lineage: WBCN 104.1 FM radio pre-recorded broadcast > Yamaha 500 receiver with digital tuner and wire FM antenna > Nak. BX-125 cassette deck (dolby off) > Maxell XLII-S 90 min. master cassette > played on Nak. 300 in to soundforge (wav) > flac (sb's aligned)
A this and that production. Do not sell this recording. Share freely, losslessly and gaplessly.

OU comments: This was the 1st US tour for then 21 year old Sinéad who was riding the hugely popular debut album "the lion and the cobra". At the time of this posting (late March 2012) there was just one other earlier USA Sinéad show, five days before this one from March 26th at the World in N.Y.C.
eight songs played in this broadcast are heard in that (studio) record, all except for the Smiths one, including all three of the ones that became singles. if an Irish artist wants to make it big in the USA Boston is a good place to start. there's a very large Irish population in Boston area, it was one of the first places beyond Ireland that U2 became hugely popular, and Sinéad O'Connor also became very popular in short time in the Little Ireland of New England.
her second album, "I do not want what I haven't got" wasn't released until 1990, including probably her most popular hit around here, "nothing compares to you"
there is a live video recorded just a couple of months later (June 3, 1988) at the Dominion Theater in London UK with seven songs from the debut album, and another one called "the year of the horse" recorded in Brussels and Rotterdam in late Oct. 1990, and a couple of others recorded in the 2000's.

Robin Trower: St Louis 1980 (Pre-FM Vinyl) FLAC

RTstlouisFr
Victims Of The Fury Tour, live at Kiel Opera House, St Louis, Missouri; March 26, 1980. Excellent pre-FM stereo (”The Source” NBC Radio Network Pre-FM Double LP Transcription Set).
Lineage: Vinyl > Unknown Needledrop > WAV > FLAC
Thanks to Hipstone for sharing the tracks at Demonoid.

Here is some background from luciferburns: After touring extensively all through 1977 and, for that matter, for the past five years, Robin Trower decided to take a break. No “live” shows were preformed in 1978 or 1979. That’s not to say he didn’t keep busy. His 6th solo release (not counting the “Live” album), “Caravan To Midnight”, was released in 1978. But no tours took place to promote “Caravan To Midnight”. And, to the best of my knowledge, no songs have ever been performed live from it to this very day!
So after this two-year break, Robin came bouncing back with the lineup trimmed back to a trio. Gone was Rustee Allen on bass and James Dewar returned to his original role as the band’s bassist. Robin Trower’s 7th solo release, “Victims Of The Fury”, was a huge success and probably his best-selling release since “Bridge Of Sighs”. Again he toured extensively through the UK and USA. Unfortunately, for some reason after the “Victims Of The Fury” tour, Robin Trower would once again take a long absence from touring… until 1984!

01 Lady Love
02 The Ring
03 Day of the Eagle

07 The Shout > Hannah

OU Notes: Mastered from Pre-FM 2xLP transcription set. Editing, indexing and very light pop and click removal by hipstone. No filtering, EQ, or any other processing.
Please support Robin and the band by purchasing their officially relaesed material.
Many thanks to hipstone who posted this at demonoid. There was no original text document in the fileset.

Tommy Bolin: Outtakes and Demos 1976 (Studio) FLAC

1
Private Eyes Outtakes, demos and rehearsals 1976
source: studio outtakes and demos
length: 52.20
quality: varying from A to B, most of it sounds pretty darn good

Here´s another gem. I got 19 tracks in total, many of which were simply shite. I´m sure everybody recalls the early 90´s when people started "karaoke"-ing studiosongs, i.e. trying to bury the vocals whilst enhancing portions of the music/instruments. Some cd-players even had a button for this. True, the overall emphasis changes which makes some stuff which might be buried in the mix more prominent, but it´s still just the regular studioversion of the song. In any case some people liked to tape such tampered songs and call them "demos", and this disk had a bunch of those. All those tracks were sorted out from here and disposed of, and I tried my best to find the remaining tracks on any official releases. No such tracks were found.
I love these, especially the haunting Sweet burgundy and the naked Hello, again. Oh, I let tracks 12 and 13 stay on even though I cannot say for sure that they were part of these sessions, maybe someone here recognizes them?

1. You told me that you love me
* Instrumental, totally different guitarparts.
2. Shake the devil
* Outtake, diff. mix, longer ending
3. Sweet burgundy
* Outtake, no guitar, different vocals
4. Hello, again
* Outtake, guitar and vocals only, no strings overdubbed
5. Gypsy soul
* Outtake, almost 40 seconds longer outro
6. Gypsy soul
* demo, acoustic guitar + vocals
7. Gypsy soul
* rehearsal/demo, two guitars + bass
8. Bustin´ out for Rosey
* demo, different vocals
9. Someday will bring our love home
* instrumental demo
10. Someday will bring our love home
* acoustic instrumental, two guitars
11. Post toastee
* acoustic demo, guitar + vocals
12. Untitled instrumental
* outtake
13. Guitar snippet
* 53 seconds, Tommy counts in and plays a riff.
ENJOY!!!

Frank Zappa: Albuquerque 1980 (VG Aud) FLAC

zappa80-nm-fr-h
"Duke City Debut"
Johnson Gym
Albuquerque, NM, USA
1980-10-12
Featuring Jimmy Carl Black (The Indian Of The Group)

CONTRAST CLAUSE: This is not the same as the DrZap version uploaded previously, which has fallen off the tracker. This recording is from a different taper in a different location.
The DrZap version is binaural, while this version is mono. The DrZap version is very clean, but is lacking somewhat in the low end. This version, while not as clean, is still very good, with better low end. Both tapers were using C-90 cassettes, as evidenced by the fact that both versions have a tape flip during "City Of Tiny Lights". DrZap's flip occurs during a lyric, and is missing a line or two. This version was flipped a bit earlier, during an instrumental portion of the song. The splice in this version is virtually un-noticeable.
See notes below for more mastering details.

Original recording: Sony mono cassette recorder (built-in mic) > Master cassette > Nakamichi 500 > Revox A77 reel at 3.75 ips (Dolby B encoded by Advent 100A Processor)
Digital Transfer: Revox A77 (thru TEAC AN-80 Dolby Processor) > HHB 830 Standalone > CD

Artwork created by Roddenberry using my photos from the show. Due to my mistakes to him, a couple of minor errors in artwork, corrected below.

OU NOTES: Recorded by Wes M. from 3rd Row (artwork incorrectly states 6th row), slightly left of center aisle. Disc 2, Track 15 is incorrectly listed on artwork as "Sofa" (my mistake again).
"...Ship Arriving Too Late..." and "...Dangerous Kitchen" were performed as improvisations, with Frank scatting the lyrics from a 3-ring binder. He had not yet written the music that would complete the songs. Early in the recording, you will hear an issue with Security when there was a ticket mix-up. It's a wonder that no one saw the recorder during all that.
There is some distortion in the recording, either from the recorder's limiter circuitry or the mic's limits, but it's really not bad. If you only want one version of this show, I'd
say the DrZap version is the one to have, but this version has its merits as well. Perhaps someone might try to matrix this with the DrZap recording to create a definitive version.
I welcome any such attempt.
This was sent to me as FLAC files, and the files burned fine, but I checked before preparing this torrent and found SBE's, which were fixed using Trader's Little Helper. I then made new ffp files, and re-verified everything.

Total Time ::: 1:35:41

::: Very fine wide stereo audience tape.
::: Warts: MANY level adjustments by taper - most repaired & now a MUCH better listen than my original tape. Fluctuations in 1st song settle down - just wait! More info below.
::: (?) Tape labeled only "UMass" so almost certainly Amherst or Boston. After many hours with tape & audience, I reckon it's Boston.
::: The new Steve Miller Band here includes 3 ex-members of Frumious Bandersnatch..... Incredible, joyful, transcendent jamming in a number of places.
::: The taper must have had a great spot with one mike towards the stage, the other towards the P.A. stack - great separation.
::: The taper or his companion start laughing between the first 2 songs & we get, "I just burned myself on a joint."
::: Dude, forget about yer "Rock Love" album, this is the real shit! As Stevie says, "Lay back & let the good times roll."

Recording Information ::: unknown equipment -> master stereo audience tape -> unknown generations (not many!) -> unknown generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette, Dolby B on.

Playback 2012-01-22 ::: unknown generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette on Nakamichi BX-300 cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth & pitch adjusted, heads cleaned & demagnatized -> Tascam CD-RW900SL pro CD recorder -> CD-RW -> computer, EAC secure -> wavs -> Audacity (fades &/or glitches, dropouts, volume adjustments, no EQ) -> CD Wave (track splits) -> Trader's Little Helper -> yer ears. In one main place for a short bit the volume dropped out almost completely in 1 channel but it sounded better to raise the level with hiss appearing than go for to mono during the passage. Occasionally there is a bit of high end loss for a second, but minimal & usually only in 1 channel. And, weird volume adjustments... As we used to say, this one "was a pisser." First uploaded week of 2012-01-25.

Line-up ::: Steve Miller - acoustic & electric guitars, vocals, harmonica // Bobby Winkelman - rhythm acoustic & electric guitars, vocals // Ross Lamont Valory ("Dr. Ross") - bass, vocals (& acoustic guitar?) // Jack King ("Jumpin' Jack Flash") - drums, vocals.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.
CoolSonics 097 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders! My copy came from The Man In The Palace, so you know it's a royal gem. ::: Corrections welcome ::: This one's for Ena, whether she can still dig this stuff or not... Stevie, Stevie. F'in' great show, one of my absolute favorites by Miller. We get the soft side, the heavy side & a lot inbetween, with great harmonies & about half of the "Number 5" album, some incredibly well-played (for live music) tasty arrangements & a wonderful lack of surfeit of attitude - the man's just layin' it down. Gotta wonder who taped this in Massachusetts at the time & what other recordings were made with this equipment, as overall it sounds great, maybe from the front of a balcony, close up. It appears to be 4am before the last song in the set...gotta wonder who else was on this bill before Steve Miller. I remember those shows, like getting out of Hot Tuna at the Palladium at 6am with the sun coming up, one band, all night...
More recordings on the way, making up for years of slow netspeed. Kudos to Zongo for life support, Lochner for mikes & much more, & to Fast Freddie for runnin' Video Dick's Record Emporium with the bathroom office full of tape decks. Thanks to Hanwaker (few among us can keep his pace) for over 30 years of trading & friendship. Mountains of gratitude to Davmar, D.White, Sanchez, Elliot, The Florida Kid, Kloiber, Zingg, JTW, Bershaw, Boston Gold, Weeks, Dixon, Moore, Gough & SO many more for all that collecting & sharing... Royal thanks to The Man In The Palace, Doc Tinker, Brinkhoffs, Barely Eatin', Reel Master Gaule, Parrish & all the traders who housed me thru my music acquisition & travel years. Hats off to Brother Kent, Uncle Jake, Little Queenie (& her neighbor Frank) & his honor Ptomaine Thomas. Glasses raised to Byron for musical horizon expansion & much obliged to J & Thurston for keepin' my concert fires burnin' since my continental shift. Thanks to the Mods for keepin' DIME alive. Enjoy, share, give, spread peace. Yers truly, Knees

Tommy Bolin: Glen Holly Outtakes 1975 (Studio) FLAC

SF-5-7-760015PSZPQBC-1024x1024
Glen Holly Outtakes
Unknown date, probably around 1975
length: 34.03
quality: B+ / A-

OU: I know next to nothing about this. I got a bunch of discs with Tommy some years back, some of the stuff on there was crap, some stuff is really cool, there are LOTS of outtakes from Teaser and Private Eyes which I will get around to eventually but this one was simply marked "Glen Holly Outtakes".
I recognize some of the songs, there are some songs which are probably just jams but at least the last song has lyrics sung by Tommy in the background. This is probably not a soundboard recording, it sounds more like a rehearsal tape with the vocals buried deep (when sung).
Maybe someone will like it, and maybe someone can help me fill the gaps. Any info about this band/date/titles, whatever, would be greatly appreciated.

1. Getting tighter (instrumental, it sounds a lot like the Purplerecorded version)
2. -unknown-
3. -unknown-
4. -unknown-
5. Needles & pins
6. Teaser (with Homeward strut false start in the end)
7. Homeward strut
8. -short jams-
9. -unknown- (has lyrics though!)

ENJOY!!

This gig at the Olympia was the 2nd Parisian gig of the 2006 "On An Island" European Tour (David played the evening before at the Grand Rex Theatre, not far from the Olympia).
The concert at the Olympia had some particularities that made that show very unique.
Firstly, David invited Sam Brown to sing The Great Gig In The Sky, as she was in town that night to perform with Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, at the Trabendo. She performed during the 1st set, just after "The Blue", and probably left the Olympia just after the song, to fulfill her obligations with the Jools Holland band...
Just after this nice surprise, some French people in the audience began to wish a happy birthday to David, who turned 60 just 10 days earlier, on March 6th. Then most of the audience sang the famous "Happy Birthday" song to David.
A third particularity of the Olympia gig is due to a big larsen problem during "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", at the beginning of the first verse. David stopped, and after the problem was identified (refer to the title of the RoIO ;-)), David restarted the song from the beginning! Furthermore - probably to avoid to play twice the same solos during the same concert - he did totally improvised lines during the intro, and also during the first electric solo just after Syd's Theme! This performance of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" at the
Olympia is therefore a very unique version, with alternate solos, almost totally improvised and very exciting to hear!
The Olympia concert was also the first one where David played "Fat Old Sun" instead of "Dominoes" (and he was totally on fire during the final electric solo!).
The recording from Xave was excellent, and needed just slight adjustments on the levels (on the raw recording, the level of the audience parts was far too loud compared to the rest of the recording). After comparing with the other sources we were able to hear from that night, we believe this could be the best recording of the Olympia concert.
Enjoy! -MOB.

Very Good Soundboard Recording Remastered By Captain Acid

OU: Hi Bowie fanatics, here it is, another `76 upgrade. Well, this one was pretty good to start with, and now it`s even better.
I have edited back in, Jean Genie that was missing, and i have also edited in the fals start of Five Years that was also missing.Someone was already dealing with this soundboard, it was mastered pretty loud for my taste but i did not want my remaster to be more quiet than this so they are the same in loudness. But they are different in other things.
I have fixed pitch, phase and levels and then I did the EQ.
No compression, limiters or noise reduction! Erik Snow and Quicksand were very helpful. Erik made another tasty artwork.

Freddie King: Dallas 1975 (FM) FLAC

f0
The Incomparable Freddie King (The Texas Cannonball)
Venue: January Sound Studios Dallas, Texas
Date: March 31, 1975
Source: FM Broadcast KZEW 98FM / Soundboard!
Transfer: cassette tape I believe > CD-R from trade > EAC > FLAC Level 8
Sound Quality: A- / B Not bad for 1975. The sound gets better as the show goes on

..."I love the tip, I love the top, I love you better than a hog loves slop
'Cause you're a big legged woman, with a short short miniskirt
Promise me darlin', you'll never make me feel like dirt"...

OU: Up for your consideration is a smokin' hot Freddie King show intimately recorded at January Sound Studios in Big D with at best ten people or less in the audience (recording studios don't normally have huge listening rooms do they?). During my adolescence this top notch rock & roll station (KZEW 98FM - The Zoo) would routinely book various bands to record a set at January Sound. The station did this all time but I can only remember three as I write this: Foghat (recently seeded here), Peter Frampton (an incredible pre-FCA set that I am attempting to track down and post), and the legend Freddie King. I wonder the legal ramifications of doing same here in 2006? I shudder to think...
Most folks who know about Freddie King will tell you that he never played a bad show and this evening was no exception. I'd like to think that it was due to such local guitar aces being in attendance such as Bugs Henderson and Johnny Nitzinger but I know better. Legend has it that Freddie never gave an encore because his shows were so intense they weren't necessary. Now that takes some cajones and you better be able to back it up. Apparently this guy did.
I could write pages about each song but will abstain. I just want everyone who's not familiar with Freddie King to hear and feel the intensity level of this show. Several slight nuances can be heard if you listen in headphones as he does quite a bit of talking away from the mic between songs. What always gets me about this particular evening are his guttural-like moans right before he rips off an incredible lick. More so than anyone else, he and Stevie do that and I truly believe it comes from the heart. It's not a staged bit or something contrived just for the folks in the audience.
I must mention that the Willie Dixon tune 'Early One Morning' is probably the standout song on this collection as I don't believe that he performed it often. It's sung with his longtime bass player and brother, Benny Turner. Again, listen clearly before the song starts and you can hear Freddie not only call out the tune but the key that he wants to play it in (b flat). Then, a few seconds in, after it sounds as if he and Benny quarrel for a moment, Freddie shouts out in jest, "that's a $25 fine!". The best moment however is the guitar lick that comes after the soft vocal intro. Like a sledgehammer to the head, this will take the air right out of you.
As for the recording lineage, I was of the understanding that this came from the actual reel to reel tapes from January Sound Studios as a buddy of mine who used to work at the station 'supposedly' rescued these from the trash can (his exact words). I don't believe this is the case as there are some odd edits towards the end of Come On (Part III). It doesn't render the song unlistenable, I just believe it's consistent with a 90 minute cassette tape at the end of side A.
A huge shout out to a former KZEW employee and friend of mine, Michael Rhyner who turned me on to this show and Freddie King to begin with. Thankfully I received this cd just before my original tape wore out! I've listened to Michael tell me repeated stories of seeing Freddie live and being peppered with his sweat as it got on those in the front row. Intensity anyone?
Again, trust I didn't bore you with my thoughts of another stellar recording from January Sound Studios. Please have fun listening and as always don't convert to MP3 or sell. That's not cool.
Regards, DWP
P.S. Those of you who grew up in Texas like me, enjoy the Lone Star Beer commercial produced long before the era of political correctness!!!

I'll be gone next week.

1943__rationing_gives_you_by_razornylon-d3a3m2v

Hi Friends,
I will be taking a long overdue vacation NEXT week but there will still be boots every single day. To accomplish that I will cut back the number to 4-5 this week and next.
Just an FYI so you don't think that I am running low on enthusiasm.

A brilliant CD. The best sounding record of the '70 BBC session. Carefully remastered with NoNoise to eliminate any noise from the underlying vinyl source. Only a 10-second drop-out of one stereo channel on 'Careful..' reminds you that this is no official release. Even if you are not a friend of roio's you must have heard this version of 'Embryo' at least once ... or you are not a Floyd fan! -HERWIG
They don't get any better than this. This one and 'One Of These Days' (also TSP) is the ones to have from the BBC sesions in 70-71. Only thing is a couple of small errors on track 3, but that doesn't drag down the overall impression of this CD. Times are from CD timer. Highly recomended. -TOR
This is, no doubt, the best version of Embryo. It also includes a very good combination of Green is the Colour and Careful with... . Have you maybe heard a Radio voice which says "Careful with that axe Eugene, classic Pink Floyd recorded in the Summer of 1970. Just a year... . Well, that's not included in this recording. 105% recommendable.

OU: I first found and circulated this through trades six-plus years ago, and was going through a shoebox earlier today and found it. I haven't ever torrented it, so thought I would. It is definitely for completists, but stands as one of the very few documents of Dylan's evolving live sound in the Fall of 1965. I still think that the download is worth it just for Maggie's Farm.

Yes: Auckland 2012 (VG Aud) FLAC

yes-33
"We Finally Made It"
Vector Arena
Auckland, New Zealand
Sunday, April 1, 2012
Lower Bowl, Row S, Seat 215, to the right side and back. Only a half Arena show so this was still quite close.

Lineage: Zoom H1 (24/48) > Nero Wave-Editor (split tracks) > foobar2000 > flac L8
I have not done anything to the audio other than track splits.

This is the first ever NZ show for Yes (We Finally Made It) and the first with Jon Davison on vocals - and it was very good.
I first started listening to Yes over 20 years ago when I got Close to The Edge. My 10 year old son (who went to the concert also, and who you may hear talking) first started listening to them 3 weeks ago, he enjoyed it but it was a long day so he had a "wee snooze" during Heart of The Sunrise - he woke for the last few songs.

Set 1:
Yours Is No Disgrace
Tempus Fugit
Your Move/I See All Good People
Life on a film set
Steve solo - Solitaire/Clap
And You And I

Set 2:
Fly From Here

Duran Duran: Madrid 1993 (FM) FLAC

duranwedding8
Die Mauer, Madrid, Spain, 11th March, 1993
Sound: Very good FM broadcast.

01 Planet Earth
02 Ordinary World
03 Come Undone
04 Notorious
05 Ordinary World

OU Comments: I traded for this on cassette in the early 2000's. The guy I got this cassette from lived in Spain, and was at this concert. This is an FM broadcast, which includes an FM Spanish radio announcer talking before and after the first 4 tracks. 'Ordinary World' was actually played twice, so that is no mistake. A couple of the first 4 tracks have some kind of FM related distortion. There's no way to clean this up.

Lineage: Cassette obtained in trade years ago, transferred to .wav via CD-EX via line in from my Sony walkman. WAV converted to FLAC level 6
