vg+ to ex- (almost entirely ex-)
8.5-9.0/10 IMHO as always. (OU too impressed with his work - dave)

I taped the show from the balcony, very close to stage left AND stage right (if you're familiar with the NMB HOB). There are basically 3 options you have when taping at this venue: balcony close to the stage, balcony dead center from the stage (balcony is U-shaped) or the area downstairs in front of the stage ("the pit"). All other areas sort of suck. I decided to go with balcony stage left, as I have produced recordings from that area that sound almost like FM broadcasts. A real sweet spot. Well, it's been a year since the last time that I was at the HOB and certain things have been changed, so this recording was not as good as previous ones were from that area. I have taped from the pit in the past BUT that area is a REAL crap shoot.
Sadly, the pit gets filled quickly with tourists who see basically 1 show a year, if that, do not know how to behave at concerts and blab non-stop to their friends all through the show. When I got there, the pit was already packed so Uncle Jojo said "F-ck this" and opted for the balcony. During the show, I saw a LOT of talking and other bs going on in the pit so I think that my choice was the right one.
There is hardly any talking on this recording. However, the deaf a-hole running the soundboard really boosted the bass & drums over Ted's guitar and vocals !?!?!?!?!? and with my earplugs in, all I could hear was bass and drums. Happily, the recording came out much better than expected when I listened to it on my way home. It's a very good recording IMHO but just not as good as ones before. So what I'm saying in my long-winded way is that it's not my fault and I did the best that I could. Aw-right ? Saw-right !
After about 5 songs, I very quickly crossed from balcony stage left to balcony stage right (about 200 feet in 45 seconds) to see if the acoustics were better on the other side. Sadly, about the same. (See if you can spot when I moved during the show !). I removed a whoo and several loud whistles w/o losing any music. You'll hear a talkative female a-hole during one of the final songs on CD 2 but I moved away from her until her verbal diarrhea was over. Otherwise, there's virtually no talking around me and the people around me were fairly
well-behaved. Ted was on a roll that night and now a few words about good old Uncle Ted and HIS behavior...
I've witnessed the Ted Nugent Experience live since 1977, I believe (I can't remember the exact date ; maybe some Pittsburgh Ted fans can help me out). I first saw Ted at the Civic Arena, Pittsburgh, PA on 6/30/1977. The bill was UFO (?), the Scorpions and Ted as the headliner. I left for the lobby during the Scorps because I thought that they were boring (no offense to Scorp fans). Ted was crazy. I remember him swinging onto the stage via rope & I think that he wore a loincloth. I DO clearly recall him standing atop a bank of amps after a pretty good guitar solo and screaming "Let's see those disco a-holes do that". Hilarious. After that, I was kinda hooked and have had a love/hate attitude towards him ever since. Love the guitar pyrotechnics and hate the absolute bullshit that comes out of his mouth. As he gets older (he said he's 62) he just gets worse. I'll leave it to you guys to pick out the amazing sh-t that he says (wear headphones and turn it up during the rants) but here are a few samples: he's blacker than Obama, he's a soul man, he's a fat young colored girl (or words to that effect), he loves to kill animals, he loves attitude, God bless America, f-ck everybody else, the list goes on and on. He's really repulsive and I don't know if it's an act or if he really believes what he says. He can't sing as well as he used to and sort of
talk/sings several ditties. It was an amazingly repulsive but riveting performance. Judge it for yourselves...
A few final random observations...when the AGC is turned on on the Zoom, you're virtually assured that the recording will be distortion-free. It is but I had to boost the volume by 400% to get it to a reasonable level... Ted's spoken words during the rants are still a little low so turn it up... The total ticket cost was $31 US. $23.50 base + $2.50 facility charge + $5.00 handling. I got my ticket directly from the box office. Had I gone on line thru Live Nation, it would've been $12.00 !!! more or $43.00 total !!!
Jojogunne sez BOYCOTT THOSE LIVE NATION F-CKERS.... This show marked the first time since
9/11 that I was NOT wanded (metal detector) at the door. Seems somebody is finally coming to their senses...The sound is very good like I said above but it could've been better thanks to the SB idiot...Ted's rants are 8:52, the length of a long song or 2 short ones. Ted ripped off the audience because he likes to hear himself talk. Thanks for one or two less songs, you asshole...If I have the date wrong concerning the 1st time I saw Ted, PLEASE correct me. Ted and the Scorpions were DEFINITELY on the bill. Unsure about UFO...If you hate Ted's attitude, DON'T FLAME ME. I am NOT Ted Nugent, only a sort of reporter. Flame the man himself...You can omit the rants and Track 20 if you wish.
You won't lose any music. Well, that's about all that I have so let's get this show on
the road...

I have a request

happiness_feeling-print-gastronomy

Share freely but...

Please do not post the same links that I use on other sites, forums, etc.

Here's why:
I have excluded my site from search engines but other sites do not. So when you post my links on a site that is searchable then a group or record company can have the links deleted very easily.
I had a request to repost a Zep show from '73 since all the links were dead. I did a quick google and found that the exact links that I use were posted on several sites in the US, a couple in South America and even one in Russia. I decided to check another deleted post. Guess what? Same thing.

If you want to share the boot then please just upload the boot on a mirror and share THOSE links.
Your doing so will allow the posts that I make last much longer plus I really do not have a whole lot of time to do reups.

I know this is the internet. I do not know you and have no control whatsoever after I post something here but if you wish to see this blog continue to grow then I need your help on this!

thx.

-dave

PS I suppose that each of you can check the blog each and every morning and download what you want instantly and not worry about it but we have new visitors every day so let's be nice to them.

Your wait is over

I posted a question about an audio rip of an obsolete video. The question had considerable comment action (which I love).

I have decided NOT to post it...

...on this blog...

OU Here it is the brother recording of my previous master. Again, recorded from France Musique who did a remarkable job that year. I was lucky enouth to be in France to record this show and in Italy when RAI broadcasted live the Umbria Jazz
performance of the same band. I think I have already seeded that one some time ago. Again, this is widely circulated among collectors but this comes from my master which I have traded in the past. Again, great music, great musicians.
Enjoy!

2. HEY YOU (5:09m)
3. RUN LIKE HELL (9:16m)
4. audience (7:29m)
Total time = 159:04m

This came as 3 big SHN files, with the encores repeated, so i merged & cut the repeated portions carefully and tracked it properly. Only minor fades at the end of CD1, beginning & end of CD2 and beginning of CD3.
This sounds like a master clone and unprocessed... This actually seems to be a complete clone, since it includes much more audience portions than 'Final Night In Foxboro'. Also, my copy of 'Final Night' has static over some songs, and this copy is spotless. Sound is different, i wouldnt say this one or the other one is better, surely the 'Final Night' release was EQed or something. I consider this to be an upgrade because it is complete and free of static, so if you have the same copy of 'Final Night' like me get this. Thanks to Breathe from whom i got this at the PRS hub. -gbc

Editing and Mastering by The Wizard
Both the Audience and the Soundboard are available from The Owen Brothers Vault.

OU: This was a nice SBD recording with only minor issues. Most tunings were cut. These were patched from the AUD source where available. A light Continuous Noise filter was used to minimize tape hiss. The sound was a bit flat so equalization was used to bring up the top and bottom ends a bit. Other specific issues corrected: Start of Ramble on Rose on the SBD had a horrible mix and was replaced by AUD. Rose was also recorded hot with clipping and this was corrected. The cut in Weather Report Suite was patched with an alternate SBD.
The AUD Splice in US Blues was redone. All AUD patches were matched up as well as possible through EQ, Noise reduction and gain adjustments. Misc. loud handclaps, pops and other anomalies were corrected.
All editing done with Diamond Cut DC6 software.

OU Notes: One of the marathon shows of the 75 tour and one of the longest shows and longest versions of Dazed And Confused they ever played. The complete show is presented here from the best possible sources and transfers available to date(July 2008). Both sets of reels for each source can be considered the defacto masters since the originals for both sources are MIA or no longer exist. Both sets of reels used here are Bill's safety copies he dubbed from the actual masters themselves and have sat unplayed for at least 20+ years and in the case of Source 1(Stan G.) almost 30 years to the day until these transfers were done.

Credits:
Stan Gutoski for taping source 1.
Mike Tate and Mark Gorelick for taping source 2.
The members of JEMS for all the assistance they provided from materials to information used here.
Bill Bratton for providing the reels used here for both sources and for all his input on the project.
Gunther aka gthecock for his excellent artwork and covers.
Hugh Jones for permission to use his story and for providing scans to the Proximity issue used here.
Led Zeppelin for the obvious reasons.

OU I got this one in a trade so the lineage is cd-r>EAC>TLH>md5 & ftp>TLH torrent>you. Quality is very nice a 9 outta 10. However there are some odd bits of editing but this is the way I got so you can edit this post download..So I have been searching for which night Mr. Joe Young ..a pic of the ticket stub showed you got to attend all three days and the various google searches meant I would have to created an Excel spreadsheet to figure out nights and official and not offical released tunes and I do enough of that at work...The removed track is "I Can't Quit You Baby" with Otis Rush so if anyone out there knows if this IS the official tune the torrent stays. If this is not the official one then I will re do the torrent with that track included so just lemme know.
Also noticed that the University of Michigan filmed a good chunk of these shows and have'em in the Archives. So anyone have a library card????

Master: 1 Sennheiser 805 shotgun microphone > Uher 4000 1/2 track R2R Recorder @ 7 1/2 ips on 5" 3M Scotch tapes (mono)
My Copy: 1/2 track 5" Masters > TEAC AN-180 (Dolby B Noise Reduction) > Revox B-77 > Sony DTC-690
Transfer: Sony DTC-690 > Audigy 4 Pro (via Toslink) > Audacity (editing and conversion to 44.1 KHz) > CD Wav > Flac (Level 8)

OU: A first generation Reel copy of a classic TMOQ recording. Like all of these tapes there are many dropouts,a continual thumping noise and volume fluctuations. These defects originate with the master 5" reels, my first generation 7" reels and finally my DAT transfer. Many of these noises have been removed with Audacity wave editor.
Some sound disturbances still remain (but not nearly as many). While I was editing much of the loudest clapping after each song was removed one clap at a time. No equalization or noise reduction (except the Dolby B on my reel). Not sure about 3 of the song titles (?).

Dire Straits: San Antonio 1985 (Soundboard) FLAC

1985.08.16-SanAntonio-front
SECRETS IN THE CLOSET

DISC ONE:
1. Ride across the river
2. Expresso love
3. One world
4. Romeo and Juliet
5. Private investigations
6. Sultans of swing
7. Why worry
8. Walk of life

DISC TWO:
1. Two young lovers
2. Money for nothing
3. Wild west end
4. Intro Tunnel of love
5. Tunnel of love
6. Brothers in arms
7. Solid rock
8. Going home (Local Hero)

Majestic Theatre, San Antonio, USA, 16th August 1985.

Additional comments: Amazing soundboard recording! Taken from the original bootleg "Secrets in the closet". When I bought this bootleg, I was almost sure that it would be just another copy of the famous Houston show from 17th August 1985. But to my big surprise, it sounded a bit different and I could not directly figure out from which recording date this recording was. The back cover of the CD said it was recorded in San Antonio, 16th August 1985. But since I never heard that recording before, I just could not believe it. And then, at the beginning of "Walk of life", it is Mark Knopfler himself who is revealing the mystery: "This is where San Antonio is doing the walk, alright." And, at the end of "Brothers in arms" Mark says: "Thank you San Antonio, thank you!". Amazing! This is the real San Antonio recording in contrary to all other bootlegs that are called "San Antonio" and are actually featuring the Houston recording.Great sound, great versions and complete show!

Def Leppard: Buffalo 1988 (VG Aud) FLAC

def_leppard_hysteria_1988_concert_shirt_a2218_3
Memorial Auditorium
Buffalo, NY
February 3, 1988

OU: I went to this show on the Hysteria tour with my wife and her sister. A few days later we went to someone's house that she knew and he had a tape of it that he copied from the taper. I asked for a copy and he complied, but we didn't have time to stay there for very long, and all I got was the first side of the tape. Ever since then I've been looking for the rest of the show.
Fast forward 20+ years and lo and behold I came across it while doing my monthly internet search for more Buffalo area shows. But the funny thing is I found an alternate taper. This complete tape makes up the bulk of this post.
The taper moved around a lot or was otherwise blocked by other audience members, so the sound shifted around a lot between channels. I believe I managed to fix the majority of that problem. I didn't do any NR or hiss reduction on this, just some simple EQ. The original recorder had auto level control, so conmpression is evident, but not too annoying. The intro for the show is missing, but the first song is all there. This, however, leads me to do this:
I have also included the one side of tape that I got in 88, made by what I consider to be taper 1 (since his tape was circulating shortly after the show).

Taper 2 lineage and setlist:
Taped By Bobby Plant
Panasonic Walkman and Aiwa Mic
Lineage: Master > CDR > EAC > Flac > Adobe Audition 3.0 (speed correction, channel balancing, EQ, track splits) > TLH (SBE fix, flac 8)

01 Stagefright
02 Rock! Rock! Til You Drop
03 Women
04 Too Late For Love
05 Hysteria
06 Steve Clark solo
07 Gods Of War
08 Die Hard The Hunter
09 Bringin' On The Heartbreak
10 Foolin'
11 Animal
12 Pour Some Sugar On Me
13 Phil Collen solo
14 Let It Go
15 Rock Of Ages
16 Love And Affection
17 Photograph

Unknown taper 1 lineage and setlist:
cass (2) > Adobe Audition 1.5 (speed correction, EQ, limiting, track splitting) > TLH (SBE fix, flac 8)

01 Dirty Harry Intro
02 Stagefright
03 Rock! Rock! Til You Drop
04 Women
05 Too Late For Love
06 Hysteria
07 Steve Clark solo
08 Gods Of War
09 Die Hard The Hunter

For reasons unknown to me this show is a bit shorter than some other shows on this tour, notably the Denver show used to make the In The Round In Your Face home video (actually the released version of that show has nearly the same setlist as this. The difference is that at this show they played Love And Affection which was not played in Denver - in fact Joe says that Buffalo is the first time they played it in the US - and the guitar solos are cut from the video also. The Stagefright bootleg of the same show, however, shows that [I]Don't Shoot Shotgun, Armageddon It and Travellin' Band were also played on that tour, notably absent from Buffalo).

OU NOTES: There wasn’t a sudden sea change from prog to punk as many would like to believe happened. We were still listening to our rock gods until (in some cases) many years after. Although this would be the only time I saw Pink Floyd, I didn’t give up on their studio recordings until after the release of The Wall film and Roger Waters’ resignation.
It had been clear for a while that Waters really wanted to make a film, and this was probably as a result of the film soundtrack work the group had been offered over the years since Syd Barrett had left, most notably with Barbet Schroeder (“More”) and Franco Zefferelli (“Zabriskie Point”).
Stafford New Bingley Hall is a cowshed, though, no matter how you light it and regardless of how many seats you install, which means that the recording here is distinctly lacking in any sonic quality. It is what it is, and struggles to rise above the atrocious acoustics of the venue. This was recorded about two thirds of the way back, and slightly to the left of the sound desk. This particular night, he Giant Pig got its snout caught on the Aerial of the sound-desk to much laughter...
Recommended Track: Pigs (Three Different Ones) – a withering song attacking the hypocrisy of politicians, and with Mr Waters’ trademark scream. It really doesn’t get much better than this. IMHO of course…

Sound quality: 6? 7? take your pick...

OU: My girlfriend Barbette worked at this club in the san Fernando valley for a while. If I remember right the master deck was a Nakamichi Dragon. The master cassette (or a safety copy most likely) was played back on my Akaii GX570 D2 > Revox B77 @ 7 1/2 ips on Maxell UD-35 90 tape.
Transfer was on a Pioneer R-R > Audigy 4 Pro @ 24/44.1 > Audacity > CD Wav > Flac (Level 8) The master was paused during long breaks between songs and I cleaned that up with Audacity.
This is a tape I have always been afraid would end up with the dreaded bootlegers.
Kept it out of circulation (with a few exceptions) for all of these years. It is no good keeping it hidden forever so here you are. The artwork fell together very nice and fits this recording well.
Enjoy

FROM A COPY OF THE MASTER 5" REELS
SOURCE: Sennheiser 805 shotgun microphone > Uher 4000 7 1-2 ips 1/4" x 5" Reel - to - Reel > REVOX B77 w/Dolby (me) > SONY DTC 690 @ 16/32
RESTORATION AND TRANSFER BY MIKE MARTIN: SONY DTC-690 > AUDIGY 4 (via Toslink) > AUDACITY (conversion to 16/44.1 and editing of Dropouts) > CD Wav > Flac (Level 8)

Dropouts needed to be addressed. The recording equipment had transport issues and there would be a series of dropouts when each new reel was stared. For the first few minutes of each tape there are gaps about every second (think 5 " reel turning once at 7 1/2 ips).
chunk chunk chunk chunk chunk chunk.
There were also dropouts throughout the tape but not as many as the beginning of each reel. Similar issues affect many recordings from this source. These tapes have been relegated to storage boxes all these years because of the quality issues. The wave files have been reviewed with headphones to find the dropout gaps which were then spliced together.
Audacity is a nice wave editor and between delete and repair I removed the majority of the defects. At this time the loudest claps between the songs were removed one clap at a time. Some of the bumps and bruises of this tape can still be heard if you listen hard enough. There were hundreds.
Even knowing this stuff you would likely agree that this tape sounds great for it's time.
This concert really shows how good the KINKS were back then. Loved the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium!
Enjoy

OU: It was a last minute decision to go and see this show. My friend (Bill) and I went to the ticket booth just prior to the show and were sold 2 GREAT tickets, nice and close and near the center. No hassles at all in sneaking the equipment into the venue. The show was already in progress by the time we got situated and so this disc is missing “Well May The World Go”.
I remember our seats being on the outside of our row and having quite a few people brushing past me to get to their seats causing me to be moving the microphone’s hiding under my jacket.
NERO wave editor was used for removing most of these sections and the loudest clapping during the audience applause sections. Once these distracting noises were removed this tape became much easy to listen too. The final editing was to trim the length down so that this 82-minute show would fit on one disc.
To do this the applause sections were shortened a little more than I would have liked
and a section where Pete is tuning his guitar was also removed allowing this to fit on a single CDR.
The sound quality is Very Good to Excellent - with some hiss in the quieter sections (no dolby) and a bunch of shuffeling noises.

The Under Table Tale...
This recording has another sad story about trying to get the equipment into the club.
Almost caught at the door, the first attempt to sneak the equipment in was a failure.
I told them the bag contained my car stereo and I would just take it back to the car.
Once in my car I had to devise some trick.
So returning to the club with the recorder stuffed in my pants and my real car stereo
in the bag I told the doorman (who was the manager) that I had decided to check it in anyhow.
He didn’t buy it and watched me like a hawk for the entire first show.
For nearly an hour and a half that recorder was cutting off the blood flow to my legs.
Near the end of the first show the manager finally gave up watching me and that gave me a chance to set up the recording equipment in secret but by this time the first show was almost over.
During the break the manager returned and sat a few feet away from me again. So to record this show we were forced to hold the microphones UNDER the table.
The tape had some wild volume fluctuations in the first couple of songs as I was trying to set the levels without really looking under the table.
Not being able to monitor the recording levels during the show resulted in an over-recorded tape (+3dB) which produces a distorted sound that gets better and worse during the tape.
Some liberal use of the NERO wave editor has reduced the volume fluctuations and many of the noises caused by bumping the microphones during the quieter parts.
The first 2 songs are rough going in and out of stereo but overall this is.......
Very Listenable but not the High Quality Recording I had expected to come home with.
