OU Notes: Got this one in a trade with Robert Jablonski in Poland (used to have a great trade site some of you may have seen a couple of years back - don't think it's around any more.
Did the bit with the TAU analyser, he say "yes". Frankly don't know a great deal about it. When I listed it on BZ I said it was marginal whether it was good audience or FM, but have since seen that it's FM, so I'll go with that.

SBD>Sony D6
Master casssette>SonyTC-K760>EdirolR-09HR 24/96>Cool Edit Pro>TLH>FLAC

OU: I was working at another neighborhood bar next store to Cicero's. I couldn't get off early enough to sneak next door for the show, but my D-6 did. Soundman did what he could as far as paying attention to the tape. The tape starts with Ti-Na-Ni-Na-Nu in progress and ends before the last song of the evening finishes (With a Girl Like You), but this is worth having if you're a Chilton fan.

Depeche Mode: London 1993 (FM + Aud) FLAC

depeche_mode_-_1993_songs_of_faith_and_devotion_live
NOT the official release
Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, London, 31-07-1993

Type: radiobroadcast and audience recordings
OU Notes: famous gig at Crystal Palace, played two days after the LiƩvin gig used for official releases ("SOFAD Live", "singles, "Devotional" soundtrack). Only 14 of the 19 songs were broadcasted, and it is possible that two broadcasts exist.
I used 4 sources to provide the most complete version of the radiobroadcasted show. The core of this download is the bootleg CD "Enjoy The Rumours" (KTS 206). This CD has an excellent sound quality, but it has a few flaws :
- the name of the venue (Crystal Palace) is edited during the end of "Halo",
- "Walking In My Shoes" is missing in full,

01 Higher Love [fades in]
02 Policy Of Truth
03 Walking In My Shoes
04 Halo
05 Stripped
06 Condemnation
07 Judas
08 I Feel You
09 Never Let Me Down Again
10 Rush
11 In Your Room
12 Personal Jesus
13 Enjoy The Silence
14 Everything Counts

OU: I realize that many or at least some of you may have this material in your collection already. I did a search and didn't find this exact title in the archives. I discovered live shows on cd through Live Music Review, Hot Wacks, and Goldmine. From 1995 - 1997 I purchased approximately 100 titles. I will be sharing as many of these original silver cd's as allowed on (the torrent site).

Track 1. Jennings Farm Blues (Rehearsal Take) 16.45
Track 2. Jennings Farm Blues (Final Take) 6.10

18. Good Weekend/outro

OU: Recorded and edited by svp, for you. Bernard Lenoir's comments have not been removed. The good point is that the crazy singer doesn't let him speak much. I discovered the band this week end (I borrowed the album -to be released this week) at the shop where I worked. This is EXCELLENT. Pure rock'n'roll spirit, or rather festive punk...
I have not been as excited by a band since Bloc Party and Kings Of Leon.

03. Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay
04. Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again
05. Masters Of War
06. Gotta Serve Somebody

15. I Shall Be Released
16. Like A Rolling Stone
17. Blowin' In The Wind
18. Highway 61 Revisited
Length: 82:09

OU Notes: JEMS master recording. The recording starts out rough with microphone level and connection issues but clears up before the end of Maggie's Farm. Unfortunately the volume on the recording was very low to begin with so a lot of mastering work was put in to pull the everything front and center(including a good level of hiss from the microphones during the quieter sections) but the end result is a tremendously improved and listenable recording.

"Europe 1993" is a bootleg release by Red Line - Rarities & Few in 1993 with catalogue number RFCD 1295. It looks that the same show was released by KTS under the title "Save Me".
The origin of this recording is not known to me but it looks like it is pre-FM, FM or Soundboard because the sound quality is very very good. The original cover for this presents a different line up but the one posted here is the real one for this show. It was taken from the gigography section on THE THE website http://www.thethe.com
Also this recording is an update of the one posted here and recorded from the BBC 6 Music because it includes one more song than that broadcast.
Enjoy this great show and share it in its full glory, no mp3 but above all DON'T

Time: 11 Tracks/73:25

OU: Got this bootleg in MINT condition from Ebay and ripped it myself. This is, in my humble opinion, one of the BEST Rage Against The Machine bootlegs ever recorded.
Zack's spoken word during Wake Up is breathtaking as is his speech at the end of Hadda Be Playin' On The Jukebox (improperly named J.F.K. on the album). Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

OU Comments: This show captures the final night of the 1981 Private Eyes tour. The performance is terrific - top notch efforts from Daryl Hall, G.E. Smith (guitar) and Charlie DeChant (saxophone) - and the energy level is very high.
The sound quality is very good but not perfect (most will probably rate it an "A"). This show is the perfect complement to the commercial release "Greatest Hits Live," which is a compilation from the Private Eyes tour.
The commercial release obviously has superior sound but it's missing the medley/band introductions, between song banter, and attitude of a band peaking and knowing it.

02/10/75 - UPTOWN THEATRE, MILWAUKEE. WI
MEETING ACROSS THE RIVER (start cut)(2.53)/ 10TH AVENUE FREEZE OUT (3.43)/ SPIRIT IN THE NIGHT (6.20)/ PRETTY FLAMINGO (8.48)/ SHES THE ONE (5.03)/ BORN TO RUN (4.11)/ THUNDER ROAD (5.33)
First set interupted by a bomb scare in the theatre.
LITTLE QUEENIE (fades in) (8.43)/ E ST SHUFFLE (intro. 14.20) (song 10.20)/ SAINT IN THE CITY (5.20)/ SHA LA LA (2.49)/ JUNGLELAND (9.41)/ KITTY'S BACK (18.34)/ ROSALITA (10.40)/ DETROIT MEDLEY (4.11)/ 4TH JULY ASBURY PARK (SANDY) (6.40)/ QUARTER TO THREE (7.20)

Audience tape of first part of show. The famous bomb scare show (aka "Are you loose?") Entire second set after clearing the building was put on a soundboard. This is the first known Little Queenie and is hilarious as the band had been in the bar for about 2 hours. The second set also exists on a audience shot film. CD releases "Milwaukee Bomb Scare Show" (Mistral Music) & "We Had Too Much To Drink Last Night" (BS).

Review (Courtesy of Wanted Magazine)
Wanted - The Bruce Springsteen Bootleg Guide (Volume 1)
This brilliant show has been previously released on "We Had Too Much To Drink Tonight". Then it was in mono and in very good soundquality. This release is in stereo and has excellent sound. Unfortunately, the soundquality drops on disc two. There's suddenly a hiss presenton the first part. It gets a little better along the way. The two discs feature the part of the show after the band returned to the from their hotel after the place had been searched for explosives. Here you find the uncut version of the show. (The first version had blanks between songs.) This preserves the great atmosphere (partly created because Bruce had one drink too many at the hotelbar). Also the songorder has not been tempered with so you can fully enjoy this of this part show as it was actually performed.
Packaging: 8,5
Sound: 9 (Soundboard)
Collecting Value: 8,5

Review (Courtesy of The Promise)
I am probably in the minority here, thinking that if Springsteen should ever decide to release one entire show it should be this one. Actually it is not even an entire show, for the opening few songs (mainly from Born to Run) are missing.
Some time into the show someone called in a bomb threat and the venue, Milwaukee's Uptown Theater, was temporarily evacuated. This set has been registered after the band returned to the building. And "let me tell you, there they was" pissed like hell. After spending some time in a bar, Springsteen and the gang reopen the show with a rousing version of Little Queenie preceded by a hilarious introduction during which Bruce repeatedly asks the audience "Are you loose"? This version of Queenie is in my opinion one of at least three classic performances from this night.
Following is the set, which technically was perhaps far from perfect, but was played like it was the band's last performance ever, or last live show on Earth for that matter. E Street Shuffle lazy and chatty as ever and full of soul, Saint in The City with some chilling guitar licks, then Bruce calls for "moment of silence, Steve's guitar broke": Sha La La follows played at punk speed. Fine performance of Jungleland closes the first disc.
The best version of Kitty's Back known to this reviewer opens the second disc. It is jazzy, it is messy and drunk, yet just when you think the whole composition is going to fall to pieces it explodes and returns again, and again, and again. Classic number two on this great disc. Rosalita together with an early and fine ("the favorite song in the world!") Detroit Medley are next and then the main set closes with an always beautiful version of Sandy.
As for the classic performance number three from this night it has to be Quarter to Three. It is played with passion and the a capella part seems extra long. At some point the band stops and Bruce has some fun with the audience asking if they "don't wanna go home?" Bruce ends the song with his famous confession: "I am just a prisoner of rock'n'roll."
After hearing this show you will be one too.
Soundwise, this is a soundboard, but not a perfect one, for there is some distortion in the beginning of Kitty's Back and the louder passages are a bit muffled. Still the sound is clear and bright, very "live," whatever that may mean.
I guess the best way I can describe it is that as far as live recordings are concerned, this one makes you feel like you were there in the first row. Boy, I wish. If you are going to own one live recording in your life this has to be the one.
Sound: 8-
Tracklist: 8
Performance: 9

Enjoy The Show

Steve Walsh and Streets: Demos 1982 (Studio) FLAC

Steve Walsh & Streets Demos
Source - Studio Tapes

OU: I present to you the 2nd, in a series of 3 discs of Steve Walsh/Streets demos. Whereas the first disc was mainly made up of Walsh demos, this disc features demos made by STREETS in late 1982. Out of the 3 discs, this one is the real gem in my opinion. It's fantastic to hear the demos for "All I Wanted" which would eventually be released by Kansas in 1986 on the fantastic POWER album. Although Steve Morse is credited as co-writing that version, we can clearly see from the demos that it is primarily Walsh's tune, and Morse would only add a short bridge to it for the Kansas recording. In addition to this we have absolutely smokin' versions of "Lonely Woman's Cry," "Fire," and "Move On." I would like to thank fellow DIME user Lamplight for sharing this treasure with me and allowing me to upload it for all to enjoy.

Dan Fogelberg: New York 1979 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

Dan Fogelberg NYC 1978-04-18-fr
The Lostbrook Tape Series - Volume 21

OU: I was well known as a taper at my college radio station, and when I volunteered to work as an usher for this concert, my DJ friends were quick to laugh and point out that I wouldn’t be able to tape the show. I played along as if this were an unsolvable dilemma, muttering that I had made a big mistake and would have to sacrifice one for my school. In reality, it was one of my easiest taping experiences. There was no risk of being caught at the door, and I was able to keep the Sanyo hidden backstage while I did some ushering. Well before show time, I gave the recorder to a friend who conveniently had an aisle seat in my section. I spent most of the concert sitting on the steps next to my friend, holding my recorder, occasionally handing it off to do something “usherly.” In the end, I produced one of my finest tapes and had the last laugh at the radio station when I walked in the next morning and pressed “play.” I strongly recommend this tape, especially to those who might think that Dan Fogelberg’s music was a little too “soft” or middle of the road. This is an amazing solo performance by a brilliant songwriter and one of my favorite tapes.

Recorded by Ken & Judy Lee on a Sony 124 cassette deck with Sony dynamic mics on a TDK normal bias tape. Microphones were set up in the balcony with a 10-20 foot spread.) Original tape was baked in "Susie Q", shell replaced and transferred on a Tascam 122mk3 via a Lucid ADA1000 Analog to Digital

A phenomenal recording and performance by Traffic, from a classic period. This was put on TTD but pulled because because a small defect on track two. I fixed it by cutting about 1/90th of a second off the end.

Tracks look like CDDA with probability 99-100%. Successfully encoded to 'flac' with sector alignments. Files tested ok (files decodable without error). Checksum file saved to disk. No errors occured. - dave@qb

17. Convalescing in Spain (live in Chicago 1993)
18. Naked (live in Chicago 1993)
19. My Dead Friend (live in Chicago 1993)

This is a high-quality compilation of demos & live tracks which began to circulate among Judybats fans in the mid-1990s. There can be no doubt that the band supplied these recordings, as they are absolutely top-notch in terms of sound quality (not to mention the fact that the demos are unlikely to have surfaced without the band's participation). That being said, this is certainly not a formal release by Sire / Warner Bros. or any other record company, and I have no evidence that it was ever circulated on a factory-pressed CD. Aside from the four officially released b-side tracks (omitted -see track listing) the remainder of these tracks should be perfectly acceptable to upload here.
A couple of notes: the first three songs are entirely unreleased in any other form, as are the songs "Just Like Life" and "Naked". "All Day Afternoon", "Margot Known As Missy", and "Convalescing in Spain" are all performed in high-speed / high-intensity versions that differ substantially from their studio counterparts.
Last but not least - this version of "My Dead Friend" puts the original to shame. Highly recommended!!

Grateful Dead: Monterey Pop Festival 1967 (Soundboard) FLAC

new source!
Monterey_Pop_Festival_[front]
Monterey Pop Festival Fairgrounds 06/18/67
Monterey, CA
Lineage: SBD Master Reels > DAT (Panasonic 3700) > Delta DiO 2496 >
PC hard drive > CDR > CDWAV > Cool Edit > Traders Little Helper

1. Viola Lee Blues 14:12
2. "The Beatles aren't here"* 0:51
3. Tuning > 1:29
4. Cold Rain and Snow 3:49
5. Alligator > 8:27
6. Caution (Do Not Stop on Tracks) 11:38
7. Bill Graham outro** 0:44

Thanks to anonymous for the discs
OU Notes: This is a previously uncirculated source for this show and in comparison to the prior most recently circulated source (etree.org - http://db.etree.org/shninfo_detail.php?shnid=19586)
offers us the following:
- a known lineage without a stated cassette generation (or the uncertainty of one)
- a couple of additional minutes of between tunes banter and stage announcements and most importantly,
- an improved fidelity. Noteworthy, are a more complete Bill Graham outro following Caution and the right and left channels remaining intact from the transfer as they appear to be reversed on the prior circulating source. Also, tracks are now all at the correct pitch vs. being a semitone flat on earlier circulating sources.
Track editing, pitch correction, minor edits and sector boundary correction and verification done by Seth Kaplan via CDWAV, Cool Edit 2k and Traders Little Helper, respectively. Entire show was pitch corrected up one half step via Cool Edit 2k and Apple GarageBand.

* Emcee on "The Beatles aren't here" is apparently NOT Tommy Smothers as previously indicated in notes to the prior most recently circulating source of the Dead's set at Monterey Pop. The emcee is currently stated to have actually been Peter Tork of The Monkees who MC'd at the festival and whose voice on audio was compared to that of Tork introducing Buffalo Springfield on the outtakes disc of "The Complete Monterey Pop Festival" DVD and determined to be a match. (Source: Billy K. at etree.org - http://db.etree.org/shninfo_detail.php?shnid=19586)
** With regards to the Alligator > Caution potentially non-Monterey source issue noted on Deadlists and quoted below, it appears that the additional Bill Graham outro segment in addition to comparative listening across multiple selections serves to support the notion that this part of the tape is indeed from Monterey due to both its stated content and from consistency with the other material in terms of general ambience, audience sound and unique sonic characteristics appearing throughout all of the material. First off, on the earlier source(s) Bill Graham's voice trails off half way through his opening remark after Caution, loosely interpreted by Deadlists below. The new source doesn't trail off and he can basically be heard to say, "Let's go just one more time, let's hear it again, The Grateful Dead", perhaps indicating this as a possible ending to an encore. Furthermore, he continues on with a few more lines, the most informative of which is:
"When they talk about those peace talks this week, they should come out here first for a couple of days." Preceding this statement he specifically names the following individuals who were in fact, then recent and upcoming peace talk participants:
President Lyndon B. Johnson/Israeli Prime Minister Levi Eshkol/Russian Premier Alexei Kosygin. According to Deadlists, 6/18/67 Monterey Pop was the last show played prior to 7/13/67. Graham's statement referencing "those peace talks this week" likely refers to the well publicized upcoming Glassboro Summit Conference featuring Johnson and Kosygin scheduled later that week for 23-25 June 1967, just five days after Monterey. A week before Monterey, the 1967 Arab-Israeli War, fought between June 5 and June 10, 1967 had featured Eshkol as a key player in the peace negotiations and was an inspiration for the Glassboro Summit talks between the U.S. and Russia. This, along with general consistencies amongst several sound factors, appear to support Alligator > Caution as being from the same performance as the rest of the material featured within the tape.

From Deadlists (as of 07/10/2011): Comments: Alligator > Caution may not be from Monterey. What makes me suspicious is that at the conclusion of Caution, Bill Graham is heard to say something like "let's hear it for the Grateful Dead." Bill Graham was not the emcee at the Monterey Pop Festival, so it's doubtful he would introduce the band from the stage. However, some folks have speculated that since Graham was in attendance and a friend of the Dead, he might have done the intro and or the outro as a "guest emcee." The Alligator is a curiosity; it's a very primordial version without vocals

Recordings: (50) SB. Cold Rain And Snow And Viola Lee Blues from master reel > 1 cassette generation > DAT > circulation; also Alligator (without vocals) > Caution from master reels > DAT > circulation. Master recording source(s): 14inch Master Reel

Deep Purple: Amsterdam 1969 (Soundboard) FLAC

690824 Richies Blues Front
1969-08-24 Ritchie's Blues (official track removed)
Paradiso, Amsterdam, Holland
Ritchies Blues
Source: Soundboard?

Review (from "the highwaystar.com"): Considered to be the best sounding Paradiso boot, This is considered to be one of the essential DP boots, as it's the earliest known MkII performance in existence.Ritchie's Blues is infinitely better than Crash Landing. It's a superb look at early MKII, and surprisingly clear considering the age of the recording. Mandrake Root is cut shortly into Lord's solo and fades out, but other than that it's a fantastic show. Kneel And Pray shows the band had a fairly clear vision of what they wanted Speed King to sound like from the beginning. A little fine tuning on the lyrics and a tightening of the arrangement and a year later it appeared on In Rock in all it's manic glory. It's kind of odd hearing the band play a blistering set and not hear any audience response though. Gillan makes reference to the nice smell coming from the audience, so apparently the crowd was pleasantly sedated.

About "The RS Archives":
The RS Archive consists of a selection of live recordings made by a great individual who passed away in 2005.
RS worked in the music industry in many capacities….a music fan….a musician….a sound engineer. He was considered one of the best behind the mixing board. I was honored to have known him for practically 35 years. There was no one like him….he was a wonderful human being. Everybody loved him. He was a level-headed guy who knew what sounded good and what didn't. He could conceive and design sound systems from scratch in his head to meet the artist’s needs. Whatever they wanted, he could do.
For years, he mixed music at the annual Grammy Awards and the American Music Awards television show. RS worked closely for years with Daryl Hall and John Oates, Juice Newton, Anita Baker, Mariah Carey, Tears for Fears, Crack the Sky, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Aretha Franklin, Pink Floyd, Whitney Houston, Bette Midler, Ann Murray, Michael Bolton, Kenny G, Tony Bennett, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, John Fogerty, Bonnie Raitt, Frank Sinatra, John Hiatt, Little Feat, Little Village, and Waylon Jennings…..to name a few.
He had a huge reputation in the business, and that's why he was chosen to work with such budding clients as Mariah Carey. With the major stars, he was one of the preferred engineers they choose to work with. A particular client of RS who had a reputation for firing sound engineers with great regularity was Anita Baker, whom he won over not only with his technical abilities and personality, but with his refusal to put up with her criticism. He quit a few times but always came back because she loved the way he mixed her music. He could coddle difficult and temperamental celebrities, and they respected his work. He was able to kick back and get along with them. Even though he knew these people, he was a very modest man.
So now, it is time to honor him by sharing some of the many recordings he made while on the road. All are perfect (or near perfect) soundboard recordings made from the master cassettes or master dat tapes. Unfortunately, I am not able to identify the original equipment these tapes were made on, however I can say that for the transferring process, the cassette tapes were played back on a Nakamichi CR-7A, and the dat tapes on a Sony PCM-R500. They were all burnt onto cdr using a HHB CDR-850.
Please enjoy these tasty gems!
