Notes: JEMS master recording. This is a good to very good sounding recording. This is the first time Iggy had been back in Detroit live since his days in The Stoogies. The audience is all raucous and rowdy this night in anticipation of Iggy's stage antics. This was the first of a two night stand Iggy played at the Masonic Temple with the 2nd night being on the 27th and captures him touring in support of his solo debut The Idiot. The show features a cross section of Stoogies classics along with solo material.

The setlists for these early 1977 concerts were among the most varied of Lou's career. Although the shows were ostensibly to promote "Rock And Roll Heart", they didn't usually feature many songs from that LP. In reality, Lou was trying out the ideas and songs which would eventually form "Street Hassle". Of the songs on this (incomplete?) recording from Groningen, "Better Get Up And Dance" and "Affirmative Action (PO #99)" would subsequently be abandoned completely. "Such A Pretty Face" would eventually mutate into "Wait": it would later appear on the "Street Hassle" LP along with "Shooting Star", "Real Good Time Together" and "Gimmie Some Good Times". Lou would never be so unpredictable again!
I dont know where the good folks at Midnight Beat sourced the material for their 1997 "Banging On My Drums" bootleg CD set, but they did a great job. I was more than happy to pay out good money to hear these gems......

Metal legend Ronnie James Dio dead at 67

100516-dio-hmed-206p_hmedium
Singer who replaced Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath had stomach cancer
By Wayne Parry
The Associated Press
updated 4:48 p.m. CT, Sun., May 16, 2010
LOS ANGELES - Ronnie James Dio, whose soaring vocals, poetic lyrics and mythic tales of a never-ending struggle between good and evil broke new ground in heavy metal, died Sunday, according to a statement from his wife and manager. He was 67.
Dio revealed last summer that he was suffering from stomach cancer shortly after wrapping up a tour in Atlantic City, N.J., with the latest incarnation of Black Sabbath, under the name Heaven And Hell.
"Today my heart is broken," Wendy Dio wrote on the singer's site, adding he died at 7:45 a.m. "Many, many friends and family were able to say their private goodbyes before he peacefully passed away.
"Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all," Wendy Dio continued. "We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us ... Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever."
The statement was confirmed by Los Angeles publicist Maureen O'Connor. Dio was being treated at a Houston hospital, according to his site.
Though Dio had recently undergone his seventh chemotherapy treatment, he was hopeful to perform again. Earlier this month, Heaven And Hell canceled its summer tour, but Dio did not view being sidelined as a permanent thing.
"Wendy, my doctors and I have worked so hard to make it happen for all of you, the ones we care so much about, that this setback could be devastating, but we will not let it be," he said in a statement. "With your continued love and support, we ... will carry on and thrive. There will be other tours, more music, more life and much more magic."
Dio rose to fame in 1975 as the first lead singer of Rainbow, the heavy metal band put together by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, who had just quit Deep Purple.
Dio then replaced legendary vocalist Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath in 1980 with the critically acclaimed album "Heaven And Hell," considered by many critics to be one of the finest heavy metal albums of all time. His on-again, off-again tenure with Black Sabbath touched off an intense debate among fans as to which singer was the true essence of the band — a discussion that lasted until his death.
He also enjoyed a successful solo career with his self-titled band, Dio, in between his three stints with Black Sabbath (1980-82; 1992; and 2007-2009, when the band toured as Heaven And Hell, to differentiate it from Osbourne-led versions of Sabbath).
Many of his most memorable songs revolved around the struggle between good and evil, including his signature tune "Heaven And Hell." He also drew heavily on medieval imagery in songs like "Neon Knights," "Killing The Dragon" and "Stargazer."
"He possessed one of the greatest voices in all of heavy metal, and had a heart to match it," said Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French, whose band toured with Dio since 1983, and was to do so again this summer at European rock festivals. "He was the nicest, classiest person you would ever want to meet."
Dio organized an all-star charity collaboration in 1986 called "Hear N' Aid" to raise money for famine relief in Africa, styled on the successful "We Are The World" campaign of a few years earlier.
His solo hits included "Rainbow In The Dark," "The Last In Line" and "Holy Diver."

22 - Sing-Along Song
23 - Abyss
24 - To Hell With The Devil
25 - Closing Prayer
Total time: 90:29 mins.

OU Notes: Well what can I say... The show was a blast! The guys are pushing 50 and are still going strong! First performance in The Netherlands in 17 years. All original members, including Tim Gaines on bass. Attendance: 1.000 (sold out). Before kicking into Sing-Along Song the band comes back onstage, bringing with them some 15 giant yellow balloons which they throw into the crowd. During the song Tim pops most of them with the tip of his bass guitar and Michael accidentally drops his mic on a speaker causing some horrible feedback. About the recording: probably my best effort in over 10 years of live concert taping... Flawless from start to finish. I love the way the audience is captured on this one, no individual screamers, clappers etc. But you be the judge.
Enjoy!

OU Notes: 15 years after their last appearance in Germany the band takes the stage in the small town of Ennepetal as the closing act of the Legends Of Rock festival. Stryper guitarist Oz Fox is added to the line-up. After the show I noticed my recorder had shut down for some reason. Luckily I was able to retrieve the corrupted wave file and found out most songs played that night were recorded. It cuts out 3 minutes into the last song of the main set (Black Snake), so only the encore is missing (Never Be The Same & All Stand Together). Covers are included.

Comments from the original torrent (March 2007):
Had some fun with this one, a good raw source that I felt needed some touch-ups. I'd certainly recommend it for all, but it might be best for diehard 13 fans only, as the changes are subtle, more what a general mastering job should be.
As I said, raw, and I've been meaning to play around with one like this, adding a bit of spatial-simulator reverb to try to recreate some ambience of the venue. Not far off from blending with an AUD, just not as obvious. Mostly it gives the rawness a smoother edge and helps to warm up some of the brittle crunch (and eliminate the need for de-noising). Then the spectrum was tightened up as the highs were too bright, the lows were undefined and the mid's (especially Page) needed a slight boost.
I like it, I like it a lot.
Artwork, EAC log, MD5 Checksums and Fingerprints included.

Comments (added July 2008):
This was originally posted by Hottiemagnet in March 2007 (I think it was to DIME, though I can't find it in the archives at the moment); I personally found this to be a more enjoyable listen than the original "Snow Jobs" boot. Changes as outlined above give a warmer feel to the recording, similar to the post-production of a commercial release. Since even the original boot does not appear to be on the tracker right now, I thought this would be worth a spin (perhaps for the first time on DIME).
Many thanks to thir13en and Hottiemagnet for bringing this to the masses the first time around.

Queensrÿche: Milwaukee 2010 (VG++ Aud) FLAC

Front042710
"Queensrÿche Cabaret Milwaukee - April 27, 2010"
Northern Lights Theater
Milwaukee, WI
April 27, 2010
Recorded by: Hurricane62

Audio Technica CMC-2 Cardioid mics -> Sound Professionals SPSB-11 mini-battery module with switchable bass rolloff (set at 16 Hz - No Rolloff) ->Zoom H4 (.wav file 44.1 kHz 16-bit) -> WavePad (track splitting & amplification) .wav PCM format (44.1 kHz, 16-bit) -> FLAC Frontend (level 8) -> ABC 3.1 -> DIME

Recorded from very near the front of the theater. The Northern Lights Theater has excellent acoustics. Along with the CMC-2 cardiod mics has produced a very clean audience recording with minimal ambient crowd noise.
The "Queensrÿche Cabaret" is a SHOW, not a CONCERT. As you listen, keep in mind that there were numerous cabaret performers on stage including a juggler, go-go dancers, aerialists, a burlesque dancer, a ballet dancer, and even a drag queen. When you hear Geoff speaking to the audience, it is not really Geoff speaking to the audience, but rather the character that Geoff is playing is speaking to the audience - it is not a dialogue, but rather a scripted narration.
That being said, the set list from this show was phenomenal. Personally I had not heard a number of the tracks in a live performance before this show. Others, such as "Roads To Madness" I had not heard live in many, many years. The band was tight and the performance was spot-on. Michael Wilton was outstanding on the guitar and it was great to hear a Scott Rockenfield drum solo. Eddie Jackson was his usual steady-Eddie on the bass and backing vocals. Newcomer Parker Lundgren continues to develop into a strong second guitar - it is obvious that he is comfortable with this role and with the material. Geoff showed that he still has the pipes and could probably be successful with a career in acting as well.
Artwork is included. There was an intro and an outro using Louis Armstrong performing "Life Is A Cabaret" that are not included to comply with DIME's guidelines. Likewise, there was an interlude featuring Joan Jett's "Do You Wanna Touch Me" (with dancers performing out in the audience) that has been omitted as well.

** ON STAGE AUDIENCE MASTER, MWM 0166 ** >> THE FINAL GERMAN "ACCEPT" CONCERT w/ UDO DIRKSCHNEIDER, THE TRUE GERMAN SONGWRITER LEGEND - AWESOME SOUNDING (TAUBMUSIK) ! SIMPLY ANOTHER MUST !
this one here is for our dear friend "Rock_forever", according to deafmusic -> the only person allowed to remaster this one...

Solingen is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located on the northern edge of the region called Bergisches Land, south of the Ruhr area, and with a 2005 population of 162,685 is the second largest city in the Bergisches Land. It is a member of the regional authority of the Rhineland.
Solingen is called the "City of Blades", since it has long been renowned for the manufacturing of fine swords, knives, scissors and razors made by famous firms such as DOVO Solingen, Wüsthof, J. A. Henckels, Boker, and numerous other manufacturers. Wilkinson is also based here.
In Medieval times, the swordsmiths of Solingen coined the town's image, which is preserved to this date. Some 90% of German knives are produced in Solingen.

please help me with the setlist, as
"deafmusic" & me are both not into Accept,
they are like Bon Jovi to me...Mädchenmusique...
as far as i know NONE of this recording was ever used commercially.

musicians performing this gig here are in the internet...somewhere
this upload here comes also directly from the "Men With Microphones" archives.
DE FACTO THIS IS FROM - deafmusic - ANOTHER PRICELESS "TAUBMUSIC" MASTERPIECE...

lineage: recorded by deafmusic, audience to DAT
recording/transfer 1:
RAW AUDIENCE RECORDING with two AKG C1000 microphones on lighting bridge > Behringer Microphone PreAmp > Tascam DA30 (Wat is'n Tascam ? Kennsch nisch !) > Sony DT-120 @ 48 kHz > Fostex D-5 > Aldi Medion PC > Creative Wave Studio (normalze, edits, no fades, indices) > CDRs

transfer 2:
CDRs > Motherboard with AMD Multicore Processor, Serial ATA Interface > Exact Audio Copy > Harddisc Western Digital with Thermaltake HD Cooler (EVER had a HardDisc burnout ??) > Traders Little Helper (SB aligned/level 6) > FLAC

what "deafmusic" says about this show: occasional slight dropouts on the master tape (they all warned me about Sony DAT tapes, but of course i knew better...). there was absolutely NO taping or filming allowed that night! as this is my first upload on my own, i'm quite interested how it works...please be patient. thanks to my family, especially to my dad, and to all our friends... maybe TAUBMUSIK will tell us the priceless story of Udo's wife filming the show...haha... pythonmonty, son of a proud Leo

Liner Notes: Genesis first visited Berkeley California on January 22, 1975 to perform 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway'. The band returns now on April 29, 1976 for their second visit to this part of the Bay area to again present old material but also to play songs from the new album 'The Trick of the Tail'. This is their first show in four days, since a performance in Kansas City, and the first of 3 they will give on the West coast. During the previous visit to Berkeley, Peter Gabriel was at the microphone and Phil Collins played drums. During this visit, Phil is now singing vocals and Bill Bruford is leading the percussion. After the first song “Dance on a Volcano”, Phil informs the audience that they are going to play a collection from the prior tour which they have entitled “Lamb Stew”. This consists of “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway”, “Fly on a Windshield” and “Carpet Crawlers”. Phil's renditions are clearly different than Gabriel's but still well received by the audience.
Mr. Collins also continues Peter's tradition of telling introductory stories before many of the songs. Though using less fantasy and magical thinking than his predecessor, Phil conveys humorous tales, including some local flavor, which the audience seems to enjoy. Older material such as “Supper's Ready” and “The Cinema Show” take on a new sound as Bill Bruford works his magic at the drum set and interjects a series of new percussion instruments into the mix. Phil's voice, though not as powerful as Peter's, has an angelic quality at this point in his career which blends well with many of the songs presented during this show. The show closes with a medley of both old and new material: “Los Endos”, “It” and a shortened version of “Watcher of the Skies”.

Notes from the Re-Master: This show was taken from multiple sources, all beginning with an audience recording. As a good quality audience recording, this show has the benefit of providing the acoustics of the BerkeleyTheater to the listener. The majority of the show is from a second generation tape source. General tape hiss and show noise were identified and removed. Tonality was generally good and therefore unaltered. Very few clicks, pops or dropouts were found. Viable music frequencies existed up to 12,000 Hz. Other available CD versions of this show have a great deal of hiss and viable music frequencies only up to 7,500 Hz. These other versions also have cut the beginning of the song Los Endos due to tape stretch distorting the sound. During remastering we have restored this segment. A source with the complete dialog between songs could not be found so some transitions are a bit awkward but more natural than other CD versions available.

OU: Another pretty good audience recording, probably rating a "B" or slightly better. I'm presenting the music exactly as it came to me on CD-r a couple of years
ago.
Jack Skelly's Gentle Giant Tour History site: http://members.aol.com/JAskelly/GGtourhistory.html
has a short commentary on this gig, one of a series on which Gentle Giant and Renaissance shared the bill. For some shows, Giant played first, but here Jack ays "Renaissance opened for Giant.
During the show, Derek commented on the poor reception the band received at its previous San Diego appearance on July 18, 1976. An existing tape of this gig shows that, as an encore, they played The Advent of Panurge by itself, instead of playing the entire Excerpts from Octopus, as was usually done on this tour. The show was late starting, which was probably the reason. For this same reason, John (Weathers) also shortened his humorous introduction to Funny Ways."
On this tour, Giant played several songs which hadn't yet made it on to vinyl - for the most part, the arrangements that proved most successful on stage were the ones that were used when the band finally tackled them in the studio, and these are the arrangements you'll hear on these recordings. The exception is "Winning", which differs significantly from the studio version, and which was obviously the subject of further revision prior to the sessions for the Missing Piece album. For Memories Of Old Days, Kerry Minnear here borrows the intro from Giant, something which was later dropped in favour of a faithful reproduction of the studio version.
This appears to be another GG gig that hasn't been shared here before, so enjoy!
Alan.

Leon Russell and Friends: Los Angeles 1971 (FM) FLAC

l_session
Leon Russell & Friends 1971.xx.xx - The Legendary NET Special (PBS) live in Los Angeles
Time: (46:04)
Venue: Vine Street Theatre,It was recorded at PBS Actually KCET (Channel 28) studios,Los Angeles.
Location: Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA
Source: SBD>KPPC FM simoulcast
Sound: 8/10 Very Good Sound Quality
Lineage: Bush Records Version > Sound Forge 6.0 > Manual click and crackle sweep > Normalization > Default Vinyl auto click and crackle sweep > Normalization > Sony (Sonic Foundry) Vinyl Restoration > 4x Spectrum analysis leading to > 60hz, 108hz, and 129hz notch filtering >"Dead Space" sampling leading to > Sony (Sonic Foundry) Noise Reduction 12db mode2 default setting > track splitup with metadata stripped > Flac Frontend level 6, sectors aligned and verified, replaygain used.

OU: This superb show has unfortunately never been released. The source is supposedly an FM simulcast, but I don't believe it as the sound quality is a bit better than FM. This is from one of the many early bootleg vinyl pressings that were put out at the time, but is not from the Zerocks Records release that is the most common. The sound quality on that release was not as good as the Bush Records vinyl, so the Bush Records vinyl was used instead. A lot of restoration work went into this project.

The track listing on all releases is wrong, this is the correct setlist:
01 Will the Circle Be Unbroken (02:31)
02 Caravan (02:59) (the Van Morrison Caravan, that is)
03 It Takes A Lot To Laugh,It Takes A Train To Cry (05:19)
04 Delta Lady (04:00)
05 A Song For you (04:16)
06 Furry's Blues (02:30)
07 Amos Burke (02:51)
08 Honky Tonk Woman (03:26)
09 Sweet Emily (03:23)
10 Prince Of Peace (03:32)
11 Girl Of The North Country (02:41)
12 Big Boss Man 03:11)
13 Georgia Queen (03:04)(A.K.A. Crystal Closet Queen)
14 So Strange (02:21)

Another Note: The outro at the end of So Strange was taken from the Zerocks Records release,it doesn't appear on the Bush version. The Furry who sings Furry's Blues is the same Furry who Joni Mitchell wrote a song about (Furry Sings The Blues). As the story goes, the old man gave his permission at first, then sued her when the song became more popular.
Originally aired in 1971 on PBS,actually KCET,in Los Angeles at the Vine Street Theater on Hollywood and Vine,a theater with a little studio in the back part of the building, which is not there anymore. They actually shot 6 hours but only broadcast 1 hour, unscripted and unrehearsed.
It was the first national "stereo" rock-and-roll TV broadcast that's why Leon agreed to do it.

From Wikipedia: KPPC-FM was the first station in Los Angeles to broadcast a stereo simulcast with a television station. (A one hour program with 'Leon Russell and Friends' in collaboration with PBS station KCET),and the first to broadcast with Sansui quadraphonic sound. It was also the first FM station in Los Angeles to use two transmitters simultaneously to produce sufficient power.

The Players are:
Leon Russell,
Don Nix,
Chuck Blackwell,
Joey Cooper,
Don Preston,
Carl Radle,
Kathi McDonald,
Claudia Linnear,
John Gallie,
Jim Horn,
Walter "Furry" Lewis,
and,of course,Sweet Emily.

Diamond Head: Glasgow 1984 (FM) FLAC

48b81a988e31f
OU: A Diamond Head concert on 7th of February 1984, some months before splitting but after being dropped by MCA, their record label. Some years later they reformed and are currently still active.
Looking at the show setlist the band was concentrating efforts on the album Canterbury, an excellent work that generally isn't much appreciated.

Lineage: FM > Akai MCR > Philips CDR > HD (flac 8)
There are some minor atmospheric distortions audible during quieter parts of the recording, there is also a one-second radio dropout at 3:37 of Butty's blues. The DJ mentions that this recording was made in June 1968 which definitely is not correct.
Overall sound quality: B+ > A-

"Hound Dog" Taylor: Australian Studios 1975 (FLAC

Theodore Roosevelt "Hound Dog" Taylor (April 12, 1915 - December 17, 1975) was an American blues guitarist and singer.
laxi005
ABC Studios 1975-03-14 Australia
uploaded by general eclectic

Recorded whilst on tour in Australia, in the studios of the Australian Broadcasting Commission, Australia's gov't owned broadcaster.
OU: I was 16 and remember seeing posters for his shows around at the time. It's just a pity i hadn't developed my love of the blues by then.
If any of this was broadcast it could only have been on 2JJ, the ABC's youth radio station (AM band!) in Sydney which evolved into 2JJJFM which was later expanded into TripleJ FM the national youth radio network. (still part of the ABC, some say the best part, but not a patch on what it was like way back in the mid-70s)
no other info at this point in time...still searching 4 more, updates will be posted if/as they come in

Invasion Unlimited (IU-9532-1)

“This is the second release by Invasion Unlimited, a label dedicated to releasing the Rolling Stones studio outtakes in the best possible sound quality. The sound on this one is remarkably consistent and the material has been well-chosen. It's better than the track counterparts on most other boots, especially Yellow Dog's Black Box. If you're a Rolling Stones fan you won't want to pass up any of Invasion Unlimited's releases; they were produced in extremely short runs, pressed on silver CDs and went out of print very quickly. Today, they're as rare as hen's teeth and very expensive if you can find an authentic copy for sale.”

“My favorite of the Invasion Unlimited series of Rolling Stones outtakes & demo tapes, this one covers mid-1965 to early 1967 and has some real gems. The overall sound quality is great too. The backing track to Yesterday's Paper is amazing to hear, it makes me want to dig up the released version just to do a reality check. If you're a Rolling Stones fan, you'll want this one. It's probably the most enjoyable and satisfying Brian Jones era Stones bootleg I've heard.”
