Warning/Disclaimer: This recording should not be confused with the series labeled "The Dan Lampinski Tapes Volume XX". This recording represents part of Dan's earliest efforts to capture the live concert experience for posterity, hence the series name "Dan Lampinski - The Early Years Volume XX". Given the very consistent high quality of Dan's later work, it would have been easy to blow off these recordings and consign them to the dustbin of history, but there are quite a few captures in the series that are well worth circulating, if not for their rarity, but for the obsessive collector types (we know who we are) that want every single second of any recordings of their favourite musicians. So please, just accept these recordings for what they are, another part of the tapestry we weave when we collect and share such things.
Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.
Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.
Always remember - the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you.

New York Dolls: Kansas City 1974 (G+ Aud) FLAC

New_York_Dolls
1974 Opening For Todd Rundgren
Memorial Hall - Kansas City, Kansas
audience recording from The Moose Track Collection

Sony Cassette Deck>Alesis 9500 Masterlink (no EQ)>AIFF
File conversion done with xACT setting of 6

The story of The Moose Track collection: In the late 80s a buddy of mine in Pennsylvania told me during my visit to the East coast about a tiny independent record store in Port Jervis, NY called Moose track Records. He thought I be interested in a box of live tapes he saw for sale in there. I went over almost immediately and sure enough there it was, a box of 72 cassettes. Some without labels. Some were generic white cassettes with a white cardboard insert. Most were TDK normal bias. Some were from the sixties, most from the seventies. Some were from BBC, most were audience recordings from the NY/east coast area. I bought them all at 50 cents a tape. Bands I knew: Devo, NY Dolls, Capt. Beefheart, Runaways, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, Led Zeppelin, Graham Parker, Rockpile, Damned. Bands I didn't know: Ducks Deluxe, Eddie and The Hotrods, Frankie Miller. Some cool oddballs: Johnny Rotten DJ-ing at the BBC, Monty Python in a radio appearance, a 10 minute radio clip devoted to the death of Paul McCarthy.
Yes, I've digitized them all with no EQ. All are a bit hissy, some have drop outs, the listening qualities vary wildly.

OU: This is from the same cassette that the Del Shannon post I uploaded a earlier in the day is from. Part on the Rundgren show finishes off this cassette. There is a second cassette that concludes the Todd Rundgren show. ThatÕll go up this week as well.
This is an audience recording and you can hear how boomy the acoustics are. Rundgren comes off much better with a quiet devoted audience and a dynamic range of quiet to loud. The Dolls are very very loud and the sound bounces all over the place.

Todd Rundgren produced the New York Dolls' first album which was released in 1973.
The New York Dolls' second album, which was produced by Shadown Morton, was released in May of 1974

Total Length - 100 minutes 25 seconds

OU: This is a complete show I got from a an old time NYC taper. He recorded it himself and may have spread it around a bit back in the day, but I've not really come across it elsewhere in my travels. He has since dropped off the radar and I've not been able to raise him for years. You out there, Vinny?
I had an incomplete version of this same show taped by a guy in New Jersey once but, like I said, this source is complete. The sound quality is average - somewhat distorted at the loud parts. Also, one channel's a bit louder than the other and there's a couple cuts here and there but nothing significant.
But the playing is hot and in your face. The band was ON this particular night! The audience? Well, it's a New York crowd, if you now what I mean. They're VERY enthusiastic, though their histrionics are mostly confined to the spaces between songs, so it's all good.
Adds to the overall excitement of the gig. What I'm trying to say is that this is one sweaty night in New York City and I love it!
But that's just me. If you're looking for top notch sound quality, maybe this isn't for you- you can decided for yourself.

LINEAGE - master tape digitized by Vinny and sent to me --> messed up track markers fixed by me with Audacity --> ripped to my hard drive with Exact Audio Copy -->

Neil Diamond: London BBC Radio 2 FM (2010) FLAC

Neil Diamond on BBC Electric Proms live from The Roundhouse London BBC Radio 2 FM 2010.10.30 Hi-MD SP master

art and review available here (though mine is NOT mp3 sourced):
http://bigozine2.com/roio/?p=631

Chris Evans and Jo Whiley are back at the London Roundhouse, as Neil Diamond performs for the last night of the Electric Proms.
After a career spanning five decades, over 128 million worldwide record sales, three dozen Top Forty hits, a Grammy and a Golden Globe, Neil Diamond is just getting started. Tonight, he revisits his own back catalogue, which includes classic songs like I'm A Believer and Sweet Caroline. He also showcases his skills as a performer with interpretations of his favourite songs from other rock composers, including The Beatles, Leonard Cohen, The Eagles and Randy Newman.
A Night With Neil Diamond will broadcast on BBC Two on Saturday 13 November, featuring highlights of the Radio 2 Electric Proms, together with a documentary about Neil's prolific and rich music career. Red Button and online will provide exclusive clips and behind the scenes footage from Saturday 6 November.

It’s likely fans have worn out many a copy of Neil Diamond’s Hot August Night so much so that when it comes to the end of Cherry Cherry at the Roundhouse, one begins to anticipate the opening bars of Sweet Caroline (which was how it was on Hot August Night)… so ingrained is the show in one’s memory.
Hot August Night, released in 1972, was not only a hit album but probably presented Neil Diamond at the height of his prowess as a singer and performer - where he could effortlessly plumb the lows on any song. It is also probably the album to compare his live performances and, 38 years later, Diamond hasn’t aged too badly. He can still do Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon without slurring his lines - “I’ve been misunderstood for all of my life/But what they’re sayin’, girl, just cuts like a knife/’The boy’s no good’ “ - easy to sing when you’re young but it sure can trip you up. And the strain shows on And I Am… I Said.
And Diamond is such a pro that you even welcome his hocking his new album, Dreams. (It’s the Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show after all.) For the “new” songs on Dreams, such as Midnight Train To Georgia, Ain’t No Sunshine and I’m A Believer, while Midnight Train is basically Gladys Knight’s and one wouldn’t think of it as a Diamond cover, Diamond has slowed down the tempo and given it his own touch; and similarly with the “reinvented” I’m A Believer (a Diamond song made famous by The Monkees).
But then again, Diamond has always left his own stamp on other people’s songs - on the Stones album, he had The Last Thing On My Mind, Husbands And Wives, If You Go Away, Suzanne and I Think It’s Gonna Rain Today (the album was bookended by I Am… I Said). It’s hard to listen to these songs and not think of Diamond’s mournful vocals. Already back in 1971, Diamond had a blueprint for his covers album(s)!
As on 2008’s Hot August Night/NYC, Diamond appears very gracious and grateful to be entertaining the fans and while this may not be his last hurrah, it sure is nice of him to have Lulu as a guest (whoever still remembers The Boat That I Row?).
Listening to this show is fun but it’d be great to watch the TV broadcast, especially when it’s in high-def. Even then, it’d still be too short!
As far as we can ascertain, this recording has never been officially released.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: Unknown Venue 2001 (FM) FLAC

Nick_Cave___The_Bad_Seeds
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds 2001-04-12, Scottish TV Boxset, radio broadcasted by dutch VPRO radio.

OU: I taped this several years ago from dutch radio on a cassette tape and transfered this in 2004 to cd (wav) but forgot to overwrite the text info, so I have a cd with the only text: Nick Cave, VPRO. No date, no further info.
So I first tried to find out in the VPRO archives what this could be and it has to be the 2001 recorded show from the Scottish TV. (I overviewd when the VPRO did "something" with Nick and overlooked the setlist, finally looked to some videos of this concert on You Tube, and the sound performance seems to be simulair)
I transferred mine cd (there is also a bootleg version of this concert available, I saw somewhere on the net, but that is not this one) to flac level 8.
The Scottish TV appearence was a live show called Boxset with a small audience. The dutch radio broadcast isn't the whole show and some songs aren't in the original right order. Have no idea why they changed that. And between some of the songs is a little gap, but overall it sounds excellent.

01 as I sat sadly by her side
02 do you love me?
03 god is in the house
04 red right hand
05 hallelujah
06 fifteen feet of pure white snow
07 the weeping song

OU: In short, Sarah McLachlan wanted to take a different approach from using conventional openers & incorporated them into her main set. The show was roughly 2 and a half hours (not counting the 25 minute intermission between acts) and was quite enjoyable. Butterfly Boucher & Melissa McClelland's songs were very strong and Sarah looked and sounded great playing w/ them. Sarah's band was still the mainstay, using the 2 "friends" for occasional background vocals and instrumentation (ie: Butterfly played bass for the entire set).
Regarding the recording, I did adjust volume levels throughout due to loud clapping and quieter songs. It should not be too noticeable, but you will want to raise the volume during the question and answer portions of the show. I did bring those up by 3+db, but did not want to make too much of a difference from the speaking between songs during the rest of the show.
This was my first time seeing Sarah & she was nothing short of incredible live.

Peter Tosh & Bob Marley's performances are not included

The infamous One Love Peace Concert was held on April 22, 1978 at The National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. This concert was held during a political civil war in Jamaica between opposing parties Jamaican Labour Party and the People's National Party. The concert came to its peak during Bob Marley & The Wailers' performance of "Jammin'", when Marley joined the hands of political rivals Michael Manley (PNP) and Edward Seaga (JLP).

* The Nighthawks were playing a gig across the street at a place called Desperados at the same time the Destroyers were playing here at the Cellar Door. The Destroyers and the Nighthawks were playing "Madison Blues" at the exact same time, so George and Jimmy Thackery (lead guitar and vocals for the Nighthawks) walked out of their own gigs, passed each other in the street and joined with the other band. Both George and Jimmy sang a few verses and soloed a bit with the opposite band and returned to their own gigs to finish out the song!!!
George says it's a Thurs night but 1978-07-28 was a Friday.

George THOROGOOD and the DESTROYERS, Paris Palace, 1981 april 27th, TV and FM masters FLAC
OU: I used on line TV and FM recordings (my masters) for this torrent; the show is not complete but sounds interesting. I made a previous upload from the Palace 1979 show months ago and some dimers commented they liked George T without sax; i'm sorry, a sax was on stage for this set.
I was at le Palace, so i did a ticket scan. As i took recordings from several broadcasts, the order of play is not necessarily accurate.

01 One bourbon, one scotch, one beer

OU notes:
---------
* My Edirol mic-in is broken, so I couldn't use my standard CSB microphones. Had to use the internal mics for the Edirol recorder. Placed it in my right breast pocket. Turned out better than I expected, all things considered.
* Drop-outs during In The Flesh and Another Brick In The Wall (Part I) while I try and fix my mics, which are what I thought was malfunctioning at the time.
* You can hear the dude behind me try and pick a fight with me because I won't sit down during Hey You. Sorry, not much I could do about that.

This will probably be my last RW 2010/11 tour post unless a truly exceptional audience recording or soundboard (not likely) shows up.

Rog: You get that pig out of here! Have you all seen enough of the pig? Home piggy, go on. Gonna do a song in a minute for all the disco freaks in the audience; also for all the paranoids and psychopaths; also for Alan Jones of the Melody Maker - you stupid sh!t - winner of the small brain contest 1980*. It's called 'Run Like #uck!'

*(Jones was described on stage by Roger Waters as a "stupid shit" after writing a scathing review of Pink Floyd's The Wall show at Earls Court Exhibition Centre.)

OU: OK, where do I start with this one, it came to me sounding really muffled and dull, cracks, pops and sounding like it was recorded from the room next door. To cut a long story short, I done this one so many times so many ways and really did not end up with anything much better than what I was sent.
What you have is a last ditch attempt to get something out of this show.
Filters added across sound spectrum at 3dB
Loudness added at 13.6db
Sound Equalised
90% of the pops and clicks removed, most that are left are during the last few tracks on CD2, I spent ages trying to removes these, but they are not digital clicks which are normally easy to remove. These pops are really hard to clear on a recording this bad without leaving a scar of their own, so I left them as they are.
I hope you Enjoy the show.

Prefab Sprout: Finsbury Park 2000 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

PrefabSprout
Fleadh, Finsbury Park 10th June 2000
Great crowd recording from Minidisc Master (ATRAC, SP) (A)

Paddy McAloon - vocals, guitar
Martin McAloon - bass
Neil Conti - drums
Jess Bailey - Keyboards

01. Faron Young
02. Bonny
03. Appetite
04. Moving the River
05. Cruel
06. Goodbye Lucille #1
07. Cowboy Dreams
08. Cars and Girls
09. When love breaks down
10. A Life of Surprises
11. Looking for Atlantis .

Lineage Master Minidisc->SPDIF->Audacity->VST Equalisation->Audacity track and flac

Very light equalisation to even out mid range and boost bass slightly.

Paddy's last hurrah. Following the 2000 tour of the UK, the stripped down version of Prefab Sprout played one last gig at the 2000 Fleadh in Finsbury Park. This found Paddy in excellent humour and dark glasses, and it's a great swansong.

This recording comes from an original SP minidisc master recording. There's some very minor crowd chatter, but it's otherwise a great recording.

This album was a colaboration with jazz legend Charles Mingus who passed away before the album could be finished. This is a fine show with some jazz greats backing Joni on this tour.
