Tears For Fears: Cleveland 1990 (Soundboard) FLAC

Tears_For_Fears-Shout-Frontal
Public Hall
Cleveland, OH
Feb. 12, 1990
Excellent soundboard recording
Another stellar recording from "The RS Arvhives" (a Mexminute/TheCommish production)

TheCommish notes:
On previous "RS Archives" torrents, several of you requested a Tears For Fears show from the archive. Well, you're going to LOVE this awesome-sounding show!
A caveat, however: Since I am not a Tears For Fears fan, I had to research almost all of the song titles below. I think I got everything correct, but please forgive me if any of the titles are incorrect.
Also, this show came to me as "Unknown venue" and with an April 1990 date. After doing some research, I found that this Cleveland show was held at Public Hall on Feb. 12, 1990. The website below lists all of the 1990 tour dates:
http://www.tearsforfears.de/images/Tour/TFFonTour-V1.03CRev1.htm

101. I Believe
102. Head Over Heels/Broken
103. Change
104. Woman In Chains
105. Advice For The Young At Heart
106. Mad World
107. The Working Hour
108. Famous Last Words

201. I've Got To Sing My Song (Oleta Adams)
202. Badman's Song
203. Band introductions
204. Sowing The Seeds Of Love
205. All You Need Is Love
206. Everybody Wants To Rule The World
207. Encore break
208. Year Of The Knife
209. Shout

Lineage: SBD > master cassette > CDR > EAC > WAV > Editing (below) > FLAC Frontend > FLAC
Editing notes: * Re-tracked show (combined WAV files in Nero, then re-split with CD Wave)

Note #1: I decided to create a separate track for the encore break--which is really just crowd applause--since it lasts roughly two minutes; tracking it this way allows you the option of skipping over the "applause" track when you listen to the show... and thereby saving two minutes of listening time.
Note #2: The volume on both CDs is just below 90dB; I did not make any adjustment to the volume, although some of you who prefer louder recordings may want to increase the volume 1-2 dB with your favorite wave editor if you feel the volume should be slightly louder.

Band:
Roland Orzabal - vocals, guitars
Curt Smith - vocals, bass
Adele Bertei - backing vocals
Biti Strauchn - backing vocals
Andrew Davis - keyboards
Carole Steele - percussion
Jimmy Copley - drums
William Gregory - saxaphone, keyboards
Neil Taylor - guitar
Oleta Adams - vocals

About "The RS Archives": The RS Archive consists of a selection of live recordings made by a great individual who passed away in 2005.
RS worked in the music industry in many capacities….a music fan….a musician….a sound engineer. He was considered one of the best behind the mixing board. I was honored to have known him for practically 35 years. There was no one like him….he was a wonderful human being. Everybody loved him. He was a level-headed guy who knew what sounded good and what didn't. He could conceive and design sound systems from scratch in his head to meet the artist’s needs. Whatever they wanted, he could do.
For years, he mixed music at the annual Grammy Awards and the American Music Awards television show. RS worked closely for years with Daryl Hall and John Oates, Juice Newton, Anita Baker, Mariah Carey, Tears for Fears, Crack the Sky, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Aretha Franklin, Pink Floyd, Whitney Houston, Bette Midler, Ann Murray, Michael Bolton, Kenny G, Tony Bennett, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, John Fogerty, Bonnie Raitt, Frank Sinatra, John Hiatt, Little Feat, Little Village, and Waylon Jennings…..to name a few.
He had a huge reputation in the business, and that's why he was chosen to work with such budding clients as Mariah Carey. With the major stars, he was one of the preferred engineers they choose to work with. A particular client of RS who had a reputation for firing sound engineers with great regularity was Anita Baker, whom he won over not only with his technical abilities and personality, but with his refusal to put up with her criticism. He quit a few times but always came back because she loved the way he mixed her music. He could coddle difficult and temperamental celebrities, and they respected his work. He was able to kick back and get along with them. Even though he knew these people, he was a very modest man.
So now, it is time to honor him by sharing some of the many recordings he made while on the road. All are perfect (or near perfect) soundboard recordings made from the master cassettes or master dat tapes. Unfortunately, I am not able to identify the original equipment these tapes were made on, however I can say that for the transferring process, the cassette tapes were played back on a Nakamichi CR-7A, and the dat tapes on a Sony PCM-R500. They were all burnt onto cdr using a HHB CDR-850.
Please enjoy these tasty gems!

Jethro Tull: Anaheim 1970 (VG+ Aud Vinyl Rip) FLAC

1970 - Jethro Tull - Di, Di, My Lovely
October 19, 1970
Anaheim Convention Center
Anaheim, California

LP > Denon DJ101 Turntable > Pioneer SX-790 > Audacity 24/96(tracked and dithered to 16/44.1) Normalized/DC Offsets corrected > Flac6

OU: I found this record at Princeton Record Exchange for 10 or 12 bucks. The vinyl appears in very nice condition, I'd say VG+ conservatively, but then I do hear plenty of dusty sounds when played, so this record was probably made from one of the TMOQ versions that wasn't the best copy condition wise. I have no scanner, so I added pics of it. One (2nd from the right) of the girls looks like Pamela DeBarres of groupie fame in the late 60's early 70's in the LA area, but not positive on that. From the pics of Lady Di I am assuming this vinyl bootleg was made not long after that Lady Di boobs falling out of her dress incident. So, if anyone knows more about this bootleg, let us all know and I can update the info .txt file and attach it in a message to replace the current one.

01 - Nothing Is Easy (07:44)
02 - My God (10:30)
03 - We Used To Know (03:07)
04 - With You There To Help Me / By Kind Permission Of (12:20)
05 - Song For Jeffrey (04:56)
06 - Sossity, You're A Woman (05:20)

OU comments: The B-52s played three nights in a row in this little club on their
"cosmic thing" tour, which was probably the height of the band's popularity in Boston. America's favorite party band had 3 hits (at least) from this record, roam, channel Z and love shack. they were in a very upbeat mood for this show (aren't they always ready for a party in their concerts?) and so was the crowd. the taper must have had a pretty good spot since the crowd is pretty loud but the crowd noise on the recording is not very loud. I only had to do a little bit of clap reduction to this one. it's missing maybe about the last 30 seconds or so of "roam", because
the 1st side of tape ran out, otherwise this seems to be the full show.
Everybody likes to party with the B-52's, and nobody doesn't like Sara Lee. "Citi" used to be "Metro" and later became "Avalon", one of the endless series of clubs on Landsdowne Street, right behind the most famous tin structure in all of Boston- Fenway Park's "Green Monstah" (the left field wall, which after injuring Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, Jim Rice, Mike Greenwell, Johnny Damon, and Manny Ramirez, still has the steel spikes sticking out of it that did all that damage, so it's only a matter of time before another Carl Crawford is added to that dubius list)

Taper's Notes: Well, a few days before seeing the 2011 opening night show from the front row I had a decision to make, do I make the trip up for the Chicago show.... after the 2nd show in Chicago last year was postponed and I was not able to make it for the make up date, I finally decided it was worth the chance, especially since it was inside at a proper venue and hopefully the crowd was a bit better than last year at the horrible outdoor thing they choose to call a venue.
It all paid off bigtime, no problems in getting up to Chicago from FL, great weather, and of course the great hospitality of SiriusJoe!! After arriving at the venue and a very short trip to get inside I made the trek to find where my seat was, I knew what row I was in, but not until I got to the row did I realize I was on the outer aisle and that made all the difference in the world! The crowd was pretty well behaved around me and having the ability to slightly adjust to things with no-one crammed around me is always a good thing :)
The boys put on a great show, the place was pretty packed and they definitely fed off of that. The sound was great where I was and the mix was overall very nice. It made for some great versions of many songs and they were enjoying themselves very much, Geddy seemed very into it and was going off on the bass quite bit. Alex was very outgoing as well and simply shredded during Working Man with Geddy right next to him doing the same. Neil was great as well of course ;) This is what a concert in Chicago should be all about!!!!
Special thanks to cameraeye_34 for the use of the photos for the artwork! And of course, a very, very special thanks to SiriusJoe and his family for the awesome hospitality and making it all a great time and also to SiriusJoe for mastering this puppy!!!

Release Notes: As always, feel free to share this anywhere you'd like, MP3 is fine for personal use, but please don't distribute in that format. Please do not alter/remaster/matrix this release. A great deal of effort went into capturing and producing this recording, and we would prefer it to remain as we have presented it. Your cooperation will encourage many more releases in the future. ;)
Thanks & enjoy the show!

Original Uploader (OU) Note: Early River tour show, 2 weeks after the start of the
tour (10/3), second night in St. Louis, from a 2nd generation source. Quality is good, clean and clear and is one of the better quality shows from the first few weeks of the tour, the taper did a nice job on tape flips, I don't recall any cut songs. Quality is extremely consistent throughout the show until the last two songs, between encores it sounded like Bruce sucked down some helium. Therefore I had to speed correct the last two songs (-125 cents) which gave that segment a bit more bass so I boosted the high shelf a tad to make it better match the rest of the
show.

OU Comments: Recorded live at 'Jan-Douwe Kroeske's 2 Meter Sessie' for VARA Radio, NOB Audiostudio 1, Hilversum, The Netherlands, 5 March 1994
In 1994 the '2 Meter Sessies' was a radio-only show, airing on Dutch VARA Radio and presented by Jan-Douwe Kroeske (height: 2 meter), where artists/bands could do a alternate live in-studio performance without audience. Tool chose to do a loud-louder-loudest performance (notice the amp-noise!) without any alterations. None of these tracks are officially released. In 1994 only 'Sober' was broadcasted.
At that time of recording this session, there were no television broadcasts of the '2 Meter Sessies', so it's very plausible that this performance is not filmed.
In 2001, Jan-Douwe Kroeske, now on Dutch KinkFM Radio, had to do some serious searching for the original DAT-recording after massive requests by Dutch Tool-adepts. This resulted in broadcasting the complete session twice; the first broadcast had some annoying radio station ID's that spoiled the track intros/outros, the second broadcast didn't have any radio station ID's. So the latter was used for these flac's.

Wiki has the following about the band: Voyager were an English pop-rock band, formed initially in Newbury, Berkshire, as 'The Paul French Connection' by Paul French (vocals, keyboards), Paul Hirsh (keyboards, guitar), Chris Hook (bass guitar), and former member of Mr Big, John Marter (drums). Although they initially saw themselves as a progressive rock group, they had to tailor their style to a more commercial mood, as evidenced by their debut single, "Halfway Hotel". It was their only hit, reaching #33 in the UK Singles Chart in 1979, and duly becoming the title track of their first album.
A second album Act of Love (1980) yielded a turntable hit (heavily played on music radio without ever entering the charts), "Sing Out (Love Is Easy)". Part of the instrumental section of the single was used for some time thereafter as background music for the chart rundown on BBC Radio 1 each week.
A third album Voyager, followed in 1981 and featured Dominic Telfer on bass guitar, replacing Chris Hook. A single from this album, "Rosie", achieved some radio play but no chart success.
In 1981, they undertook two key tours, promoting the third album. The first tour was in support of the Greg Lake Band (ex Emerson, Lake & Palmer). During December 1981 the band supported the Electric Light Orchestra on the english leg of their world "Time" tour. They played Wembley Arena and Birmingham NEC.
In the absence of further chart success, they subsequently disbanded. A compilation, Travels in Time - The Best of the Early Years, was issued on CD in 2004, containing digitally-remastered versions of thirteen songs from the first two albums, plus a previously unreleased track, "Time On Our Side". All three of the first albums, mastered from the vinyls, have now been released on CD by Japanese label Air Mail Recordings.
Marter later joined Marillion, then Alaska, and since 1994 has played on and off with the SAS Band, a loose conglomeration of musicians and singers led by Spike Edney, former keyboard player on stage with Queen. He and Hook have also worked with The Purple Project, a Deep Purple tribute band as well as the Yes tribute act, Fragile, while Hook also plays with semi-pro outfit Bluefish. Hirsh temporarily joined Status Quo for live performances in 2000, whilst their regular keyboard player and guitarist Andy Bown took a break for personal reasons. French went on to compose classical pieces premiered at the Wigmore Hall by Endymion Ensemble, and composed production music in various styles for Chappell Music Library. It is unclear what happened to Telfer.
More recently Voyager reunited to record another album, entitled Eyecontact. However, their lack of further chart success leave them labeled as one-hit wonders.

Show description & comments follow: This is a weird one. It came as filler on a trade marked "James Gang - Kent State - WMMS - '68". It appears to be a live in the studio recording. Of course, WMMS-FM was in Cleveland, and Kent State wasn't (but close), so maybe the connection is that the band were students at Kent State, and the tape was taken to WMMS-FM to be broadcast? WMMS-FM started up circa October 1968, so it likely has to be after that. Walsh's guitar is way up in the mix, and Fox's drums are a bit buried, but for the era it sounds pretty good. I'm calling this "Jeff's Boogie Jam" as that's the basic theme for most of it, but there's countless BEATLES, YARDBIRDS and many other riffs present here. Lots of wah-wah and echoplex, especially towards the end. If anybody knows more details about this session, and whether there was more of it, please leave that information in the comments section for everybody's benefit.
Enjoy.

Thelonious Monk Quartet: 2 FM Shows from 1966-1967 (FLAC)

Newport Jazz Festival
Newport, RI - July 2, 1966

lineage: FM? > ? > flac on DVD in trade > Easy DC-DA Extractor
The sound on this one is in the A- range, generally very clear, but a bit hissy in the quieter parts.

01. Evidence (11:32)
02. Light Blue (10:49)
03. Japanese Folk Song [Kojo No Tsuki] (10:08)

NOTE: The Monk discography at www.jazzdisco.org lists this date (with a somewhat different track listing) as "Blue Monk" (Black Lion (J) 32JDB 137). However, extensive research has not shown any evidence that such an album was released. The "London Sessions" (all from 1971) appear to be the only Monk releases on Black Lion. In addition, Mosaic's "The Complete Black Lion and Vogue Recordings of Thelonious Monk" does not include this set.

*Released in a 4:16 version on "Straight No Chaser" (the movie soundtrack album - Columbia CK 45358). Sheriden notes that "this was spliced from several sources, including an on-tour rehearsal, being drawn from the Charlotte Zwerin/Bruce Ricker film documentary, "Straight No Chaser."
The version I have is 24:27 and the real gem of this show, as all members of the nonet take solos. I have no means of splicing out the officially released portions, and I am thus unable to upload them. This seems pretty rare, since the 4:16 version of I Mean You is the only portion of this concert catalogued by Sheridan.

The Beetles: Blackpool 1964 (Soundboard) FLAC

speed corrected version now available too by request
640723d
The Beatles performed on the television show "Blackpool Night Out" twice in their career. Four tracks from the second appearance, in 1965, were included on the "Anthology 2" cd's. This is the first appearance, which has never been officially released in any form.
The performance took place on July 19, 1964, at the ABC Theatre In Blackpool. The show was broadcast live by ITV. It marked the first performances of the songs "A Hard Day's Night" and "If I Fell", both of which were featured on the "A Hard Day's Night" LP, released in the UK nine days earlier.
"Can't Buy Me Love" had been in their setlist since April 1964 (the single was released in March), "You Can't Do That" had been added in June, and "Long Tall Sally" had been a long-time standard of the band.

Lineage: Reel-to-Reel (7.5 ips) >> CD-R >> FLAC
In addition to the songs, the Beatles also took part in some comedy bits, the audio of which is included here, from an inferior source than the songs, so the above lineage doesn't apply to the first track.

02 - Intro
03 - A Hard Day's Night
04 - Things We Said Today

This is a splendid release, a copy of a CDR that was sold in 1993. Well, this Italian disc is the first pressed issue, so it will count as the original. The sound quality is excellent, and all songs are BBC recordings. The cover is a bit blurry, but it doesn't matter when the disc is packed with interesting stuff! Great!

Definitely SBD - sounds to my ears like possibly an FM broadcast. Maybe someone with more Pixies knowledge can shed some light on that? Anyways an excellent show I obtained in a trade years ago.

OU Comments: This is the new 'HBNL' source. True intro to "Money" and "Hello Little Girl", possible longer outros to some songs (haven't fully compared). Basically this was one of the 1st dubs from the master edit reel which was possibly used for the bootlegs that came out in the 70s. Though just google this title and you might find out more about this material from other forums. This is as good as it gets though people might argue. Can this source be remastered? Should it?
Beetle people who have heard this already say: "Get this NOW! It cannot possibly be improved upon. As far as Decca Tapes go, all other issues are now officially obsolete."
"Sounds really good!"
"Congratulations on this! I did some very careful listening to "Like Dreamers Do" from about a half dozen sources and this one not only seems the best, it is amazingly close to the Anthology version."
"Sounds incredible."
"Thank you for this. Finally got a chance to do some in-depth analysis on this, and it is indeed better than what I thought was previously the best source.. Plus, yours is at the correct speed!"

Renaissance: London 1973 (FM) FLAC

a very enjoyable show!
for back
Live at The De Lane Lea Studios, 75 Dean Street, Soho, London, 1973

De Lane Lea Studios is a recording studio, currently based in Dean Street, Soho, London, England, UK. Although the studios have mainly been used for dubbing feature films and television programmes, major artists such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Pink Floyd, Electric Light Orchestra and Deep Purple have recorded songs in their studios, particularly at their former premises at 129 Kingsway and at Engineers Way, Wembley, where Queen recorded demos in 1971.
Major Jacques De Lane Lea, a French intelligence attaché for the British Government, founded De Lane Lea Studios in 1947 to dub English films into French. The studios were adapted according to the demands of the market and expanded significantly on various sites in the 1960s and ’70s. Music recording increased dramatically and the growth of commercial radio and TV also led to new work in advertising.
De Lane Lea now specialises in Sound post-production for cinema and television. It includes 6 individual studios, including Studio 1, the biggest in-town dubbing theatre with one of Europe's most powerful AMS Neve DFC mixing consoles, built on what was previously a TV studio and before that an orchestral recording studio.Recently the studios have been used for films by directors such as Nick Park, Tim Burton, Mike Newell, Guillermo del Toro and Chris Weitz.
Here's Renaissance (with special guests Andy Powell and Al Stewart on Ashes Are Burning).
This is a recording with around fifty minutes and some channel drop-outs but still very pleasant to hear.

Bob's Boots Review (http://www.bobsboots.com/CDs/cd-d41.html):
A wonderful 'must-have' CD for anyone interested in the beginnings of a legend. It contains the complete circulating tapes of two historic 1961 recordings. There is an 8 page booklet that is included in the set that lists the tracks, and gives historical information of the two recordings in English, French, Italian, and German. The english page can be seen here (http://www.bobsboots.com/CDs/d-41i.jpg). The CD itself is silk-screened with the image on the front of the booklet. Highly recommended.

Georgia Satellites: Reading 1987 (Ex FM) FLAC

zoom_2c05dc2e1aaf4ae4ad951a35f60f7e7d
Live At The Reading Festival, England, 29 August 1987
LINEAGE: FM Broadcast - Cassette - Rme Digi 96/8 Pro Soundcard - WAV - FLAC (Level 8 Compression)
Recorded In 24 Bit With Adobe Audition 2.0, Normalized Then Converted To 16 Bit With Dither
Converted To Flac With Easy Cd-Da Extractor 12

1. The Myth Of Love
2. No Particular Place To Go
3. Battleship Chains
4. Nights Of Mystery
5. I Just Wanna Make Love To You
6. Can't Stand The Pain
7. Keep Your Hands To Yourself
8. Sweet Little Rock 'N' Roller

OU: This was from a re-broadcast in the early 90s on Alan "Fluff" Freeman's (RIP) Saturday Rock Show. I was a bit late hitting the record button so "Hello England" got missed! Other than that it is the complete broadcast.
It sounds like there is an edit between tracks 6 and 7 - I have no idea if there are songs missing or just some chat. I'd be interested to hear if anyone knows anything about that.
I've faded in the beginning but left the ending intact for people to do whatever they like with, mainly because I think fadeouts with Audition don't sound right and I'm temporarily without Pro Tools!

Transferred: Nakamichi CR-7A (azimuth adjusted) --> Sound Devices USBPre2 audio interface (24/96) --> Audacity 1.3 --> Converted from 24/96 to 16/44.1 using Isotope RX --> Speed corrected and lightly EQed in Adobe Audition --> Split using batch function --> Traders Little Helper --> Flac

2. 10th Avenue Freeze-Out
3. Jungleland
4. Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)
5. Baby I Love You (with Ronnie Spector)
6. Walking in the Rain (with Ronnie Spector)
7. Be My Baby (with Ronnie Spector)
8. 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)
9. We Gotta Get Out of This Place
10. Born To Run

OU Notes: Similar to the recent February 5, 1975, Main Point disc 2 upgrade, here is another upgrade of the second half of a show. This time, it's the final show of the second short tour of 1976, from the Palladium in New York City on November 4.
This show had been available from a soundboard source basically forever, but with a source change in Jungleland, there's a noticeable drop in quality. This new source -- also a soundboard -- is able to upgrade the sound from Rosalita through the end of the show (meaning there's still a source change in Jungleland).
For the first two songs (and the Bomb Scare Announcement), we used the KBMKeefer release "Streak of Light Through the Tunnel," which had previously been the best version of this show.
Unfortunately, the new source was missing about 33 seconds in the middle of Sandy, so the "Streak of Light" source was used to complete the song (starting with the "I spoke to them last night" line and going until the "Madam Marie" line).
This second part of the show is highlighted by Ronnie Spector's guest appearance on three songs from the Ronettes, as well as the one and only Springsteen performance of the Animals' "We Gotta Get Out of This Place."
More upgrades are indeed on the way, so stay tuned.

The Liberator: Oerebro 1998 (FM) FLAC

Liberator+++Too+Much+Of+Everyth
(Swedish ska/reggae from Malmoe, Skane, southern Sweden)
City: Oerebro, Sweden
Venue: Hogskolan,
Date: 28-04-1998
Source: FM
Sound quality: A- / B+
Lineage: Taped from FM >> Audio Cassette >> Songsplit >> EQ-Remastered >> Hiss Removal >> Flac Level 8 Files

Liberator first got together 1993 in Malmo, Sweden. Starting out, they earned a local reputation as a highly energetic live act, with music firmly rooted in the 2-tone tradition, spiced up with some classic, old school ska.
At this time it was mostly covers on the menu (e.g. Madness, Specials, The Beat), but soon original songs were made as well.
During the years that followed Liberator made several tours in most European countries and became known as one of the beacons in "The Third Wave" of ska.

Songs included in this concert:
* Kick The Bucket
* Christina
* Ruder Than You
* Government Spy
* Flee
* Natural Component of Tears
* Lorraine ("The Bad Manners" coversong!)
