SOURCE / LINEAGE
Stereo SBD trade CDR

Trade CDR > EAC v0.99 > computer WAV > TLH v2.4.1 > FLAC 8 > DIME > you
Big thanks to the original taper, and to the trader (sam) who hooked me up with a copy.
This came to me as the first 12 tracks on a 17-track CDR. (trenton81 partial as filler)
I did an EAC extract & pulled those first 12 out of the fileset (ignore 13-17 in the report), made FLACs & there ya go.
No modifications at all, original track marks intact.

OU NOTES: Wow, sweet; a lotta old Fall soundboards are not the best. THIS one is actually really fine, a bit hissy, but you'll take that for the clarity here.
There's a couple spots where the tape speed slips slow for a bit, but then returns to normal. That's about it - very nice overall, given its age.
MES does a nice long rant over the start of Before The Moon Falls.

The unofficial Fall website's listing for this gig is a bit longer:
* uncut Spector / Printhead / Psycho Mafia.
This is all I got for my copy.
Crank it up and ENJOY! it as I have, and share it so others can hear it.
Filenames have numbers on the end that are the TIMES (ex. - "...-359" is 3min59sec long).

Ella Fitzgerald and the Lou Levy Quartet: Amsterdam1961 (FM) FLAC

N Jazz Ella Fitzgerald.link
Amsterdam (Concertgebouw)
18 February, 1961

OU: Last week, a friend of mine here in the Netherlands gave me a CD with (probably) the complete Ella Fitzgerald concert at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, 18 February, 1961. However, his CD ended with a fading St. Louis Blues (TT 5:28), whereas I had the song complete with 1 minute more; I replaced the incomplete St. Louis Blues track from the CD with the complete version from the previous upload.
So here we have now the (imo) MOST COMPLETE VERSION of Ella's Amsterdam concert in February 1961.
Enjoy!

Personnel: Ella Fitzgerald (voc), Lou Levy (p), Herb Ellis (g), Wilfred Middlebrooks (b), Gus Johnson (d)

05 How Long Has This Been Going On (2:51)
06 Heart And Soul (4:02)

Warren Haynes' Christmas Pre-Jam: Ashville 2010 (FM) FLAC

Publication11
The Orange Peel
Asheville, North Carolina, USA
Dec 10, 2010

This post is all about freely sharing some great music, spreading the vibe of these bands, increasing sales of their goods and attendance at their shows, promoting the great work of Habitat For Humanity and having a little fun.

The Warren Haynes' Christmas Jam, an annual benefit for Habitat For Humanity, celebrates it's 22nd year in Asheville, NC in 2010. This is an incredible annual event where an amazing list of musicians donate their time to participate - all proceeds go straight to the cause. Warren always manages to bring a great group of musicians together for an even greater cause.
Warren stages a shorter pre-jam before the real jam the next night at the Civic Center. Now short is a relative term meaning different things to different individuals. Here's Warren's definition - 31 songs spanning over 4 hours of music.
Here's a list of some of the artists on this one. They float in and out. Lots of musical styles represented. Very diverse....and a helluva lot of fun.

*She may not be tracked perfectly. I'll get that outta the way up front.

Per dime's rules had to omit 3 of the 6 Gregg Allman songs he appeared on since he had writing credits.

One of the highlights of this event for me each year is the cool cover songs. Among the artists covered this year - John Lennon, Freddie King, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Robert Johnson, and Elmore James.
This is an FM with some slight fuzzies here and there (we're still using the barbed wire surrounding our pastures, tractor parts and coffee cans to jump the FM up to the house out here in the country) but these are mostly unnoticeable during the musical portions. Hopefully if there's a cleaner copy out there and someone has the inclination to invest the time to track and post this behemoth they will do so. Check the samples and use the democratic process.
As has become a holiday tradition, here's one from Doodee Claus. Y'all enjoy.
Trade only. Support Warren Haynes and all the artists by buying their records and merchandise and attending their shows. More importantly, please support Habitat For Humanity. Support your local public radio station as well.

Todd Rundgren's Utopia: London 1977 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

Todd-utopia-atlanta-77
New Victoria Theatre, London
1977-02-02
lineage: Aud cassette unknown gen> CDR>EAC>WAV>TLH>Flac level 6> YOU>

OU: The second of two nights at this large venue and the last show of the European tour. I was at this show on the day after my 16th birthday and have clear memories of it especially the energy of TR as he leapt and whirled around the stage and of the climax of Singring when the glass guitar was ceremoniously smashed triggering a mirror ball effect throughout the auditorium. Magical. In retrospect, I remember feeling disappointed that we weren't seeing the original band but seeing as they had never played the UK it is something of a revelation to revisit this show and realise that a lot of the set was the same as the Hammersmith 75 show and the RA numbers were actually very good indeed although I wish they had done Seven Rays.
Thanks to Roger Hiorns for the CD in trade. I don't know where it originates from nor the name of the taper but "good job". It is a particularly fine stereo audience recording.

SBD: "Something Is Happening On Mr. Jones' Beach" (Rattlesnake) LB-5099
AUD: Sony D3 Walkman > Sony CDRs > FLAC (A Doinker Tape) LB-5100

OU: The soundboard was captured via FM reception on a assisted listening device. It was released as "Something Is Happening On Mr. Jones' Beach" (Rattlesnake RS029/030/031). The sound is very clear but there is lots of weird sounding quick fades especially when the vocals are strong. This sounds like it is from heavy FM compression. The mix is very dry and there is no venue ambience present.
The Doinker audience recording was captured stage center, about 30 rows back. It was recorded on a Sony D3 Walkman and was ported to two Sony cdr's before being converted to FLAC(6) using Nero.
Babe It Ain't No Lie is missing from the SBD source. The first 50 seconds of Highway 61 Revisited are missing from the AUD source. There are too many cuts and dropouts in both sources to list them all. Everything now fades in and out real smooth.
The combination of these two sources makes for a very nice listen. I have always found the SBD to be unlistenable given all its strange audible blemishes. However, the Doinker tape brings out the clarity of the SBD recording. When the heavy compression reduces the db of the SBD the AUD is always right there to make up for the SBD drop. The AUD is very warm and adds so much dimension to the Matrix it is almost silly to try to write about it.

Matrix: both sources > WAV > Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 > WAV > FLAC(8)

Traders Little Helper was used to decode original lossless FLAC files to WAV and to convert back to FLAC. Cakewalk was used to align, speed-correct, join, separate and fade all tracks. No EQ was used on this matrix. Shelter From The Storm and Maggie's Farm can be joined together seamlessly for longer media.

SBD/AUD Matrix and Artwork by OctopusRider February 2009.
Special thanks to Doinker for supplying both sources.

This is a well known, excellent sounding audience recording by the great Mike Millard. I think EV did a very nice job with the Millard source and used splices of an alternate source to fill the small gaps. The performance is very good although once again there's confusion about the form on The Crunge.
The sound is very clear and powerful but could use a bit more bass IMO though so adjust as you prefer. This is a very worthwhile download. Nice cover art too.
Enjoy!

Warning/Disclaimer: This recording should not be confused with the series labeled "The Dan Lampinski Tapes Volume XX". This recording represents part of Dan's earliest efforts to capture the live concert experience for posterity, hence the series name "Dan Lampinski - The Early Years Volume XX". Given the very consistent high quality of Dan's later work, it would have been easy to blow off these recordings and consign them to the dustbin of history, but there are quite a few captures in the series that are well worth circulating, if not for their rarity, but for the obsessive collector types (we know who we are) that want every single second of any recordings of their favourite musicians. So please, just accept these recordings for what they are, another part of the tapestry we weave when we collect and share such things.
Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.
Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.
Always remember - the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you.

OU Comments: We lined up for this concert in the day of the concert around 8:00 in the morning to be as close as we could. After the gates opened at 5 in the afternoon, we ran fast to get inside the circle. We ended up right in front of Bono (3 meters away).
This was one of the best concerts that we saw in Europe. The crowd was really into it, and "Spanish Eyes" sounded really great after the last time it was played (9 years ago in Barcelona during the Elevtion Tour). Through this show other songs sounded really good too, Mercy, MLK, With Or Without You, Moment of Surrender , etc, a truly musical journey as someone said awhile ago :)
This recording is 99% without drops, it's almost a clean recording and a pleasure to listen to. The instruments and voice are almost like a soundboard, Edge's guitar is just awesome. You'll really feel "closer" to the band.
Enjoy it!!

Albion Christmas Band: Pavillion Hailsham 2010 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

Publication1
Pavillion Hailsham, England 2010.12.11 Hi-MD PCM master flac
Skytronics mic/ Sony RH1 Hi-MD PCM/ Sonic Stage to wav via USB/ adobe audition> Tracks> fades> Flac 6
Checksum files done in Traders Little Helper
OU: An excellent concert with top class sound - recorded from the front row to the right of centre - just so you know you have headphones on the right way round.

For those interested - A Brief History of the Hailsham Pavilion
Hailsham Pavilion Cinema was erected as a purpose built 'picture palace' in 1921 on land previously owned by a Dr. Nicholson and Dr. Gould.
Prior to this, films had been shown at 'The Corn Exchange' behind the Crown Inn (now renamed the Corn Exchange) in the High Street. Some residents at the time regarded the Pavilion as a 'new fangled upstart of a cinema'.
The Pavilion was officially opened on Monday 28th November 1921 by A.K. Burtenshaw JP. The Hailsham Town Band had earlier played around the town and at the cinema entrance where a large number had assembled. As a special attraction, for the opening performance "The Kid" starring Charlie Chaplin had been booked, and the first house was crowded.
Prior to re-decoration after the war, the interior paintwork was primrose and pink and decorative wall panels were picked out in gold leaf. Some interior panelling was oak and the front doors were french polished. Curtains in front of the screen were red velvet and were originally operated by hand.
Owners of the Cinema were a Mr Shipman and Mr King, the former often playing the piano in the 'orchestra pit' at weekends. Sarah Castle was also one of the first to play the piano here for the silent movies. During the latter years it was managed by a Mr. Gilbert, and many of the then employees (usherettes and projectionists) are still known to live in Hailsham.
At the height of its popularity, the Cinema opened every day (a Sunday licence was obtained during the war years when Canadian troops were stationed in the area). Films were shown twice a day (opening hours were 4.30pm to 10.30pm) for three days with a change of programme on Mondays and Thursdays - a separate film was shown on Sundays.
After it was closed in 1965, it stood empty until an application for change of use to a Bingo Club was approved in 1967. Five year permits were renewed in 1972, 1977 and 1982.
In 1973 a conservation grant for renovation of the facade (under the 1962 Act) recommended re-painting of the general elevation in magnolia, with recesses in mocha and embellishments in pale lilac. Prior to this the facade had always been painted in one colour - cream.
Officially listed as a Grade II building of historic and architectural interest and in the Conservation Area of Halisham, it has been described as having "a classical facade, and is possibly one of the most elaborate small provincial cinemas ever built. Two storeys. Three windows. Stuccoed. Each window, flanked by Ionic pilasters with rusticated quoins on the outside. Modillion cornice, parapet and curved pediment over the centre window bay. Ground floor windows flanked by pilasters with cornice over. Doorway with engaged columns. Round windows in moulded architrave surrounds on first floor, the centre one flanked by plaster figures of children - the girl carrying a basket of flowers, the boy a basket of bread and fish".
It has a 2400 square feet inclined auditorium originally having a seating capacity for a total of 397, with the seats placed nearly to the wall backing on to the Box Office. No Kiosk, Stairs, or Ladies' toilet existed at that time.
The building ceased to be used for Bingo in 1985, remaining empty until in 1987 it was sold by auction for a sum in excess of £65,000 reputedly for a combined retail and residential development. Thereafter it again stood empty and unused.
In photographs taken prior to its closure, some damage by dampness on the ceiling at this point was already evident. It is known that some damage to the roof and ceiling was sustained when a bomb fell on the Post Office during the second World War. It is understood that just following the closure of the Bingo Club, contractors were seen to be working on the roof, which was stripped, re-felted and battened - and then abandoned.
By 1991, having been totally neglected for four years, much work was needed, mainly to prevent the ingress of rain through the roof which had caused severe damage to the ornate plaster ceiling resulting in its collapse in some parts. This is a false barrelled ceiling fixed to the underside of steel roof trusses. The original pitched roof on the north side was of square red asbestos tiles laid diamond pattern. On the south side, the whole covering of tiles was missing; roofing felt and battens appeared to be mostly intact from the outside although from the inside, holes were visible at various places resulting in the boarding having rotted. At the western end, a large area from ridge to eaves appeared to have been pulled back leaving a great open hole allowing entry of rain and vandals. Some of the damage to the plaster ceiling had been caused deliberately by vandals entering this way.
Some of the original seating was still in place in 1991, but badly damaged by damp and mould growth, the remaining seating having been removed and piled up in the corner. They were replaced with tables and seat for use by the bingo patrons. Mould growth and dampness had also caused much damage to the carpeting throughout.
Despite dampness and vandal damage to much of the fittings, the general structure of the building appeared to be sound and in some strange way retained an atmosphere reminiscent of the old Victorian theatres and picture palaces.
The entrance foyer included a central ticket office area (facing the front doors) with steps on either side leading to the auditorium. A narrow winding staircase still leads to storerooms and the projection room (above the ticket office) on the first floor. Some fire damage had occured in the projection room, otherwise the whole first floor was inhabited by pigeons which had easy access through open and broken windows in the facade.
The stage area of the auditorium was small, being little more than a raised dais or platform. Behind this was a decorative, but false, proscenium on the solid rear wall of the auditorium. At the rear of the main building was a raised storeroom/boiler room of fairly large dimensions but too small to accommodate sufficent backstage facilities.
However, the value of the site in 1991, apart from the unique facade, lay in its [a] location in the town centre but close to car parks and public houses (The George Hotel is directly opposite), [b] the solid structure (solid concrete floors on the ground and first floor levels, steel roof trusses), [c] the sloping auditorium, [d] the decorative moulded plaster work, [e] the theatre entrance, layout and facilities, and [f] its adequate but intimate bijou accommodation and atmosphere.
It was felt then that all these characteristics would have been difficult to re-create at reasonable cost in a new building or converted building not already possessing such adornments with the atmosphere being totally irreplaceable. Hence the saving of the building was imperative before it was lost for all time.
The biggest disadvantage was, of course, the cost of acquiring the building itself before another development company or entrepreneur could get their hands on it.
In 1993, the refurbishment and restoration became the dream of former Hailsham Town Mayor, June Bourne. She was getting to the end of her term of office and had £1400 left in her expenses which she wanted to use for the community's benefit. After consulting with the other Councillors, it was decided to open a building society account to start raising funds for the restoration of the Pavilion. A Supporters' association was formed, Hailsham Old Pavilion Society (HOPS), with members paying £5 a year subscription.
As the owners of the Pavilion were then in receivership, Wealden District Council issued a compulsory purchase order and arranged for necessary 'boarding up' work to be carried out to make the building weather proof and safe.
By the end of 1999, HOPS had over 800 members and had raised almost £100,000 from the local community to help towards the cost of the restoration. A grant of £275,500 was received from the Heritage Lottery Fund, and together with Partnership Funding of £50,000 from Wealden District Council, £12,500 from East Sussex County Council, £7,500 from Hailsham Town Council, £1,500 from Environment Hailsham and £1,000 from Hailsham Rotary Club, plus an unexpected contribution of £27,000 when the Trustees of the Hailsham Town Bus wound-up the organisation, completed the main funding to allow this £0.5 million scheme to go ahead.
As the lottery grant was awarded on a heritage remit, the restoration had to stay true to the original design in keeping with the grade II listed status, this gave the architect, builders and specialist craftsmen many technical and other problems to overcome.
Having rescued the cinema, the next challenge was to keep it open. As was the case in its original days, the cinema is not large enough to afford first run films and will usually be a few weeks behind the new multiplex units in nearby Eastbourne, Uckfield and Brighton.
What it does have, however, is 203 seats (plus facilities for wheelchairs) and is able to offer a uniquely friendly atmosphere with costs (particularly ticket prices) being kept low with many people working here as volunteers. A 31-year lease on a "peppercorn rent" was arranged by Wealden District Council for HOPS to make the facilities available as an amenity for Hailsham and the surrounding district.
The Pavilion was officially opened on Tuesday 1st February 2000 by June Bourne, Chairman of HOPS and Vice Chairman of Hailsham Pavilion Limited, a company formed to act as the commercial arm of the enterprise.
The assembled gathering at the opening ceremony was treated to a slide show of still pictures taken during the restoration, and two short demonstration films. During her address, June Bourne declared "that her dream had come true". "Standing here today" she said "brings back a lot of happy memories from the days when I used to visit the cinema and it is really exciting to think that the present day residents of Hailsham and the surrounding area will be able to come to their own cinema once again and enjoy the big screen entertainment".

Moby: Lucca Summer Festival 2009 (FM) FLAC

REWORKED version- DJ-Talking cut out
moby
Saturday 25th July 2009, 21:41 hours
Piazza Napoleone, Lucca (Tuscany, Italy)

Live FM radio broadcast by "I Concerti di Radio1", Radio Uno RAI [first channel of italian national radio], from an open air show. Piazza Napoleone is one of Lucca main city squares.

NOTICES:
1- RadioUno can broadcast only the first 90 mins or so of the concert, which fades out to give space to night-time radio news, at 11 o'clock. As far as as I know, there are no plans for a future broadcast of the missing tracks. And I strongly doubt they will ever do.
2- as in italian radio customs, the DJ speaks a lot in-between songs. His purpose is to translate in italian what the musicians say, the introductions to every song and bits of the history of the band. It may gets VERY annoying, and trust me it does, thus we might consider this recording only for completists. But the songs, the actual music, are usually not spoken over.
3- also, this recording doesn't sound all that good! I haven't been able, for a couple of weeks now, to get a proper reception, with quite a weak signal, and the broadcast features a heavy FM hiss. Sorry.

The Beetles: The Seven Years of Christmas (Studio) FLAC

The Seven Years of Christmas

Each year from 1963 to 1969, the Beatles had recorded a short Christmas message for their fans, composed of carols, skits, jokes, and thanks to the loyal "Beatle People".

The version of Christmas Time (Is Here Again) released on the Free As A Bird CD Single is the complete long version of the song. On the 1967 Christmas flexi the song appears in quite a different context, being constantly interrupted by Beatles dialog.

NME Review
Guns N' Roses were bottled by fans last night (September 1) at the Dublin O2 venue. They left the stage as a result, after playing for just 20 minutes, but returned later to complete their show.
Axl Rose's band were over an hour late onstage for the performance, reports BBC Newsbeat. During 'Welcome To The Jungle', Rose stopped the song and addressed the crowd.
"If you don't want to have fun, all you've got to do is let us know," he said. "We've got no problem - we'll go on our way." Three songs later they left the stage.
A member of the venue staff then addressed the crowd, saying they were "trying hard" to get the frontman to agree to return to the stage. After a 35-minute break the band did return to complete their set, but by this time many fans had left the venue.
To see fan footage of the incident download the videos at the bottom.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse: Heidelberg 1976 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

18-03-76 EPPELHEIM cover

Reel to Reel Master --> lst gen. cassette--> played back on Nakamichi CR-7E --> Marantz DR700
Patched and speed corrected by hanno
Patches:
lst 30 seconds of Down By The River
all of the encore Barstool Blues

OU: This is a definitive version of the Heidelberg 1976 show. The recording came out very well considering the equipment available in the mid-70s. In those days people were not standing to watch a show but rather would sit down. Thus it was easy to put the microphone on the floor and get a decent recording. It worked very well for the acoustic part but due to some smoke coming from our place an American GI noticed it and came over and sat next to us for the electric set. He was not one of the quiet kind. The missing part of Down By The River happened because I flipped the tape over. The encore is missing on my recording because everyone was getting up and rushing to the stage so I had no chance to get my equipment set up again.
Fortunately some 15 years later I found out that the famous German taper HB also taped this show but his unfortunately has weaker sound quality. Still it was nice to fill in the missing gaps.
This show still contains an unreleased song Sad Movies aka Day and Night We Walked These Aisles.
For your pleasure I have included pictures of the poster and tour advertisement. You can also see the equipment I used.

Acoustic Set:
1. Tell Me Why

Paul McCartney: Back To The Eggs Early Takes and Interview 1978 (FLAC)

mpl-1-a-front
Mega-rare restored vinyl "Scrambled Egg" Speed corrected and rejoined!

OU: According to BootlegZone, these as-yet unidentified tracks are early versions of "Back To The Egg". I picked this super-rare 7" vinyl in a record store in Milan, Italy in 1989. Unidentified means that exact dates and sessions are unknown, but some tracks are listed as being recorded in July and September 1978. It's a great, humorous set with a fine interview bookmarking the tracks. This EP ran almost a third of a semitone too fast. That's also been corrected.

Setlist (Run time 17m 52s):
Intro Interview (unknown date and interviewer)
Old Siam, Sir (July 1978)
Arrow Through Me (July 1978)
Winter Rose (unknown)
Love Awake (September 1978)
Hoe Down (unknown)
Outro Interview (unknown date and interviewer)

Lineage: MPL001 LP -> sound Forge ->-34.8 cents speed correction ->Track split up ->FLAC via TLH, level 6, sectors aligned and verified, FLAC integrity checked.
Enjoy!

Updated 91 minutes ago 12/18/2010 12:35:50 AM +00:00 Don Van Vliet, better known as pioneering blues and rock musician Captain Beefheart, has died in California from complications of multiple sclerosis at age 69, a representative for the artist said on Friday.

..Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band rose to prominence during the 1960s with an experimental brand of rock music that was inspired by the blues and featured offbeat rhythms and lyrics.

Their best known album is 1969's "TroutMask Replica," and while it was not a commercial hit, it won critical acclaim and is still considered among the most prominent art-rock albums ever made.

Vliet was born Jan. 15, 1941, in Glendale, Calif. As a teenager, he befriended Frank Zappa, whose own brand of experimental music became popular in the 1960s and 1970s.

Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band released their first album, "Safe as Milk," in 1967, featuring songs with titles like "Zig Zag Wanderer" and "Abba Zaba." While band members would change over the years, the group continued to crank out music through the 1970s up to 1982's "Ice Cream for Crow."

Vliet retired from music after 1982 and turned to painting, enhancing his reputation as a member of the avant-garde.

Vliet is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Jan Van Vliet.

RIP

oops

I combined the links of the duplicates that I posted today with their original post and rolled them back a few days (they are still there).
I posted a couple new ones to make up the difference.

Thx for the help and have a great weekend!

OU: This show was recoreded from the 19th row center section. The crowd was very lively during the entire performance. The entire show had a "Rock Concert" feel to it. Each of the band members worked the crowd in both the first half and second half. Lots of Screaming! This made it very difficult to obtain a clean recording, but a good audience recording none the less.
Enjoy the show.
