels was necessary. As a result, there is a bit more hiss in these 31 year old cassettes than there should be.
No noise reduction was performed, however, in order to maintain the recording in its purest form.
Additionally, absolutely no edits were done, so that this flac file contains all the lengthy tune-ups, stage chatter, and indeed the entire event as it was captured by the recorder that day. The Floyd surely took their time at this concert. This is the final performance of the Dark Side of the Moon suite by the four-man Pink Floyd.
DAT Master acquired for Pinkroioshn label by fatoldpig.

That is all I know truthfully. The fellow I received it from said he had borrowed the master reels from the owner, copied them, and returned them. He seemed very sincere about it so I would tend to think the lineage accurate. It sure sounds mighty clean.

Liner notes: A friend gave me a copy of this show on cassette (off of his copy) in the late 1980's. At that time this recording represented the best of the 1973 shows which clearly indicates how few excellent recordings there are from this tour. Most of the best recordings still have a "hollow" and "distant" sound to them and this one is no exception. One of the things that sets this one apart from others is the great performance that the band gave that night highlighted by Nick Mason's drumming (how often can you say that?). For the initial Harvested release (back in January 2001) my friend loaned my his own copy in order to eliminate a generation. I'm pretty sure that he tracked down the master and that's where his copy came from. If not, then this is transferred from a 2nd gen cassette. This was very early on in the HRV days and I did all the work myself on this one. I'm pretty sure that what I did was to balance all of the audio levels, sequence the songs, and perhaps apply a bit of EQ. I don't think that I used any NR here and if I did the spectrum analysis displays how minimally it was used. Ed was around for the final quality check and this is when we 1st started using the Shorten (.shn) format.
In November 2005, MOB applied a needed speed-correction, creating this RevA, as the original tapes played a bit fast.
I really love the 1973 tour because the band wasn't burned out from playing DSOTM yet and I'm especially fond of the opening number (OBC/WYI). This recording becomes very listenable after a few minutes if you just let yourself get into it. The New York, Boston and Hollywood (FL not CA) shows are also worth checking out.

Yes: Amsterdam 1972 (VG Stereo Aud) FLAC

Date: 21st January 1972 (the "Fragile" tour)
Venue: Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Recording: very good stereo audience
Source: "The White Yes Album" vinyl bootleg (which is red, not white!) > WAV > FLAC

Tracks:
1) I'VE SEEN ALL GOOD PEOPLE - Anderson/Squire - 7.46
2) HEART OF THE SUNRISE - Anderson/Squire/Bruford - 9.50
3) RICK WAKEMAN SOLO - Wakeman - 7.38
4) LONG DISTANCE RUNAROUND - Anderson - 3.17
5) THE FISH (SCHINDLERIA PRAEMATURUS) - Squire - 1.22
6) YOURS IS NO DISGRACE - Anderson/Squire/Bruford/Kaye/Howe - 8.05
Notes from uploader:
No audio processing has been done. This is just how my vinyl sounds, which is essentially very good. If anyone wants to remaster this, that'd be lovely and I'd happily download the results myself! I recorded it from my turntable (a Kam DDX750 direct drive model) to WAV files on my Tascam DP01-FX/CD digital 8-track. From there I exported the files via a USB connection to my laptop. On the PC I put in track markings using Nero Wave Editor, then converted the files to FLAC level 8 using Traders' Little Helper, which I also used to create the torrent files.
"Heart of the Sunrise" lacks the first verse (but retains most of the introduction), "The Fish" is also truncated and some of the "Yours Is No Disgrace" solo has been cut out. Presumably these edits were made to fit it onto vinyl back in the day, although it's not that long - just under forty minutes in total!
For your enjoyment, here are the sleeve notes on the back of the original LP (exactly as they appear, typos and all) - they're a hoot!

ABOUT THE RECORD:
'THE WHITE YES ALBUM'
This is the first white YES album, recorded live at the famous Amsterdam concert-building, where so many great artists performed.
Some people call it: 'The Amsterdam Fillmore' and that is a good name for it.
As I said, every artist played at least once in his life in Amsterdam, and this time YES played there already for the second time within a few months!
In 2 days both concerts in Amsterdam and Rotterdam were completely sold out and even some wellknown press-authority's could not get tickets, now that says some-thing doesn't it?
It says that YES is now one of the most popular groups of the seventies not only in England and Holland, but also in the States and all over the world.
YES is a revolution in music today, and that's a fact. Maybe Jon Anderson, song-writer and singer supreme, is responsible for that, but all YES members are brilliant on their instruments. For instance: Rick Wakeman. When you hear his solo, which is the first track on side 2, you want to buy the record without even hearing the rest of it. He plays piano, moog, organ and mellotron at the same time!
Beside that, you'll find all the best parts of the concert, such as 'I've seen all good people', 'Hearts of the sunrise' on side 1 and the Anderson composition 'Long Distance' and the wonderful 'Yours is no disgrace' on side 2.
The album is a full-music album, no long boaring talks or endless applaus, but very well (on the best equipment there is) recorded hi-fi stereo YES music.
YES made already 4 fantastic albums, this is the first 'absolutely life' album, enjoy it!
The OFFSHORE-label is very proud, having an album like this as first move.

Neil Young: 2008 European Summer Tour Compilation Rustbucket (FLAC)

nyEUROCOMPSUMMER2008cd1&2front
nyEUROCOMPSUMMER2008cd3&4front
This is a compilation of every song from the 2008 European summer festival tour
Notes from compiler:
As before, I've compared each version of every song from all the recordings I have (nearly all of them!) and picked the best version to my ears. I'm no expert on recording equipment so I have no idea what the difference is between the mics the tapers use, what quality they are or even how much they cost.
I don't care as long as the end result sounds good, so I'll leave the expertise to the tapers!
Sorry if the shows you attended aren't here, as I've mentioned I've gone for the best sound.
Flacs > dbpoweramp > wave > Nero Wave Editor > Goldwave
flac frontend > Level 8 Verify and align on sector boundaries
Goldwave used to crossfade all tracks, no gaps, all 4 discs play continuously.
Goldwave used also to do some eq and volume boosts
Artwork is included.
A Rustbucket production!

For the Elvis scholar, this series is indispensable, holding mostly pristine quality studio outtakes from Elvis' RCA years, spanning a 15 year period (1956-1970). With Volume 2, another two cd set with great color photos and long fold out presentation, the focus is on sessions from 1960 through 1964, and 1967 to 1969.
Elvis the "studio professional" would be a good way to categorize his early sixties work. He made movies, gave a few live appearances, and recorded music for both film and non-film use. As we know, the musical balance would tip in unfortunate favor of soundtracks while the song quality diminished. On disc one we get a bunch of alternates from the May 1963 sessions (later to be referred to as the "lost" studio album, as the songs were relegated to various soundtrack albums as "bonus" tracks), as well as material from 1960-61 and 1964-67. We hear a super-fine singer, with an awesome studio and session musicians at his command, slaving over very mediocre songs. I'll take the weakest track from the "Elvis Is Back" sessions over things like "Finders Keepers" any day. "Western Union" is infuriating, it is such a shameless rip-off of "Return To Sender", while the bossa-nova styled "You'll Be Gone" (one of Elvis' only attempts to songwrite) is pleasant enough. "Blue River" does rock, in a goofy sort of way, and take two is the official cut (with a bit more distortion). Listen for the Jordanaires goofing up their backing vocals near the end of the tune --this was how it was released on 45 (as the flip to "Tell Me Why") in 1965 !
There's good alternate material from 1961's "Something For Everybody" sessions like"I'm Coming Home", the jaunty Charlie Rich number, which features terrific lead guitar from Hank Garland and from the "Flaming Star" sessions of August 1960. "Summer Kisses, Winter Tears" is a haunting ballad (even better out of the context of the film it was intended for) -- on take 26 Elvis coughs in the middle but they still play all the way through! The best studio recording of the three (!) he made for the amazing year of 1964 (remember the Beatles?), "It Hurts Me", is rendered beautifully in an earlier take -- only the ending needs refinement. What a waste of a collossal talent. Had he recorded more goodies like this one, the Beatles impact on Elvis' reign might've been at least a bit muted. For the hardcore, the September 11th take of "Singing Tree" is here for first time anywhere; it's just about as tedious as the released version recorded the next day (and not very different either).
Disc two offers us some more of the crazy "US Male" sessions from January 1968 -- EP was never sillier or naughtier than this! There's lots of rough language between (and during) takes, just for the fun of the musicians assembled ("Do two more like that and we'll have a complete party album," says Felton Jarvis to Elvis over the talk-back speaker). It has to be pointed out that NO ONE back then knew that anyone would ever hear this stuff -- "underground" releases were virtually non-existant (at least until the Dylan "Great White Wonder" double album put out in 1969). Thus, borderline-bad taste material like the "Wings Of An Angel" jam would never have been played, even for laughs. RCA/BMG is right to withhold this from the general public -- it would be misconstrued by the unknowing masses as "proof" Elvis was a racist. As it is, the outtakes show a loose and swinging rocker, rediscovering himself during these sessions (and I love Bob Moore's stand up bass); takes 1, 2 and 5 of "Guitar Man" from September 1967, feel the same way.

Bilko saves the best for last with material I thought we'd never hear -- outtakes from the American studios visit in February 1969! As they say, "this is the sh:t"! We get full dubs from the actual session reels with studio chat (some more of the "nasty" Elvis), flubs, and changing arrangements! His singing is so soulful and committed on these sessions, his first in Memphis since 1955, it's a thrill and an honor to be privy to this material. "After Loving You" rolls along for eight plus minutes, Elvis playing guitar along with the house band on this one (a la "One Night"). The crisp snare drum sound of Gene Chrisman is a hallmark of these sessions -- and I love hearing how perfectly placed his fills are on this song -- just listen to his playing during the first verse of the song -- precision, care and passion! Awesome!

"Do You Know Who I Am", not one of the best songs of all time, is illuminating nonetheless. For nearly a half hour (!) you are standing next to Elvis as he tries to master this song! They change the key ("Better for me" he says) and producer Chips Moman reveals himself as a take charge guy, right down to letting Elvis know when he's flat or fine (how often did that EVER happen at an Elvis session?) -- Elvis: "I still miss that f'in' modulation!" Chips: "No, you hit it!" This is great stuff, even Elvis' comment about masturbation (right around the ten minute mark) -- I kid you not.

Chips Moman is clearly to Elvis at American what Sam Phillips was to Presley during the Sun sessions fourteen years earlier -- a visionary who knew how to get the best out of his artist, musicians, studio and material. He's running the show and we all know what a great result he got. Wonder why Elvis or the Colonel didn't want to work with him again? We get to work with Elvis through "Any Day Now" and hear how close it was in arrangement to the 1963 Chuck Jackson original before the string overdubs. Critic Greil Marcus says Elvis sings this number "with a naked piety ... that cannot be heard in any of his other recordings". "Power Of My Love" is the one found on the great "From Elvis In Memphis" album, sans the overdubbed backing vocals -- he's loose as a goose here!

The "There's Always Me" series presents an excellent study of Elvis Presley, artist, at work; with the American Studios material you can upgrade that to genius at work. Volume 2 contains two essential discs for the serious Elvis fan. Thanks, as always, Bilko!

Here is one of the most interesting Skynyrd shows out there. Disc 1 is the only known recording of a Skynyrd soundcheck. Ronnie Van Zant is not present. Ronnie rarely did soundchecks, as he wanted to save his voice for the show. Steve Gaines sings Ain't No Good Life, That Smell(!!!), and the 1964 "Jumpin'" Gene Simmons hit "Haunted House". The jams are interesting, and there are parts that may have some day become Skynyrd songs had the plane crash not happened. The last jam did in fact form the basis of You Got That Right later that year. The sound is not great on the soundcheck and it may run a little slow, but it's still worth listening to.

The Doors: Cleveland, Ohio 1968 (Aud) FLAC

c030868
August 3, 1968 (Saturday)
Cleveland Public Auditorium
[Fair Audience Recording]
Master Reel > ANA1 > CDR > EAC > WAV > Flac Frontend > FLAC (lvl 8, SBE aligned)

A 1st gen audience recording. Jim is pretty drunk for this show and has a lot of fun with the audience. Unlike in Miami, he doesn't berate the crowd, but does threaten to kill someone if his monitors aren't turned up as "Five To One" starts. "Hey listen, if I can't hear myself a little bit louder than that, I'm just gonna quit, go out, and kill some people! C'mon!" The band keeps vamping but Jim continues to playfully talk with the audience. After over six minutes of banter he asks, "What song are we singing?" and finally begins the lyrics to "Five To One." After a surprisingly tight version of "When The Music's Over," the band goes into "Soul Kitchen" and during the song's second verse, Jim misses his cue. Toward the end of the song, the band realizes that Jim isn't interested in finishing the lyrics and they break into "Light My Fire." By the end of the concert, Jim is incoherent and screaming more and more until he finally jumps into the audience. He manages to get back onstage (with the help of a number of stage hands) and barely finishes "Light My Fire" before leaving the stage. At the very end of the tape, you can hear the house announcer ask the audience for Jim's coat. ("Has anyone seen Jim Morrison's coat?") Definitely an interesting night as far as Doors shows go. Only wish we had a better quality recording. Enjoy.

This benefit concert (S.N.A.C.K. stands for Students Need Athletics, Culture and Kicks) was organized by Bill Graham in 1975 and was broadcast over the radio, and therefore there are many nice tape copies in circulation. This one time only mixture of Dylan/Band/Young was the featured act in a full day's concert that featured many local San Francisco bands, such as Santana and Jefferson Airplane. The appearance of Neil Young and company was merely rumored and Dylan's performance was a complete surprise. Completely unrehearsed, some of this music is great, but mostly it's just haphazard and rough. Dylan debuts I Want You live, but unfortunately he can't be heard for most of the song. Mostly what we hear is Rick Danko shouting the chorus. Hearing the Band without Robbie Robertson is weird at first, but Ben Keith makes up for it very nicely. The oddest thing on this tape is the Helpless/Knockin' medley where Dylan substitutes "knockin' on the dragon's door" for "knockin' on heaven's door". I have no idea what he meant by it!

Beginning in 1989, the Bilko label began to release some amazing products, such as "Elvis Rocks Little Rock" and "The Request Box Shows." But just as soon as the name Bilko was on every Elvis' fans lips, the label disappeared without a trace and was not heard from for four long years. Their last release, "Hang Loose" a 1970 Las Vegas stage rehearsal from That's the Way It Is left us wanting more. But what did the Bilko label have left? When Bilko finally reemerged in late 1995, Elvis fans around the world were stunned, not just at the sound quality of the first release, but also the contents.
"There's Always Me Volume 1" contains over two hours and twenty minutes worth of great material documenting some of Elvis' first sessions with RCA in the 1950s and most of his Nashville sessions from 19601963. Before I begin talking about the contents track by track, let me say at the outset that the sound quality of these outtakes are amazing; there is a little hissing on some of them, but some of these performances are over 40 years old. Packaged in a deluxe gatefold sleeve, the sleeve contains many glorious pictures from the period covered on the set. For fans of Elvis' early period, this is an invaluable release.
Sound: 8 out of 10.

Excellent show, it is everything you want and speaks for itself.
Great sound and great crowd for MSG. Most hoots, hollars and whistles are only apparent between songs. Regrettably, I turned off the power to one mic, so this is a single mic, double mono recording ... meaning I just copied the left channel into the right channel to give quasi stereo effect. Don't get me wrong, this is still a great recording. I'd bet very few of you would ever have known if I didn't say anything about this fact, but I do believe in full disclosure (probably to a flaw).

Lynyrd Skynyrd, opening for the Marshall Tucker Band.
In my opinion, this is the best 1974 audience recordings of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd band and there aren't many live shows circulating with the Pronounced and Second Helping lineup, with Ed King and Bob Burns...
The band did an encore that night, Crossroads, surely one of the first times they played that song, that was recorded for the live album, One More From The Road.

AC/DC: Comiskey Park 1978 (VG Aud) shn

acdc-Live@SummerJam-1978-08-05
Recorded live at the Summer Jam at Comiskey Park in Chicago, IL on August 5, 1978. Taken from the master tape, this is a great sounding audience recording. The original recording only had the right channel, so this is now R+R mono. There is a short cut in the middle of the guitar solo during "Rocker". Not really distracting if you aren't looking for it. The mix is great, lots of bottom end. The vocals can get a little thin during the more powerful sections, but overall one of the best audience recordings from the entire Bon Scott era. Sound quality is B / B+.

Roger Waters: Columbus, Ohio 1999 (Ex Aud) FLAC

not the cover
In The Flesh Tour '99 8/15/99 Schottenstein Arena
Recorded by Greg Holtz Sonic Solutions mics>Sony PCM-M1 DAT>Hard Disk>Sound Forge editing & tracking>CDR>FLAC
Back in 1999 we heard that Roger Waters was going on tour to support the Amused To Death record, so we hurriedly checked out the tour schedule to see where the closest city was, and it turned out that it was Columbus Ohio. It became apparent that they were booking smallish 3000-5000 seat venues, theaters, etc. Well, we scored
tickets to the Columbus Auditorium show, not so good seats, about 24th row, way off to one side. Well, after the two opening cities, Milwaukee and Chicago, they realized that the demand was much greater than they had anticipated, so they moved all the shows into larger venues...this was AFTER they had sold tickets. Well, in
Columbus Ohio they moved the gig into the Schottenstein Arena, a round basketball arena, and all of a sudden our 24th row side seats turned into 12th row floor seats, stage right, right in front of and under the PA stacks. The was the PA was assembled, kind of in a curve, the sound was coming at us from in front and from above. It was clean and clear sound. They also had effects speakers hanging
around the arena, for the Dogs barking and howling and such. And for icing on the cake, just a few days later they announced a show at Deer Creek, our home venue. The show was inserted into the tour for just a few days after this Columbus show, so we had just a few days off before the Deer Creek show. Even better, when the Deer Creek tickets went on sale locally, there was NOBODY in line to buy tix,
so we got to pretty much cherry pick our seats for that one....sweet spot!
Anyway, enjoy this one...thanks to Dazed64 for all the help.
