OU: Another nice bootleg from the "Suffer" tour, a few months before "No Control"
came out. I'm sorry if the infos about the concerts are sometimes inaccurate but bootlegs (especially the old ones), contain misleading info.. This one, for example, says this concert was in Holland, while most sources say this was a live in Wien,
Austria.. Anyway.. enjoy

04. Communication Breakdown

Review: Yet another great and extended show from Winter 1971 tour. After a brief pause, Page begins Tangerine, only to stop dead after 40 seconds. In Page's defense, it is immediately followed by a loud buzz, perhaps the sound of a guitar cord being re-plugged into an amplifier or guitar after being found to not be fully inserted. He restarts and Tangerine is performed without incident. Again, Dazed And Confused contains an amazing improvisation on the Shaft theme and Whole Lotta Love medley is well worth listening too. This show closes with Communication Breakdown, containing a soulful, Band Of Gypsies-style solo and a funky break before accelerating to a racing finish.

Comments: A rather rough recording. The vocals are all but inaudible on the first few tracks although the instruments come thru well. The last two tracks have better vocals with StCFtHotS being the best on the disc. The last two tracks also have a lot of vinyl pops and clicks, but this is understandable considering the age of the recording. The audience is, as usual, very well behaved and there are no extraneous annoy- ing conversations during the songs. The times shown above are from my disc player and match the back cover exactly, except for STLS which is listed at 5'37". Overall, while not the best recording, it is still an important part of the history of PF and will probably be of interest to the more serious completists seeing as how so few recordings from the Syd days exist at all. -GOLGO
After all that has been said about the International Pop Festival in Rome, the date and location for the Floyd's performance seem clear: 6 May 1968, Palazzo Dello Sport.
Last month I got Andre's GREAT tapetree "Music When You Are Sleeping", with AD and STCFTHOTS.
I've got a tape copy of "Fountains Of Roma" RoIO CD (Black Panther), and on the CD cover, they mention "PIPER CLUB 06/05/68". So, yesterday, I decided to listen to my "Fountains Of Roma" tape, to compare with Andre's tape "Music When You Are Sleeping".
Here's what I found about the 5 "Fountains Of Roma" tracks:
- "Astronomy Domine" and STCFTHOTS are definitely different from the versions on the tapetree. So, these 2 tracks DON'T come from May 6, 1968.
- "Scream Thy Last Scream", "Astronomy Domine" and LTBML are about the same sound quality (mono, G). So maybe these 3 tracks come from a single concert. It seems that it was a rather small venue (listening to the applauses).
- IO and STCFTHOTS are better quality (mono, Ex) and seem to have been recorded in a larger concert hall. Again, maybe these 2 tracks come from a single concert.
- STCFTHOTS is similar to the "mysterious" version on "Around The Mystic" RoIO CD. The source is the same, but the version on "Around The Mystic" seems to have some stereo separation. -MARC-OLIVIER

Here are the sources of the tracks:
1.) Scream thy Last Scream
2.) Astronomy Domine These 2 tracks are from 13sep67 Star Club, Copenhagen, Denmark. Also on "StarClub Phyco" CD
3.) Interstellar Overdrive As recently discussed, this is probably from a BBC TV broadcast of 06may68 First International European Pop Festival, Palazzo Dello Sport, Rome, Italy.
4.) Let There Be More Light This is from 23may68 (early show) Paradiso, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (Also on "The Live Pink Floyd" CD)
5.) Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun I don't know what gig this is from. It is structurally most like the 1972 performances but I can't pin it down.

This is a classic roio bastardization of several performances. Yet another reason not to spend good money on CD roios. -JOHN

Pink Floyd: UFO Club 1967 (Broadcast Source) FLAC

We'll start Floyd Friday a tad early ;)
19670120UFO_f
UFO Club, 31 Tottenham Court Road
London, England
1967-01-20 (also listed as 27th)
AUD (1st Gen)
Technical: Source: U-matic tape > cass[1] > MD > CDR(2) > SHN > wav > SF & CDWave > FLAC

Setlist:
01. MATILDA MOTHER (2:52m) w/ voiceover
02. INTERESTELLAR OVERDRIVE (4:16m) w/ voiceover
03. More IO (0:45m)
time: 7:52m

OU Notes: Performance shown during the Granada TV Documental 'It's So Far Out It's Straight Down' broadcasted on March 8th 1967
I tracked this from the whole documental. I include here the last tune of the documental, which to me sounds as Interestellar Overdrive. Also, Matilda includes an additional verse than the usual versions from the compilations, it's just a verse and then 30 seconds of voice and then the song starts again, but i decided to include it since it's part of the song. EX- sound (for a '67 recording). I always this listed as January 20th or 27th, i suppose January 20 this the one right. I think the date of the broadcast of the documental is about right too. -gbc

randy's Notes: This (bootleg) is the 2nd set of a Halloween show. Bill Graham had just passed away in a helicopter accident. This is the final night of the 4 "Wake" shows. There is a tribute to him read by Ken Kesey after the first verse of Dark Star. Gary Duncan plays guitar on Spoonful, Dark Star, Space, Dark Star Reprise, The Last Time, and Werewolves Of London.
Great Dane decided to take Dark Star>Drums>Space>Last Time out and put them on Disc 2 in order not to disturbe the flow of those 4 tracks since there is no break in the music. Personally, if I was downloading this show, I would put it back in it's proper order setlist wise, make a cut during Drums, and split the discs there. Of course, thats just my opinion and we all know what they say about them.
Randy

Here is the Show's correct order.

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band: Glastonbury Festival 2009 (2 Source) FLAC

contains both an incomplete FM broadcast and a complete VG+ Essexboy audience recording
BSglastonFr
front cover: http://www.bigozine2.com/MP309/BSglaston/BSglastonFr.jpg

Springsteen is still after The Dream - songs like Badlands, Prove It All Night, Outlaw Pete and Out In The Street are themes for the man in Main Street - where life is tough and doesn’t seem to get any better. But for Springsteen’s rock-as-salvation, there is always Hope (Working On A Dream, Promised Land). But the road is always perilous - The River, Born To Run and Thunder Road - and the result, which might be unreachable but certainly ideal, ends in Glory Days and an American Land.
But just to check himself, as Springsteen sings, “Is a dream a lie if it don’t come true or is it something worse?” - is that why he is whistling and Dancing In The Dark?
All these is nothing new to those who have followed Springsteen through the years, he has been singing about The Dream from way back when. But for Obama, cutting through the bull seems awfully hard - God knows how his hands are tied before any decision is reached but like anyone who voted for Obama last November, they are still Waiting On A Sunny Day.

To mark his first ever performance at Glastonbury Festival, US rock legend Bruce Springsteen gives a rare interview. By Steve Lamacq Published: 7:00AM BST 27 Jun 2009
In a recording career spanning 36 years and worldwide album sales of more than 120 million, New Jersey rock singer Bruce Springsteen has established himself as one of the most enduring and distinctive voices in music. Recently reunited with his celebrated backing group, the E Street Band, he plays tonight for the first time ever at the Glastonbury Festival, and tomorrow at Hyde Park in London. To mark his Glastonbury debut, he gave this rare interview.
Steve Lamacq: After 40 odd years of playing live, your first Glastonbury Festival.
SL: What do you know about Glastonbury?
BS: That it's very special – very close to the English heart.
SL: You've said that this is the second golden age of the E Street Band...
BS: The band plays better today than it's ever played before. You get to a certain point and you realise it's finite. Nobody is going to be doing this forever. So the enjoyment you get is of just being there with your friends, in front of that audience. We're already seeing an audience that's going to outlive us.
SL: Have you noticed how the influence of your music is probably more evident now than it has been for years?
BS: Shortly after we got back together we started to see a whole new influx of fans, and see our influence on other groups. And that's nice. You want to try to have done your job well enough that you pass some of that inspiration down.
SL: The set that you're doing at the moment has one or two of your slightly older, darker songs in it.
BS: We try to reflect a little bit of what's going on out there, particularly at home. We're very conscious of the very, very hard time people are having. It comes in cycles – although I'm nearly 60 and I haven't seen it so bad.
SL: So is there room for another record reflecting what's going on now?
BS: I don't really set out with a concept like that in mind. You listen to the music that's sort of bubbling up inside of you. I've tried to take a certain topic and write a certain song, and it's always very stilted.
SL: For the people who've never seen you before, can you sum up the E Street Band experience?
BS: We just come out, pull out all the stops and go for the throat. We always try to lift you emotionally and spiritually. I've had an experience through music that has touched almost every part of me. It educated me in ways that I didn't get educated in school. So we try to lay on a bit of that, through being funny, being serious, playing hard.
SL: As you mentioned, it is the big 6-0 this year…
BS: [Laughs] Yeah, it doesn't seem that big a deal any more. The band is so vital right now that it's a link with when I was 35 or 25. It's all in the doing. It's in the going out every night and honouring the fans that have come out to see us be great. Which is what we try to be on a nightly basis.
SL: Well, tonight we shall see you do that in a big field in Somerset.
BS: I heard the weather is always bad. But it's all right – we're not afraid of a little rain.

THIS version is a FM capture from the complete italian radio broadcast with just 70mis highlights of the show. The BBC could have the full set stored somewhere...
Notice:
as in italian radio customes, the DJ speaks a lot in-between songs. And I mean a lot.. Her purpose is to introduce every song with bits of band's bio and translations. It may gets VERY annoying, and trust me it does, thus we might consider this recording only for completists. But the songs, the actual music, are not spoken over in the middle of them. That used to happen too. Or you could think that it's so damn exotic having someone speaking in an unknown language in your boot!

Notes from the original uploader:
I traded this one and received it a while ago. It's not my remaster and not my tape so I don't know who remastered it or who has the original master tapes. Now we know it runs fast it's not what I would call a remaster anyway, but the info and title is copied from the database. Certainly we now know it needs speed correction, and maybe other adjustments too, so I'm pleased it's uploaded insomuch as someone can get hold of it and make a better version....
Cheers, Jackson

eeklair notes: Speed Corrected, EQed, Dynamics repaired somewhat, Re-Indexed several broken tracks, clicky spots removed, gaps removed, and that's about it, Took me for godknowshowlong to finish.. i'm a picky bastidge ;-) If the master tape of this show were put in experienced hands, a non-distorted tape transfer MAY happen in the future, until then...enjoy.. Enjoy!

There were no reviews of this particular version of this show on Underground Uprising, but this indeed a must have for every Zeppelin collector. This particular version of this show is a combination of a few audience tapes to make a more complete recording ( just like Eddie Edwards release " A Bit Frightening") Both shows are excellent, but I enjoy this performance more than the Evening show, that's just my personal opionion though.
Hope everyone enjoys this
Cheers

Total Time - 40 minutes 44 seconds.

OU Notes: I will rate this show as Ex and the recording as VG+. A little help with date and venue confirmation would be greatly appreciated if possible. I picked this tape up in a record store in Irvington, NJ called "Vintage Vinyl Records" about 30 years ago. I recently found this in my storage shed in a box filled with junk. This was a raw transfer with no NR or SPC. I leave that to the people who know what they are doing as pitch and speed goes. I cannot vouch for the venue and date but that is what is listed and I myself have not seen this offered before anywhere else. The tape says September 1975 Maple Leaf Gardens. My research shows they played Toronto on 1/9/75 and on 1/9/76. In September 1975 they played the Omni. It is not inconceivable that they played September '75 in Toronto as they were on the east coast that month.
Enclosed in the Torrent is the SBEsAudioFilesCheck, shntool_len file, shntool_info file, FFP File, EncodedAudioFilesTest.

I remember standing right in front of Jerry. Ah, I love the Creek, It was so small and easy to get up close! A lot of people were getting critical and negative about the playing around that time but I felt Jerry was playing as hot as ever,I was wowed yet once again, as if I was at my first show, though it was my 100th! Amazing Let it Grow, and Fire on the mountain!

Grateful Dead: San Francisco NYE 1971 (FM) FLAC

GD_Winterland_NYE__71
Superduper 71' Soundboard. "Classic 1971 Sound"
Home for New Years Eve, the Grateful Dead are fresh and full of energy and perform a "Killer" show before the hometown crowd.
Bill Graham reminds us during this show, that the GRATEFUL DEAD would contact FM Radio stations in the cities where they performed and make arrangements for their concerts to be broadcast on the radio "live & in stereo" for all their fans to enjoy.
If you couldn't afford a ticket or get to the show, all you had to do is just turn on your radio and listen to the show for free.
This is a PIGPEN & KEITH show!
Pigpen does a wonderful job on "The Same Thing". Nice to hear the GRATEFUL DEAD play the "blues".
For a bunch of banjo pickers they somehow got a hold of some real blues licks and chops, must be talent. Garcia makes his guitar "talk" with his slide.
Five stars for the mix, recording, performance, transfer, & "dance-ability".
This is a "Must Have" show for all collectors of 1971 GRATEFUL DEAD.
Solid, "In the Pocket" performances of all our favorite 71' songs with Pigpen and Keith.

Band/Artist: Grateful Dead
Date: December 31, 1971

Location: San Francisco, CA

Dave,
I got this disc as part of a package deal. It came with a soft cover book about the Grateful Dead. Ther was no cover art, no jewel case, and I don't think it even came with a paper sleeve. As I recall, it was just shrink wrapped with the book. The book itself was half in English and half in Italian, and the English portion was clearly translated by someone Italian, because their English left a lot to be desired. A very hard read to say the least.

Cedar Cambridge restoration, editing, CD-mastering and cover design by tom April-August 2009.

A personal note (OU): I always liked this show, since I did an early attempt of a remaster back in 1998, which has never been released, thankfully. I mean it's still listenable, denoising was done with the famous NoNoise system, but the source was not the best in the first place. When Wolfgangsvault released their version few years ago I was excited and the idea of a new remaster came to my mind, adding the newly surfaced tracks. At last minute (thanks to Steve Sussman, who gave me the hint) I decided to include some bits from the original FM-broadcast recording as well, namely the introduction by an unknown presenter on stage and Bill Minkin in the King Biscuit studio and the intros to "Motherlode", "Cinema Show" and "Los Endos" which all suffered from annoying fade-ins on the pre-FM recording. Compared to the radio show, the order of the songs is slightly altered here - it now merely follows the original sequence of the concert setlist, ignoring the fact that too many tracks are sadly missing.
From the liner notes, specially written by David Dunnington:
"The challenge in producing this restoration has been to draw the threads together to create the coherent product so richly deserved by these glorious performances. To this end sections culled from the low resolution Internet stream have been treated by a process which digitally reconstructs lost frequencies. Returned to it's rightful home, the drum duet now bridges between "Dance On A Volcano" and "Los Endos"; the butchered edit to this latter track has been repaired with the matching section from Knebworth 1978 (BBC Rock Hour reels). With the bulk of material sourced from a transfer of pre-broadcast King Biscuit reels (provided by the Genesis Radio Show Project), all has been blended seamlessly with CEDAR treatment and carefully matched frequency profiles.
Now polished and moulded into a unified whole, these once-buried golden nuggets from Houston shine all the more brightly."

A Brief Review:
This is an excellent recording, and performance from the group, and this particular version is head and shoulders above Empress Valley's release of this show "The Balloon Boys Flying Rock Carnival".
This release, (like EVSD's Balloon Boy's), mostly utilizes the 3rd tape source as the main tape, and uses portions from the 1st tape source to patch holes found in the introduction, and "Moby Dick", but unlike EVSD's release, Scorpio has successfully brought down the bass and tom distortion that plagued the main tape nicely, and has found a nice balance in the sound and instruments.
Scorpio is the only label that has uncovered, and uses a new portion of audio from the 2nd tape source, "whole Lotta Love", which is sadly incomplete, but it's nice to hear some new material from that tape source.
It's unknown whether or not there's more tape from that tape source besides the new "Whole Lotta Love" fragment, but I'm definately hoping there is.
Hope everyone will enjoy!
