OU NOTES: Wow, the opening night of the 30th Anniversary Tour, and the "Fellowship of the M1" was there in full force. I guess you could call this the "Return of the Fellowship"!
I ran my hyper-cardioid capsules because we were in the 2nd tier section (literally) few feet from the soundboard.
The first 60 seconds or so is a patch from an alternate source because I ran just a bit late getting set up.
The mix sounded awesome from where we were sitting, and the recording faithfully represents the beautiful mix at the show.
Overall, the highs were crisp, mids are punchy and Geddy really comes through nicely. One detraction is that the 1st set's balance is slightly shifted to the right channel.
Also, there is that one certain guy who whistles a lot during the show; however, he's pretty back in the mix. Although, he's a bit annoying.
Mastering notes include: bass cut, mid bass and high end boosts, channel balancing and some basic cleanup.
Few amplitude adjustments were made and the entire show was normalized fully to 0dB.
Lastly, I decided to retain the long "Darn That Dragon" intro to Set II along with the post show music for nostalgic sake.

It wasn't as bad as it could've been...

psd-delete-icon
...not that I'm thrilled either.

I compared before and after results with my 4 rapidshare accounts and discovered that I lost a total of 71GB of uploads. Many of those deleted files were useless to us anyway as most bad files were linked through link-protector. Link-protector only "protects" for so long and then THEIR links go bad.

As Ecclesiates shares, "Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit." (4:6)

I'm good. More to come very soon!

Dave

PS I would be curious if other serious uploaders kept track of their before and after.

Very very good show. The digital soundboard recording makes it super nice. Excellent action in Jack Straw opener - they rock HARD, followed by a sweet Half-Step. The Let it Grow is decent (there are what seem to be a few Jerry-flubs) but then what follows with Bruce leading the way is so incredibly pretty; beautiful actually. Such an inspired jam out of Let it Grow, then following into a nice Box set closer. Second set starts out strong, with a SWEET Eyes opener. Bruce is again dominant throughout the tune and the boys have a very nice segue into Samson - without pause. The Dark Star is a wonderful second set highlight, long and jammed. Definitely worth the DL.

Long Beach Californication [Empress Valley Supreme Disc EVSD 523-525, 3CD]
Live at the Civic Arena, Long Beach, CA, March 11, 1975. Very good soundboard.

This show has been circulating as a very good audience recording for a while, thanks to the efforts by the legendary Mike Millard (click here). Now Empress Valley has unveiled a soundboard recording of the show.

This is what the Underground Uprising Led Zeppelin website (www.uuweb.led-zeppelin.us) noted:

“While an excellent audience recording may better capture how the band overall was actually heard in the venue, a soundboard recording better captures how the band members did perform (and enjoy or struggle) on stage. The rule also applies to this release. For instance, it more clearly and vividly captures how Bonzo played his drum kits and yelled on stage.

“Although the tape is slightly distorted at the beginning, there is no noticeable hiss noise in the new soundboard, except that there is a very noticeable digital error at the end of Moby Dick. Accordingly, it could overall be deemed as one of the best and most well-balanced soundboard recordings from the band’s ‘75 shows. (Incidentally, in this title, EV elected to use the Millard tape at the beginning of CD1 in order especially to include the famous exciting opening announcement of “The American Return of Led Zeppelin!”.)

“In the latter half of the show, the band in fact played very well, even better than on 12 March [click here] in some places. For instance, Dazed And Confused is spectacular from ‘75 standard and Stairway To Heaven is flawless and gutsy. Jimmy also played better in the funcky section in Whole Lotta Love than on the following day.”

We chose not to include the so-called ‘alternate edit’ of the 1964 Christmas message as it’s not really official. Bits were cut out of the take for use in the Abbey Road Video Show. They were reinserted in the wrong spot. Instead, we edited the take announcement, together with the slightly longer beginning and end on to the released version. We figure those who care enough to have the two different versions already have them.

OU Notes: The singer tosses beers out to a few lucky audience members early on. A few songs later, a drunk girl starts begging for the band to perform "Living On The Ceiling." The singer sidesteps her nicely.
Next, a Scottish guy starts asking the singer for different brands of Scottish ales. The singer tells him to go down the street to a store and get one for him while he's at it.
The bit about the band intros stemmed from a column in the LA Times Calendar section about a previous night's show where he only introduced the band by their first names. Apparently the writer gave him some abuse for it and this was his way of addressing that column.

Converted the godfather silverdiscs to flac through dBpowerAMP.
The final of three shows in Italy, was another great one Thursday, as Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band played four tour premieres at the Stadio Friuli in Udine.
How bout a show that begins with "Sherry Darling!" I haven't had a chance to check, but I think it's safe to say this is the first time Bruce has ever opened a show with this fun song.
Also played were the tour premieres of "Summertime Blues," "Be True," "Streets of Fire," and "Born in the U.S.A." (full band).
Springsteen has now played an incredible 136 different songs on this tour.

Setlist:

*Paul & Fred acoustic duo

OU: Another absolutely smoking show from one of the better runs in Feat history. The band seemed reenergized by the new tunes from the studio release Chinese Work Songs, represented here with Eula, Paul and Fred's Featerized take on William Faulkner's fallen southern belle, and the Payne/Murphy Just Another Sunday, with its Latin flavored extended percussion jam.
Little Feat was becoming more of a jam band than ever, thanks in part to Paul and Bill's brief 1999 tour with Phil Lesh. They were throwing in Grateful Dead teases like the short Not Fade Away that fits perfectly between That's Her She's Mine and Rocket. And the jams were stretching to new levels. The centerpiece of the show is the Dixie Chicken opus that starts off with a jazzy trumpet intro and accelerates through the solos into 1995's Big Bang Theory (what a great song!)... and then finds an even higher gear for Tripe Face. The whole thing clocks in at nearly 42 minutes of uninterrupted jazz improvisation, funky virtuosity, and blistering rock 'n roll. And to top it all off, they bring out featfriend Greg Koch for a three-guitar Texas Twister encore. This band can do anything, and on this night they did. Sound quality is a little brighter and punchier than some, one of the reasons why this is a personal favorite. If you've never tried post-Lowell George Feat, or have gone through life completely Featless, take the Rock & Roll Doctor's advice and download this show!

Randy's Notes: This is a copy of a disc a friend bought at the monthly swap meet. There is no cover art, but I did make a note that it was released on Turtle Records and the title is "Dim The Lights." I don't think it is a complete show because it fits on a 60 minute cassette, but it is most of it. I found the precise date and broadcast source online. The sound is fantastic.

Stryper: Soldiers and ATW Demos (Studio) FLAC

wall1_1600x1200
Demos 1984-1990
OU: Here is an amazing recording I obtained in a trade. I sat on it for a while before I decided I would share it here. I hope everybody else gets a kick out of it like I did! These are some of my most prized recordings from Stryper. So enjoy everybody!
Tracks 1 - 6 ("Soldiers Under Command" Live instrumental rehearsal)
These tracks sound like a live rehearsal without vocals. To me it sounds like a recorder was placed in the room while they performed the songs live. Occasionally you can hear some conversation after a song ends and even some cues to each other while performing. When I first heard these tracks I was speechless! I could not believe the treasure I had discovered! It's a little muddy but you can really get a sense of their amazing talent and the energy they put into their performances listening to the songs like this.
01 Reason For The Season
02 Soldiers Under Command
03 Reach Out
04 The Rock That Makes Me Roll
05 Winter Wonderland
06 Surrender

Tracks 7-12 ("Against The Law" WIP)
These sound more like professional studio recordings. At first these songs might sound exactly like the album release, but give them a close listen and you'll notice other differences. For instance, there are no backing vocals, you can hear them count before the songs start, and other small things are different than the album release.
07 Ordinary Man
08 Against The Law
09 Rock The People
10 Two Time Woman

Crashing Through The Sky
By 1984, IQ were regular fixtures at The Marquee. The prestigious club on London’s Wardour Street was without doubt the band’s home from home and they were always assured of a rapturous welcome there from their devoted and enthusiastic fans. On May 16th, the band played what was to have been their last British show for a while as their management company had lined up some American dates for them. In fact, these dates fell through and it would be another nine years before IQ finally set foot on American soil when they appeared at Progfest in Los Angeles in 1993, but essentially this performance at The Marquee was by way of saying a temporary farewell to their home audience.
Sensing the occasion, IQ turned in a powerful and determined performance, delving into their history to revive some seldom heard live tracks. Opening with an edited version of ‘Eloko Bella Neechi’, the band blasted through a thunderous version of ‘Awake And Nervous’ before revisiting their earliest group-written track, ‘Fascination’. The perennially popular ‘It All Stops Here’ (an Orford composition dating back to the band’s earlier incarnation as The Lens), together with ‘The Enemy Smacks’ and ‘The Last Human Gateway’, ensured that the crowd were treated to a non-stop barrage of classic material. Peter’s emotive ‘For The Taking’ set the scene for perhaps the most surprising addition to the set list: Martin’s pastoral piano solo ‘My Baby Treats Me Right ‘Cos I’m A Hard-Lovin’ Man All Night Long’. The inclusion of this rarely performed piece meant that the band’s debut album “Tales From The Lush Attic” was performed in its entirety that night, something that happened only once or twice after that. The band also layed ‘Widow’s Peak’, the first new number to be completed for their 1985 album, “The Wake”.
Being such regulars at The Marquee, IQ had developed a penchant for playing a different cover version as an encore each time in order to add some variety and an element of unpredictability to the set.  Tonight they turned their attention to Queen’s ‘Now I’m Here’, which they delivered with their usual fire and energy. A memorable evening was rounded off in manic style with the frenetic crowd- pleaser ‘Stomach Of Animal’.
The performance of these rare songs makes this such a fascinating document from a vital period in the band’s history. While the quality of this tape was far from perfect to begin with, we at PRRP have done our very best to turn this into a great listening experience. So travel back in time more than 20 years and relax in the company of Mike Holmes, Peter Nicholls, Paul Cook, Tim Esau and Martin Orford. Outside of the somewhat hastily released (much to the band’s dismay) “Living Proof” album in 1985, very few top quality recordings featuring this particular band line-up are actually circulating nowadays, which makes this one even more enjoyable.
Also included as a bonus track on disc two is a rare interview conducted with Martin Orford and Peter Nicholls later that month. Now you can find out why Martin was thwarted in his plans to become a classical pianist and why Peter wore all that greasepaint in those days.
And just what are the lyrics for ‘Awake And Nervous’ all about anyway ? PRRP Staff

Notes from the Re-Master
The biggest problem with this show was the hiss and other noises. Multiple techniques were needed to remove most of the offending sounds. Disc 2, by the way, needed a different noise reduction profile than disc 1 suggesting a different tape source? The audience was a bit noisy so crowd noise was reduced as well. Whistles, claps and general yelling were reduced where needed. Tonality was generally good but the treble was boosted a bit to increase detail.
There were a number of dropouts in the show, most of which were easily corrected. One occurred right in the middle of track 2, disc 1 but the patch makes this, now, undetectable. Dynamics were adjusted for optimum effect where needed. For the interview track, the Female interviewer voice and Martin’s voice needed a de-esser filter given their vocal characteristics. Clicks and pops were also removed both from the interview and the show.
Finally, the show was re-tracked and balanced. No speed correction was necessary after comparing the tracks with known commercial live references.

Journey: Houston 1980 (FM) FLAC

ws0071-front

Summit
Houston, TX April 12, 1980 (FM)
This is on of the best Journey shows available in trading circles. I did some research and as far as I can tell none of these tracks were used for official releases like 'Captured' or the 'Greatest Hits' DVD.
The bootleg is called 'Messin' with the Kid', and it has a great sound. IMO Journey never got any better than during this time... I don't have artwork, but perhaps you can find it and post links in the comments.
Enjoy the show!

“ It’s quite interesting bootleg featuring rare tracks and live recordings with Wilbury’s friends. The quality of live tracks is acceptable taking into consideration the date and venue. For true fans and collectors!
This was a Taj Mahal show in the Palomino Club on February 19, 1987. George, Bob Dylan and John Fogerty joined in for the gig. The result is a great show with a beautiful repertoire. Legend is that the show was filmed by the security cameras system. Sound quality is not perfect, but who cares?

OU: My name is Dee I was an avid Marilyn Manson collector way "back in my day". I spent countless hours researching, emailing and contacting various people down in fla tracking down all kinds of old shows. After some time (4 years) I actually bumped into Daisy (Scott Mitchell Putesky) and I told him what I was doing and he was MORE then willing to help me out. So after every now and then I'd shoot him an email with random dates I'd find or hear about and have him verify them the best he can remember. Finally I messaged him about this "acoustic show" that Marilyn Manson put on back in 94. Amazingly he offered me the actual show as a thank you for all my work. Soooo without further ado here it is and all its glory
Source: Sony Lav Mic On Mic Stand > Sony TCD-D6 > CD-R > WAV > FLAC
this is track for track exactly what I got from Scott I haven't modified, fixed, added nothing its the legit show. Sorry for the story book but this is truly an amazing show one of the few times you see manson "outside his comfort zone" per say.

Review from the site: The sound for 95% of the show is excellent. Everything comes through great with good highs and lows. It is a tremendous show for Geddy, probably the best his voice sounded during this tour. Overall a show I highly recommend.

OU: I remastered this show a while back and seeing as I've traded many copies of it, I feel it is only right to list it in the DRE. The original Syrinx production had a few glaring problems. It was not recording in DAO mode and therefore had those annoying 2 sec gaps between what few tracks were on the recording. Many of the songs were grouped together into one track, presumably to lessen the number of 2sec gaps. I then made each song its own separate track so that it is correctly indexed now. The really time consuming part was fixing all the digital noise in some of the songs. It took the better part of a week, I removed the digital noise (the same noise that a bad DAT tape will give you when you play it) by copying the unaffected channel over the effected channel. The overall effect is some short "mono" sections during this stereo recording. That is surely better than the digital noise piercing your ears! Lastly I removed numerous cuts in the audio during the drum solo and performed some sonic adjustments to improve the sound of the recording. Overall one of the best audience shows you will ever hear. I have no complaints against the original Syrinx release considering it was their first one and not everyone knew where to get DAO recording software back then. Luckily I had connections for that sort of thing. Since this is somebody else's source, I can only take credit/blame for the remastering of the original. As with all Digital Reproductions recordings, it's only available via free trade and never for sale. Just visit the trading links section to find people that will gladly trade this recording for free.

Eeklair notes: Short and sweet due to battery failure? That's what it sounds like. Ah, but I straightened out Xanadu on fade out, which suffered the old battery drain speedup. I also killed the bad azimuth right channel and made both channels from the good left-sided one. I then EQed it to be a bit more balanced... Then De-hissed a bit.. Then Stereo Reverb to widen the image. And thar she blows. I'm a sucker for a good Bytor. And this is an excellent one.
