Lineage: very low ("probably 2nd") gen reel->CDR->EAC->SoundForge (level adjustments, speed correction, editing, re-tracking)->FLAC Frontend

Yes, the Probably 2nd Gen Series continues, and again, I trust my source - this is obviously very low gen. Also a very good audience recording for its age, close to a solid B+. A chunk of King Kong is missing, probably due to reel change, but other than that, this seems to be a rather complete recording. Speed fluctuations gave me some headache, and the end result is not 100% perfect, but I think it's only noticable if you have perfect pitch, or play along on an instrument.

OU Comments: This came out very nice. I had seen the band Umphrey's McGee three times in this theater, and each time I thought the venue acoustics sucked. I was wrong, as this show sounded very good from where I was sitting, about 13 rows back left center. The sound got better a few songs in (usual for a Yes concert). The first few songs seemed to lack energy to me, but things got going around "Yours Is No Disgrace" and stayed energetic from there. I had quiet people sitting on either side of me, so there's not too much crowd noise. My only complaint is the setlist. Only two numbers (not counting Steve's solo) that they didn't play the last two times I saw them in 2008 & 2009. That's a long time to be playing the same set. But what they did play was good. This was an enjoyable evening.

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.
He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.
Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.
Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.
Always remember - the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you.

OU: Well, my first U2 concert and it's the one where Bono had voice problems. The concert was Ok en I think Bono was really pissed off when his voice let him down. The two other additional shows (19th & 20th Dec) were also cancelled and the band announced 4 new shows after the new year in Rotterdam. The concert organisator (Mojo) said to keep the tickets for a new show, but that was not the case.
Well if you had tickets for the cancelled show of the 19th Dec 1989, you could changed it for the 5th or 6th of Jan 1990. If you had tickets for the 20th, you could change it for the 9th or 10th Jan 1990. The ticket holders who attended the original 1st show (Dec 18th) were not able to get any tickets. But later the stage could move more to the back, a few 2000 tickets came available over the 4 nights. So that was a lottery and the people who were left out got their money back. So I got my money back but luckly I obtained tickets for the 1st show in R'dam via an advert in the newspaper.

All songs are complete with the only cut at the tape flip during the audience cheering between Magic Bus/Amazing Journey.
After about a seven week layoff The Who returned to the stage for the first night of their 'Worldwind Tour' which consisted of 2 shows at the Capital Centre just outside Washington D.C. and 2 shows in Florida. Despite being a little rusty this was a great show, as was the following night. This was my first long road trip to see The Who, and this first night I was in the eighth row, on Pete's side of the stage. This is one of my best Who recordings. I've included a couple of photos I took during Sparks this night.tapeboy for JEMS

Jimi Hendrix: Message From Nine To The Universe 1969-70 (Studio) FLAC

001353e5_medium
XLD Rip
Flac (Tracks) Cue, Log, m3u, md5, st5, ffp
complete Artwork 300 dpi
Reclamation | RECD1012 (released 2006)

Drawn from various sessions recorded between March 1969 and March 1970 some of the music featured on this disc originally appeared on the album Nine To The Universe. At the time of the albums release (1980) many suggested that Jimi was heading in a jazz direction although the recordings show no real sign of this despite featuring contributions from known jazzers such as Larry Young and Dave Holland both of whom had worked with British jazz guitarist John McLaughlin and worked along with McLaughlin on the landmark Miles Davis album Bitches Brew.
The recordings here are the unedited recordings that Alan Douglas utilised to make his final selection on the original Nine To The Universe album. At the time the release was heralded as the final unreleased recordings to be made available for Alan Douglas to shape into a releasable album. Time and subsequent releases however have obviously proved that there were and indeed are many recordings still lying in the vaults that are awaiting release. In essence the music contained on this disc could be described as a series of jams. With Jimi inviting other musicians into the studio with him to try out new musical ideas. Alan Douglas merely fashioned an album out of the material here although in his defence he did a fair job in trying to deliver a commercial album the record label could market.
These performances however are the real raw material and as such are now heard in the correct context rather than the edited pieces that appeared on the 1980 album. Here the pieces are longer and looser and they give a much better idea of how Jimi worked in a studio and drew on many influences. Of the material here only Lover Man ever made it to a fully fashioned live performance where it made the set regularly from late summer 1969 through to just before Jimis death in September 1970. Jimi preformed this song more famously during the Woodstock Festival and also at the Isle Of Wight Festival just weeks before his death and is featured on the live albums drawn from recordings of those events and also on the Live At Berkley album recorded in May 1970.
The quality of these studio tracks is stunning and it is far more interesting to hear the full versions of the songs that Alan Douglas used for his edited version of Nine To The Universe in 1980 and as such places that album in far better perspective. These recordings have been described as jams although Jimis creative spark is present throughout the sessions. Despite the claims that Jimi was to move in a more jazz oriented direction and Miles Davis had expressed an interest in working with him there seems to be no evidence on these recordings that Jimi would have moved in any direction other than the one he wanted to. These recordings then are considered historic and as cutting edge as Jimi Hendrix ever was but the style is all of Jimis making.
The disc claims to be "officially licensed from the estate of Hendrix's former manager, Michael Jeffrey" and is a "limited edition - only 1500 copies world-wide", but I think this is just a good trick by the bootleggers to make it look a little bit more like an official release. OU: Someone graciously offered me this little golden nugget to torrent. Donated anonymously in order to protect future trading sources.
Reportedly taken from the soundboard of the gig, this is a passage from Povey's ITF book on that performance:
"Hilversum 3 Radio were recording this show for a future broadcast, but after a microphone failure early in the show the band were forced to perform an instrumental set and as a result the show was never broadcast"
So we've got a short set of 4 numbers with absolutely no vocals, but the SQ is amazing, even before you take the age of the recording into consideration.

Review: This is a pretty good show but not tops although this is one of the best if not the best recording board as for the sound. It reaches the same peak level as the official releases! Robert's voice is in pretty bad shape, but the instrumental machine is playing fine. Jones and Bonham in particular are wonderful, with Bonham reaching a peak of playing in Sick Again and In My Time Of Dying that is staggering. Well presented mellotron has been introduced tonight: "John Paul Jones played mellotron, a very cheap form of orchestration ... and he doesn't cost that much to rent either!" No Quarter could be a fine version but is cut. Trampled Underfoot is outstanding and vocal lyrics near the end are awesome. Also the audience was rather dull so Plant was trying to inject the life to the crowd: "Why don't you wake up, c'mon!" -Argenteum Astrum

Info: Crystal Cat has unleashed the new kitty of CDs for the 2001 tour. The packages are every bit as stunning as the 2000 crop. The full color, four page booklet provides a wealth of venue photos and info. The discs are the standard Crystal Cat logo CDs with various color motifs. The back photo, and overall aesthetics remain similar. What has changed dramatically is the front cover. Gone is the bland looking ticket stub of the previous year; to be replaced with a sensual cartoon pinup girl of years past. With the addition of the new 2001 material from the incredible "Love and Theft" album, the pinup girl image just seems to fit with the music of a simpler, more innocent time. Needles to say, the quality of the recording is simply breathtaking.

Review: This is the first concert after the tragic events of September 11, 2001. It is yet another stellar, powerhouse performance among the many along this incredible tour. Crystal Cat has perfected the art of the digital audience recording, and this is one more feather in their cap. The lyrics to 'High Water' are included. They were transcribed from the CD, having gone to press before the official release of the printed lyrics of the new album became public. The performance is near flawless, with too many highlights to mention. The vocals are way out front, and full of power. Highly recommended.

Review from Tight But Loose website: Empress Valley have come up trumps with this release. The sound quality is simply stunning and it is hard to tell the difference between the audience and the soundboard tapes. As much of the show as exists has been assembled, and the editing between the two recordings is seamless. It was however a bit of an overindulgence to release the soundboard tape by itself as the third disc, this really should have been a two disc composite. Having said that it is still the best version ever of this great show. (Jules McTrainspotter Nov 01).

Review from Saitoh: I personally agree that during HMMT, the slice to the soundboard to complete the song (and medleys) is very VERY hard to pick up. it is so well done (it took me 3 listenings to figure out it's just a couple seconds before 9min flat, and that's with the knowledge of where the Divinity source ended). While the soundboard is decent quality (not stunning, but it is easily better then the previous Charisma release), it has been heavily tweaked, and evidence of this can be heard during some of the quiet parts of the medley (it's not aggrivating, but revieling more or less).
While this is originally a 3 disc release (notice the matrix numbers at the top), I'm not posting the very last disc. Why? Because it's just the partial soundboard tape that is in circulation, and since the audience tape is better quality (for 1970, that's a scary, scary thought), it's not worth the time to post and download IMHO (if someone wants it I'll post it, but I dont think its needed as the above reviewer noted).
final note by dt (tilly) - I guess somebody wanted it, because this entire rip came directly from Saitoh, shared on DC. Notes and comments complete.

Pink Floyd: Condor 1987 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

front
1987-11-26 - Pink Floyd World Tour - Condor NZ 1989
PF-DB Comments: It's sound quality is excellent. The people who listed the songs on the back of the CD case were idiots, though. The songs are listed as: ..., Learning to Fly, A New Machine Part 1, Terminal Frost,..., when in actuality "Yet Another Movie/Round and Around" comes before "A New Machine Part 1". In any case, it's about 70 minutes long and is the best quality I've ever heard from a roio - even the crowd was reasonably quiet near the guy. -ECLIPSE
Although the music on the disc is correctly cited (with the exception noted above), it frequently (maybe always?) bears the legend: "TONGUE TIED AND TWISSTED [sic] NZCD 89021". This CD and "Tongue Tied & Twisted" were produced by the same company, the difference in packaging being an attempt to confound the authorities (the implied Australian connection on the packaging is entirely bogus for that reason - the CDs were produced in Korea on behalf of a US-based distributor). - THE HEDONIST Note that this entry is directly equivalent to the Toasted Condor entry of the same name.

OU: COMPLETE DEMO TRACKS OF "THE WALL" ALBUM Recorded at The Floyd's Britannia Row Studios (Sept-Dec, 1978 & Late 1979) & Super Bear Studio(April-Aug 1979) in France.
This is just like being in the studio with the Floyd! This is the studio demo track they drawn on to record the final mix of their "Wall" album: every track IS a radically different unreleased version to the album's. It includes loads of unedited mixes, never released tracks (merged into other songs), different lyrics, original sound collages etc ...
Without the full lush arrangements you get a good idea of what Roger Waters had in mind when he first conceived The Wall: a dry, alienating & beautiful descent into his tormented mind.
It is a real surprise is to hear the band as the original 4 piece experimenting like in "the good old days" with all sorts of different ideas that didn't make it onto the final mix for most: various synth lines, weird sounds, raw guitars, strange sound collages etc... One can appreciate the massive task of editing and changing most of these songs to fit on the double album we all know.
It is "The Wall" like you have never heard it before: just brilliant!!
Cheers
Hoka

Melissa Etheridge: Chicago 1989 (FM) FLAC

MelissaEtheridge
Park West, Chicago, IL
October 13, 1989
WXRT FM
EX Quality
Nakamichi BX12S > Maxell XLII-S > Yamaha CDR D651 > Maxell Music CD > iTunes > xACT
This show was broadcast in its entirety live on WXRT Chicago. I believe that this recording is incomplete due to the cut during the 4th song and because it's so short for a full set. Regardless, it is a great show and a great recording. Enjoy!

1. Onstage DJ intro/The Angels
2. You Used to Love to Dance
3. Testify
4. Chrome Plated Heart (cut in middle, may be another song's ending)
5. Band Intros
6. Bring Me Some Water
7. Let's Get It On (Marvin Gaye)
8. Like the Way I Do (cut at approx. 5:10, tape flip, edited w/Audacity)
9. Let Me Go
10. Ready to Love
Enjoy!

Jimmy Page & Jaco Pastorius: Fannie Mae Jam 1985

3797534
4-30-85 New York
Type 1 Cassette(Unknown lineage)>Wav>Flac
Track 1
Track 2

I have no idea what the song titles are supposed to be. Track 1 is a long jam. If its supposed to be a medley, it coulda fooled me. Track 2 is the same song that Page played with Santana in Berlin in July 1980. My version of this New York show only ran about 30 minutes. I obtained it in this form nearly 20 years ago. If there was/is more to this date, I'm unaware. Concerning the NY/Paris gigs that are out and about, the set represented there is different (I can only assume). Anyway, great quality, save for the hiss. One hellacious jam.
