David Bowie and Stevie Vaughan: 1st Dallas Soundcheck 1983 (Soundboard) FLAC

113-0
not the cover
Las Colinas Soundstage
Dallas, Texas
April 26, 1983

Source: Unknown Generation XLIIS90 --> RealTek HD Manager --> TEAC Cassette Deck --> Audacity --> Wav --> FLAC Front End 8

Description: This rehearsal is the day before the one that commonly circulates, so this dates April 26, 1983. It differs from the other session (with the 'Hey Ricky' version being the definitive one) because the banter is different before Look Back In Anger. Prior to the 27th surfacing, this was the definitive 1983 rehearsal tape, and yes, it does include Stevie Ray Vaughan. Although the quality is slightly less than the 27th, this is still a soundboard, with very respectable sound. As a historical monument, it is no less significant. Enjoy!!

Setlist:
1. The Jean Genie (Intro)
2. Star
3. "Heroes"
4. What In The World
5. Look Back In Anger
6. Joe The Lion
7. Wild Is The Wind
8. Golden Years
9. Fashion
10. Let's Dance
11. Red Sails
12. Breaking Glass
13. Life On Mars?
14. Sorrow
15. Cat People
16. China Girl
17. Scary Monsters (w/false start)
18. Rebel Rebel
19. I Can't Explain
20. White Light, White Heat
21. Station To Station
22. Cracked Actor
23. Ashes To Ashes

From the Blackout archives. Enjoy!!

Aerosmith: Costa Mesa 1988 (Soundboard)

Axl Rose & Slash joined Aerosmith on stage to perform Mama Kin

The End Of The Summer Nights 1988

This is Aerosmith on the final night of their US 1988 tour. The gig took place at the Pacific Amphitheater, Costa Mesa, CA, USA back on the 15th September 1988.
The album 'Permanent Vacation' was released in September 1987, becoming a major hit and the band's bestselling album in over a decade (selling 5 million copies in the U.S.), with all three of its singles 'Dude (Looks Like a Lady)', 'Rag Doll', and 'Angel' reaching the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100.
The group went on a subsequent tour with label mates Guns N' Roses who have cited Aerosmith as a major influence. The tour was reportedly 'intense at times' because of Aerosmith's new struggle to stay clean, amidst Guns and Roses well publicized rampant drug use. Axl Rose & Slash joined Aerosmith on stage to perform Mama Kin.

Track List:
Disc 1
1 Rats In The Cellar
2 Same Old Song And Dance
3 Heart's Done Time

OU Notes: Transfer to 16/48 wav files made for me by R.B. from his Dat(3) tapes he received in Sept. 1998 from Darren M. Wav files were speed corrected and panning correction was applied to recenter the stereo signal since it pulled hard left. No eq was done to the recording. Downsampling was done with sox using the rate -v -s switches. This is a decent recording(nice and clear but has a sound to it like it was recorded in a wind tunnel). In general early 72 Zeppelin live shows were all excellent performances and this one is no different. This also is probably one of the best sounding sources you will find for the raw version of this recording among collectors.

On May 24th 1997, Kraftwerk, legendary German masters of electronica and some of the most influential progenitors of electronic music ever, played a long-awaited live gig at Britain's Tribal Gathering dance music festival, the largest legal dance gathering in the country, composed of a number of huge tents holding up to 10,000 people each in a field at Luton Hoo.
The BBC was supposed to be broadcasting the show live, but unfortunately instead, edited it down and only broadcast about one hour of the concert.

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.
He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.
Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.
Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.
Always remember - the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you. - Kev & Carl June 2009

Bruce Springsteen: Christmas Compilation (Mostly Soundboard) FLAC

bruce-santa
OU: This complilation was assembled from the EV2 releases of the individual shows. All tracks except the first 2 are from the remasters of the circulating soundboard recordings.
My goal was to create a one-disc sampler of the best tracks from the Asbury Park Convention Hall holiday shows--structured loosely along the lines of a typical show. I tried to include a good mix of Christmas favorites and essential Springsteen tracks.
Needless to say, whittling down such an amazing run of shows to one disc was a difficult endeavor. I chose 12/17/00 for the bulk of the tracks since the 2000 holiday shows featured the most E Street Band involvement. The spoken introductions are severely edited. But the music has been untouched. All tracks excluding the final bonus track are cross-faded so that the disc runs like a continuous show.
Of course, the collection reflects my own personal tastes and prejudices. Numerous available holiday tunes from these shows have been omitted due to time constraints. Those looking for a compilation of all the holiday songs performed at these shows can find it elsewhere.
Thanks to everyone who taped and shared the original recordings and to EV2 for his fantastic work.
I wish everyone a blessed holiday season and a fantastic 2010!

Bob Dylan: NY 1963 (Unreleased Soundboard Songs) FLAC

BDSM-Front
EAC
SPLIT FLAC, NO CUE & LOG
ART (JPG)
Hollow Horn Records, Unofficial Release | Superb Sound
“Remastered from what appear to be the master tapes, this recent edition of Bob Dylan's 1963 Carnegie Hall performance has to be heard to be believed. While the bulk of this show has appeared gradually over the last few years, a little bit here and a little bit there, this release features not only the five songs that have not circulated previously but the whole concert in the correct playing order with all of the many introductions and stories complete and in the best ever sound quality. Not to be missed.”
Review: This incredible labor of love release is an absolute must have to any size collection. Even though it is primarily a pirate release, and violates our policies on recommending pirates, for this long overdue concert we will overwhelmingly make an exception. Mainly because of the historical importance of the show, but largely because the tracks that have not seen official release have remained completely uncirculated even among the upper echelon of tape traders. To start with, the tri-fold cardboard sleeve that houses the two nearly identically silk screen printed discs includes some of the most striking color tinted images of a young Dylan that you will ever see. The front cover photo is simply breath-taking. The images, colors, and fonts help to create an over-all visual effect that is stunningly beautiful. The title uses European spelling, as that is the origin of the release. As for the music, it is, for all intents and purposes, as pristine, crisp, and clear as an official release. The tracks are not taken from the official releases, but from mix down tapes of the master. Because of this, they are a slightly higher generation than the master, so if you actually compare this release head to head with the official releases, you'll find the official release slightly brighter and crisper on the uppermost high end... but short of this side by side comparison, you'll never notice. There is little difference here (as to the released songs) from the officially releases. The biggest difference is that there is a short spoken introduction to North Country Blues on this release that is not heard on the promo release. Every song is a highlight and high point of the show, but to point out a few notables: This is the first live performance of The Times They Are A-Changin’. Bob had recorded what would be the title track to his upcoming LP release only three days before at CBS studios New York. Boots Of Spanish Leather is another song that would appear on the new album, but Bob had already performed this song several times by now, and it is now smoothed and honed to perfection. Another remarkable song is Lay Down Your Weary Tune. Biograph contains the only studio recording of this song, and this release presents the only live version. And of course, the standout highlights are the seven tracks that make their first appearance in four and a half decades. Before Blowin' In The Wind, Dylan tells a funny story that a friend related to him about a conversation he had had with a post grad that was studying for his masters degree. He had taken the word Blowin as meaning "to blow into". He couldn't understand how you could blow into the wind and get an answer.
All things considered, this set stands as one of the all time great musical releases. Yes, that includes legitimate Label releases as well. Dylan and CBS have truly missed the mark here by not giving a thumbs up to this shows full release. And, as only seven songs from the show have not seen official release in one form or another, it makes no logical or economical sense to deny the complete concert. Perhaps it works out better this way. Legacy would not have created this immaculate of a package. Thank you, Hollow Horn. Long may you blow. -bobsboots.com

Bob Dylan: Plymouth Rock 1975 (Soundboard) FLAC

released in '97

FLAC + CUE & LOG
Full 600 dpi Scans
Colosseum Records
Bob's Boots says: “This is a 'must have' CD. Period. Fans of Rolling Thunder will find this first venue of the tour to be electrifyingly fresh and vibrant. Everything was new, mysterious, and exciting. The stunned audience would have to wait two more months for the release of this mystical music on the 'Desire' LP. As the tour wore on, some of the spontaneous edge began to dull with the wear and tear of life on the road. Fans of 'Desire' will thrill to the encore magic captured in Dylan's voice and in Scarlet Rivera's violin. Fans of soundboard recordings will be blown away by the incredible quality. Fans of quality performance will tear up over the majestic tapestry Dylan and the troupe weave on stage. All seven of the circulating soundboard recordings from Plymouth, and nine primo choice selections from Waterbury; demand to be in every collection.”

Simon And Garfunkel: Syracuse 1967 (FM) FLAC

rsc033-front
Simon And Garfunkel Live Syracuse University, Syracuse NY 1967-11-xx reel-to-reel "The NET-FM Show" - great early S&G!

OU: This show is from my reel. Upon doing the transfer I noticed that Simon and Garfunkel sounded like Alvin and the Chipmunks. When the show was pitched, it was found to be almost a semitone too high. Pitch was matched to the online program "Virtual Keyboard". This is truly a special Simon and Garfunkel show from the height of their powers, and shouldn't be missed if you like the band.

Setlist: Runtime 27m14s:
A Poem On The Underground Wall
For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her
Overs
Introduction of Edward Simon
Anji
Patterns
The Sounds Of Silence
Scarborough Fair
America
Punky's Dilemma

Known personnel:
Paul Simon
Art Garfunkel
Edward Simon 2nd Guitar
others unknown

Lineage: FM ->?->reel->Sound Forge 6.0 at 24 bit 48Khz ->heavy pitch correction ->60hz notch filter ->downsampling in Sound Forge->FLAC via FLAC frontend, level 6, sectors aligned and verified. Most of the warts in this recording were left in.
Enjoy!

Bob Dylan: The Naked Empire 1984-85 (Studio) FLAC

Empire Cover
The Definitive Empire Burlesque Outtakes Remasterd (1984-85)
XLD Rip
Cue, Log, m3u, md5, st5, ffp
complete Artwork 300 dpi
Godfather Records - GR 218

The Naked Empire on the Godfather label is another release of the Empire Burlesque outtakes that have been released previously. The sessions for Empire Burlesque were held in New York and Hollywood from July 1984 to April 1985.
The first title with these outtakes can be found on Clean Cuts (Sick Cat GRAB003) in 1992. While the sound quality on that release was good it ran too fast. Outside the Empire (Wanted Man WMM 60) followed two years later and the great Dylan label corrected the speed of the tape and produced an excellent edition. Wanted Man was copied on Tempest Storm (no label) in 1997 and this was followed in 1998 by Tempest Storm (Theremin / Golden Archive Vol. 14).
Godfather presents the same track listing with nothing new, but the correct speed has been preserved and the sound quality is an improvement over the Wanted Man issue.
The Naked Empire claims to be remastered on the cover, and the sound quality is very good with very little hiss. There are good notes printed on the inside cover of the tri-fold gatefold sleeve giving accurate recording information for each track. The design is good too, with various publicity photographs from the era and an appropriate eighties color scheme. (GS)

A this and that production.
OU comments: this is the complete concert performed on this night recorded mostly as it happened. a section of the guitar solo was patched in to cover the part missed in the original tape flip, from a re-broadcast of the show on the same station a few months (years?) later. the second tape flip was just after heaven and hell. the recording includes the radio announcer intro, outro and closing credits. I was wishing it had Ozzy (as many probably were) but RJD sounded pretty good (better than
Ozzy did on many nights). as for a disc break, there are a few options, but not alot. this is a completely seamless and uninterrupted recording.

Final Mastering: WAV > Wavelab 5.0a (X-noise to reduce hiss; 192 KhZ resampler > 44.1k;
L3 Multimaximizer to increase gain and dither to 16 bits) > FLAC.

Remastered 2007: Volume boosted, evened out, and EQ applied. There was a 50 second spot in track 3 that was one channel only,
that was repaired by overwriting that portion with the other channel. There were some other low volume spots that were fixed.

The recording runs just shy of 90 minutes.

There are a half-dozen small discontinuities in the recording, including abrupt transitions between songs and small gaps, some with brief silences and others without.

Master - First time proper full digital transfer

Transfer to HD via Sony MZ-M200
Edited with Sony Vegas and Nero Wave

The first transfer uploaded here about a year ago was done improperly, via analog cable into my cd burner. This new version is a proper full-digital transfer. The difference? A recording that I was very unhappy before with now sounds very pleasing to the ears. The guitar I though I should have captured (but could not hear) has now revealed itself.
Good recording but lacking in bass.

Rachel Sweet and the Records: London 1978 (BBC FM) FLAC

xExjHA_ph
photo from one of the below mentioned dates
1978-xx-xx (November for sure; 19-21?)
BBC In Concert, Radio 1 broadcast.
OU: This is extracted from an hour long broadcast including short sets by three of the acts on the 1978 "Be Stiff - Travel by Train" tour of the UK. Probably from London's Paris Theatre, but I could be wrong.
This is a 2nd generation copy of the tape, recorded direct from the radio at the time, despite the occasional sound like a scratch on some vinyl, I can assure you that we did not possess anything more than a tape copy at the time this was made.
The sudden break in of the crowd at the end of a song (such as after Monkey Talk) was on the broadcast. The sound has been cleaned up slightly to reduce the excessive amount of hiss present, without reducing the apparent quality, at least to my ears. Looking at the sound spectrum with Cool Edit, there is very little above about 15KHz, just the hiss. This is not evidence of a lossy lineage, just the quality of the machinery we had available to us in those far-off days. The accompanying frequency analysis shows this drop off quite clearly.

Lineage: FM ->Cassette->cassette (including fades)->CD->PC (Sound Laundry)->FLAC->You

Place: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Tracks: 18
Total Length: 2 Hours 16 Minutes and 10 Seconds

Roger Waters: Bass and Vocals
David Gilmour: Guitars and Vocals
Richard Wright: Keyboards
Nick Mason: Drums

OU: I fixed the speeds of cd2 and 3, notched out band reject filters for hiss control in 3 separate 10hz segments within the 5000-11000hz range. DSOTM was separated into their segments and I EQd the show as best as I could but there were hardly any highs at all above 8-9Khz. Widening the recording range from mono into fake panned stereo seemed to help a little bit. Basically I took an extremely poor recording and made it listenable. Last thing was normalizing the audio at 95%.
